Yes, Netflix, love is blind… but it’s also pretty ridiculous sometimes, right? Well, at least on reality TV, it is.

Love Is Blind has attracted a lot of buzz for its novel concept — daters meet each other in separate rooms and talk through a wall, and then get engaged without ever seeing what the other person looks like — but it’s hardly the first out-there dating show to hit the small screen. In pursuit of romance (or, let’s be honest, camera time), TV daters have subjected themselves to plenty of outlandish obstacles, with the success of The Bachelor inspiring dozens of increasingly bizarre dating shows. Some vanished after only a handful of airings (R.I.P., Chains of Love) while others are still going strong to this day (welcome back, Temptation Island!).

In honor of Love Is Blind‘s reunion special debuting this week on Netflix, we’re taking a fond look back at some of the wildest dating shows we’ve ever seen. From Date My Mom (yikes) to The Littlest Groom (really?), we can hardly believe some of these ever made it on the air. Check out the gallery to the right — or click here for direct access — for our list of wacky dating shows, and then hit the comments below to remind us of any we might have missed.

Let’s block ads! (Why?)

  • It’s been a wild year for tech, marked by scandal, political clashes, and bizarre product launches.
  • From Mark Zuckerberg’s Congress grilling to the mass Google protests, some of the drama has been captured in candid detail on camera.

Business Insider has compiled some of the wildest pictures from an apocalyptic year in tech. Scroll on for 15 moments that defined 2018.

JANUARY: Yes, it really was this year Logan Paul posted *that* YouTube video of a Japanese forest and what appeared to be a dead body.

YouTube/Logan Paul

Paul was removed from Google’s preferred partner program — which guarantees YouTube’s biggest stars more ad revenue — and later said the mistake cost him $ 5 million.

MARCH: Pursued by reporters, Cambridge Analytica CEO Alexander Nix is bundled into the firm’s London offices.

Just days before this photo was taken, The Observer reported that Nix’s company had harvested the data of 50 million Facebook users and weaponized the information for political campaigns, including Donald Trump’s run for president. He was unflatteringly compared to a James Bond villain.

We can always count on the Met Gala to deliver some of the most jaw-dropping outfits of the year, and this year’s event was no exception. This year’s theme was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” which left plenty of room for interesting interpretation.

While some attendees opted for simple, elegant gowns that didn’t necessarily fit the theme, others let their imagination run wild with over-the-top designs that left a major impression. Stars like Rihanna and Jared Leto took a very literal approach to the religious theme, while others like Ariana Grande and Olivia Munn made more subtle references in their outfits.

Here are 25 of the wildest looks from the Met Gala 2018.

Everyone was waiting to see what Rihanna would wear, and she didn’t disappoint with this Margiela ensemble that seemed to be inspired by the Pope.

She wore a high-low skirt, plenty of jewelry, and an attention-commanding headpiece that cemented her status as the undisputed queen of Met Gala fashion.

Katy Perry arrived looking like an actual angel with some oversized wings by Versace.

She paired the wings with a gold minidress and thigh-high gold boots.

Solange’s gown by Iris van Herpen featured one of the most elaborate structural designs of the night.

The Oscars are fashion’s biggest night in Hollywood. As always there was a solid mix of outfits at the 2018 show, which was held on Sunday, March 4. While some people played it safe, others took calculated risks and landed on our best-dressed list for wearing outfits that are sure to be timeless.

However, others — like St. Vincent, who wore a leotard, and Nicole Kidman who wore an unexpected bow on her dress — chose less conventional ensembles. Below, we rounded up 12 of the wildest, wackiest, and most baffling looks from the 2018 Oscars red carpet.

St. Vincent wore a leotard and what appeared to be half a jacket to the Oscars.

The pop singer completed her outfit with a touch of red lipstick.

Actress and singer Hayley Benett wore a dress that seemed to be covered in grass.

Her partially grass-covered dress had an illusion neckline.

Objectively, Meryl Streep’s outfit was fashionable, but people online were comparing her ensemble to the fairy godmother from “Shrek.”

  • Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles is squaring off against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII on Sunday.
  • Foles has had an up-and-down career — after getting benched in 2015, he contemplated retirement from the NFL.
  • His journey from benchwarmer to Super Bowl starter is one of the wildest in recent memory.

Sunday’s Super Bowl LII matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots will pit arguably the most accomplished quarterback of all time — Tom Brady — against the Eagles’ unheralded quarterback Nick Foles.

While most of the talk leading up to the game centers on Brady’s quest for a record sixth Super Bowl ring, Foles has a compelling narrative of his own. The 29-year-old journeyman looked to be the Eagles’ franchise quarterback five years ago, before an injury, a trade, and a disappointing season had him contemplating retirement from the NFL.

Back with the Eagles, Foles was thrust into the spotlight after star quarterback Carson Wentz was sidelined with a torn ACL, forcing Foles back into the starting role with the hopes of an entire franchise on his shoulders.

