Barry and Kay still refused to meet the owner’s demands, however, and instead put forward £105,000 as their “last, last” offer.

Luckily for the two, the owner eventually accepted the offer and the pair’s U-turn paid off as they landed their dream holiday home.

Still stunned by the events, Jasmine commented: “You get it for that price, that will be the deal of the century, to be honest.”

“I can’t believe it,” Jasmine said to Barry and Kay before telling Channel 4 viewers: “That completely took me by surprise, a last-minute change of property.”

A Place in the Sun continues weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4.

Tucker Carlson Reacts to Exit of Top Writer Who Authored Racist and Sexist Posts: ‘We Don’t Endorse Those Words’ https://briefnews.eu/tucker-carlson-reacts-to-exit-of-top-writer-who-authored-racist-and-sexist-posts-we-dont-endorse-those-words/ https://briefnews.eu/tucker-carlson-reacts-to-exit-of-top-writer-who-authored-racist-and-sexist-posts-we-dont-endorse-those-words/#respond Tue, 14 Jul 2020 02:08:29 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/tucker-carlson-reacts-to-exit-of-top-writer-who-authored-racist-and-sexist-posts-we-dont-endorse-those-words/

Tucker Carlson on Monday night shared his thoughts on the resignation of Blake Neff, his Fox News program’s top writer, who was revealed to have penned racist and sexist messages using a pseudonym.

“What Blake wrote anonymously was wrong,” Carlson said towards the end of the hour on Monday. “We don’t endorse those words. They have no connection to the show.” He acknowledged that Blake “fell short” of the standards of human decency, “and he has paid a heavy price for that.”

Carlson then directed his ire to the “ghouls now beating their chest in triumph.” To those celebrating Neff’s exit, Carlson said, “righteousness also has its costs. When we pose as blameless in order to hurt other people, we are committing the gravest sin of all.”

He then announced that he will be going on a pre-planned vacation. Watch the embattled anchor’s full address below:

A Fox News rep told CNN Business that Neff resigned on July 10 from Tucker Carlson Tonight, after an investigation revealed that Neff had been posting on AutoAdmit, a message board notorious for vulgar and offensive content. As “CharlesXII,” Neff made a series of brazenly racist comments, including a June 5 post that read: “Black doods staying inside playing Call of Duty is probably one of the biggest factors keeping crime down.” He also wrote that he “wouldn’t get LASIK from an Asian for free” and commented that “given how tired black people always claim to be, maybe the real crisis is their lack of sleep.”

Previously a reporter at conservative outlet The Daily Caller, Neff worked for Fox News for four years and was considered Carlson’s top writer. (As Neff once told a Dartmouth alumni magazine, “anything [Carlson is] reading off the teleprompter, the first draft was written by me.”)

Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott and president/executive editor Jay Wallace confirmed in a statement that Neff “made horrendous and deeply offensive racist, sexist and homophobic comments,” adding: “We want to make abundantly clear that FOX News Media strongly condemns this horrific racist, misogynistic and homophobic behavior…. [A]ctions such as his cannot and will not be tolerated at any time in any part of our workforce”

Carlson himself attracted controversy in March 2019, when comments he made years prior on the Bubba the Love Sponge shock jock radio program resurfaced. There, Carlson described women as “very primitive,” called Martha Stewart’s daughter Alexis “c–ty,” and dubbed Britney Spears and Paris Hilton “the biggest white whores in America.” He also said on the call-in program that “Iraq is a crappy place filled with… semi-literate primitive monkeys.”

Carlson did not apologize for those years-old comments but instead dismissed the hubbub as “liberal hypocrisy,” asserting that he and Fox News “will never bow to the mob, ever, no matter what.” And despite all that and more since, Tucker Carlson Tonight is the top-rated program on all of cable news, averaging a record 4.3 million total viewers last quarter.

