One replied to the original comment: “Could it be he was undercover at the time as a PC or DC? As that would explain for the lack of Sergeant Stripes.

“Adding to this theory he is wearing a police jacket like a PC would wear as it is very rare for a detective to be wearing one of those in the show,” they said.

But someone else disagreed: “Steve’s way too scrappy for undercover work – last time they left him unsupervised he f****d a witness and messed about with Lindsey. Would be an interesting twist for this season though!”

Another did some more digging: “I have just looked it up and that’s not Steve’s collar numbers as his ones are 1561 and the one is the photo is 3947,” begging the question as to whether this is even his vest.

‘Get a grip!’ Dr Hilary Jones warns of ‘really worrying’ risk of UK second COVID-19 wave https://briefnews.eu/get-a-grip-dr-hilary-jones-warns-of-really-worrying-risk-of-uk-second-covid-19-wave/ https://briefnews.eu/get-a-grip-dr-hilary-jones-warns-of-really-worrying-risk-of-uk-second-covid-19-wave/#respond Mon, 14 Sep 2020 07:18:07 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/get-a-grip-dr-hilary-jones-warns-of-really-worrying-risk-of-uk-second-covid-19-wave/

Speaking to ITV Good Morning Britain viewers, Dr Hilary Jones stressed the more people Britons get in contact with, the higher the risk of spreading coronavirus as he urged everyone to follow the rule of six. He admitted the maximum number of people Britons will be able to meet from Monday was an “arbitrary” figure decided on modelling more than data, but urged everyone to “get a grip”.

He said: “We’re seeing a rise in cases, over 3,000 again three days on the trot.

“We’re seeing an increase in hospitalisations and nine deaths in the UK. It may not sound much now but when you see a rise in cases you will see inevitably a rise in hospitalisations.

“We’re also seeing a rise in the number of cases in care homes which is really worrying.

“These are the people who are most vulnerable.

“I think there’s been about 1,000 cases in care homes around the country. So we need to get a grip on this.

“We need to make sure people understand why social distancing is so important. The rule of six is easy to understand, six is an arbitrary figure and it’s based on modelling rather than any other signs.

“But the more people that individuals come into contact with, the more the transmission will spread.”

The coronavirus “rule of six” came into force in England on Monday, meaning any social gatherings of more than six people will break the law.

People face fines of up to £3,200 if they do not abide by the new measure, which applies to both indoor and outdoor settings and follows a rapid increase in the number of daily positive cases.

Regulations enabling the enforcement of the rule were published late on Sunday night, around 30 minutes before they came into effect.

More than 3,000 COVID-19 cases were recorded in the UK for the third day in a row on Sunday – the first time since May that cases were above 3,000 on three consecutive days.

The new law comes amid concerns about an increase in cases in care homes and growing criticism of the NHS Test and Trace system.

Aside from limited exemptions including work and education, police will be able to disperse gatherings of more than six people and issue fines ranging from £100 to £3,200.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist, who leads the Metropolitan Police’s response to coronavirus, said officers will be deployed in every borough to patrol public spaces and respond swiftly to incidents where groups gather in large numbers.

“Where people just won’t listen, and are putting everyone at risk, we absolutely will take enforcement action,” he said.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said the recent rise in cases “makes it clear that more needs to be done to stop the spread of this disease”.

The rule applies across England and replaces the existing ban on participating in gatherings of more than 30 and the current guidance on allowing two households to meet indoors.

Chair of the National Police Chiefs’ Council Martin Hewitt has urged the public to “stick to the limits”.

He said: “Preventing the spread of coronavirus is a shared effort and police are playing our part alongside Government, businesses, hospitality owners, local authorities and others.

“Officers are in their communities following our approach to engage, explain and encourage people to follow the rules. We will issue fines when people refuse to comply.

“The demands on the police service are now at similar levels to before the pandemic, which makes it crucially important that we all take personal responsibility, stick to the limits and prevent the spread of this deadly virus.”

Meanwhile, a survey suggests a second peak is the number one concern among medics who want to avoid a return to the “horror and tragedy” of the pandemic’s early days.

The British Medical Association (BMA) poll found that 86 percent of more than 8,000 doctors and medical students in England said that a second peak was likely or very likely in the next six months.

“While watching a YouTube video, I came across a really interesting comment.

“Somebody added that Tokyo is telling the story to Nairobi’s son. I don’t know about you, but my mind is BLOWN.”

One fan agreed, insisting she would be locked up though, writing: “I actually think they all end up dying except Tokyo but like you said she’s telling the story from jail.”

Outlander season 5: Jamie Fraser to kill Murtagh? Fans spot worrying book clue https://briefnews.eu/outlander-season-5-jamie-fraser-to-kill-murtagh-fans-spot-worrying-book-clue/ https://briefnews.eu/outlander-season-5-jamie-fraser-to-kill-murtagh-fans-spot-worrying-book-clue/#respond Sat, 01 Feb 2020 05:51:12 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/outlander-season-5-jamie-fraser-to-kill-murtagh-fans-spot-worrying-book-clue/

Starz began adapting Diana Gabaldon’s epic series of novels in 2014, and dedicated viewers have trawled through the original Outlander books for any pointers about what’s to come in the upcoming season.