Read on for Foles’ wild journey from benchwarmer to Super Bowl starter.

Nick Foles was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012 after a successful college career at Arizona. Foles initially backed up Eagles starter Michael Vick.

Foles started six games for the Eagles after Vick went down with a concussion. With Foles at the helm, Philadelphia went 1-5, and he was relegated to backup duty again the next season.

But when Vick went down again in 2013, Foles had his breakout year. He threw 27 touchdown passes, led the Eagles to the playoffs, and was named to the Pro Bowl.

  • Marcus Mariota threw a touchdown to himself in the Tennessee Titans Wild Card game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
  • The play caused a bit of confusion on the field, but was eventually upheld and will surely go down as one of the wildest plays of the NFL postseason.
  • Mariota’s miracle play made for a confusing box score update, which listed the Titans quarterback for both a passing and receiving touchdown on the same play.

Marcus Mariota threw himself a touchdown pass, making what will surely be the wildest play of this Wild Card weekend.

The play came in the third quarter of Saturday’s game between the Tennessee Titans and Kansas City Chiefs. With the Titans down 21-3 and needing a score facing third-and-goal, Marcus Mariota dropped backed and looked for an open receiver in the end zone.

After scrambling in and out of the pocket, Mariota eventually made a throw that was deflected into the air by Darrelle Revis, but Mariota was quick to find the loose ball, catch it, and dive into the end zone to score the Titans first touchdown of the game.

It’s one of the craziest plays that you will ever see, and you can watch it below.

After the score the play was automatically reviewed, and some were concerned that Mariota had crossed the line of scrimmage before releasing the ball, therefore nullifying the stunning play. But the play was upheld on review and the Titans cut the Chiefs’ lead to 21-10.

The play makes for what would surely read as a confusing box score in the days before video could instantly be viewed on a smart phone, as Mariota is currently credited with a passing touchdown and receiving touchdown for the same play.

Purple Mike Wazowski? ‘Toys in the Hood?’ See Some of Pixar’s Wildest Scrapped Ideas https://briefnews.eu/purple-mike-wazowski-toys-in-the-hood-see-some-of-pixars-wildest-scrapped-ideas/ https://briefnews.eu/purple-mike-wazowski-toys-in-the-hood-see-some-of-pixars-wildest-scrapped-ideas/#respond Tue, 02 Jan 2018 11:37:47 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/purple-mike-wazowski-toys-in-the-hood-see-some-of-pixars-wildest-scrapped-ideas/ pixar scrapped ideas

Every movie has its early drafts, some of which never see the light of day. But the rise of concept art books and juicy “How Did This Get Made”-style oral histories have left nary a stone unturned in the vast movie development landscape.

Pixar boasts some of the most critically acclaimed and universally beloved animated films of the past 20 years, largely in part thanks to the animation studio’s meticulous attention to detail and story. Pixar films can take up to six years to get made, with films going through several drafts and concepts before they finally hit the big screen. Early versions of films like Toy Story or Finding Nemo may be virtually unrecognizable to us. But Pixar has opened its tight vault of undiscovered ideas to fans, and revealing some of its weirdest and most intriguing scrapped ideas for its films.

Pixar has released a video of some of its best scrapped ideas. Some of them we know (Inside Out‘s original slate of 20-plus emotions) and some of them we didn’t (Toy Story could have been called Toys in the Hood!) but either way, Pixar has just gifted us with a whole new collection of early concept art that we never knew we needed.

Pixar Scrapped Ideas

Here are some of the most fascinating scrapped concepts listed in the videos:

Inside Out: At one point, Riley had 27 different emotions with individual names. Sadness was named Misty, Anger was Ira, Fear was Freddie.

Toy Story 3: The opening originally had Woody riding into a dusty Old West town before Buzz showed up and the scene turned into a Hannah Montana-style concert. This was revealed to be Molly playing with Andy’s toys.

Up: Up was originally about two brothers who lived in a mythical floating city.

WALL-E: An early version featured “gelatinous blobs” that spoke gibberish. The idea was scrapped and the blobs became humans that lived on the Axiom that WALL-E discovers in space.

Ratatouille: Remy originally had a mother named Desiree, but she was scrapped after the focus turned to the father-son relationship.

Cars: The inspiration came from a Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer-style short story called “Yellow Car” about a little electric car who was disliked by everyone else in its small town because it was different. The only thing that stayed was the small-town setting and characters Fillmore and Sarge.

The Incredibles: Character designer Teddy Newton originally drew Edna Mode to be much taller, but Brad Bird loved a funny doodle he did where she was 3 feet tall so much that it became the final version.

Monsters Inc: Mike Wazowski design changes included springy hair, fire on his head, a purple design, a creepy elongated version and, most terrifying of all, a goatee.

A Bug’s Life: Heimlich was originally going to be voiced by a professional actor but temp voice Pixar animator Joe Ranft was so good that he was kept for the part.

