TV Land hasn’t officially announced that Younger‘s upcoming seventh season will be its last, but the writing is on the wall — or, more accurately, on Instagram.

Debi Mazar, a regular cast member since Younger premiered in 2015, shared this touching tribute to costar Hilary Duff on Thursday: “Last night I filmed my final scene with [Duff] after 7 seasons on [Younger]. I adore this woman & I’m so proud of her. Not only is she a FIERCE broad, an amazing mother, but also a generous, seasoned actress with a wicked sense of humor. Hilary was brave enough to finish out this season in NYC (she’s a Los Angeles gal) during a pandemic, and VERY pregnant!!! Congratulations on your wrap!”

That scene was filmed on the same night that series star Sutton Foster, who plays Liza Miller, posted a simple message to her own Instagram story: “Oh Liza…I’m gonna miss u.”

TVLine has reached out to TV Land for comment.

But this is hardly the first evidence of Younger‘s impending conclusion. Tessa Albertson, who has recurred as Caitlin Miller since Season 1, posted an emotional farewell to her character on Instagram in January, calling it the “end of an era.” She also manifested another opportunity to work alongside her TV mom, writing, “Our paths will cross again. This is just the beginning.”

Duff was technically the first to let the news of Younger‘s final season slip during an interview with Australia’s The Morning Show in August 2020, casually referring to Season 7 as the last season. “It has been tough because I’m supposed to be in New York right now filming [the] last season, and we have been on hold for quite a few months,” she said at the time. “I think production is feeling confident that in the next month or two we can get back to our schedule and shoot our last season.”

TVLine then spoke with series creator Darren Star, who clarified that he was “unofficially planning [Season 7] as a final season.”

That said, we might not be done with the Younger-verse just yet. It was reported in May that ViacomCBS was working with Star on developing a spinoff about Duff’s character, Kelsey Peters. It’s unclear which network or streaming platform would house the Kelsey-centric series.

Younger stars Sutton Foster as Liza, a 40-something divorcée who poses as a millennial to land a job in the cutthroat industry of New York publishing. In addition to Duff and Mazar, the series also stars Miriam Shor, Nico Tortorella, Molly Bernard, Peter Hermann and Charles Michael Davis.

The show concluded its sixth season in 2019 with a series of game-changing developments — including a long-awaited proposal. What are your hopes for (what now appears to be) Younger‘s final season? Whatever’s on your mind, drop it in a comment below.

Emmerdale: Kim tells Mackenzie ‘cut Cain down to size’

The Christmas storylines were rather uneventful for Emmerdale this year, there were no attacks in the middle of the night, no cold bodies found in the middle of the village leading to a new whodunnit storyline, and no scandalous affairs. Instead, Paddy Kirk (played by Dominic Brunt) and Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) got married and Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb) returned and was identified as Al Chapman’s (Michael Wildman) mistress. But, the soap has a surprise for fans as the younger members of the cast are going to be at the heart of the drama this New Year.

ITV has announced jealousy, resentment, betrayal, dark secrets and compelling story twists are going to take centre stage from next week.

Consequently, some of Emmerdale’s youngest residents will find themselves at the centre of the drama.

Executive Producer Jane Hudson hints at what’s in store for the young actors who have established themselves as more than capable of leading storylines throughout the last 12 months.

She said: “We are so lucky to have such a talented group of young actors who can deliver some of our biggest storylines.

“It’s exciting to watch characters grow up and see how they develop and how their actions shape their futures.

“And there is plenty of action coming up which will take the young Emmerdale characters on journeys the audience won’t be expecting.”

Vinny Dingle, Mandy Dingle, Paul Ashdale

In upcoming weeks, Paul’s (Reece Dinsdale) aggressive behaviour towards Vinny (Bradley Johnson) will continue, but he will do anything to protect his mother from knowing the truth.

How long will it be before Mandy (Lisa Riley) sees Paul’s true colours?

Fans of Emmerdale will see Vinny struggle more and more, but Mandy knows nothing, instead she has marriage on her mind.

The actor who plays Vinny said: “Vinny’s path has been extremely troubling since his dad arrived in the village and he’s constantly being let down and betrayed.

“He clearly wants to believe his dad will change, but he will find himself on a long, dark and isolating journey.

