<p>The 74-year-old was walking the red carpet at The Olivier Awards when she made the bid for TV producers to give older talent a chance to present and feature on shows past retirement.</p>
<p>In 2009, Alesha Dixon, then 28, controversially replaced Arlene, then 66, as a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.express.co.uk/latest/Strictly-Come-Dancing" target="_blank" rel="tag">Strictly Come Dancing</a> judge, sparking claims of ageism against the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.express.co.uk/latest/BBC" target="_blank" rel="tag">BBC</a>.</p>
<p>Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Arlene said: “I guess it just needs to keep rolling along as it is because they’re not short of viewers.”</p>
<p>She then added: “I want me on your TV screens more! I’m very, very passionate about&nbsp;there&nbsp;really should be older women on television.”</p>
<p>Revealing her reasons why, Arlene said: “I think it’s for the good of kids.</p>

<p>“Otherwise they just get used to thinking that you have to be 14 to be on TV.”</p>
<p>The dancer was clad in a vintage black jumpsuit, accompanied by a pink Aspinal of London bag.</p>
<p>However, with the guests walking the red carpet in the rain, Arlene was trying hard to keep dry.</p>
<p>She smiled: “I’m very good, I’m very wet! I’ve got these thin shoes on and my feet are soaking. I’m glad I’ve got an umbrella though, I’m delighted!”</p>
<p>The Olivier Awards celebrate the world-class status of London theatre, and are Britain’s most prestigious stage honours.</p>

<p>Having worked as a theatre director for many years, Arlene revealed that it’s “a thrill” just to be there.</p>
<p>Arlene continued: “I love The Olivier Awards. Even when you’ve got nothing to do with them.</p>
<p>“Just sitting in your seat and watching all those performances one after the other from every show… it’s a thrill.”</p>
<p>The choreographer was not part of this year’s show, with the cast of Hamilton putting on a performance for the show opening.</p>
<p>Arlene said: “I haven’t choreographed anything for tonight. I mean, I wasn’t asked. But I’m not in London very much working on Starlight Express in Germany. So I’ve only just got off a plane!</p>

<p>“I’m hoping they bring Starlight Express back to the UK. At the moment, it’s an exciting show, it’s very different.”</p>
<p>Arlene added that the show now has a modern feel, with both genders playing the title roles.</p>
<p>She added: “It’s really kind of updated. New songs, new characters. Mixed gender, because it was 1984 and males were engines, females were carriages. So lots of changes but lots of excitement.</p>
<p>“Let’s hope it’s a success when it opens there in June &#8211; and we come to the UK. After Starlight, I’m directing A Little Princess, Andrew Lippa’s new musical. A one-off concert at the Royal Festival Hall on April 28th.</p>
<p>“Then I’m going to work at The Bridge with Nick Hytner on the Alan Bennett play… with a bit of music and dance, Allelujah!”</p>

<p>        Communist and feminist groups are pressuring the Council of Paris to close a controversial, clandestine sex doll brothel in the heart of the city. So far, however, there have been no complaints and no actual crimes committed.</p>

<p><em>&#8220;Xdolls is not a sex shop. It&#8217;s a place that generates money where you rape a woman,&#8221;</em> said Lorraine Questiaux, lawyer and spokesperson for the Paris feminist association <a target="_blank" href="http://www.mouvementdunid.org/-Dons-et-legs-" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mouvement du Nid</a>. The Council of Paris is to debate whether to close the &#8216;brothel&#8217; on Tuesday and Wednesday. Xdolls opened for business on February 1 in a 70 sq meter apartment in the city’s 14th arrondissement.</p>
<p>Individual patrons are charged €89 ($  109; £78) per hour, or €120 ($  148) for couples, to enjoy the company of one of three 1 meter 45cm (4ft 7in) silicone dolls (Lily, Sofia, and Kim), each worth several thousand euro. Owner Joaquim Lousquy is reportedly considering opening a second such ‘brothel’ in Bordeaux.</p>
<p>Owning or operating a brothel is illegal in France and prostitution was outlawed in 2016. However, given that the silicone dolls are inanimate objects, the Xdolls establishment occupies a certain gray area. Police are continuing to monitor the area for any potential disturbances of the peace.</p>
<p><em>&#8220;We are not in a case of prostitution. They are not real women,”</em> an unnamed police officer told <a target="_blank" href="http://www.leparisien.fr/paris-75/la-maison-close-xdolls-dans-le-collimateur-de-la-police-19-03-2018-7617627.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Le Parisien</a>. <em>“This is not a criminal but moral problem.&#8221;</em></p>
<p><em>“We can not talk about rape either. This trade certainly raises questions. It&#8217;s unhealthy. But criminally, we can not accuse a man of rape on a doll. It&#8217;s almost as if a woman complained against a dildo!&#8221;</em> said another anonymous police source.</p>
<p><em>&#8220;The policeman was very nice,&#8221;</em> confirms Joaquim Lousquy, the manager and founder of the establishment, which is registered as a <em>&#8220;gaming venue&#8221;</em> similar to a pool hall.</p>
<p><em>&#8220;There is no criminal offense,”</em> Questiaux confirmed. However, she added that the <em>&#8220;Police have an obligation to keep the peace, and uphold the principle of human dignity.”</em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;As such, this activity is not comparable to procuring, whose definition is specified in Article L.225-5 of the Penal Code. The penal code refers to human beings and not to objects,”</em> police said.</p>
<p>Nicolas Bonnet, President of the Left Front Group of the Paris Council, believes the establishment should be considered a traditional brothel and, therefore, should be closed. The French Communist Party alleges that the dolls&#8217; small stature is reminiscent of children and thus would promote sexual deviancy, reports <a target="_blank" href="https://www.24matins.fr/paris-la-maison-close-aux-poupees-deja-menacee-de-fermeture-738447" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">24 Matins</a>.</p>
<p>Similar sex doll ‘brothels’ have been set up in Gateshead in the UK and Barcelona in Spain.</p>
