Max Branning (played by Jake) was last seen on EastEnders weeks ago following the devastating storyline that saw his daughters Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald) and Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) hospitalised after a horrific New Year’s Day fall.

Abi was left braindead and Max was forced to make the terrible decision as her father to switch off her life support, just as his ex-wife Tanya Branning (Jo Joyner) also returned to the BBC soap.

Traumatised by the loss of her sister, a recovering Lauren then left Albert Square in an attempt to give her son Louie a new life.

Unable to cope, Max followed suit but his return this week has showed the character in an entirely new place.

Revealing he’d married a mystery woman who turned out to be Tanya’s sister and his former sister-in-law Rainie (Tanya Franks), Max left Walford residents utterly baffled.

Now the actor has revealed there’s much more to come as the plot’s backstory is explored.

Posting on his Twitter account after the episode, Jake was eager to share his feelings with his 452,000 followers.

He said: “Thanks for all the love people, plenty more twists and turns to come #EastEnders.

“So happy to be working with Tanya Franks as I’ve always been a massive fan of her work,” he added.

While bosses are yet to reveal the truth about how the pairing came about, many fans are sure there is something more sinister at play.

When Abi died Max promised he would raise her newborn daughter as his own, affectionately also named Abi.

But given Max and Tanya’s fraught relationship, the latter is sure to be none-too-happy about the arrangement.

Could Rainie be hiding an ulterior motive in her match with Max, and is she simply trying to get close to her niece’s daughter?

And is Tanya behind everything ready to snatch the child away from a grieving Max?

“Max and Rainie?! She’s got to be using him to get baby Abi for Tanya?! #EastEnders @bbceastenders,” one viewer posted.

While another said: “I’m surprised they hadn’t paired Rainie and Max up before now and I love the fact Robbie [Jackson] was the only one who knew about the whole thing #EastEnders.”

“Omg! I didn’t expect Max to marry Rainie! All to get back at Tanya!.. Max, you are bad!! EastEnders never fails to shock! #eastenders #bbc1 #shocking,” a third speculated.

Actress Tanya also spoke out on the development, saying: “She’s going down a road that I would never have foreseen in the past, so as long as they keep challenging me with new aspects of Rainie then I’ll always enjoy it.

“I think Max and Rainie are working really well together,” she added to Radio Times.

EastEnders continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on BBC One.

Evan Rachel Wood, Gina Rodriguez, and Richard Jenkins to Star in Miranda July’s Heist Film https://briefnews.eu/evan-rachel-wood-gina-rodriguez-and-richard-jenkins-to-star-in-miranda-julys-heist-film/ https://briefnews.eu/evan-rachel-wood-gina-rodriguez-and-richard-jenkins-to-star-in-miranda-julys-heist-film/#respond Fri, 30 Mar 2018 08:33:44 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/evan-rachel-wood-gina-rodriguez-and-richard-jenkins-to-star-in-miranda-julys-heist-film/ Miranda July heist movie

Female-led heist films are officially a trend. With Ocean’s 8 and Widows coming up later this year, a third heist movie is now in the works from indie filmmaker Miranda July. The project is still untitled, but she’s managed to secure Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld) and Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) as two of her lead actors, and the idea of those two co-starring in a movie is almost enough to convince me to see it sight unseen. What’s that? Acclaimed character actor Richard Jenkins (The Shape of Water, Bone Tomahawk) is in this, too? Well, then count me in.

Read more about the Miranda July heist movie below.

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Miranda July, the filmmaker responsible for the 2005 indie darling Me and You and Everyone We Know, is getting behind the camera again to make a heist film for Annapurna Pictures and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment.

The untitled film will follow a woman named Old Dolio “whose life is turned upside down when her parents, amateur con artists, invite an outsider to join their biggest heist yet.” Wood is playing Old Dolio (what a character name), Rodriguez will play the outsider, and Jenkins and Debra Winger (Terms of Endearment, The Ranch) will play the con artist parents.

What Can We Expect?

I haven’t seen Me and You and Everyone We Know, which won a Special Jury Prize at Sundance and picked up another trophy at Cannes, but I have seen July’s other film, a 2011 indie called The Future.

