“Stood up? They asked for the flag of the country that educates them to be removed. That’s not standing up,” one fan blasted at Carina’s praise for the younger generation.

A second said on Twitter: “Bring your own children up how you like. However, don’t then moan when they act or conduct themselves in ways you don’t agree with when they are older because that was ultimately the way you taught them.”

While a third pointed out: “Both have good points. Think about what adult you want to create then work towards that.

“Don’t complain they don’t have value for money or can’t save when you gave them everything they wanted when they were kids! Don’t try and be their best friend, be their parents!”

Mike Richards Set to Wrap Up Jeopardy! Guest Hosting Stint — How Does He Stack Up Against Ken Jennings? (Poll) https://briefnews.eu/mike-richards-set-to-wrap-up-jeopardy-guest-hosting-stint-how-does-he-stack-up-against-ken-jennings-poll/ https://briefnews.eu/mike-richards-set-to-wrap-up-jeopardy-guest-hosting-stint-how-does-he-stack-up-against-ken-jennings-poll/#respond Fri, 05 Mar 2021 02:28:38 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/mike-richards-set-to-wrap-up-jeopardy-guest-hosting-stint-how-does-he-stack-up-against-ken-jennings-poll/

With Mike Richards‘ two-week stint as Jeopardy! guest host concluding on Friday, we’re offering up fans of the iconic game show something of a Sophie’s Choice:  Who would you rather see behind the lectern full-time, Richards or inaugural interim emcee Ken Jennings?

Since his run began on Feb. 22, Richards — who doubles as Jeopardy!‘s exec producer — won over social media with his movie-star looks, warm demeanor and magnetic charm. The positive reviews are all the more impressive when you consider that the onetime Pyramid host was an 11th hour pick.

“I didn’t know I was going to be doing it until three days before, and so I had not prepared myself to host in the way that I know other guest hosts are,” Richards recently told USA Today. “So there was just a lot to unpack.

“Plus, I also only owned one suit, so there was a little bit of scrambling there,” he added. “It was very fun; humbling doesn’t begin to describe the feeling. It hit me like a ton of bricks when Johnny Gilbert announced my name. That’s of course the last thing you hear when you start to walk out. … and it was overwhelming in the moment.”

Richards picked up the guest-hosting baton from GOAT contestant Jennings, whose similarly well-received six-week tenure ended in mid-February. Jennings, in turn, on Monday will hand the gig off to Katie Couric. The former Today co-host will then be followed by NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers, 60 Minutes‘ Bill Whitaker and Big Bang Theory vet Mayim Bialik. Additional guest hosts will include CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Dr. Sanjay Gupta., as well as Dr. Mehmet Oz and Today‘s Savannah Guthrie.

Meanwhile, a decision on who will succeed the late Alex Trebek permanently may not be made until the launch of Season 38 next September. As Richards told USA Today, “Let’s make sure we get someone we are going to feel even better about in a decade than we do this year.”

Did Richards prove himself worthy of the full-time job? Or more pointedly, if it comes down to Richards vs. Jennings, who would you choose? Vote below!

Star to Wrap Up With ‘Movie of the Week,’ Creator Lee Daniels Says https://briefnews.eu/star-to-wrap-up-with-movie-of-the-week-creator-lee-daniels-says/ https://briefnews.eu/star-to-wrap-up-with-movie-of-the-week-creator-lee-daniels-says/#respond Sat, 06 Jul 2019 10:39:54 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/star-to-wrap-up-with-movie-of-the-week-creator-lee-daniels-says/

Star co-creator Lee Daniels is making good on his promise to bring closure to the late Fox music drama.

The series, which was cancelled in May after three seasons, will get “a movie of the week to wrap things up for you all,” Daniels said in a Instagram video on Friday. “We’re gonna make something real special for you to scream about, with all of our cast members — even the dead ones.”

Daniels did not share any other details such as when the movie would air or what the storyline would involve (that would allow for dead characters to return!).