Toy Story: Original title ideas included Hand-Me-Down Hero, The Cowboy and the Spaceman, Spurs & Rockets, Plastic Buddies, Don’t Move, and Toys in the Hood.

Astros homer past Dodgers to win one of the wildest World Series games ever https://briefnews.eu/astros-homer-past-dodgers-to-win-one-of-the-wildest-world-series-games-ever/ https://briefnews.eu/astros-homer-past-dodgers-to-win-one-of-the-wildest-world-series-games-ever/#respond Thu, 26 Oct 2017 05:46:47 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/astros-homer-past-dodgers-to-win-one-of-the-wildest-world-series-games-ever/ George Springer screamed with excitement as he circled the bases after hitting a two-run homer off Brandon McCarthy in the 11th inning.

Would it be enough? Was this the final plot twist in one of the wildest World Series games ever?

Yes, it was — barely — and the Houston Astros won a World Series game for the first time in their 56-season history.

Charlie Culberson hit a two-out homer in the bottom half off winner Chris Devenski, who then struck out Yasiel Puig in a tense nine-pitch at-bat. The Astros outlasted the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-6 in a Hollywood thriller Wednesday night to tie the Series at one game apiece.

“This is an instant classic and to be part of it is pretty special,” Astros starter Justin Verlander said.

On a night of dramatic swings and a World Series-record eight home runs, Marwin Gonzalez stunned the Dodger Stadium crowd with a solo shot off dominant Los Angeles closer Kenley Jansen on an 0-2 pitch in the ninth that made it 3-all.

Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa hit consecutive home runs against Josh Fields in the 10th to build a 5-3 Astros lead, with Correa making a big bat flip to celebrate.

But there was more. Much, much more.

“That’s the craziest game that I’ve ever played in, and it’s only Game 2,” Springer said

Puig homered off Ken Giles starting the bottom of the 10th and Enrique Hernandez knotted the score 5-5 with a two-out RBI single.

Devenski entered and with Hernandez at second, a wild pickoff throw headed toward centre field before it struck second base umpire Laz Diaz. An incredulous Hernandez put both hands on his head, unable to advance, and was stranded when Chris Taylor flied out.

Cameron Maybin, who had entered in the 10th, singled leading off the 11th against McCarthy, a surprise addition to the Dodgers’ World Series roster who was pitching for the first time since Oct. 1. Maybin stole second and Springer hit a drive to right-centre for a 7-5 lead, just the third 11th-inning home run in the Series after shots by Kirby Puckett in 1991 and David Freese in 2011.

Springer, an All-Star leadoff hitter, was 0 for 4 with four strikeouts in the Series opener Tuesday.

Devenski retired Corey Seager and Justin Turner on lineouts in the bottom half. Puig checked his swing on a 2-2 pitch — the Astros jumped when first base umpire Gerry Davis signalled no swing — and Puig fouled off two more. Devenski threw his fifth straight changeup, and Puig swung over it as the Astros ran onto the field to celebrate after finally closing out a back-and-forth game that lasted 4 hours, 19 minutes.

“Oh my gosh, it was crazy. A lot of emotions, a lot of feelings,” Correa said. “The ball flies at this ballpark.”

After another steamy night in a Santa Ana heat wave, the series shifts to Texas and resumes Friday at Houston’s Minute Maid Park, where the retractable roof has not been open for a game since June 8. Lance McCullers Jr. starts for the Astros and Yu Darvish for the Dodgers, who acquired him from Texas at the July 31 trade deadline.

Houston is 6-0 at home in the post-season, where the Astros have outscored the Red Sox and Yankees by a combined 31-7, but just 2-5 on the road.

Insane see-saw action

Before Gonzalez’s home run, the Dodgers had an 85 per cent chance of winning, according to Fangraphs. After Correa’s long ball, the Astros were a 93 per cent favourite.

“Up, down, up, down, up,” Springer said, describing his emotions over the last few innings. “That’s a heck of a game right there.”

Verlander, wearing an undershirt, entered the dugout in the 11th inning to scream at his teammates that the game was not over.

Alex Bregman’s RBI single in the third gave Houston its first lead of the Series, a hit that might have turned into a three-run, inside-the-park homer had not the ball bounced off the bill of Taylor’s hat in centre and deflected right to Joc Pederson in left.

Los Angeles had just two hits through seven innings but led 3-1 behind Pederson’s fifth-inning solo homer and Seager’s two-run drive in the sixth against Verlander. It was Pederson’s first home run since July 26.

Dodgers bullpen finally gets caught

Jansen entered with a 3-1 lead for his first six-out save in a year after Bregman doubled leading off the eighth against Brandon Morrow, a ball that ticked off the glove of a diving Puig in the right-field corner.

Correa’s RBI single off Jansen ended a record 28-inning post-season scoreless streak by the Dodgers’ bullpen.

Gonzalez was an unlikely candidate for a tying homer. He had not driven in a run in his 45 plate appearances since Houston’s post-season opener.
