Department of Justice

  • The FBI recovered dozens of empty folders in the Mar-a-Lago probe, according to a court filing.
  • Nearly 100 folders marked "classified" or "return to staff secretary" turned up empty in the raid.
  • The contents of each folder might be "nowhere to be found because they are already with someone else," a legal expert said.

A detailed inventory of the items from the Mar-a-Lago probe showed that the FBI recovered dozens of empty folders marked "classified."

Other folders contained instructions on the outside saying that the contents should be returned "to staff secretary/military aide."

Investigators have so far recovered nearly 100 empty folders, according to the inventory unsealed and released by the Justice Department. 

It's unclear where the contents of each empty folder are. But a legal expert who runs a law firm that specializes in national security detailed to The Hill two possible scenarios:

"The least optimistic scenario is that they are nowhere to be found because they are already with someone else," Kel McClanahan, executive director of National Security Counselors, warned. 

"The ideal scenario that would describe this is that the empty folders are actually for the records that are somewhere else in the boxes — that someone just didn't keep them in the folder in the way they were supposed to, so they're not actually out there in the wild somewhere," McClanahan said. 

Last month, the FBI probed into the former president's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida and recovered several boxes containing classified records that Trump took with him from the White House once he left office, according to the court records made public. Some of the boxes were distinctly marked as "top secret," Insider's Sonam Sheth reported. 

Under the Presidential Records Act, he should have turned the records over to the agency upon leaving office.

The Justice Department is now investigating whether Trump violated any laws pertaining to the handling of government documents. A legal analyst has previously said he could receive a 10-year prison sentence if he's convicted of violating the Espionage Act, a law that dates back to World War I that essentially bars anyone from sharing or disseminating information that could potentially harm or disadvantage the US.

Trump has so far denied all assertions of wrongdoing, saying that he had "declassified" the documents. He also said that "everyone ends up having to bring home their work from time to time."

Following the broadcast of Meghan Markle, 39, and her husband Prince Harry’s, 36, interview with Oprah Winfrey, 67, on CBS on Sunday night, Piers Morgan, 55, said he did not believe the Duchess of Sussex’s comments that she had suicidal thoughts. Following a backlash on social media over his comments on Good Morning Britain , ITV bosses are said to be “discussing” it with the controversial host.

On Monday morning, Piers told viewers: “Who did you go to? What did they say to you? I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said, Meghan Markle.

“I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report.

“The fact that she’s fired up this onslaught against our Royal family I think is contemptible.”

Many viewers took to Twitter to hit out at Piers’ comments including mental health charity Mind.

Now, ITV Chief Executive Carolyn McCall said they are “dealing with” Piers and discussing the comments he made.

Speaking on a media call, Carolyn admitted she has not spoken to the host herself but managing director of media and entertainment Kevin Lygo “is discussing it with Piers”.

She insisted Good Morning Britain is a “balanced show” adding: “ITV has many voices and we try and represent many voices every day. It’s not about one opinion.”

On the comments about Meghan, Carolyn said: “I completely believe what she (Meghan) said. It’s important everyone does.”

Piers was not impressed with Alex’s remark as he stepped away from the news desk and walked off.

“I’m done with this. See you later,” he exclaimed. “Sorry, I can’t do this.”

Viewers commented on the moment on Twitter with one replying: “Who would have thought it would be a weatherman that gets @piersmorgan to walk off set @alexberesfordTV #GMB #goodmorningbritain.”

Another added: “Alex Beresford has managed to silence Piers Morgan and make him walk offset. @alexberesfordTV you’ve made my day. #GMB #piersmorgan.”

Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke are wigging out in the latest teaser trailer for their decades-spanning new Netflix drama Firefly Lane.

Based on the novel of the same name by bestselling author Kristin Hannah (who serves as co-executive producer on the 10-episode series), Firefly Lane — which will premiere Feb. 3 — proposes that “the greatest love story of all can be between friends.”

“When unlikely duo Tully (played by former Grey’s Anatomy doc Heigl) and Kate (onetime Scrubs doc Chalke) meet at age 14, they couldn’t be more different,” reads the synopsis. “Tully is the brash and bold girl you can’t ignore, while Kate is the mousy shy girl you never notice. As you can see in the above teaser, Ali Skovbye (When Calls the Heart) and Roan Curtis (The Magicians) will portray the young versions of Tully and Kate, while Heigl and Chalke will embody the characters in the latter decades (with a little help from the hair department).

