Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves called it "a great day to not be in Jackson" on Friday, referring to the state's capital, which has been deprived of clean running water for weeks.
Reeves made the remarks while attending a groundbreaking ceremony in Hattiesburg, roughly 90 miles southeast of Jackson, according to local reports.
"It is a great day to be in Hattiesburg. It's also, as always, a great day to not be in Jackson," he said, according to local television station 16 WAPT News. "I feel like I should take off my emergency manager director hat and leave it in the car and take off my public works director hat and leave it in the car."
Jackson is the state's largest city, home to more than 150,000 residents, the majority of whom are Black. The city lost access to clean running water after severe flooding in late August damaged its main water treatment facility.
The crisis has highlighted the devastation that happens and will continue to happen when issues like climate change, poor infrastructure, and systemic racism intersect.
Jackson had a boil-water notice in place since July, as residents turned on their taps to see brown water and waited in hourslong lines for bottled water. The city lifted the notice on Thursday.
"We've significantly increased the quantity of water produced," Reeves said at a press conference announcing the update on Thursday, according to The Mississippi Free Press. "We've restored water pressure to the city. We've installed an emergency rental pump. We've fixed and reinstalled broken parts on site, and we've monitored and tested water quality."
Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba later tweeted, "This is progress as we continue to work towards a consistent and reliable system."

]]>
THE BAD news is that high cholesterol is often the outcome of poor lifestyle choices. The good news, however, is that switching up these pesky habits can help retrieve your levels back from the red zone. What’s more, research has identified a red food that can lower your levels in “weeks”.
]]>Some actors are born to play the roles they inhabit. And that’s certainly the case with Matthew Willig, who brings depth and tenderness to his turn as Andre the Giant on NBC’s Young Rock.
Fans of the show got a taste of the former NFL offensive tackle’s range in this week’s installment, titled “My Day With Andre.”
In it, the wrestling great hangs out with a 10-year-old Dwayne (Adrian Groulx), aka Dewey, and takes him to the movies when his parents can’t. But first, they stop by the park and feed the pigeons, allowing both Andre and Dwayne to impart bits of wisdom to each other. For instance, Dewey tries to shoo away a portly pigeon he perceives as greedy. But Andre favors and defends the bird. Later, Dewey explains that like that pigeon, Andre isn’t too big; the world is just too small.
“Obviously, being my size, there are few roles that come along where I can say, ‘That’s right in my wheelhouse,’” Willig tells TVLine with a chuckle. (His past roles include Birds of Prey and Charmed.) “You add in me gaining weight and learning some French, and I definitely committed. But you never know how people are going to perceive it.”
Reception to Willig’s performance has been considerably positive, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, whose life the NBC sitcom is based upon, praising him publicly.
“I’m humbled and thankful Dwayne gave me the chance to play this role,” Willig adds. “It was the right fit, and I knew that it was going to be a good fit, even though I’ve said that numerous times in my career. So to have this happen and have Dwayne believe in me and even post about it on social media means the world.”
To fill Andre’s considerable shoes, Willig packed on 35 pounds and sports a curly wig. “I wish I had that much hair,” he confesses. He even worked with a dialect coach. And while the Southern California native isn’t quite as tall as the late, great Andre — the wrestler was 7 foot, and Willig is 6’8″ — he knows what it’s like to be a big man in a small world.
“People ask me all the time how I don’t hit my head on doorways,” Willig says. “I’ve learned to just adjust. It’s the same thing when I go to the movies. I know, or I’m very aware, that if I’m sitting in front of somebody that needs to see, I’ll just slouch down.”
On Young Rock, Andre doesn’t duck down at the movie theater, and the people behind him have to bob and weave for comedic effect.
“It’s just one of those things I automatically do,” he continues. “I’m always very aware of my surroundings, as far as that goes… I don’t even think about it anymore. It’s automatic. Being recognized a little bit and being really large, just walking around in a Las Vegas casino, for example, there are tons of people standing there, and you can see and feel them looking and talking about you as you walk by. Especially after I got into this business, I realized how tall I really am, because the smaller you are, the easier it is for production and camera crews and all that stuff. I do sometimes feel like I am a big man in a small world.”