BBC’s Doctor Who may have the upper hand on shocking time travel twists after its last episode but Outlander’s expansive historical action and unconventional romance between a WWII nurse, Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan), an 18th Century Highland warrior, is about to show the Time Lord how it’s done.

True fans of the series will know The Fiery Cross, the book the upcoming season is set to adapt, features the conclusions of several major plot threads.

One fan took to Reddit to highlight a potential clue stemming from the series’ apparently wonky timeline.

Redditor silverandcold65 said: “Didn’t Claire, on the show, return to the past maybe two years before she did in the books?

“I feel certain Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) will die in the season five finale, probably at Jamie’s hand.”

Each book averages out at around 800 pages and with multiple timelines being juggled it’s easy to see how some details can frequently get lost in the shuffle.

Still, this doesn’t negate the fact Jamie’s hunt for Murtagh will need to go ahead if he’s to retain his favour with the royal governor of North Carolina, William Tryon.

In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, actor Sam confirmed the finale could be “tough to watch” for certain fans, stirring the rumours Murtagh could die at Jamie’s hand.

Another Redditor commented: “When Sam referred to the finale my first thought went to Murtagh because that would definitely be tough to watch.”

Coronation Street spoilers: Heartbreaking death ‘revealed’ as fans spot worrying clue https://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-heartbreaking-death-revealed-as-fans-spot-worrying-clue/ https://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-heartbreaking-death-revealed-as-fans-spot-worrying-clue/#respond Sun, 01 Sep 2019 00:05:39 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-heartbreaking-death-revealed-as-fans-spot-worrying-clue/

There are a number of explosive storylines on Coronation Street right now with Michelle Connor (played by Kim Marsh) coming close to finding out Robert Preston’s (Tristan Gemmill) betrayal and Gary Windass’ (Mikey North) plan to take over Underworld.

Furthermore, young Hope Stape is set to cause a devastating fire at the builder’s yard in upcoming episodes.

But nothing will compare to the heartbreaking death viewers are sure they’ve uncovered in a behind-the-scenes snap.

In one shot from the set of the ITV soap, cards can be seen lined up on the mantelpiece in Ken Barlow’s (William Roache) house.

While these could be birthday or anniversary cards, some fans are certain they’re sympathy cards.

In addition, Beth Tinker (Lisa George) can be seen visibly upset in the snap leading viewers to fear Sinead Tinker’s (Katie McGlynn) death has been revealed.

“Sympathy cards on ken’s wall unit,” one fan was quick to comment.

Another added: “Yup, sympathy cards but the look of them.”

A third continued: “I hope Sinead hasn’t died, it looks like there’s cards on the mantelpiece… Beth is at Kens too. This isn’t looking good.”

In recent weeks, the machinist learned her cancer treatment had been working which thrilled husband Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard).

But reports have suggested she will in fact be told treatment isn’t working and she will die in a tragic storyline.

Furthermore, there have been rumours actress Katie will be leaving the soap later this year.

A spokesperson for Coronation Street told Digital Spy: “Katie is fully committed to playing out the extremely important storyline she is currently portraying on screen.

“This story still has a long way to go. Any speculation threatens to undermine the storyline for viewers.”

It comes after Daniel star Rob teased the new family wouldn’t get the happy ending fans want them to have.

He explained: “It’s a ray of hope in a really dark time. The good news is exactly what he wanted to hear.

“But I think he’s probably indulged it a little bit too much and has convinced himself that the outcome is going to be positive.”

Rob added: “He’s had to be the most positive one. Sinead is suffering to an almost unimaginable extent, so he really has no choice because she is his world.”

Will Daniel lose his wife after she learns her treatment hasn’t been working or are the cards in Ken’s house simply birthday cards?

Coronation Street continues Monday on ITV at 7.30pm.

Emmerdale spoilers: Jessie Dingle’s death sealed? Sandra Marvin drops worrying hint https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-jessie-dingles-death-sealed-sandra-marvin-drops-worrying-hint/ https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-jessie-dingles-death-sealed-sandra-marvin-drops-worrying-hint/#respond Wed, 26 Jun 2019 08:52:29 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-jessie-dingles-death-sealed-sandra-marvin-drops-worrying-hint/

The headteacher was the victim of an armed siege in her own home on the ITV soap in last night’s terrifying double bill.

It all came about as Max (Jordan Reece) sought revenge on Jessie’s (Sandra Marvin) son Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle).

However, the troubled Emmerdale character wasn’t home so it was Jessie, Marlon (Mark Charnock) and his daughter April (Amelia Flanagan) who were caught up in the ordeal and held at gunpoint.

