Mark and Amy’s fight is far from over on All Rise. In TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek from Monday’s episode (CBS, 9/8c), Amy still hasn’t returned home after storming out during an argument with her boyfriend.

For those in need of a refresher: Shocking evidence about an old case recently surfaced on Mark’s doorstep, courtesy of a mystery sender. But instead of sticking with Amy’s advice about what to do, Mark sought out his best friend Lola’s guidance, which didn’t sit well with his girlfriend.

Now, Mark (played by Wilson Bethel) is frantically calling Amy (Lindsey Gort) between dealing with his TikTok case involving the kids who threw parties during COVID. “Amy, you didn’t come home last night, and I need you to text me and at least let me know you’re OK,” he says in a concerned voicemail message. “Otherwise, I’m going to have to start calling the hospitals.”

Although Mark and Amy are frequently on opposite sides when it comes to the law, “what’s going to be great is…how they grow as a couple, and how they figure out how to be a couple and professionals in the same household,” co-showrunner Dee Harris-Lawrence tells TVLine.

Elsewhere in this week’s episode: When Lola’s husband, Robin, shows up in her courtroom in his official FBI capacity, Benner insists that Lola recuse herself.

India’s government decided it did not want to find out. Last week it granted Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS), one of India’s biggest shadow banks, a parachute. Plenty are worrying that it will not be enough.

As recently as early September, IL&FS raised few concerns. A couple of weeks later it had defaulted on several payments to creditors. By the end of the month it had said it would raise 45bn rupees ($ 630m) of fresh capital through a rights issue from its owners, including the Life Insurance Corporation of India, a state-owned insurer. On October 1st the government forced out the board and appointed a new one. It was, in effect, a shadow-bank bail-out.

IL&FS is a very Indian beast. It was founded in 1987, with the support of state-owned banks, to provide finance to local governments for infrastructure. It has grown into a vast conglomerate, with 169 group companies. It finances, builds and runs everything from toll roads to “smart cities”, not just in India but abroad. Though it is private, the projects it runs, and the roughly 40% of its equity that is owned by nationalised firms, make it what Indian analysts call “quasi-sovereign”. If it went bust, projects…

The slightly creepy technology will allow people to feel like they are speaking to dead relatives — or could even be used to generate inspiring speeches from well-known authors and lecturers long after they are dead.

“The creative possibilities here are endless,” Suwajanakorn said in a recent TED speech.

Demonstrating the technology, the computer scientist played a public statement that had originally been made by George W. Bush — but this time, it was recited by other well-known faces like Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Tom Hanks and Daniel Craig.

Suwajanakorn says the technology can mimic even the tiniest mannerisms of a person, even recreating their frowns and wrinkles, to create highly realistic replicas.

But unsurprisingly, there are some worries about technology that can so precisely replicate the features of any person in the world using just pictures and video.

In the wrong hands, Suwajanakorn said the technology could lead to the creation of fake videos made with the intent to mislead people — in other words, fake news could really be taken up a notch.

“I am fighting against my own work, by implementing moderators to detect fake images and videos,” he said.

One of the planned tools to prevent misuse of the technology is called the “reality defender” — which is basically a browser plug-in which has the ability to detect fake content.

But, if used properly, Suwajanakorn said that the technology will “allow any individual’s positive influence on the world to live on”.