As for “My Day with Andre,” Willig credits his young screen partner Groulx for being such a consummate professional.
“It was a really sweet episode, and it was a culmination of little Adrian and I having a nice relationship together and building that over the couple of months leading up to shooting that,” says Willig, the father of two daughters. “I think the kid is amazing. I love that kid. He’s so talented. When we’re sitting there talking, it really is kind of a nice chat. I was able to see the episode myself, and I’m really happy the way it came out and happy with the way that it feels. He’s teaching me, and I’m teaching him, and it’s a nice moment.”

The doctors of Chicago Med are now dealing with the coronavirus in real life: Production on the NBC medical drama has been shut down for two weeks after a production team member tested positive for COVID-19, our sister site Deadline reports.
The production team member was immediately sent home following the positive test, and producers Wolf Entertainment and Universal TV decided to pause production out of an abundance of caution, since the production team member was in close proximity with the cast and crew. (A second member from the same department also tested positive last week.)
Med just began filming last week for the upcoming Season 6, and as of now, is still slated to premiere on Wednesday, Nov. 11, along with its fellow #OneChicago series Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. Those other two series are set to begin filming next month.
The global coronavirus pandemic — which has claimed more than 200,000 lives in the United States alone so far — has delayed production on virtually every TV series, with some shows just now getting back to filming. NBC has had to shuffle its fall schedule, with reality shows like American Ninja Warrior and a Weakest Link reboot hosted by Jane Lynch picking up the slack while scripted shows like Law & Order: SVU and The Blacklist get pushed back several months. This Is Us, however, actually moved up its premiere date to Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Eleven more acts returned to the America’s Got Talent stage on Tuesday for another round of (mostly) live performances. But will the voters be as easy to win over as super-soft guest judge Kenan Thompson?
“First of all, thank you all for having me here,” Thompson, the second celeb to step in for an injured Simon Cowell, said atop the two-hour broadcast. “This is incredible. The only thing I can say is just seize the moment. If you have nerves, turn those nerves into superpowers. Go out there and take it!”
Read on for a breakdown of the 11 acts we saw on Tuesday…
KELVIN DUKES | The 14-year-old crooner kicked off the night with a high-energy rendition of “Valerie” that was definitely more Bruno Mars than Amy Winehouse. And that’s not a bad thing! Howie Mandel said he couldn’t wipe the smile off his face, and Heidi Klum officially dubbed him one of her favorites. No complaints. Click here to watch.
THE SHAPE | The next time someone tells you that Generation Z has no appreciation for artists of yesteryear, point them in the direction of this charming bunch. Decked out in matching Charlie Chaplin mustaches and canes, these dancing “brothers” dazzled the judges with a routine set to Pitbull’s “Fireball” and Neon Trees’ “Everybody Talks.” Actually, make that most of the judges; Mandel opposed his fellow panelists, telling The Shape that they had “no precision.” (I don’t know who’s the bigger monster — Mandel or the cops that wouldn’t let the guys rehearse at their local park during quarantine.) Click here to watch.
KAMERON ROSS | The first single-tear moment of the night came courtesy of Kameron Ross’ tumultuous backstory about coming out to his mom, who is now battling cancer. It was a beautiful story, and I was really rooting for Ross to kill it this week… which is why I was pretty bummed that he didn’t. But it’s up to America, so time will tell whether his nervous Lady Gaga performance gave voters a million reasons to let him go — or just one good one to stay. Click here to watch.