Of the 25 series cancelled in May, TVLine readers voted Star and ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier as the shows they most wanted to see un-cancelled. After Daniels’ attempts to resurrect the Fox drama were unsuccessful, he took to Instagram to declare, “We will have something with some closure. You ain’t seen the last of Star, I promise. We will have something that will make you happy.”

A spokesperson for 20th Century Fox Television had no comment on Daniels’ video.

Watch Daniels’ latest announcement below, then hit the comments with your hopes for the Star movie.

Premier League wrap: Spurs star in the record books, Gunners on fire https://briefnews.eu/premier-league-wrap-spurs-star-in-the-record-books-gunners-on-fire/ https://briefnews.eu/premier-league-wrap-spurs-star-in-the-record-books-gunners-on-fire/#respond Tue, 01 Jan 2019 20:34:45 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/premier-league-wrap-spurs-star-in-the-record-books-gunners-on-fire/ The Gunners were back to their very best as they thrashed fellow Londoners Fulham. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s real rivals Tottenham were equally as impressive as they outclassed Cradiff, with their talismanic skipper writing his name into the history books.

Here’s a wrap of all the Premier League action!

ARSENAL 4-1 FULHAM

The Gunners responded to their thrashing by Liverpool in the best possible manner reeling off a routine 4-1 humbling of struggling Fulham in their Premier League clash on Tuesday.

Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka had set Arsenal on their way with his fourth goal of the season. Alexandre Lacazette added the second after 55 minutes with their momentum temporarily halted as Aboubakar Kamara pulled one back after 69 minutes.

However, Welshman Aaron Ramsey came off the bench to make it 3-1 eleven minutes from time and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang added a fourth.

CARDIFF 0-3 TOTTENHAM

Harry Kane got himself into the record books again as Tottenham Hotspur started 2019 in style outclassing Cardiff City to prevail 3-0 on Tuesday.

Kane’s third-minute opening goal is the fifth successive New Year’s Day he has scored in the Premier League, equalling a record held by Andy Cole and Steven Gerrard.

Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-Min added further goals as Spurs had the win wrapped up before halftime and reclaimed second place, a point above Manchester City, and six behind leaders Liverpool.

EVERTON 0-1 LEICESTER

Jamie Vardy’s 58th-minute strike gave Leicester City a 1-0 win at Everton and condemned Marco Silva’s side to their fourth defeat in five English Premier League games.

After a poor first half, the decisive goal came when Everton defender Michael Keane mis-controlled the ball to Ricardo Pereira, who sent Vardy through. The striker made no mistake with a low drive past Jordan Pickford before celebrating with a cartwheel in front of the travelling Foxes fans.

NFL wrap: ‘Comeback of season’ wins the West https://briefnews.eu/nfl-wrap-comeback-of-season-wins-the-west/ https://briefnews.eu/nfl-wrap-comeback-of-season-wins-the-west/#respond Fri, 14 Dec 2018 07:10:45 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/nfl-wrap-comeback-of-season-wins-the-west/ The West looked won on Friday afternoon (AEST). Until it wasn’t. Los Angeles Chargers took an incredible gamble against Kansas City and claimed a massive prize. Here’s what we learned from the game:

1. The West looked won on Thursday night. Until it wasn’t. Down two touchdowns midway through the fourth quarter and without their leading rusher and receiver, Philip Rivers and the Chargers scored twice in the final four minutes against the conference-leading Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium to pull even atop the division. After forcing Kansas City’s fourth punt of the game with a quick three-and-out with 2:37 left, Rivers connected deep with Travis Benjamin (2 receptions, 57 yards) twice for key conversions to march L.A. down into the red zone. With eight seconds left, the Chargers earned a first down from the 1-yard line following an iffy pass interference call on Chiefs cornerback Kendall Fuller covering Mike Williams, one of many suspect whistles blown on both teams.

Rivers went back to Williams on the next play for the touchdown. Instead of kicking the extra point and settling for overtime, Coach of the Year front-runner Anthony Lynn called for a two-point conversion. Rivers went right back to the well with Williams, who capped a career night (eight touches, 95 yards, three TDs) with a wide-open reception in the right corner of the end zone.