“Getting to grips with the character and exploring the abuse Vinny suffers at the hands of his father has been a great learning experience and one I want to do justice,” Bradley added.

Liv Flaherty

During this week’s episodes, Liv (Isobel Steele) expressed concerns about her epilepsy result, wondering whether she can lead a fulfilling life.

It won’t be long before the worst is confirmed and she is forced to make changes to her day to day routine, all while trying to support Vinny.

But with Paul making his influence and presence felt, how much can Liv intervene?

Isobel who plays Liv said: “I’m really looking forward to seeing how Vinny and Liv’s relationship develops naturally and is put to the test.

“I’m also excited to see how Liv deals with her newly diagnosed epilepsy and how this affects her confidence as a young woman.“

Sarah Sugden and Debbie Dingle

Debbie returned last week and it won’t be long before she is trying to steer her wayward daughter.

Sarah (Katie Hill) is running wild as Danny returns and persuades her to get involved in his latest drugs deal.

But, those closest to Sarah won’t be the only once affected by her choices, as several village residents will be dragged down with her.

Can Debbie continue to support Sarah despite all of the lies and deceit?

The actress who plays Sarah explained: “The start of this year is going to be quite an eventful one for Sarah as a lot is going on that will affect her – and she’s left feeling lonely and unwanted.

“When Danny returns, she sees an opportunity to feel wanted and cared for by someone again. However, as we know, Danny has a dangerous past with drugs.

“Will Sarah get dragged down this path again?”  Katie asked.

Ethan

Ethan’s (Emile John) father, Charles (Kevin Mathurin) appeared last week when he conducted Chas and Paddy’s wedding at the last minute when Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) pulled out.

While his father is a man of God, Ethan is a man of the law but his world is turned upside down when he comes into contact with Sarah.

Previous spoilers have already revealed how Sarah plants drugs on Ethan when in the Woolpack, and he has some explaining to do to both the police and his father.

Emile explained: “Ethan’s arrival is far from quiet and he soon finds himself at the mercy of the Dingles. But that’s not all.

“We’ll soon find out more about Ethan and his past which could have huge consequences for others.

“I’ve loved playing Ethan so far and I can’t wait to see where the character is heading,” the actor said.

Emmerdale spoilers: The characters involved (Image: ITV)

Leanna Cavanagh

The teenager has always been on the sidelines of Emmerdale’s biggest storylines, but this year, she will take centre stage.

Leanna (Mimi Slinger) is missing Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) who has been staying in Portugal.

Meanwhile, her friendship with Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) is strained after everything that went on with her father, Dr Liam Cavanagh (Johnny McPherson) and Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi).

But can Leanna put what happened behind her and repair her broken friendship with Gabby?

As for her romance, will it withstand the distance of being parted from Jacob?

Mimi said: “Leanna has found herself quite isolated with Jacob’s absence and she’ll be sure to question whether their relationship is strong enough to last the distance.

“I love playing Leanna, she has so many layers to her and I’m looking forward to exploring her story further.”

Amelia Spencer

2020 has been tough for Amelia (Daisy Campbell), and she found herself stepping up to the plate as a full time carer for her injured, destitute dad Dan Spencer (Liam Fox).

With money so tight, Emmerdale viewers saw Amelia resorted to crime.

Can she be free from the woes of their financial problems and worries about her father’s health?

Daisy revealed: “I’m looking forward to seeing Amelia grow up and mature over 2021.

“It would be nice to see her have some happiness this year and for it not be quite as tough going for her.

“But I love working with my second dad and seeing how Amelia responds to the responsibilities put on her by her dad’s ongoing situation,” the actress said.

Samson Dingle

Samson (Sam Hall) hasn’t been seen very much in Emmerdale this year after he spent much of it in France following a school trip.

While he was stuck across the borders, he found romance, but he will have to leave her behind in order to settle back home.

In the coming weeks Samson will be influenced by Noah, but could there be serious repercussions for this impressionable teen.

“It’s great being Samson and part of the Dingles,” actor Sam said.

“Sam will take a big risk this coming year by helping his cousin Noah. He might be bringing himself a lot of trouble, only time will tell!”

Gabby Thomas

Gabby has struggled to find her place over the last few months.

