Four people have been shot in a busy downtown area of Denver, Colorado. One of the persons that were shot has died at the scene. Police are still looking for the armed attacker.

The shooting took place in Lower Downtown just after 4 pm local time on Monday, Denver police said. Three victims were transported to Denver Health in critical condition. There is no information on the identity or whereabouts of the suspect or suspects.

“At this time we do not have a suspect in custody on this,” police spokesman Doug Schepman told reporters.

The incident happened at the intersection of 21st and Lawrence streets, three blocks away from Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies baseball team. Police have blocked off the area and closed several nearby roads.

Initial reports gave news of one dead and four wounded, including a woman with a leg injury. Schepman said that police have not been able to find that fifth victim.

“We’re obviously concerned” about a shooting in the heavily trafficked urban area, Schepman said, adding that the Denver PD detectives were working hard to get more information on the case.

According to local media, business owners in the area had complained about safety concerns in recent weeks, and a homeless person was found murdered on Sunday just two blocks away. Schepman said there were no indications the two incidents were connected.

Dan Crenshaw had the last laugh when NBC’s Saturday Night Live invited the Navy SEAL-turned-Texas congressman to return fire against cast member Pete Davidson.

During a Weekend Update segment on the Nov. 4 SNL, Davidson offered his “first impressions” on several candidates running for office in the midterm election.

Referring to a picture of the eye-patched Crenshaw’, he said, “You may be surprised to hear he’s a congressional candidate in Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie.” Davidson then cemented his fate as a target for criticism and controversy by adding, “I’m sorry, I know he lost his eye in war, or whatever. Whatever.”

Crenshaw earlier this week dismissed the dis, saying, “SEALs don’t get offended. That’s just not what we do. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t offensive, but let’s stop demanding apologies and firings of people. Let’s just… demand that comedy actually be funny, but let’s be good people.”

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A suicide bomber driving an ambulance killed at least 95 people and wounded 158 more in an attack claimed by the Taliban in the Afghan capital Kabul, authorities said.

The bombing Saturday came just a week after Taliban militants killed 22 at an international hotel in the city.

The attacker used the ambulance to get through a security checkpoint in central Kabul, telling police he was taking a patient to a nearby hospital, said Nasrat Rahimi, deputy spokesperson for the Interior Ministry. He then detonated his explosives at a second checkpoint, Rahimi said.

The Health Ministry said 95 were killed and 158 wounded.

“The majority of the dead in the attack are civilians, but of course we have military casualties as well,” Rahimi said. He said four suspects had been arrested and were being questioned but he didn’t elaborate.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, claimed responsibility for the bombing, which sent thick, black smoke into the sky from the site near the government’s former Interior Ministry building. Also nearby are the European Union and Indian consulates.

The powerful explosion was felt throughout the capital and covered the blast area in smoke and dust. At the scene, dozens of vehicles were damaged or destroyed. Several shops, including some selling antiques and photography equipment, were also destroyed.

Windows at nearby Jamhuriat government hospital were shattered and its walls damaged. People ran out to help and ambulances arrived to transport dozens of wounded to area hospitals.

The International Committee of the Red Cross condemned the attack in a tweet, saying: “The use of an ambulance in today’s attack in #Kabul is harrowing. This could amount to perfidy under IHL. Unacceptable and unjustifiable.”

It was the second successful Taliban attack in a week on high security targets in the city.

Last Saturday, six Taliban militants attacked the Intercontinental Hotel, leaving 22 people dead, including 14 foreigners.

Some 150 guests fled the gun battle and fire sparked by the assault by shimmying down bedsheets from the upper floors. The U.S. State Department said multiple American citizens were killed and injured in the attack.

Afghan security forces have struggled to fight the Taliban since the U.S. and NATO formally ended their combat mission in 2014.

President Donald Trump has pursued a plan that involves sending thousands more U.S. troops to Afghanistan and envisions shifting away from a “time-based” approach to one that more explicitly links U.S. assistance to concrete results from the Afghan government.

Trump’s U.N. envoy, Nikki Haley, said after a recent visit to Afghanistan that Trump’s policy was working and that peace talks between the government and the Taliban are closer than ever before.

On Dec. 28 a suicide bomber and other explosions at a Shiite cultural center in Kabul killed at least 41 people in an attack claimed by the Islamic State group that may have been aimed at a pro-Iran news outlet based in the building.

On Wednesday, IS militants stormed the offices of Save the Children in eastern Afghanistan killing four and triggering a standoff with police that lasted almost 10 hours. The Islamic State group was involved in at least 10 fatal attacks in Afghanistan last year.

The shooting has resulted in the first reported casualties among Iranian law enforcement since the beginning of the protests, which have engulfed the Islamic Republic since December 28.

Earlier on Monday, it was reported that the number of civilians killed amid the pro-and anti-government demonstrations has grown to 10. More than 400 people have been arrested in the protests, AFP said.

Iran is still witnessing a wave of demonstrations, which are being held in many cities across the country. The protests initially began on Thursday, as people took to the streets to express their discontent over soaring food prices and unemployment.

However, a number of the rallies soon turned into larger anti-government demonstrations as the crowds directed their anger at the Iranian government and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The anti-government rallies were also countered by equally massive pro-government demonstrations. Actions in support of Iranian leaders were held in some 1,200 cities and towns across Iran, including the capital, Tehran, and the second-most populous city, Mashhad.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the ongoing wave of protests may have been partially stirred up by external forces interested in destabilizing the Islamic Republic. “The enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran are angry with the glory, success, and the progress of the Iranian nation; and they have vowed to get the regional troubles into Iran,” he said at a meeting with chairmen of the parliament’s commissions on Monday, according to the Mehr news agency.

He noted, however, that many people on the streets are genuinely expressing their concerns over existing difficulties, adding that the present situation is a “threat” that should be “turned into opportunity” by dealing with the root causes of the problems. However, he said that Iran would counter “a small minority group” of rioters and outlaws seeking to exploit the protests and use them to harm Iran.

The situation in the Islamic Republic has attracted the attention of US President Donald Trump, who said Iran “is failing at all levels” in one of his first tweets of 2018. Earlier, he posted a series of tweets, in which he criticized the Iranian government and repeatedly stated that Iran needs “change.” Trump’s comments provoked an angry reaction from the Iranian authorities, with Rouhani calling him an “ill-wisher.”

On Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed its hope that the situation in Iran would not develop into “a scenario of bloodshed and violence.” It also said that the protests are an internal matter for the Islamic Republic, and called any form of external interference “inadmissible.”

Three US Army Special Forces troops were killed and two were wounded while conducting a patrol with Niger troops in southwest Niger on Wednesday, The New York Times reported.

The wounded Green Berets were reportedly in “stable condition” and evacuated to Niamey, the country’s capital, where they will then be transported to Germany.

The joint patrol, conducted to train Niger troops, was considered routine, according to US military officials who also said that eight to ten US troops were part of the patrol, Fox News reported.

Five Nigerien soldiers were also killed, according to an official for the region of Tillaberi, Niger.

“We can confirm reports that a joint US and Nigerien patrol came under hostile fire in southwest Niger,” a spokesman for US Africa Command said. The US military has had a presence in the volatile region for several years.

A source in the Special Operations community said that the US troops were part of 3rd Special Forces Group, a military detachment that has shifted its area of operations to Africa in recent years, according to SOFREP. The source also said there were around 40 enemy combatants during the time of the ambush.

In 2013, the US set up a drone base in Niger to combat extremist organizations in West Africa, including the Islamic Stte, Boko Haram, and an affiliate of Al Qaeda.