I hated it at the time, but looking back on it, the film was wildly imaginative and couldn’t have been made by anyone else. A cat narrates it, the moon talks to a character at one point, and a T-shirt gains sentience and crawls along the street by itself. It’s very bizarre, and if The Future is anything to go by, it signals that July’s new feature won’t be a typical heist movie. Some of the writer/director’s surrealism seems sure to infiltrate this project, and I’m just hoping it doesn’t completely overshadow the story.

The cast is a compelling combination of personalities I wouldn’t expect to see thrown together, and I’m always a sucker for a good heist story, so I find myself actively looking forward to this one even though I wasn’t crazy about July’s latest cinematic effort. Production starts in May, but there’s no release date in place yet.

Natalie Wood 'MURDER suspected', Robert Wagner alibi 'does not add up' – Case reopened https://briefnews.eu/natalie-wood-murder-suspected-robert-wagner-alibi-does-not-add-up-case-reopened/ https://briefnews.eu/natalie-wood-murder-suspected-robert-wagner-alibi-does-not-add-up-case-reopened/#respond Sat, 03 Feb 2018 13:57:10 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/natalie-wood-murder-suspected-robert-wagner-alibi-does-not-add-up-case-reopened/

Some time during the night of November 28, 1981, the famous actress disappeared over the side of the couple’s 60-foot yacht, The Splendor, near Santa Catalina Island, off the coast of California.

Her lifeless body was fished out of the water one mile away from The Splendor at 8am the following morning. A dinghy from the yacht was found beached close by.

37 years later the case remains unsolved but a new documentary will air on US television this weekend with shocking fresh allegations from the LA County Sheriff department.

Did Wagner know more than he told police at the time?

LA County Lieutenant John Corina said: “I think it’s suspicious enough to make us think that something happened.”

Rumours and speculation have long centred on the facts that Wood had bruising on her body and had a well-documented fear of water. So, why had she gone out alone in a dinghy at night?

Wagner and Christopher Walken, who was also on the yacht at the time, were questioned and have both consistently denied any involvement in or knowledge of the mysterious death.

A coroner recorded a cause of “accidental death by drowning and hypothermia.” Traces of alchol and medication in her bloodstream led the coroner to state that Wood may have slipped while trying to reboard the dinghy.

Corona is asked if he thinks Wagner could more information on the mystery: “Well, I think he does because he’s the last one to see her… I think he’s constantly … he’s changed his story a little bit. …and his version of events just don’t add up.”

in 2011, the captain of The Splendor forced the case to be opened. Dennis Davern publicly stated that he had lied to police during the initial investigation. He went on record saying that Wood and Wagner had an argument that evening, alleging that Wagner was responsible for her death.

After nine months of further investigation, Los Angeles County Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Lakshmanan Sathyavagiswaran, amended the death certificate with new reports that the brusing on Wood’s body was determined to have potentially been caused before her death.

Also the coroner concluded that the manner in which Wood had ended up in the water had not been “clearly established. Consequently, the changed the cause of her death from accidental drowning to “drowning and other undetermined factors.”

Now the ongoing investigation is featured in an explosive 48 Hours special.

Natalie Wood: Death in Dark Water” will be broadcast on Saturday February 3 at on CBS in the US.

During the show, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s investigators tell 48 Hours that Wagner is now a person of interest.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Detective Ralph Hernandez says: “She looked like the victim of an assault.

“We have not been able to prove this was a homicide. And we haven’t been able to prove that this was an accident, either,” says Hernandez. “The ultimate problem is we don’t know how she ended up in the water.”

The troubled businessman had an explosive Christmas which saw both of his daughters, Lauren (played by Jacqueline Jossa) and Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald) fall off the Queen Vic roof.

With Abi’s death now officially confirmed after she was announced as brain dead, it seems that Max’s woes will go from bad to worse.

Speaking to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain  today, 45-year-old Jake teased: “It’s been exciting that John Yorke came back because he really knows the characters.

“He’s kind of really ramping up the storyline,” Jake let slip.

With that kind of tease, it seems certain that Max’s problems will get even worse.

This comes as Abi’s official death date was finally confirmed.

The youngster will officially depart the BBC soap next Friday after her life support machine is turned off.

What’s more, Lauren will be leaving as well, following the recent family tragedy.

EastEnders continues on BBC tomorrow at 7.30pm.

  • Wicker Man is the latest ground-breaking rollercoaster experience from Alton Towers Resort
  • It is world’s first rollercoaster experience fusing wood and fire
  • Due to launch at the Staffordshire theme park in Spring 2018

Alton Towers has long been a favourite for thrill-seekers across the nation, and those fans will be pleased to hear there’s a new ride being added to the resort.