Fans will remember how she almost lost Dr Liam his career, messed up things with Leyla and found herself alone and out in the cold. With Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) and Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) still coming to terms with their recently sad decision to terminate their pregnancy, could Gabby set her sights towards Home Farm and handsome Jamie Tate (Alexander Lincoln)?

And could Kim Tate (Claire King) recognise something of herself in this cunning and clever girl?

Rosie explained: “Gabby has had her fair share of trouble over the past year, but if she’s hoping 2021 is going to be a more settled year, she can think again.

“I’m excited that Gabby is at the heart of the village as she sets her sights on Home Farm and I can tell you this year is going to hold even more drama for Gabby than ever,” the actress added.

Emmerdale airs tonight at 7pm on ITV.

Pretty Little Liars’ Keegan Allen Joins The CW’s Walker as the Texas Ranger’s Gay, Conservative Younger Brother https://briefnews.eu/pretty-little-liars-keegan-allen-joins-the-cws-walker-as-the-texas-rangers-gay-conservative-younger-brother/ https://briefnews.eu/pretty-little-liars-keegan-allen-joins-the-cws-walker-as-the-texas-rangers-gay-conservative-younger-brother/#respond Wed, 19 Feb 2020 23:30:06 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/pretty-little-liars-keegan-allen-joins-the-cws-walker-as-the-texas-rangers-gay-conservative-younger-brother/

The CW’s Walker, Texas Ranger reboot just got a little prettier. Keegan Allen, best known for playing Toby Cavanaugh on Pretty Little Liars, has boarded the new series — simply titled Walker — as the younger brother of Jared Padalecki’s character, Variety reports.

Padalecki stars as Cordell Walker, “a widower and father of two with his own moral code who returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years, only to discover there’s harder work to be done at home.”

Allen’s character, Liam Walker, is a gay conservative who was just promoted to assistant district attorney. Per his official description, “Liam has always stayed close to home, often sacrificing his personal life in favor of his family duties. In Walker’s absence, he stepped up to take Walker’s kids under his wing. Liam’s close relationship with Walker’s son and daughter makes Walker slightly jealous.”

As previously reported, Padalecki and Allen will be joined by Lindsey Morgan (The 100) as Micki, Walker’s new partner.

Walker was one of several pilots recently ordered to series for The CW’s 2020–2021 season. The other was Superman & Lois, starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch in the title roles.

Younger Writer Breaks Down Liza’s ‘Massive’ Season Finale Surprise https://briefnews.eu/younger-writer-breaks-down-lizas-massive-season-finale-surprise/ https://briefnews.eu/younger-writer-breaks-down-lizas-massive-season-finale-surprise/#respond Thu, 05 Sep 2019 10:08:13 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/younger-writer-breaks-down-lizas-massive-season-finale-surprise/

Wednesday’s season finale of Younger gave fans a moment they’ve been waiting for — or dreading, depending on their team of choice — for years.

Let’s get right to it: Inspired by the romantic vibes of Diana and Enzo’s wedding, Charles asked Liza to marry him, a question she didn’t exactly have time to answer before being (mercifully!) interrupted by a swarm of dancers. Perhaps she was still flustered from her previous conversation with Josh, during which she forbade him from mass-producing the hourglass tattoo he designed for her.

Elsewhere in the episode, Lauren’s lady parts had a nasty run-in with a questionable ice sculpture, and Kelsey agreed to return to Millennial after very briefly joining forces with Quinn. She even let herself feel something for Zane, which is a pretty major step up.

Below, writer Don Roos answers some of our burning questions about the finale, including how Liza manages to keep getting away with all this emotional manipulation:

TVLINE | Let’s start with the most important thing: Who came up with the idea for that ice sculpture?
I don’t remember who decided it would be an ice sculpture, but Joe Murphy definitely thought it should be a fish coming out of a toilet to capture both halves of the marriage. I have to give him crazy credit for that. Joe’s also the writer who decided to have Debi Mazar actually sink into a peat bog when they all went to Ireland.

TVLINE | I mean, I’ve seen A Christmas Story, so I knew things weren’t going to end well for Lauren.
We needed that comedy story in Episode 12. When you get to the end of a Younger season, there are a lot of dramatic stories to wrap up, so we always find that we need something to balance out the emotion of everything going on. The finales are usually relationship-heavy, so you need a palate cleanser.

