Handforth parish councillor Jackie Weaver became an overnight sensation when a virtual parish council meeting spiralled out of control. Weaver had been called in to support the Handforth councillors but chaos quickly ensued when chairman Brian Tolver refused to accept the legitimacy of the meeting. He was kicked out and sent to a virtual waiting room after uttering the now infamous words: “You have no authority here Jackie Weaver”. The parish councillor told BBC Breakfast she’s been overwhelmed by the public support she’s received and is “chuffed” to be meeting Strictly Come Dancing’s Anton Du Beke. 

Weaver revealed: “This is just between us but I’m so chuffed I’ve been invited to meet on the screen Anton Du Beke on Monday. That has just made my world.”

“What a special moment that’s going to be,” Charlie Stayt remarked. “Fancy that.”

“Oh it will be,” Weaver replied. “For me anyway.”

“Jackie Weaver for Strictly,” Rachel Burden interjected. “Come on!”

“You can see it now, can’t you? Is that on the cards Jackie?” Stayt asked.

The parish councillor chuckled and replied: “I just want to look at him.”

“Can I just ask one thing Jackie?” Stayt asked. “Have things calmed down because we’re all laughing about it and we’re on the outside. But are there people still angry? How has it settled?”

“It hasn’t settled yet because clearly we’re in the middle a whirlwind, everybody involved in the parish council will be,” Weaver responded. 

“I really am impressed with your use of the eject button [on your computer] good work,” Burden commented. 

“And the Strictly thing that’s a tick is it? That’s definitely a possible, have I got that right?” Stayt asked. 

“No just totally as a passenger there I just want to look at him that’ll do,” Weaver replied. 

“See how we didn’t interrupt you or tried not to anyway, we’re always excused of interrupting people. Did we do okay?” Stayt asked. 

“You absolutely nailed it,” the parish councillor remarked. 

Bookmakers Coral have backed Weaver at 10-1 to be on Strictly when the BBC show returns later this year. 

Coral’s John Hill said: “Jackie Weaver has become an internet sensation overnight. She is now being backed to be on the Strictly dance floor later this year.

“Weaver acted with great authority in her parish council meeting and maybe she will be a great asset on I’m A Celeb in 2021. We are not ruling out an appearance in the jungle.”

Canada's Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje won the gold medal in ice dance behind a new program on Saturday at the Autumn Classic International figure skating competition.

The Canadian world championship bronze medallists from Waterloo, Ont., unveiled an emotional new free dance to a piece from the Quebec rock opera Starmania. It was also a tribute to figure skater Denis Ten of Kazakhstan, who skated to the same music last season. Ten was killed in July. He was 25.

"It felt good to get out there and really perform this program," said Poje. "It's been special for us since the beginning. We just wanted to go out, take it easy and feel the environment."

Olivia Smart and Adrian Diaz of Spain finished second with 171.41 points while Canadian pair Carolane Soucisse and Shane Firus were third with 166.24.

''We left a couple of points on the table but it was pretty good,'' said Firus. ''The elements were solid so we know we got to work on our technical which will get better as the season progresses.''

Another set of Canadians, Molly Lanaghan and Dmitre Razgulajevs placed sixth.

"Everything right now is a work in progress," said Weaver. "We've taken our time with it and with more mileage it's going to get stronger and stronger. This week we've felt comfortable on the ice with our programs and that's a testament to our level of preparation."

Olympic champ Hanyu wins gold, Canada's Sadovsky 3rd

Later Saturday, Roman Sadovsky of Vaughan, Ont., earned bronze in the men's event won by Japanese star and Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu.

The 19-year-old Sadovsky was fourth after the short program with 78.14 points, more than 10 behind third-place American Jason Brown. But Sadovsky scored a solid 155.09 in the free program to take the bronze with a personal best 233.86 total.

"The quad Salchow is my best jump so I was a bit disappointed to miss that,'' said Sadovsky. ''That's silly points just gone. However, I landed my first quad toe. So there was some good, some bad. Although 233 is my highest, there is still so much to go.''

Hanyu had 263.65 total points and won the title despite finishing second in the free skate. Junhwan Cha of South Korea took silver with 259.78 points.

Canadians Bennet Toman and Kevin Reynolds finished sixth and eighth, respectively.

On Friday, Kirsten Moore-Towers of St. Catharines, Ont., and Michael Marinaro of Sarnia, Ont., won the silver in pairs.

Blomkamp has tweeted constantly about Alien 5 and Weaver has gushed about his ideas and “incredible script.”