Wicker Man is the world’s first rollercoaster experience fusing wood and fire.

And for those of you who have seen the 1973 cult classic movie, there is a giant flaming Wicker Man who stands six-stories high in the ride.

The project, previously known as SW8, is the latest in a series of mould-breaking ride launches from the Staffordshire theme park that have helped define the industry.

A world-class team of experts continue to work on the new attraction, led by Great Coasters International, the world’s leading creators of wooden rollercoasters.

The safety of guests has been paramount in the design and build of Wicker Man. The latest in proven safety technology has been used, and rigorous testing is now taking place before launch.

Not only that but ride operating team will undertake hundreds of hours of training between now and the opening so guests know they are “in safe hands and can ride in complete confidence”, the release reads.

Interestingly, it is the UK’s first new wooden rollercoaster experience in 21 years and is set to launch this spring.

Riders must be at least 1.2m tall. Bradley Wynne, Creative Lead at Alton Towers Resort describe the rollercoaster as “ground breaking”.

He said: “We are delighted to finally be announcing Wicker Man as the latest ground-breaking thrill attraction from Alton Towers Resort for 2018.

“Guests will be ‘chosen’ to take part in a celebratory ‘rite of passage’ as they race through the flaming Wicker Man.

“We hope visitors will be blown away by Wicker Man’s breath-taking scale whilst the primal essence of the wooden coaster and astonishing effects will leave them delighted, exhilarated and eager to ride again.”

Thousands have taken to Twitter to comment on how excited they are to ride the Wicker Man.

Lee Wood said: “Wicker Man is coming to the Alton Towers Resort!! Literally am buzzing for the new woodie!! It’s gonna be so awesome.”

Sarah O’Connell added: “Alton Towers is making a #WickerManRide out of WOOD, that is actually on FIRE. It’s their safest ride yet!”

Andy Hine MBE, Chairman of the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain said: “We’ve been hoping that Alton Towers would invest in a wooden coaster for a long time, and we’re so pleased it’s finally coming with Wicker Man.

“GCI are known for building really exciting, smooth coasters, and this will be a great compliment to the ‘Big Six’ steel rides already at the park. It’s a big investment which is great for thrill-seekers everywhere, and I for one can’t wait to ride it.”

And new for 2018, guests can purchase their Alton Towers 2018 Season Pass for just £55 by visiting altontowers.com meaning customers can pay for a day, and come back all year. (Exclusions apply. Full terms and conditions can be found online.)

Wizzard's Roy Wood: Where is he now? https://briefnews.eu/wizzards-roy-wood-where-is-he-now/ https://briefnews.eu/wizzards-roy-wood-where-is-he-now/#respond Wed, 27 Dec 2017 14:23:15 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/wizzards-roy-wood-where-is-he-now/

Roy, who was also a founder member of The Move and the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), has had 31 UK top 30 singles and four number ones. Birmingham-born Roy, 71, who is divorced, has one daughter and two grandchildren and lives in Derbyshire. He has just finished his 2017 tour.

“Music was encouraged in my family, especially by my mother and sister who both played the piano. I was four when I began playing the drums, but my life changed aged 12 watching Hank Marvin from The Shadows playing his guitar at Birmingham Town Hall.

“It was amazing and Hank’s guitar sounded like it had been dipped in Dettol: it was clean and fabulous. After that, I didn’t give my parents a minute’s peace because I wanted a guitar to learn Hank’s guitar solos.

“I was 14 when I joined The Falcons, then I formed The Move, which led to chart hits with Blackberry Way, Night Of Fear and Flowers In The Rain, the first song to be played on Radio 1 when it opened in 1967.

“The band would go out and relax when we had time off, while I preferred to sit in my bedroom writing songs because that’s what I loved doing; I distanced myself from fame and chose a private life instead.

“I wanted to gain more experience and try out different kinds of music, so after my next group The Nightriders, I co-founded ELO with Jeff Lynne and Bev Bevan.

“I’d been a classical music fan all my life and listened to it at home with my parents. Although I could play several instruments, I never considered myself professional enough on any of them; I’d teach myself the notes required for the recording session, but I wouldn’t want to be thrown on stage to perform a solo piece!  I stayed with ELO for two years and co-wrote the band’s first album.