TVLINE | And who better to cleanse our palate than Lauren?
She’s so great, and she can say anything. That character can say the most outrageous things and you forgive her, because she exists in an alternate reality. She reminds me of Phoebe on Friends; she’s not inhabiting the same world as everybody else.

TVLINE | OK, onto the proposal. This is a huge moment for the show. Were you feeling the pressure as you wrote the episode?
I was feeling the pressure. I forget what the original version of the story was, but [creator Darren Star] came to me when we were shooting Episode 8 and said, “I have a new idea for the ending. Here’s what it is.” And he told me how it would be, almost line for line. It just came out of him. So I went home and wrote it down, and that’s exactly what we filmed. So I can’t take credit for the big moment — I was just trying to live up to what Darren had envisioned.

TVLINE | It certainly felt like a massive undertaking.
We had a lot of fun that day. It was hot, and we were at some huge mansion about 30 miles out of Manhattan. There was so much to get done that day: There was the scene between Josh and Liza in the bar, we had to make sure Diana and Enzo were serviced correctly, we had to do the payoff with the ice sculpture, and we had to hint that Maggie and Lauren’s relationship may be starting up again. And after all that, while we’re on the dance floor with all of these extras and playback and a band, we had to get this proposal just right. It was a massive, massive day. I think we shot until 2 am that day.

TVLINE | Is it bad that I’m starting to get really frustrated with Liza’s indecisiveness?
We say that in the writers’ room all the time. Like, how are we getting away with this? And the answer is always: Sutton Foster. Liza is the most infuriating woman, and she could be [less endearing] in the hands of somebody else. But there’s such a good naturedness about Sutton as a person, and it comes through in her character — even when Liza is torturing someone unnecessarily. She doesn’t mean to.

TVLINE | The scene at the bar between Josh and Liza was so painful to watch. Was any of it hard to write?
She’s just so divided, equally, between Josh and Charles. She cannot let go of Josh. She’s just a human being who had something very special with Josh. She met him in the first episode, it was the first person she met as her new self, and it was kind of like imprinting — like when a baby duckling looks up at its mother. They bonded, and she can’t let it go. There was something about that tattoo that she didn’t want to be public property. It doesn’t mean she doesn’t love Charles; she just doesn’t want that memento from her relationship with Josh to be spread all over town. I actually found it easy to write this scene because I understood where she was coming from.

TVLINE | I don’t know, I still feel like she’s preventing him from pursuing a good opportunity.
My feeling is, “Go dream up another tattoo, Josh.” I’m on her side. Do a little turtle, do a heart with wings, do a skull — do whatever you want. But not that one. And she isn’t just keeping him from a professional opportunity. By saying all of this, she’s also keeping him from moving on and finding somebody else. But like I said, there is nobody like Liza.

TVLINE | Lastly, Kelsey and Zane’s relationship is hard to nail down. How would you say they are after this finale?
We always thought of this as Kelsey finally softening and letting herself be vulnerable with Zane. We’ve always felt that Zane loves her. They’re so well-matched; they’re both very driven and competitive. Neither wants to be bested by the other. But I think Kelsey is finally letting him in. She’s had to rely on herself all her life, so she’s not used to letting her guard down. What will happen next season between them? I don’t know. But he certainly declared his feelings for her, then let her make the next move — and she made it.

Labor Day Weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, and all is (mostly) quiet in the lead up to the fall TV season.

But this week’s small-screen fare still delivered plenty of bon mots and one-liners, which we’ve compiled in our latest Quotes of the Week gallery.

This time around, we’ve got an awkward introduction from The Affair‘s Season 5 premiere, a dying wish from Yellowstone‘s Season 2 finale, and the understatement of the year courtesy of Power‘s final season opener.

Also featured in this week’s roundup: double doses of BH90210 and Succession, as well as soundbites from 13 Reasons Why, Carnival Row, Why Women Kill and Younger.

Younger Recap: ‘Dear Josh…’ https://briefnews.eu/younger-recap-dear-josh/ https://briefnews.eu/younger-recap-dear-josh/#respond Thu, 29 Aug 2019 12:42:03 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/younger-recap-dear-josh/

One week after Kelsey’s career-ruining social media snafu, Wednesday’s Younger reminded us that classic pen-and-paper snail mail can be just as damaging. Take, for example, the goodbye letter Liza wrote to Josh this week.