Following the win and the on-field celebration that followed, Lynn defended the decision to go for two, not that he had to. “We didn’t come here for a tie. We came here for the win,” Lynn told reporters. “So, for me, it was a no-brainer.”

2. The improbable victory against the AFC’s hottest offence is Los Angeles’ second second-half comeback on the road against an AFC playoff contender in three weeks. The Bolts pulled off a similar feat against Pittsburgh in Week 13. The Chargers clinched an AFC playoff berth with the win and are back in the postseason for the first time since 2013. More importantly, L.A. tied the Chiefs at 11-3 atop the AFC West. Though Kansas City still controls its destiny and will secure a division title and home-field advantage if it wins out in Seattle and against Oakland, the Chargers are now nipping at K.C.’s heels. Los Angeles finishes at home versus the Ravens and at the Broncos.

3. Eric Berry’s return to the Chiefs secondary after nearly 16 months on the shelf couldn’t salvage the chronically dismal unit. The safety was all over the field in the first half, finding himself in coverage and blitz packages during his 27 snaps. But Berry didn’t see the field once in the final two quarters when L.A. made its comeback. It was expected that Berry would be on a pitch count coming off his heel injury and Chiefs coach Andy Reid confirmed as much after the loss, telling reporters the team “kind of backed off” Berry’s reps in the second half.

The Berry-less secondary was picked apart by an incisive Rivers in the fourth quarter and was especially victimised in the red zone where at the end of the game the Chiefs followed up a killer penalty to facilitate a TD with a blown coverage to allow the game-winning two-pointer.

“We shot ourselves in the foot here with the penalties. You can’t do that in a game like this,” Reid said. “We were in great position to get off the field, we didn’t. A lot of those extended drives were because of penalties … No excuses, we got to get it done.” The Chiefs committed 10 penalties on the evening.

4. The Chargers entered Thursday night short their top two rushers and within 30 minutes of kick-off found themselves without their leading receiver. Keenan Allen suffered a hip injury that kept him out of the second half, roaming the sidelines alongside fellow injured skill players Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler. And yet the Bolts had little trouble moving the ball on their three second-half touchdown drives thanks to clutch play from farther down the depth chart.

“They’re used to when Keenan’s out there,” Rivers said of his secondary players. “Keenan gets a lot of the attention and he was getting it early. And then all the sudden Keenan was out and they have to shift gears.”

Shift, they did. Williams was a dual-threat revelation, earning in one night the seventh overall pick L.A. spent on him in 2017. Impending free agent Tyrell Williams was targeted 12 times and reeled in six catches of his own. Even ol’ man Antonio Gates got in on the action, juking Chiefs defensive backs out of their cleats in the open field to extend drives. Lynn’s decision to keep Gordon (MCL sprain) under wraps for another week paid off, as Justin Jackson and Detrez Newsome filled in nicely, combining for 92 yards on 22 attempts. Los Angeles has one of, if not the deepest rosters in football, a roster constructed for nights like this and January nights to come.

5. Kansas City wasn’t quite shut down by Los Angeles’ defence — the Chiefs after all did score four touchdowns — but Patrick Mahomes and Co. were held in check on half of their drives. The Chiefs punted as many times as they scored, and none of their drives ending in a punt lasted longer than four plays. Kansas City was held to a season-low 294 total yards by Gus Bradley’s defence, which eliminated for the most part the big-play threat posed by Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. Kelvin Benjamin (11 snaps, one catch) was a negligible presence.

Without the injured Spencer Ware and the released Kareem Hunt, Mahomes instead ran most of his offence through the backs Williams, Damien and Darrel (unrelated). K.C. relied on an effective screen game with Damien Williams, who led the team in rushing (49 yards) and receiving (74) and scored twice on the goal line in the second half. The MVP contender Mahomes still displayed flashes of brilliance, his first-quarter TD toss to Demarcus Robinson chief among them, but the fourth-quarter magic he mustered just five days ago against Baltimore wasn’t there on Thursday.