“The idea for my facial appearance goes back to the end of my time with The Move, when we had a hit with Brontosaurus. We were doing The Old Grey Whistle Test where I used a long coat, wild hair and black and white make-up. By the time Wizzard started, I thought it would be a shame to waste that image, so I created a multi-coloured version.

“I spent five years with Wizzard, followed by the Wizzo Band, and then 20 years on solo work, writing, producing, doing university gigs and recording under my own name. I started the Roy Wood Rock & Roll Band in 2011 and it means a lot to me.

“I moved to the Peak District in 1997 and I love it. I simply wanted somewhere with enough space to build my recording studio.

“Earlier this year, it was a great honour when ELO were elected into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; another big surprise for me was receiving the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song Collection.

“Whenever I’m walking around a big supermarket at Christmas and I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday is playing, people stop to chat and ask for an autograph. They still remember me!”

EastEnders Christmas spoilers: Max Branning exit – Jake Wood reveals all after THAT twist https://briefnews.eu/eastenders-christmas-spoilers-max-branning-exit-jake-wood-reveals-all-after-that-twist/ https://briefnews.eu/eastenders-christmas-spoilers-max-branning-exit-jake-wood-reveals-all-after-that-twist/#respond Tue, 26 Dec 2017 02:26:05 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/eastenders-christmas-spoilers-max-branning-exit-jake-wood-reveals-all-after-that-twist/

Max Branning (played by Jake Wood) was served his comeuppance in monumental scenes that will down in the EastEnders history books as his closest full of skeletons burst open with cataclysmic results.

With the whole of Albert Square reeling over the bombshell that Max killed Steven Beale (Aaron Sidwell) and Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) and Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) fighting for their lives, where can Walford’s public enemy number one really go from here?

As rumours continue to swirl suggesting Max will be following Abi and Lauren out of the BBC soap, Jake Wood has teased at a surprising turnaround.

“I think there’s always lots of options for him,” Jake exclusively told press including Express.co.uk. “When we played this story I never thought there was a point when Max was irredeemable or that he did anything that was not.”

He continued: “Max is a very complicated character. A lot of the things he does, he does them in the wrong way, but if you look back at why he’s doing them they’re very rooted in a deep way. He’s been very hurt.

“You can’t explain it away but in my mind it’s understandable why he’s doing those things.”

Though, Jake didn’t rule out the possibility of Max’s exit, adding: “In my mind it hasn’t gone to the point of no return, but that decision is ultimately out of my hands.

“That might be down to the audience if they forgive him or not, and [John Yorke], if they want to move forward.”

The drama comes as John Yorke confirmed a death is on the cards at Christmas as several huge cast members have been confirmed to be leaving.

EastEnders continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on BBC One.

Christmas legend Victoria wood will have her own special this year https://briefnews.eu/christmas-legend-victoria-wood-will-have-her-own-special-this-year/ https://briefnews.eu/christmas-legend-victoria-wood-will-have-her-own-special-this-year/#respond Sat, 23 Dec 2017 01:57:50 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/christmas-legend-victoria-wood-will-have-her-own-special-this-year/

Shows such as Victoria Wood: With All The Trimmings (2000) and Mid Life Christmas (2009) were celebratory extravaganzas in which she performed funny songs she’d written herself, parodied rubbish festive TV and starred in celebrity-studded spoofs of famous films.

Victoria died last year, aged just 62, and in honour of her contribution to Christmas entertainment, this week her celebrity friends and fans line up to pay tribute to her best Christmas shows and sketches, poems and songs, in an extended one-off special of the series Our Friend Victoria.

Julie Walters, Richard E. Grant, Michael Ball and other famous faces sing her praises and there’s a wealth of clips and reminders of Victoria’s unique ability to skewer the small-minded English character.

The show is full of firsts, including clips of Victoria’s first known televised piano duet and her first screen kiss, says executive producer Lindsay Jex.

“And we also unearthed a really lovely Christmas poem that Victoria tells on The Russell Harty Show in 1983 that hasn’t been shown since it was first broadcast, so that’s a real treat.”

The special is hosted by Victoria’s good friend Anne Reid, of Last Tango In Halifax fame. It turns out there’s an interesting story behind their friendship: it was Anne’s late husband, the TV producer Peter Eckersley, who launched Victoria’s TV career after spotting her on stage.