In case you didn’t fully absorb it during the episode, let’s give it another read: “Dear Josh… I can’t begin to thank you for how you’ve changed my life, and picturing you not in it breaks my heart, but I need to let you go. From the first time we met, you saw me in a way no one had in a long time. Not even myself. Since then, we’ve made so many memories — some that still make laugh, some I’ll never forget, and some I wish I could. And now I’ve left my lie behind, and you’re a dad. Look at us, all grown up. The problem with memories is that they lock us in the past, and we both need to move forward. As much as I want you in my life, I can’t right now, and I hope you understand why.”

Younger‘s never been afraid to tug at the heart strings, but I can’t recall this show delivering a more emotional gut punch. (That face!) Unfortunately, Liza’s plan to straight-up ghost Josh hit a slight snag when Diana’s bachelorette party took a detour to Inkburg — and Josh wasn’t about to let Liza walk away without an explanation. In fact, let’s also relive that painful conversation, shall we?

Josh: You’re just going to write me a letter, then never talk to me again? That’s the plan here?
Liza: Yes, because I care about you. That’s the problem.
Josh: I’m calling bulls–t. You convinced me to sign this lease. You told me you’d always be here for me, that you were going to be Gemma’s Aunt Liza, right? Now, what, you’re just abandoning me?
Liza: I want to give things with Charles a shot. I can’t go around riding on motorcycles with you and having late-night calls. You know this is going to hurt me, too. It’s going to kill me not to see Gemma.
Josh: Then why are you doing it? Is Charles that much more important to you? Are your feelings for him stronger than your feelings for me? Look, I get it. I do. You’re scared of us. Scared of what we were, and what we still are. So now you’re making the safe choice.
Liza: You don’t know anything about Charles. And don’t tell me how I feel. I know that this is hard to accept, Josh, but we were a moment in time. It was amazing, and I will cherish it, but the time has passed.
Josh: So just say it. Just say it. Say you love him more than you love me.
Liza: Is that what you need to hear?
Josh: Yes.
Liza: Fine, then I love him more.
Josh: You forget, Liza. I know you. I know when you’re lying, especially to yourself. You wrote a letter to the wrong guy.

Then Younger gave us the ol’ bait-and-switch, tricking us into thinking that Liza was taking Josh’s advice and writing a letter to Charles… only it was Kelsey writing to Charles… to resign from her new (old) position at Millennial!

You know, I’m actually glad that Diana decided not to get a tattoo. This isn’t a night any of us will want to remember.

What are your thoughts on this week’s Younger? Do you agree that Liza wrote a letter to the wrong guy? And what are your hopes for next week’s (gulp) season finale? Drop ’em all in a comment below.

Younger Recap: Charles in Charge https://briefnews.eu/younger-recap-charles-in-charge/ https://briefnews.eu/younger-recap-charles-in-charge/#respond Thu, 22 Aug 2019 11:01:31 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/younger-recap-charles-in-charge/

Social media proved itself to be a double-edged sword on Wednesday’s Younger. But is it sharp enough to kill Kelsey’s entire career with a single swing?

Let’s dive in: During a work trip to Chicago, Kelsey impressed Millennial’s potential new investors with her grasp of social, especially how she’s using it to expand the business and improve customer loyalty. They were less impressed, however, by the sexy DM she filmed for Zane (“Guess who got the money, honey!”) and accidentally posted to her Instagram story. The “uncomfortable” investors explained that they’re still interested in Millennial, but only if Charles returns to the role of publisher. And since this was the company’s last resort, Kelsey recognized that she had no choice but to step down. (Well, she technically took the escalator down — but you get it.)

Speaking of difficult decisions, Liza agreed not to see Josh anymore after promising Charles that their perceived chemistry in the Infinitely 21 ad meant nothing. To be fair, though, Liza kind of brought this on herself by traveling to Chicago and confronting Charles face to face. In her attempt to spare his feelings, she actually made him more insecure about her lingering attraction to Josh. Had she simply explained the situation in a phone call or a text message — or a sexy DM, a la Kelsey — he likely would have dismissed it. But hopping on an expensive last-minute flight made it seem like Liza had something to hide.