After an altercation when Billy returned home, Jessie fell into Marlon’s arms and was taken off in ambulance but her fate remained unclear.

Now, actress behind the role, Sandra Marvin, has spoken about the scene on Twitter.

“Oh Jessie! Thank you for your messages following tonight’s #Emmerdale … And yes Amelia Flannigan @pinkferg84 is an absolute star! Such an amazingly talented young lady! So much love for her @emmerdale xxx,” she wrote to her followers.

But could Sandra’s message thanking fans for their support signal that Jessie is gone for good?

Viewers will have to wait and see if she manages to pull through the horrific ordeal.

The shooting unfolded after Max forced Jessie to get Billy to come back to the house.

When he arrived, he helped young April escape as armed police surrounded the building.

Billy tried his best to reason with Max and the pair began to struggle.

He got the gun off Max and then set about delivering a brutal beating.

Poor Jessie was horrified and told him to stop before the situation escalated and she was shot.

Meanwhile, Billy could’ve got Max out of his life for good as he had the chance to kill him then and there, but before he could the police burst through the door.

Jessie was then carted off into an ambulance and Marlon was left distraught.

Elsewhere in the village, it looks like one couple will be splitting up following a major betrayal.

Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter) and Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) have seen their relationship blossom in recent months but it seems as though the end is near.

The arrival of Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) caused some degree of tension and it will get too much for Eric next week.

He prepares to fight wrestler Bear in the ring but Faith halts the fight leaving Eric to storm off.

But is it really over for good? Viewers will have to wait and see.

Emmerdale continues tonight at 7pm on ITV.

Emmerdale spoilers: Vanessa Woodfield DIES from stabbing as Tracy drops worrying clue? https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-vanessa-woodfield-dies-from-stabbing-as-tracy-drops-worrying-clue/ https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-vanessa-woodfield-dies-from-stabbing-as-tracy-drops-worrying-clue/#respond Thu, 10 Jan 2019 20:57:47 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-vanessa-woodfield-dies-from-stabbing-as-tracy-drops-worrying-clue/

Emmerdale treated viewers to two episodes of the soap tonight, but left them on a major cliffhanger: will Vanessa Woofdield (Michelle Hardwick) die from the stabbing?

Vanessa was rushed to hospital earlier in the evening after being stabbed by Lachlan White’s (Thomas Atkinson) father Donny.

It comes as the murderer, who was sentenced to life for his crimes, rang his dad in last night’s episode and asked him to “up the ante” with the threats against Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper).

Viewers saw Donny covering the back of the Woolpack in petrol when Vanessa, who was getting into her car with her son saw.

Determined to put a stop to his life-threatening crime, Vanessa jumped out of the car to confront the hooded thug.

But in a shock turn of events, Donny pulled a knife out and stabbed the vet in the lower abdomen, leaving her breathless and bleeding on the pavement.

After throwing a lighter at the petrol, the back of the pub lit up into a blaze of amber flames and Donny took Vanessa’s car and drove off, only to realise a few miles out of the village, her son was still sitting in the back.

Scenes then saw Vanessa struggle to ring Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), but eventually the dial rang through and she told her girlfriend she was injured.

Luckily, the paramedics arrived shortly after and whisked Vanessa off to hospital, whilst Charity went on the hunt for Johnny.

After successfully finding Johnny unharmed in the back of the car, the pub landlord arrived at the accident and emergency unit only to be told some grave news.

“How’s Vanessa?” she gasped, but her family just looked to one another.

“What?” Charity demanded and Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) was first to speak up: “She’s in a bad way, she took a turn for the worse on the way in.”

“Well where is she?” she continued, but as Paddy tried to convince her she wouldn’t be able to see her girlfriend, Charity bumped into Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh) in another waiting room.

“What’s happening,” Charity urged and Tracey replied: “They think it’s internal bleeding.”

“They rushed her straight into surgery,” Frank Clayton (Michael Praed) added.

“Oh this is all my fault. Ok, I need to see her, I need to let her know Johnny is alright!” Charity begged.

“You do, but you can’t yet,” Tracey explained.

“But she’s going to be alright Tracy?” Charity questioned, “Please tell me she’s going to be alright?”

Tracy and Frank just looked to one another, unable to confirm whether or not Vanessa was going to pull through.

Have they been told by doctors Vanessa has a slim chance of survival and they are saving Charity from any worry until they know for definite whether or not Vanessa is going to live?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV.

These are not abstract nouns but legal entities, run by asset managers, private-equity firms, hedge funds or others, that own more than half of American leveraged loans. CLO managers chop the loans into slices and sell the parts to match their investors’ appetites for risk.

However ugly its terms, both borrowers and investors have discovered beauty in the market for leveraged loans. Some financial watchdogs, with memories of the crisis of 2007-08 still fresh, fear that the loans will soon lose their looks. In recent days Janet Yellen, who headed the Federal Reserve until January, and Daniel Tarullo, the Fed’s chief bank supervisor after the crisis, have joined the chorus of concern.