6. Kansas City’s front seven can’t win games all by itself but it sure as hell can try. Led by the unstoppable Chris Jones, the Chiefs took down Rivers four times in the first half and five times in the game. The third-year defensive lineman had 2.5 sacks, all in the first half, and eight (!) QB hits on Rivers. Jones has 14 sacks on the season, second behind Aaron Donald’s 16.5, and tied an NFL record by recording a sack in 10 consecutive games. He’s due some money. It takes a special pass rusher to relegate Dee Ford and Justin Houston (2.5 sacks combined) to the bottom of the paragraph.

PL wrap: 96th min drama stuns Utd as Reds, City go clear on top https://briefnews.eu/pl-wrap-96th-min-drama-stuns-utd-as-reds-city-go-clear-on-top/ https://briefnews.eu/pl-wrap-96th-min-drama-stuns-utd-as-reds-city-go-clear-on-top/#respond Sat, 20 Oct 2018 20:39:34 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/pl-wrap-96th-min-drama-stuns-utd-as-reds-city-go-clear-on-top/ LIVERPOOL and Manchester City are tied atop the Premier League table after Chelsea dropped points in a dramatic 2-2 draw with Manchester United.

The Red Devils looked home after Anthony Martial’s double handede them the lead, before Ross Barkley’ 96th minute equaliser spoiled the party – and helped cause a fracas on the touchline.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds registered a 1-0 victory over Huddersfield as Mohamed Salah got back among the goals, while City were rampant in a 5-0 win over Burnley as five different players got on the scoresheet.

Elsewhere, Spurs beat West Ham 1-0 care of an Erik Lamela strike, Cardiff got their first win as they beat Fulham 4-2, while Bournemouth and Southampton played out a scoreless draw.

Newcastle are still winless after going down 1-0 to Brighton, as Wolves were beaten 2-0 by Watford.

HERE’S A FULL WRAP OF THE OVERNIGHT PREMIER LEAGUE RESULTS…

CHELSEA 2-2 MANCHESTER UNITED

Ross Barkley has scored deep into stoppage time to earn Chelsea a 2-2 English Premier League draw with Manchester United.

Substitute Barkley struck in the 96th minute to maintain Chelsea’s unbeaten league start on Saturday.

Anthony Martial looked to have given United the win with a second-half brace, cancelling out Antonio Ruediger’s opener at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea move top of the table, one point clear of Manchester City and Liverpool, who play Burnley and Huddersfield respectively, later.

HUDDERSFIELD 0-1 LIVERPOOL

Mohamed Salah ended a four-match goal drought for Liverpool with a sublime strike that secured a nervous 1-0 Premier League victory away to Huddersfield on Saturday.

Salah has struggled for consistency this season, and was a doubt for the trip to West Yorkshire after suffering a hamstring problem while on international duty with Egypt during the week.

But in the 24th minute he steered in Xherdan Shaqiri’s pass to score his 50th goal in English club football, ensuring Liverpool ended Saturday level on points with league leaders Manchester City.

MANCHESTER CITY 5-0 BURNLEY

Manchester City’s devastating attack was back to peak form against their old goalkeeper Joe Hart as a 5-0 victory over Burnley at the Etihad on Saturday returned Pep Guardiola’s side to the top of the Premier League.

After a rare goalless outing in their last league fixture, a draw at Liverpool, City’s win featured two goals in as many minutes early in the second half from Bernardo Silva and Fernandinho, adding to Sergio Aguero’s first-half effort, before Riyad Mahrez and Leroy Sane completed the rout.

WEST HAM 0-1 SPURS

Erik Lamela fired Tottenham into the Premier League’s top four as the revitalised winger clinched a 1-0 win against London rivals West Ham on Saturday.

Lamela struck with a cool header late in the first half at the London Stadium to give Tottenham their fourth successive league victory.

That made it five goals in just eight appearances this season for Lamela, who was making only his second league start of the campaign.

– AFP

WOLVES 0-2 WATFORD

Watford struck twice in 58 seconds and cruised past Wolverhampton 2-0 to end a five-match winless run in the English Premier League on Saturday.

Watford rose above Wolves into seventh.

Wolves has conceded only one goal in its last seven games in all competitions, but Watford blew them away midway through the first half..