And while we’re discussing that Infinitely 21 ad, allow us to float a few questions to the group: How did Josh and Liza, the stars of the campaign, not see the final image before it was released? At the very least, shouldn’t Lauren — you know, the publicist — have seen it and warned her? Also, wasn’t that campaign only out for, like, a day before the company decided to immediately make it national? By what metrics could Infinitely 21 have possibly measured the ad’s success so quickly? OK, rant over.

Also worth discussing…

* Claire informed Josh that she’s been offered a great position with Google… in Los Angeles. Maggie suggested that he wage a custody battle to keep Gemma in his life, but he decided to go in a slightly different direction. He pitched a partnership between Inkburg and Infinitely 21 (naturally), where he would apply exclusive tattoos in-store to drum up publicity. Shelly was crazy about the idea… almost as crazy as she is about Josh.

* Despite a not-so-subtle dig at Liza (“When I was in my twenties…” / “Oh, you mean last week?”), Diana was cool as a cucumber whilst her wedding preparations got underway. Then again, this was just about the dress — we should really wait until the discussion of jewelry begins.

Younger Star Reacts to That Romantic Surprise: ‘It’s Pretty Fantastic’ https://briefnews.eu/younger-star-reacts-to-that-romantic-surprise-its-pretty-fantastic/ https://briefnews.eu/younger-star-reacts-to-that-romantic-surprise-its-pretty-fantastic/#respond Thu, 01 Aug 2019 10:14:00 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/younger-star-reacts-to-that-romantic-surprise-its-pretty-fantastic/

Warning: This article spoils a major event from Wednesday’s Younger. Proceed at your own risk…

It was the moment every Younger fan has waited for since Diana threw her old wedding dress out the window back in Season 3 — Wednesday’s episode ended with Enzo getting down on one knee and asking Diana to marry him. Tears were shed, kisses were exchanged, and a ring was… eh, we’ll get to that part later.

“You might expect Diana to be like, ‘Give me the ring that I want!’ but when she asks about the ring, I think she’s really just stalling because she doesn’t know what to do with the emotions she’s feeling,” Miriam Shor tells TVLine of the long-awaited moment. “It’s funny, I don’t actually wear a wedding ring in real life, and I’m married. I’m just like, ‘I don’t need a ring. I’ve got an indelible love affair that’ll last me the rest of my life. What do I need with jewelry?’”

As for whether Diana will become a full-on bridezilla — as viewers likely expect, and perhaps even hope — Shor reminds us that her character is always full of surprises: “She wants the things she wants, and she’s very specific about what she wants. But what’s fascinating about her is that in the ways that you might expect her to be a complete nightmare, she often just surprises you. And she can roll with things. She’s very surprising in that way.”

Even after six seasons, Shor still can’t believe how much the show’s fans root for her character, especially after her rocky introduction in Younger‘s early days.

“What I love to hear from people about Diana is how much they want her to be happy. That they care at all about this woman who can be very difficult in so many ways is just so delightful. The character of Enzo is such a wonderful foil for her. You really sense that he actually understands her. He’s on her level, and he never asks her not to be herself. In that way, it’s pretty fantastic that they ended up together.”

Elsewhere this week…

* With Charles back in the office, Kelsey struggled to assert her authority over her former boss — not to mention Zane, who’s proving far less amenable to his new publisher’s ideas.

* Liza discovered an unfinished manuscript, which she described as feeling like a “more sophisticated Nicholas Sparks,” about a young man who has an affair with an older woman in the Hamptons. Unfortunately, the author (Charles!) has no interest in finishing what he started.

* Speaking of Liza and Charles, the two decided to become more spontaneous in an effort to stave off the same boredom and unhappiness felt by the woman Charles slept with all those years ago. (And if Liza’s flirty “how does the story end?” conversation with Josh is any indication, Charles has his work cut out for him.)

Younger Recap: What Did Liza’s Latest Trip Reveal About Her True Feelings? https://briefnews.eu/younger-recap-what-did-lizas-latest-trip-reveal-about-her-true-feelings/ https://briefnews.eu/younger-recap-what-did-lizas-latest-trip-reveal-about-her-true-feelings/#respond Thu, 25 Jul 2019 04:18:42 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/younger-recap-what-did-lizas-latest-trip-reveal-about-her-true-feelings/

Having already proven herself equipped to handle Molly and lolli-pots, Liza kicked things up a notch on Wednesday’s Younger by ingesting “not LSD” at a microdosing retreat. You know, for work.