SVU Finale Sneak Peek: Olivia Has Harsh Words for a Predator’s Lawyer https://briefnews.eu/svu-finale-sneak-peek-olivia-has-harsh-words-for-a-predators-lawyer/ https://briefnews.eu/svu-finale-sneak-peek-olivia-has-harsh-words-for-a-predators-lawyer/#respond Thu, 23 Apr 2020 14:36:01 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/svu-finale-sneak-peek-olivia-has-harsh-words-for-a-predators-lawyer/

Did it just get dark in this courtroom, or is Law & Order: SVU‘s Benson just throwing a ton of shade?

The exclusive clip below — from tonight’s impromptu season finale, thanks to the coronavirus shutdown — takes place during the lead-up to Sir Tobias Moore’s long-awaited trial. (Don’t remember Sir Toby? He’s the media mogul, played by American Gods‘ Ian McShane, who was outed as a sexual predator in the Season 21 premiere.)

In tonight’s episode (NBC, 10/9c), Mariska Hargitay’s Benson approaches Moore’s lawyer, Elana Barth, and wastes no time shaming her for representing such a morally reprehensible man. “What happened to you?” Olivia asks the attorney. “You were a judge. You had respect for the legal system. You had respect for justice.”

But Barth isn’t having it, arguing that everyone is entitled to a legal defense. Plus, she adds, “I have two sons. You have a son. Can you imagine a scenario: He’s at college, a girl makes a false accusation, their lives are over.” Of course, Olivia has the exact right answer to that hypothetical.

The finale finds Carisi taking the lead on Moore’s trial while his former co-workers at SVU deal as past cases suddenly come to the fore.

Press PLAY on the video above to watch Benson and Barth’s charged conversation, then hit the comments: Do you think Sir Toby will be brought to justice?

‘I don’t want to hear it!’ Piers Morgan leaves Sturgeon lost for words in brutal interview https://briefnews.eu/i-dont-want-to-hear-it-piers-morgan-leaves-sturgeon-lost-for-words-in-brutal-interview/ https://briefnews.eu/i-dont-want-to-hear-it-piers-morgan-leaves-sturgeon-lost-for-words-in-brutal-interview/#respond Wed, 08 Apr 2020 01:18:26 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/i-dont-want-to-hear-it-piers-morgan-leaves-sturgeon-lost-for-words-in-brutal-interview/

Piers Morgan, 55, and co-host Susanna Reid, 49, were joined on the show by SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon, 49, to discuss the current coronavirus outbreak. However, given the news about Catherine Calderwood, 51, flouting the lockdown measures, the Good Morning Britain hosts weren’t going to bypass the opportunity to grill their guest on the matter. As the Life Stories presenter went head-to-head with the politician, the pair clashed as they gave opposing views on the former chief medical officer’s delayed resignation.

BACK BRITAIN’S BRAVE NHS HEROES – CLICK HERE NOW

It was announced on Sunday night Dr Calderwood had resigned from her post with immediate effect, after she was pictured visiting her second home in Earlsferry, Fife, on two separate occasions since the lockdown was implemented.

The former chief medical officer apologised for her error, stating there were “no excuses” for her conduct as her visit was not deemed to be essential travel, but initially said she wasn’t going to stand down from the role.

Sturgeon originally agreed with the notion but following her colleague’s resignation, the First Minister told the hosts she was “not going to defend” the doctor’s actions.

However, as she seemed to praise the former SNP party member’s work, Morgan told the SNP leader he “didn’t want to hear it,” as the pair clashed.

Firstly ranting about Dr Calderwood’s antics, the host told his guest: “With respect First Minister, she did this twice.

“Consecutive weekends, jollies off 40 miles to her second home in flagrant disregard of everything she was saying.

“I just don’t understand why you would even try to defend her and even when she finally resigned, you still seemed very keen paying a glowing tribute to this woman who had completely betrayed you.”

Morgan went on to slam the former chief medical officer’s behaviour as “dangerous”, stating it was impossible to predict how many lives could now be in peril because of her actions.

Going on to praise Dr Calderwood’s work, Sturgeon said: “I know how hard she has worked over the weeks since this outbreak began.”

However, she was immediately stopped in her tracks as Morgan clashed with her over the fact she was commending the work the former chief medical officer had carried out.

Interrupting the guest, the host declared: “You know what, I don’t want to hear it, with respect, honestly to you.

