The 50-year-old star played ‘s Wolverine across nine X-Men movies and yesterday paid tribute to the creator of his character.

Stan Lee sadly passed away yesterday aged 95-years-old, and Jackman has spoken warmly of him on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

The actor reminisced of a time he was at Comic Con and was glad to be humbled by the late legend.

Jackman said: “Let me just say to the family and to the legion of fans, I remember Stan as a true gentleman who had a glint in his eye.”

He continued: “He’s a creative genius, he thought outside the box, he created a whole universe that changed the lives of many people – mine included.

“But when I met him…first of all if you ever want to get a real understanding of where you are in the world, and you think, ‘Ah I’m Wolverine, I’m walking into Comic Con, this is my spot right? This is a good day for me.’

“And I was on a red carpet, and I was the only one on there. And no one was taking my photo because at the other end was Stan Lee.

“There were about three hundred photographers and interviews all on Stan. Stan, God bless you, you’re one of the greats.”

Jackman also tweeted a picture of himself with Lee on Twitter.

The caption read: “We’ve lost a creative genius.

“Stan Lee was a pioneering force in the superhero universe.

“I’m proud to have been a small part of his legacy and …. to have helped bring one of his characters to life. #StanLee #Wolverine.”

Last year Jackman bowed out as Wolverine in Logan after almost 20 years in the role.

However since then Deadpool star Reynolds has been lobbying the Aussie actor for a big return.

And now the biggest hint ever that Wolverine will be returning for the X-Force movie occurred at San Diego Comic Con.

During a panel promoting Deadpool 2: The Super Duper Cut, an extended version of the end credits scene was screened.

Fans will remember Deadpool travel back in time to X-Men Origins: Wolverine to assassination the other version of his character from the not so fondly remember superhero movie.

And all the while Jackman’s Wolverine was looking on – from old footage – but this time another line was added.

According to the extended clip saw Deadpool say “I love you” to Wolverine.

And then added: “One day your old pal Wade’s gonna ask you to get back in the saddle again. When he does, say yes.”

If that’s not a teaser that Wolverine will be turning up in the X-Force movie, as he does in the comics, then we don’t know what is.

To add to this Reynolds once again reiterated that he wanted Wolverine to return to team up with Deadpool.

At the panel he told fans: “You never know.”

Speaking with TMZ, Jackman said: “Ship has sailed Ryan. Sorry brother.”

The Wolverine star was also asked on GMA and said: “Ryan…back it up a little.

“Play a little hard to get. It’s too much. It’s not sexy.”

Of course the other option is that another actor will play Wolverine in the X-Force movie, that is unless Jackman is playing it coy.

Ryan Reynolds has made no secret of his determination to get Wolverine into the Deadpool franchise.

Fans who have seen Deadpool 2 will know that he manages a sneaky cameo in a cheeky end credit scene.

But was Wolverine already there thorughout the movie in plain sight?

This Cable explanation will blow your mind, especially since it is based in the original Marvel comics. It draws directy on the Ultimate X-Men comicbook series, which has been used a primary source for the entire cinematic X-Men and Wolverine storylines so far. 

This alternate timeline for Wolverine and Cable will already be familiar to dedicated Marvel fans, but requires a little concentration for the rest of us.

The mainstream Cable character in the comics is far more powerful than the one depicted on screen. He is far taller, has superhuman abilities drawn from the powers of his parents, Cyclops and a clone of Jean Grey.

Josh Brolin’s Cable has far more in common with the incarnation of Wolverine that has been depicted by Hugh Jackman on screen.

In the Ultimate X-Men storyline from issue 78 Cable actually is Wolverine.

Tying in with the burgeoning Marvel cinematic introduction of alternate timelines and dimensions, this Cable comes from the future on alternate Earth 2107 to kidnap Professor X to help with the fight against Apocalypse.

Born James Howlett, he loses his healing ability and relies on military implants and cybernetics. He also has Cable’s handy time travel device. This Cable/Wolverine fades from existence when his battle is done.

This version’s human height and rather more ‘regular’ mutant strength, plus the lack of regenerative powers correspond’s tantalisingly closely to the Cable seen in Deadpool 2.

The gruff and grumpy grouching suddenly seems rather familiar, too…

The movie has also shown its willingness to delve into time travel.

Fans have also spotted clues to Mister Sinister, who engineered the birth of Cable in some Marvel variations.

If Cable allies with the X-Force in future movies, will he also reveal this shock secret identity?

The notoriously rude posters for the first movie warned fans that Deadpool was ‘packing’.

Well, the next movie is bursting at the seamy red leather seams with action, laughs, shocks and an incredible array of cameos.

Last time around Deadpool told the audience that the budget was too small to afford proper X-Men.

This time, there is no such problem. The film is peppered with major Marvel characters popping up, as well as one huge Hollywood star.

Deapool may pop out of coffins i teh movie, but some of his cameos still try and keep out of sight. From the socially inept superhero, anyway.

One classic scene shows Deadpool complaining again at the lack of X-Men in the mansion, not realising some of the biggest superhero members are watching him from the next room. This time the joke is on him, since the y close the door before he sees them, leaving the audience knowing just how ridiculous he is.