So, what did we learn from Liza’s latest trip? For starters — as if there was any doubt — she’s not even remotely over Josh. Not only did she imagine hooking up with him on their first night at the retreat, but she also told this to one of the friendly nurses: “Josh is so beautiful! Every time I look at him, I have flashes of our sex. Oh, Maureen, our sex!” Liza clarified that sex is also “really hot with Charles,” though not with the same enthusiasm.

Naturally, Liza’s indecision — coupled with that sweet, sweet “not LSD” coursing through her system — resulted in a trippy little tango, with both suitors joining her on the dance floor. As a forever-recovering Bunheads fan, I’m always down to watch Sutton Foster doing what she does best, and as a thriving Younger fan, I’m always down to watch her roll around on the floor and take selfies with a houseplant. So this was a win-win for me.

The retreat also turned out to be a win for Charles, who realized that the competition between Millennial and Mercury was hurting his “family” (aka his former co-workers). By selling Mercury to Millennial for $ 1 and agreeing to work under Kelsey as an editor, Charles nobly put an end to the Great Publishing Wars of 2019. (In other news, has anyone seen Quinn lately?)

Elsewhere this week…

* By simply reciting a passage from the book aloud in her iconic smoky tone, Diana accidentally auditioned to read the audiobook for The Seasoned Slut. And while she wasn’t initially crazy about the idea, Diana eventually grew to care for her new position. (“I thought maybe I could hit ‘nipple’ a little harder.”)

* Speaking of audiobooks, Audrey Colbert made an unsettling return this week to record her own memoir. After seeing firsthand how easily she feigned emotion in the studio, Zane conceded that she’s “hot but scary,” while Kelsey straight-up admitted that she thinks Audrey is guilty. Unfortunately, they forgot to take their hand off the speaker button, so she heard everything they said. (Kelsey and Zane may not be sleeping together at the moment, but I sure hope they’re both sleeping with one eye open.)

* After being overlooked at her favorite bar, Maggie feared she’d lost her mojo. But when a ceiling painting accident left her suspended upside down, attracting the attention of a peeping perv across the street, she realized she’s still got it going on. For something so brief, this subplot was… a lot.

RELATED STORIES

Based solely on Wednesday’s premiere, the sixth season of Younger is shaping up like the second act of Into the Woods. Everyone is finally getting what they’ve always wanted — so why doesn’t anyone seem particularly happy?

Let’s start with Liza, who’s finally free to take her relationship with Charles public — something she probably should have divulged to Diana privately before announcing their affair to the entire office.

“That hurt Diana on so many levels,” Miriam Shor tells TVLine. “Charles was the one that no one was ever really going to get, so it was fine. But then Liza got him, so it does feel like a betrayal. Liza didn’t tell her about it, and neither did Charles. We’re all supposed to be friends, but it was hidden from her. Let’s just say that Diana doesn’t like to be kept in the dark… about anything.”

Fortunately, Liza and Kelsey — who’s finding that the view from the top isn’t quite what she expected — were able to win Diana back with an impromptu karaoke performance of Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5.” (Click here for that full story.)

And while Charles seems to be enjoying his newfound freedom (he and Liza finally swapped the L-word!), there’s something awfully suspicious about him having private meetings with Zane.

“Charles gave up a significant piece of his identity when he left the company,” Peter Hermann reminds us. “You’ll find out how willing or unwilling he is to let that piece of his identity go. Human beings and relationships are complicated. … What he ends up pursuing and who he ends up pursuing it with will play out over the season.”

Younger Season 6In fact, the only character who seems genuinely excited about their lot in life is Josh, whom the premiere confirmed to be the father of Claire’s unborn child — though that delight might just be Nico Tortorella’s own baby fever coming through.

“I’ve been wanting babies for a little bit in my own life,” Tortorella says. “The second we read the last scene from the end of Season 5, I was like, ‘I get to go to work and hold a baby all day everyday?’ It’s a dream come true! And I’m really good with the babies. Just putting that out there. We have, like, eight or 10 different babies, and I have a special relationship with each one of them. It’s the one time where gender really doesn’t matter. We have boy babies and girl babies playing the same role.”