The cast also includes Ben Lawson (Designated Survivor), Yael Yurman (The Man in the High Castle) and Beau Garrett (Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce).

Maggie Friedman (Witches of East End, Eastwick) serves as showrunner and will executive-produce along with Heigl, Peter O’Fallon, Shawn Williamson and Lee Rose.

Ardal O’Hanlon has played DI Jack Mooney on the BBC show for the last three years, solving the most bizarre murders on the quietest island, but last week saw him exit for good, leaving space for his replacement DI Neville Parker (played by Ralf Little). However, in the wake of DI Jack Mooney, show bosses have now revealed some on-set secrets, letting slip who was the most difficult actor to work with.

The saying goes, never work with animals or children, and the cast of Death in Paradise certainly felt this. 

Harry the Lizard has been a staple of the show since its inception in 2011, with his first appearance startling DI Richard Poole (Ben Miller). 

Last week, Ardal’s character Jack said goodbye not just to his friends but to the island companion too, but it’s now been revealed all might not be as it seems with the tiny green creature. 

Show boss, Tim Key, has shattered the assumption he is in fact a real lizard.

Next week will see Ardal’s replacement, Ralf Little, immediately thrown into the deep end. 

Ardal explained: “I told Ralf all the cool restaurants to go to, but the only real advice I could give him, other than preparation, is stay cool, literally and metaphorically, when things go wrong. Because they will go wrong.”

“Also nothing can prepare you for the noise, the sheer cacophony on the island.

“The sun goes down at six o’clock and then the frogs and the crickets kick in. 

“They don’t stop for 12 hours, it gets louder and louder. Then the wild dogs start barking and start chasing the wild hens. It is chaos out there, madness.”

Ardal’s replacement, Ralf admitted his mum thought taking the role of DI Neville Parker could be a disaster.

He told the Radio Times: “Mum went, ‘But what if no one likes you and they stop watching it?’

“I was like, ‘Thanks, Mum!’ So I hope I don’t affect Death in Paradise like George Clooney did Batman, so only Christian Bale can come in and revive it.

“We’re not supposed to reveal any details of how Ardal leaves and I join Death in Paradise, but it’s so exciting.”

Death in Paradise continues on BBC this Thursday at 9pm.

Alleged details have emerged online suggesting there will be a very brief nod to the lead character of the prequel trilogy in the upcoming film. Star Wars 9 is due out at the end of the year and, throughout the filming process, a barrage of so-called leaks have emerged on the internet – all of which need to be taken with a pinch of salt pending any official info from Lucasfilm. Is this new scene legitimate?

Details come courtesy of prolific YouTuber Mike Zeroh, who has 152,000 subscribers and posts large volumes of videos claiming to be Star Wars leaks.

Zeroh’s track record is decidedly hit-and-miss when it comes to scoops that prove to be the real deal – so is this one that will come to fruition? Best to treat it as pure speculation for the time being.

He describes a scene between “R2-D2, Rey and Anakin Skywalker”, in which “Rey is meditating on a large boulder with her legs crossed and her eyes closed.

“It’s described as a dark environment with a camp fire going on in the background.”

He adds: “The next [shot] goes over Rey, surrounded by pieces of Anakin’s lightsaber floating around her – two pieces of the blue crystal.

“Rey hears voices of Anakin Skywalker – faint words and whispers from the character.

“Another [shot] goes over the front of Rey with a mysterious hooded figure behind her.

“By the time Rey turns around, the figure has vanished.

“A shadow of Anakin’s apparition, it’s described that Rey and Anakin have a strange connection.”

Most of the rumours concerning Anakin’s return have come via fan speculation online, and concrete evidence has been decidedly sparse.

But with Episode 9 set to be the concluding part of the sequel trilogy – and in fact the entire nine-part Skywalker saga – could JJ Abrams be planning on paying special homage to one of its most iconic characters?

We’ll get our answers when Star Wars 9 hits cinemas in December 2019.

In the meantime, the wait continues for a teaser trailer and the film’s official title.

“But results also need to change. I think we’ve got the manager, the players to do that.”