Abdoulaye Doucoure set up midfielder Etienne Capoue to hit a 30-yard drive through Conor Coady’s legs into the bottom corner, without goalkeeper Rui Patricio moving.

Just 58 seconds later Doucoure fed Roberto Pereyra on the left, and the forward sent a brilliant finish over Patricio and into the roof of the net.

NEWCASTLE 0-1 BRIGHTON

Newcastle dropped to the bottom of the English Premier League after extending its winless start to nine games in losing to Brighton 1-0 at home on Saturday.

There was a touch of fortune about Beram Kayal’s 29th-minute strike, which came via a deflection off Jose Izquierdo’s volley, on an afternoon when Brighton striker Glenn Murray left the field on a stretcher with a head injury. Newcastle’s defeat was all the harder to take for manager Rafael Benitez as he saw his team create more than enough chances to take at least a point.

CARDIFF 4-2 FULHAM

Cardiff recorded its first win of the season in the English Premier League by beating Fulham 4-2 and moved off the bottom of the standings on Saturday.

Fulham scored the best goal of the game – through Andre Schurrle’s 30-meter strike – but the league’s leakiest defense soon conceded twice, to Josh Murphy and Bobby Reid.

Ryan Sessegnon equalized before halftime with his first Premier League goal, but makeshift striker Callum Paterson restored Cardiff’s lead, and substitute Kadeem Harris secured the victory three minutes from time.

Fulham, which has conceded 25 goals in nine games, dropped into the bottom three.

Game of Thrones season 8: TWO major stars wrap scenes in a huge twist for the finale https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-two-major-stars-wrap-scenes-in-a-huge-twist-for-the-finale/ https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-two-major-stars-wrap-scenes-in-a-huge-twist-for-the-finale/#respond Mon, 28 May 2018 01:05:43 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-two-major-stars-wrap-scenes-in-a-huge-twist-for-the-finale/

It was recently revealed Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen, had already filmed her character’s last scene in the hugely-popular HBO show Game of Thrones, and she hinted at a controversial ending to the Mother of Dragons.

Joe Dempsie (Gendry) and Hannah Murray (Gilly) are two characters on vastly different journeys in the fantasy drama, having never crossed paths.

Gilly has firmly remained by her partner Samwell Tarly’s (John Bradley) side since she was introduced, while Gendry disappeared in a rowing boat at the end of the third series.

Having just learned he was actually the heir of King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy), Gendry was nowhere to be seen until his shock reappearance at the end of season seven.

Yet the show’s final six episodes could see the pair suddenly having scenes together if the filming schedules are anything to go by.

Speaking about her emotional final scenes on the show, Hannah revealed: “I’ve finished. I’ve shot all my scenes. The final day was definitely very emotional because you’re having to say goodbye to a lot of people.

“I feel so lucky to have been a part of the show for so long,” she told fan-site Winter is Coming.

The former Skins actress may have confirmed an interaction with Deep State actor Joe with a tantalising hint at Gilly’s final arc.

“There are a few from season eight that I can’t actually mention,” she shared.

The Gendry star went on to echo his co-star’s deep feelings about the project, which has completely changed the lives of many of the cast.

“I finished last week for good,” Joe shared at the Con of Thrones in Texas. “It’s a very strange feeling actually.

“There have been people who have been finished periodically over the past month or so, and even watching other people finish was quite emotional at times.

“I thought I was all right, I thought I was going to be fine. And then I happened to be finishing on the same day as a few other actors as well.

Admitting his struggles not to cry on-set, Joe continued: “When they did my little bit I was fine, but it was when they got to the other people that I lost it a little bit.

“I’m fine until I see someone else trying not to cry, at which point I’m done,” he added.

When Daenerys star Emilia shared her feelings on the fiery Targaryen’s final scene, she admitted it was a difficult thing to process.

“It f****d me up,” she bluntly revealed.

The Solo: A Star Wars Story star added to this month’s Vanity Fair magazine: “Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavour in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is…”

Her revealing comments are a worry for fans, possibly pointing the finger at a terrible act in the queen’s last moments.

Game of Thrones season eight concludes on HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2019.