Reynolds himself has enormous fun with the end credits scenes, trolling fans who are desperate for that Wolverine crossover as well as ridiculing his own earlier superhero efforts.

Time travelling scenes show Deadpool somehow crossover into the previous Fox franchise where Wolverine fought Weapon XI (another incarnato of Wade Wilson).

Another brutally funny scene shows Reynolds himself excitedly reading an early script for Green Lantern before Deadpool appears and shoots him in the head. It’s horrific but at least somewhere in an alternate timeline, that movie will never get made.

The two actors may have crossed over in the critically-panned X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but that was back when the Merc with a Mouth, didn’t have, well, a mouth.

But having introduced the world to Deadpool in 2016, to great reviews and an incredible box office performance, Reynolds now wants to do a Wolverine crossover with Jackman justice.

But the only problem is the Aussie star bowed out as Wolverine in Logan last year, retiring from the role.

Nevertheless Reynolds is adamant in wanting to convince Jackman to return.

Reynolds, who stars in Deadpool 2 later this month, told : “He’s alive and well in my timeline.

“There is a Logan running around out there with a little bushy chest and his little sharpy, sharpy claws, and he is alive and well and ready to go. I would love that.

“I think convincing Hugh of that would be a near-impossible feat, but there’s no human being I love more than Hugh Jackman in that universe, and equally so as a friend. He’s just the best.

“I already miss him as Logan, so I’m one of those guys that whenever I see him, I’m like, ‘Come on, man. Just one more. Come on. We’ll do it together. It’ll be fun. Come on! On three. Here we go, together. One, two, three, together,’ and it’s always just me saying it.”’

He said: “I’m hesitating, because I could totally see how that’s the perfect fit. But the timing may be wrong.”

Since then the Aussie star has admitted he’s ready to see another actor take on the role.

And with Disney having acquired the rights to the X-Men from Fox, it’s possible we could see a new Wolverine in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and future Deadpool outing.

Also, with Josh Brolin’s Cable already providing a gruff contrast to Deadpool’s silly antics, is a Wolverine crossover really necessary?

Deadpool 2 is released in UK cinemas on May 15, 2018.

The town of Burns, Alaska has been rocked by a series of gruesome murders. The bodies have been sliced and dismembered, and a pair of police detectives are at a loss on how to find the killer. But earlier, residents had spotted a short, hairy man near the docks.

Marvel has entered the podcast game with their first scripted podcast, Wolverine: The Long Night, a “true crime” podcast in the vein of Serial and S-Town with a dash of the experimental thriller Homecoming. And you can listen to the first episode now.

“Have you heard of a man named Logan?”

The first episode of the moody, atmospheric crime thriller Wolverine: The Long Night debuted on Stitcher this week, kicking off the 10-episode scripted series. Written by Ben Percy (The Wilding, Red Moon) and directed by Brendan Baker, Wolverine: The Long Night follows special agents Sally Pierce and Tad Marshall as they investigate a bloody massacre in rural Alaska.

The slice marks seem to indicate adamantium claws, which point to Logan, the mysterious longer who has just arrived on the shores of Burns, Alaska. The story picks up as Logan is on the run from Weapon X and struggling to regain his memories. But the case may be more complicated than that, as more people are brutally murdered, a sinister cult rises to prominence, and the local sheriff seems oddly determined to get the agents out of his town.

As for Wolverine, he doesn’t even appear for more than a few seconds in the first episode. But, as played by the gravelly-voiced Richard Armitage, he strikes an imposing figure.

“We wanted to mystify him again,” Long Night writer Percy told Wired. “He has a tremendous offstage mythology.”

“There’s suspense and tense atmosphere built into an audio drama, because you’re unable to see all around you,” Percy continued, explaining how he wanted to slowly introduce Wolverine by keeping him in the shadows. “By eliminating vision, we can take advantage of the disorientation.”

Wolverine: The Long Night is the first in a series of podcasts that Marvel is launching with Stitcher.

We first heard about Marvel’s Wolverine-starring 10-episode podcast series at the tail end of 2017, and it sure sounded sweet: Ten episodes following agents tracking the legendary mutant as he hunts down a serial killer in a fictional Alaskan town. Now we have a release date. Wolverine: The Long Night‘s first episode airs on March 12th exclusively on Stitcher Premium, with a new one dropping every week.

As the preview above indicates, Marvel’s channeling some old-fashioned noir for its first scripted podcast. It has serious talent behind and in front of the microphone: Wolverine himself will be voiced by Richard Armitage (Castlevania, The Hobbit films), Broadway veteran Celia Keenan-Bolger, Scott Adsit (30 Rock) and Ato Essandoh. The series is written by comics vet Ben Percy, directed by Brendan Baker (Love and Radio podcast) with sound designer Chloe Prasinos (Reply All podcast).

If you’re not keen on ponying up $ 5 per month (or $ 35 per year) to subscribe to Stitcher Premium, Wolverine: The Long Night will make its way to other platforms in fall 2018.