Giggs described Manchester United’s season so far as “inconsistent and frustrating”.

He says the form of United’s rivals means “each game you don’t win, the task of reaching the top four is getting tougher”.

Mourinho questioned his players’ heart after the goalless draw with Palace, while Giggs believes the team are suffering from a crisis of confidence.

He the club to take a “baby steps” approach to turning their form around.

“Manchester City and Liverpool, the teams up there, they are consistent,” he added. “When you’re not the gap is obviously going to be big.

“When your nearest rivals are that far ahead of you it’s hard to take. It’s still 13 games into the season, time to claw it back.

“But the only way of doing that is going on a run of seven or eight games unbeaten – small steps to build that confidence back up.”

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, will be looking forward to her daughter’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank.

The former-wife of Prince Andrew is said to still live in the Royal Lodge with her ex husband.

However, their divorce in 1996 was said to cause a rift within the Royal Family.

Now a source has claimed, via magazine Vanity Fair, that Princess Eugenie wants her mum to have a big role in her wedding.

They told the publication: “Sarah is being very hands-on, but in a great way, and Eugenie wants her mum to be a big part of it all and will make sure Sarah is included in every aspect.

“Her feeling is the other royals will have to get on with it.”

The also shared the now-divorced couples feelings about their daughters up-coming nuptials.

They said: “Sarah and Andrew are just thrilled Euge is getting married and they are all very much in the planning stages at the moment.”

Princess Eugenie and her fiance Jack Brooksbank, 32, will marry at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

This is the same venue Prince Harry, 33, and Meghan Markle, 37, chose for their wedding in May.

According to reports the Prince Phillip and Sarah Ferguson’s relationship deteriorated after Andrew and the Duchess’s split. 

The Prince of Edinburgh has never forgiven the Duchess of York for the series of scandals that she has put the family through since her 1992 affair with a Texan billionaire, some claim.

A source said: “The royal wedding will be difficult for the Duke of Edinburgh because he hates Fergie so much he can’t stand to be in the same place as her.”

However, Sarah Ferguson will be at her daughter’s wedding and its thought she and Andrew will sit together at the event in a show of solidarity.

Sarah Ferguson spoke out about her feelings towards Kate Middleton.

She told interviewers after her wedding in 2011: “What’s interesting is that I would never presume to give Catherine advice because she’s doing so well.

“She looks fabulous, she’s beautiful and fabulous and they look so in love and it’s a great story.”

Sarah was not invited to William and Kate’s wedding.

No official royal statement was released about Sarah’s lack of invite to her nephew’s wedding.

She has over 200,000 followers across the platforms, and shares many insights in to her life.

Most of the Royal Family are not on social media, but are represented by Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace, or Clarence House.

Sarah’s daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, are the exception, with both joining their mother on social media.

Verizon Wireless today said it has temporarily stopped throttling the data of firefighters and other first responders on the West Coast and in Hawaii and will soon introduce a new unlimited plan “with no caps” and with priority access for first responders.

“As of yesterday, we removed all speed cap restrictions for first responders on the West Coast and in Hawaii to support current firefighting and Hurricane Lane efforts,” Verizon’s announcement today said. “Further, in the event of another disaster, Verizon will lift restrictions on public safety customers, providing full network access.”

Next week, Verizon said it will provide full details on “a new plan that will feature unlimited data, with no caps on mobile solutions and automatically includes priority access.”

  • North Korean state media has accused the US of plotting to “unleash a war” on North Korea while continuing to negotiate “with a smile on its face.”
  • Sunday’s Rodong Sinmun newspaper, the official mouthpiece of the ruling Worker’s Party of Korea, called out what it claims were US military movements in the region as practice for a potential invasion of Pyongyang.
  • The strongly-worded piece comes just days after President Trump canceled a planned trip to North Korea by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. 
  • On Monday, South Korea said that Pompeo’s abrupt cancelation is having an “effect” on the inter-Korean liaison office that was slated to open this month.

North Korean state media has accused the US of plotting to “unleash war” on the country while continuing to negotiate “with a smile on its face.”

Sunday’s Rodong Sinmun newspaper, the official mouthpiece of the ruling Worker’s Party of Korea, called out “extremely provocative and dangerous” US military movements in the region.