Now Ridley Scott has told a French magazine that the chances were “pretty slim” of Alien 5 ever making it to the big screen. He has also cast a shadow over the comments made by his fellow director and the iconic star of the original Alien movies.

Scott said: “I think that it will never happen. It was never on the cards.”

So what is going on?

Neil Blomkamp seems to have had a different idea after originally tweeting an image of a classic Alien with the comment: “I think it’s officially my next film.”

As recently as last week, for Alien Day on April 27 he tweeted a picture of Sigourney Weaver as Ripley, surely knowing that fans would again post countless comments begging for news on Alien 5 – which, of course, they did.

Scott, however, in the new interview with Allocine completely dismantled fans’ hopes and refuted reports that there was even a script in place.

Yet, last summer Weaver announced: “There is an incredible script by Neill (Blomkamp).

“I didn’t want to do a fifth one. I thought going to earth wouldn’t be fun. I got this script that was amazing and gives fans everything they’re looking for and innovates in ways that became part of the world for me.

“The script itself has so much in it that’s so original, but also really satisfies the, I would say, the primal needs of the aliens. It’s a tribute to all of the great work that the other directors have done, in a way, but goes in a completely new direction.”

In the new interview Scott underplays the existence of any major plans or script.

He added: ”It was just an idea that evolved from a pitch of a few dozen pages.”

Weaver had said she and Blomkamp had hoped to work on Alien 5 last year but Scott’s Prometheus and its sequels were taking priority. She added: “I think Ridley [Scott] didn’t want them all coming out at the same time.”

The 79-year-old director is about to release his second Alien prequel, following up on 2012’s Prometheus.

It turns out Scott is planning at least two more films to lead up to the events of his original Alien from 1979.

The filmmaker made the reveal during an interview with Empire, confirming the third prequel is already up and running.

He said: “Right now we’ve got a ten-page synopsis. John Logan’s doing it. And we know where we’re going with it.

On the idea of digitally de-ageing Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley for future films, Scott is open.

He said: “You could do that.”

Speaking with Fandango the director, who was , revealed he wants the franchise to keep going.

Scott said: “There will be another one before we kind of literally and logically, clockwise, back into the rear back head of [the original] Alien.

He added: “If this is successful, and then the next one, and then there will definitely be three more.”

Alien: Covenant is released in UK cinemas on May 12, 2017.

Avatar was released in 2009 and changed the 3D movie game as we knew it. But the much-anticipated (and much-promised) sequel to James Cameron‘s sprawling sci-fi epic has been delayed year after year, until now.

Sigourney Weaver, who played Dr. Grace Augustine in the original Avatar and has a new role in the sequels, confirmed that  Avatar 2 starts shooting this fall.

Weaver excitedly told The Hollywood Reporter at a screening of The Assignment on Monday night that the cast and crew behind Avatar 2 have begun pre-production and will begin shooting in the fall. She told the outlet:

“We’re starting! We’re starting training, and we’re starting — hmm, I probably can’t say anything. We will be actually shooting it by the fall.”

Cameron announced that he plans four sequels to the original Avatar, and has finished the script for Avatar 5 in January. Cameron had stated that the sequels were written as “separate stories that have an overall arc inclusive of the first film,” clarifying that the movies would have conclusions instead of cliffhangers.

Cameron had also previously noted that in addition to Weaver, stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana were also set to return for the sequel, which was set for a 2018 release date. But fans were disappointed to hear that the film would not be arriving in 2018.

However, with Weaver’s confirmation, we now have concrete evidence that Avatar 2 is making progress, and can be expected to hit theaters in two or three years (maybe). Cameron was recently announced to be prepping a Mirage 4KLH RGB laser projection system for Avatar 2, which is capable of handling 3D, 4K resolution at 120 frames per second.

As important as the visuals are to the film — indeed it was the film’s ingenious use of motion capture and 3D formats that have caused it to go down in history, not its character or plot — Weaver assured fans to not discount the scripts. She told the Hollywood Reporter:

“I’m telling you, these scripts are so amazing, I’m not worried about [disappointing fans] at all. Am I worried about how we’re going to bring them to life? Yes, because they’re so ambitious. They’re so worth it. They’re well worth waiting for. I’m not worried about that at all. We’re trying to get it done as quickly as possible.”

Meanwhile, as Cameron and co., busy themselves with the production of Avatar 2, the plot details of which are under wraps, you can visit Pandora in real life with Disney’s Avatar-inspired theme park set to open May 27, 2017.