BAD SALSA | This dancing duo took us to Bollywood this week, prompting a very impressed Klum to suggest the act rename itself BAD-ASS Salsa. “Is this a dance act or a danger act?” she asked, to which Vergara added, “Before I die, I need someone to spin me like that!” (Your move, Joe Manganiello.) Mandel even used BAD Salsa’s performance to take another jab at The Shape, telling his fellow judges that BAD Salsa showed the “precision” that The Shape lacked. (Honestly, what happened to Mandel in his childhood that left him so angry at shapes?) Watch:
VINCENT MARCUS | This. Poor. Guy. Marcus’ performance of nursery rhymes-turned-raps was easily one of the cringiest television moments I’ve experienced in recent weeks. I’m not saying he owes a personal apology to each and every one of the rappers he attempted to impersonate, but it might be a nice gesture. Thompson offered mostly positive remarks, but Klum — who had to whisper “He’s doing Eminem” into Mandel’s ear — told it like it was. Click here to watch.
ALEXIS BROWNLEY | I’ll be honest, I kind of wish AGT hadn’t shown us the pre-recorded bit with Brownley’s dogs talking before this week’s performance. I mean, now that we know they can talk, is it really that impressive to watch them jump over a few hurdles? That said, I do agree with Mandel’s assessment that “this is better than pigs.” Click here to watch.
BONAVEGA | In the immortal words of Monty Python, “and now for something completely different.” This self-proclaimed “rock ‘n’ roll crazy person” gave us an extremely necessary mid-show energy boost with an ’80s-tastic performance of The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights.” The vocals were pretty solid, but what the judges really enjoyed was BONAVEGA’s aerobics-inspired outfit — even if Vergara preferred the J.Lo-inspired number he rocked during his initial audition. (“It was better for your body type!”) Click here to watch.
SPYROS BROTHERS | For two guys who excel in something called “the diablo,” these bonded brothers really do present themselves like little angels. Am I a diablo person? I wouldn’t say so. Much like Vergara, I feel like “it brings me fear.” But at least Mandel, who once again threw the word “precision” into the mix, had their back. Click here to watch.
DANELIYA TULESHOVA | I definitely appreciated Tuleshova’s slightly softer, more emotional take on Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times,” even more so when I was reminded that the songstress is only 14 years old. It was hardly surprising to see her nab one of the few standing ovations of the night. Watch:
JONATHAN GOODWIN | The minute this certified lunatic appeared on my screen, I felt like I was watching an entirely different show. Kind of like Fear Factor, only with someone a million times more charming than Joe Rogan. (I especially enjoyed Goodwin’s off-the-cuff joke about Mandel’s dangerous bedroom activities, mostly because of how visibly uncomfortable it made him.) As I was saying, this certified lunatic doused himself in fuel before attempting to break himself free from a trap before he burned alive. It was… stressful. Klum put it best: “You’re completely insane, but I kind of liked it.” Click here to watch.
VOICES OF OUR CITY CHOIR | This inspiring San Diego-based group blessed us with another powerful performance, this time taking on the timeless classic “Stand By Me.” The harmonies were tight, the emotions were palpable, and that spoken-word moment was an especially nice touch. “I don’t know if you get a kick out of making people cry their eyes out, but that’s what happens every time you step onto the screen,” Thompson told them. (The SNL actor also earned points for knowing what the choir sang for its first audition. A guest judge who actually watches the show? Revolutionary!) Click here to watch.
So, which five of these acts should move on to the semifinals? And how’d Thompson as a fill-in for Cowell? Vote in our polls below, then drop a comment with more of your thoughts.

The BBC have today announced their 2019 salary list which shows the top earners at the corporation.
Gary Lineker tops the list with a whopping £1.75million wage, which hasn’t changed since last year.
However, there has undoubtedly been a rise in payment out to some stars.
BBC director general Tony Hall confirmed the total talent bill had risen by £10million, however, he argued that it was a smaller proportion of total programming costs.
He wrote in a blog: “They would earn significantly more elsewhere – and recent departures to commercial rivals show this argument isn’t hollow.
“The simple truth is we have spent more than ever on content, but the amount we have spent proportionally on talent has come down.
“But more importantly, whenever we ask the public whether they want big stars on the BBC they say yes. They say yes because they are talented and entertaining. They also say yes as it means they are getting big value from the BBC.”