He asked Victoria to adapt her stage show, Talent, for TV in 1979, and it was a huge success.

“Anne recalls Peter coming home to her one day and remembering seeing this girl performing on stage in Sheffield and thought she’d be perfect for TV,” explains Lindsay. “It was Victoria’s big break.”

Victoria repaid the favour by casting Anne in her TV work, including Dinnerladies (1998-2000) and With All The Trimmings.

That holiday special featured a milestone – the two performed a sketch on piano together, which is Victoria’s only known piano duet. It was a spoof of the old Billy Cotton Band Show.

Anne recalls how it came about. “Victoria called me one day and asked me if I fancied doing a duet with her on the piano,” says Anne, 82.

“I was very excited and a bit scared, because she was a brilliant pianist. So I went over to her house to practise, and I said, ‘Don’t you shout at me if I go wrong, because I can play the piano and I can talk, but I can’t do them at the same time.’ She said, ‘It’ll be fine.’” And it was.

Victoria’s shows, and particularly her Christmas specials, were studded with very famous faces who sent themselves up.

Roger Moore participated in a Bond spoof, and other sketches featured Delia Smith, Hugh Laurie, Robert Lindsay, Bob Monkhouse, Caroline Aherne, Richard E. Grant and Alan Rickman.

“Who wouldn’t want to be in a sketch by Victoria Wood?” asks Anne.

“I think she thought it would be fun to work with people she admired.”

Our Friend Victoria is a Christmas feast of clips of Victoria and warm reminiscences from her friends, reminding us of Victoria Wood’s unique comedy and exceptional talent.

“It’s great to have Victoria Wood back on the telly at Christmastime in the spirit of those Morecambe and Wise specials of the ’70s and ’80s,” muses Lindsay Jex. “A lot of people will find it quite emotional, because Victoria was a huge part of so many people’s lives.”

EastEnders spoilers: Jake Wood reveals Max will self harm as he struggles with guilt https://briefnews.eu/eastenders-spoilers-jake-wood-reveals-max-will-self-harm-as-he-struggles-with-guilt/ https://briefnews.eu/eastenders-spoilers-jake-wood-reveals-max-will-self-harm-as-he-struggles-with-guilt/#respond Fri, 22 Dec 2017 13:53:18 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/eastenders-spoilers-jake-wood-reveals-max-will-self-harm-as-he-struggles-with-guilt/

EastEnders is famous for its dramatic storylines, but as the businessman continues his destruction of Albert Square, a remorseful Max deals with his actions by harming himself.

Speaking about Max’s self-harm to The Sun Online, Jake, 45, said: “I’ve always seen that as if there’s any guilt about what he’s doing, any remorse or if he feels bad about his actions, that’s his way of dealing with it.

“Max is always a multi-layered, interesting character to play. That’s why people like to watch him because he’s unpredictable.

“But at the real heart of it there’s just a guy who’s incredibly lost and very isolated. He’s dealing with it in the only way he sees that he can. Obviously it’s not right but it might be great fun to watch.”

Max, who moved to Walford over 11 years ago, is at the heart of this year’s Christmas special – which is rumoured to be one of its most explosive episodes.

The salesman was wrongly convicted of murdering Lucy Beale back in October 2015, and returned to the Square on Christmas Eve last year.

Determined to destroy the lives of anyone who saw him wrongfully imprisoned, Max has already sought revenge on his brother Jack and the Beale family.

And after being shunned by all the residents on Albert Square, a humiliated Max begins to harm himself.

Last night, the unhinged character threatened to murder Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), before attempting to strangle a terrified Ian with fairy lights.

But the scheming East Ender has even more destruction in store for Walford locals, with the character reigniting a passionate affair with Stacey Fowler.

The EastEnders Christmas Day special airs on December 25 BBC One at 9pm.

A 23-year-old man in Chicago developed a rare, festering fungal lesion on his lower lip after he reportedly “snipped a pimple” with a woodworking blade.

Doctors at the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County treated the man, who was an otherwise healthy construction worker. In a case report, recently published in The Journal of Emergency Medicine, the doctors described the lesion as a blood-crusted, warty plaque with a hardened boarder. It spanned the width of his mouth and had erupted just below his lips. You can see it here, but warning: it’s really gross.

The man reported that it had developed over the course of seven months, after he took the woodworking tools to what he called a pimple (although it’s possible it was any type of skin lesion, including a canker or cold sore).