“I have great respect for you and I don’t blame you for this because we all assume you didn’t know anything about this and I take your word for that.”

Morgan continued: “But honestly, continuing to tell me what a great hard worker she was, the damage she’s done is potentially incapable.

“We don’t know what damage she’s done with her behaviour by flying completely against exactly what she was telling people to do.”

Sturgeon once again reiterated she wasn’t “defending” Dr Calderwood and instead, now wanted to put her focus on getting Scotland through the coronavirus crisis.

The resignation came at around 10pm on Sunday night, with the former chief medical officer once again apologising for her actions.

Explaining her decision to stand down, she said: “The first minister and I have had a further conversation this evening and we have agreed that the justifiable focus on my behaviour risks becoming a distraction from the hugely important job that government and the medical profession has to do in getting the country through this coronavirus pandemic.

“Having worked so hard on the government’s response, that is the last thing I want.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.

Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Eventual Series Finale: Does Amy Sherman-Palladino Know the Final Four Words? https://briefnews.eu/marvelous-mrs-maisels-eventual-series-finale-does-amy-sherman-palladino-know-the-final-four-words/ https://briefnews.eu/marvelous-mrs-maisels-eventual-series-finale-does-amy-sherman-palladino-know-the-final-four-words/#respond Wed, 04 Dec 2019 00:48:13 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/marvelous-mrs-maisels-eventual-series-finale-does-amy-sherman-palladino-know-the-final-four-words/

Amy Sherman-Palladino knows how The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel will eventually conclude, right down to the final… emotional beat.

“We know where we want [Midge]’s story to end,” she tells TVLine ahead of Friday’s Season 3 premiere on Amazon. “We don’t know how many more seasons it will take to get there, but we know when the journey is over.”

Unlike with Gilmore Girls, Sherman-Palladino reveals that she does not know what Mrs. Maisel‘s final four words will be. Also unknown: The Emmy-winning comedy’s natural end date.

“We knew how many years we wanted to get Gilmore done in — it didn’t work out [as we hoped] because we left [after Season 6], but it kind of worked out because we came back for the Netflix [revival],” Sherman-Palladino notes. “But we don’t know how many more seasons it will take to get [Maisel to the end].”

As previously reported, Season 3 — a portion of which was filmed on location in Miami — will span eight episodes, on par with the Season 1 count and two episodes shy of its sophomore season length. Season 3 guest stars include Gilmore alum Liza Weil, as well as Cary Elwes (Stranger Things), Stephanie Hsu (The Path) and Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us). —With reporting by Kim Roots

Jade Goody: ‘Can’t put into words’ Davina McCall breaks down in tears in heartbreaking doc https://briefnews.eu/jade-goody-cant-put-into-words-davina-mccall-breaks-down-in-tears-in-heartbreaking-doc/ https://briefnews.eu/jade-goody-cant-put-into-words-davina-mccall-breaks-down-in-tears-in-heartbreaking-doc/#respond Wed, 07 Aug 2019 23:10:57 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/jade-goody-cant-put-into-words-davina-mccall-breaks-down-in-tears-in-heartbreaking-doc/

When Jade first walked in to the Big Brother house in 2002 she immediately left Channel 4 viewers divided.

The Bermondsey-born housemate had been determined to get onto the social experiment programme, and producers said she was instantly watchable.

But her journey was full of trials and tribulations, as Jade’s unapologetic behaviour turned off much of Britain at first.

Then the newspapers jumped on the bandwagon and Jade received growing hate even from within the confines of the Big Brother walls.

Former housemate Alex Sibley recalled sitting in the garden at the Elstree studio one day when a rock was hurled across the fence covered in abuse about Jade.

The public’s perception then turned, and Jade made it to fourth place on the show.

The reality star’s journey outside of the house became a rollercoaster, as she was in the middle of a race row over another fellow Big Brother contestant, Shilpa Shetty, years later.

Jade then tragically lost her life after a short battle with cervical cancer in 2009.

Davina welled up with emotion as she remembered how much being in the spotlight and turning her life around truly meant to Jade when she exited the Big Brother house in the summer of 2002.