Furthermore, stars including Jeremy Vine, John Humphrys and Steve Wright have all taken pay cuts.
Despite this, there are plenty of stars who have found their fortunes increase over the past year, including Zoe Ball and Sara Cox.
The salary list comes just weeks after the BBC confirmed it would be dropping free licence fees for the over-75s.
At the time, they said it was needed to ensure they didn’t compromise on output, with Hall adding: “This has not been an easy decision. Whilst we know that pensioner incomes have improved since 2000, we also know that for some the TV license is a lot of money.

“I believe we have reached the fairest judgement after weighing up all the different arguments. It would not be right simply to abolish all free licences. Equally it would not be right to maintain it in perpetuity given the very profound impact that would have on many BBC services.”
At the time, the move caused considerable controversy across the country, with the likes of Piers Morgan calling for the plan to be scrapped.
Today, people have flocked to Twitter to comment on their feelings for the BBC’s pay rises considering the recent cuts.
One shared: “The BBC publicly demonstrates that it overpays all of its ‘Top Earners’ equally. I’m sure all of the over-75s think they’re worth every penny.”
Another added: “HOW CAN THE @bbc DEFEND ONE MILLION POUND WAGE PACKETS with plans to scrap free TV licences for over-75s.”

“An increase in salaries while the @BBC wants to make over 75s pay for a TV Licence. Typical public service Gravy Train,” said a third.
Elsewhere on the list, women broke into the top ten for the first time.
Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman bagged £370,000 and was eighth on the list of the top 10 earners.
She was joined by Zoe Ball, who earned the exact same figure while Vanessa Feltz came 10th, with £355,000 for her efforts on BBC Radio 2.
The likes of Jo Whiley, Gabby Logan and Lauren Laverne have also seen their pay increase dramatically.

Earthquakes have plagued Japan through the start of 2019. The latest tremor struck on the island of Kyushu on January 26. Fortunately no casualties were reported but the natural disaster followed two similar events in the country in the space of weeks. Japan welcomes thousands of British holidaymakers every year, yet could their journeys be under threat?
What is the current situation in Japan?
On January 26, the Japanese island of Kyushu was been rocked by a 4.4 magnitude earthquake – barely three weeks after it was struck by another, similarly sized tremor which was rapidly followed by a larger one off its south east coast.
The Japanese Meteorological Agency (JMA) said the tremor had hit Kumamoto prefecture today at 2.16pm (5.16am GMT), but stressed there was no risk of a tsunami as a result of it.
The quake, which happened at a dept of just over six miles, registered a lower 5 on the Japanese earthquake scale, equivalent to 4.4 on the standard moment magnitude scale in the town of Nagomi, which replaced the Richter magnitude scale in the 1970s.
There were no immediate reports of any injuries as a result of the earthquake.
What has the UK Government said about travel to Japan?
The UK Government has not issued any advice suggesting holidaymakers should not visit Japan.
Yet they have flagged the threat of earthquake and warned travellers to be prepared.
They state: “There’s a continuous risk of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis throughout Japan.
“Latest warnings and advisories are published on the Japan Meteorological Agency website.
“As Japan is in a major earthquake zone you should familiarise yourself with safety procedures in the event of an earthquake or tsunami, and take note of instructions in hotel rooms, at train stations and on your local prefectural website.
“Information on earthquakes and any impact on towns and cities in Japan, including tsunami warnings, are published by the Japan Meteorological Agency.”
A total of 310,500 British nationals visited Japan in 2017.
When were the previous earthquakes in Japan?
On January 3, Nagomi was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5, with the JMA warning about the possibility of aftershocks over the next week.
Five days later, another quake measuring 6.3 on the scale struck at a depth of 10 miles north-northwest of Nishinoomote on the island of Tangegashima in Kagoshima Prefecture.
The quake happened at a depth of 24 miles and was centred 73 miles southeast of the city of Kagoshima in south of Kyushu.