Davina’s voice wobbled as she looked back on the moment Jade was announced as coming in fourth place.

READ MORE: Jade the reality star who changed Britain: How many episodes?

“She came fourth but she was the winner,” Davina said. “The feeling of real … I can’t put it into … I cannot tell you what that feels like.”

Davina continued: “I felt such enormous joy at Jade’s great popularity that night.

“I was sort of thinking ‘Oh my God, look she’s just lapping it up. She’s born for this.’”

Becoming even more overwhelmed with emotion, Davina then said: “I remember Jade saying how, you know, she’s always looked after her mum, like all her life.

“And I would look at her and think, ’God you’ve gone into this first foray into being yourself.

“And escaping that past life of drugs and addiction… and then turning that around’.

The presenter then welled up further and it was clear she truly admire Jade.

“I mean it was nothing short of fricking miraculous what she’d done,” Davina added.

The documentary series continues with the next look at Jade’s life on Channel 4 next week.

Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain continues on Channel 4.

Game of Thrones season 8 episode 5: ‘I’ll never forget’ Daenerys’ final words to Ser Jorah https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-5-ill-never-forget-daenerys-final-words-to-ser-jorah/ https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-5-ill-never-forget-daenerys-final-words-to-ser-jorah/#respond Wed, 08 May 2019 05:36:48 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-5-ill-never-forget-daenerys-final-words-to-ser-jorah/

Game of Thrones fans were devastated when Ser Jorah (played by Iain Glen) died being cradled by his long-time companion Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

In emotional scenes, Ser Jorah lay dying on the ground while Daenerys willed him to survive and be by her side like he has done since season one of the HBO series.

Just before he died, he and Daenerys shared a few words and fans have been desperate to know what Daenerys said to him.

Now, actor Iain has continued to tease fans.

He told Entertainment Weekly he and the viewers were never to know what she said to him and the script did not give a line to be said.

Apparently, the stage direction read: “Daenerys whispers something to him that he’ll never hear and we’ll never know…”

Therefore Daenerys star Emilia had to come up with her own lines to add extra emotion.

Iain heard what she said and has revealed it will still between himself and Emilia.

He said: “It’s something entirely sincere and true to the moment and something that I’ll never forget.”

He then responded to being questioned whether he is ready for people to ask him by saying: “Yeah, but you know what? I’ll always cherish it because it’s something no one will ever know but the two of us. And that’s a memory to hold onto.”

The pair had a relationship based on mutual love and affection, but Ser Jorah was romantically attracted to Daenerys and wanted more.

In the latest episode, Daenerys admits to Jon that she could not give Ser Jorah the kind of love he desired from her.

Given that fans will never know what she actually said to him, they have had some fun making up suggestions of what she might have said to him.

One Twitter fan said: “Ser Jorah: Literally dies for Daenerys.
Daenerys: Thanks for being a good friend.”

Another added Daenerys could have said this: “Looks like you are finally out of the friend zone.”

A third fan guessed she might have said: “Starbucks have an offer on?”

The latter suggestion is in reference to the Starbucks coffee cup mistakenly left in episode four scenes as Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is celebrated for his role in the Battle of Winterfell.

Fans now think Sansa Stark star Sophie Turner is responsible for the huge mistake as a photo has surfaced of her holding an identical cup on set while posing for a photo with Lyanna Mormont star Bella Ramsey.

Meanwhile, Daenerys could be set to risk it all and take down lover Jon after he revealed he is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne.

Fans noticed her glare when Jon was being lauded by his fellow soldiers and they think it indicates she is to become the Mad Queen she always potentially could be.

Game of Thrones continues Sunday on HBO in the USA and the following day on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK.

15 German Words That Make Everyone Say “WTF Is Wrong With That Language???” https://briefnews.eu/15-german-words-that-make-everyone-say-wtf-is-wrong-with-that-language/ https://briefnews.eu/15-german-words-that-make-everyone-say-wtf-is-wrong-with-that-language/#respond Fri, 22 Feb 2019 07:08:29 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/15-german-words-that-make-everyone-say-wtf-is-wrong-with-that-language/

1.

The German word "verlegen" has 3 different meanings:

1. to put something somewhere and not being able to find it anymore
2. to publish something, e. g. a book (which is actually putting something where EVERYONE is able to find it)
3. feeling embarrassed

Enjoy our language!

2.

The German word "abgefahren" has 2 meanings:
– departed
– wicked

The German word "angesagt" also has 2 meanings:
– announced
– hip

So "Der angesagte Zug ist abgefahren." translates as:
– "The announced train has departed."
Or:
– "The hip train is wicked."

Enjoy our language!

3.

The German word "Fahne" means
– flag
– smelly breath ("Alkoholfahne" = breath smells of alcohol)

So, when someone says "Heute haben alle eine Fahne", not everyone's carrying flags but stinking like drunkheads (unless it's the World Cup, then we do both).

Enjoy our language!

4.

The German reflexive verb "sich anstellen" can have 2 meanings:
– to queue
– to make a fuss

So, if you want someone to wait in line and not to be a chicken about it you tell him to do one thing – and the exact opposite:

"Stell dich nicht an, stell dich an!"

Enjoy our language!

5.

The German word "Hochzeit" means
– wedding (with short-spoken "o")
– heyday. golden age (long "o")

So, when you read about the "Hochzeit des Punks" it refers to the golden era of the Sex Pistols – or it means that Punk's not dead but finally getting married.

Enjoy our language!

6.

The German word "ausbauen" can have 2 meanings:
– to disassemble
– to enlarge

So if your German hosts say: "Wir haben unsere Küche ausgebaut" it can mean they have a bigger kitchen now – or none at all.

You better ask before you make any plans for dinner.

Enjoy our language!

7.

In German, the word "modern" has 2 meanings:
– modern (pronounced "modérn")
– to rot ("módern")

So, "modern modern" could describe an avant-garde style of decay.
And someone writing "Ich bevorzuge modern" probably likes it modern – or maybe prefers to rot…

Enjoy our language!

8.

The German word "Führer" can describe
– the insane leader of the 3rd Reich
– a travel guide
So, if you meet a group of Germans crying "Wir haben unseren Führer verloren", they are probably NOT mourning that Nazi-asshole but that their tour guide went missing!

Enjoy our language!

9.

The German word "angeben" can mean
– to state
– to brag
The German word "Schimmel" can mean
– mould
– white horse(s)
So, the sentence "Er gab an, er habe Schimmel zuhause", can mean
"He bragged he had white horses at home"
Or
"He stated he had mould at home"

Enjoy our language!

10.

The word "Hamburger" in German describes
– a hamburger
– someone from Hamburg
The word "Frankfurter" in German describes
– a typical sausage
– someone from Frankfurt
(same with Wiener/Vienna)

So yes, you might get the impression, we're cannibals. We're not.

Enjoy our language!

11.

The German word "eintreten" has 2 meanings:
– to enter (e.g. a room)
– to kick in (e.g. a door)

So, if your German host welcomes you in front of his house, points at the closed door and says: "Tretet ein!" you're NOT supposed to open the door with your feet!

Enjoy our language!

12.

The German word "auseinandersetzen" can mean:

– to sit or be seated separately
– to discuss

So if someone says "Wir sollten uns auseinandersetzen" you never know if he wants to talk – or rather not sit next to you at all.

Enjoy our language!

13.

The German word "Einstellung" means
– setting
– attitude

So, it doesn't matter if you want a misbehaving person to change his/her attitude or a malfunctioning robot to adjust its settings. In both cases you'd say: "Du musst deine Einstellung ändern."

Enjoy our language!

14.

The German word "Stollen" describes
– a mining tunnel
– a stud on a football shoe
– a German fruitcake served in Christmas season

That's about the broadest variety of meanings I can think of.

Anyway, whatever kind of Stollen you prefer:

Enjoy Christmas – and our language! 🎄

15.

The German word "Montage" means "Mondays".
The French word "Montage" means "installation" and is used in German, too.

So, the German translation of the Boomtown Rats' "I don't like Mondays" ("Ich mag Montage nicht") could read as "I don't like installation".

Enjoy our language!

H/T to Jens Clasen!
