Former President Bill Clinton said Democrats can retain control of Congress in the 2022 midterms, but warns Republicans will "scare the living daylights out of swing voters" in an interview with CNN's Fareed Zakaria.
Zakaria asked Clinton if Democrats, who have seen encouraging signs about their midterm prospects in recent weeks, can break the decades-long trend of the president's party losing control of Congress in midterm elections.
"Absolutely we could hold both these Houses, but we have to say the right things," Clinton told Zakaria in the interview, which aired Sunday. "And we have to know the Republicans always close well. Why? Because they find some new way to scare the living daylights out of swing voters about something. That's what they did in 2021 when they made critical race theory sound worse than smallpox."
In 2021, Republicans swept the top three statewide offices in Virginia, which had previously been trending towards Democrats, and put up an unexpectedly strong showing in New Jersey's gubernatorial race partly by mobilizing voters, especially parents, over both the teaching of race in schools and COVID-19 induced school closures.
"They just scare people," Clinton added. "And in the end, the breakpoint in American politics is not that much different than the 90s. You still have to get those people, it's just that there's so many fewer of them, because as the parties have gotten more ideological and clear and somehow psychically intolerant, they pull more and more people towards the extremes."
—Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) September 18, 2022
Increased polarization and partisanship since Clinton held office in the 1990s means fewer persuadable swing voters and fewer willing to cross party lines. The 2020 election, for example, saw record-low numbers of voters splitting their tickets between elect. But Clinton still argued that "there's some people who are hanging on there and trying to think, and trying to understand what's going on."
Zakaria also asked Clinton about the recent death of Ken Starr.
The hard-charging special prosecutor, who died at age 76, doggedly investigated the Clintons first in the Whitewater probe, over their real estate dealings in Arkansas. The investigation then zeroed in on Clinton's extramarital affair with then-White House intern Monica Lewinsky, which became the biggest scandal of his presidency and led to his impeachment.
"Well, I read the obituary, and I realized that his family loved him, and I think that's something to be grateful for, and when your life is over that's all there is to say," Clinton said of Starr."But I was taught not to talk about people that I — you know. If you aren't sure of the phone number of an iPhone you're using, there's no need to stress. There are several ways to figure out the phone number. You could, for example, call someone and see what number comes up.
If you don't have or want to use that option, you can find the number in the phone and through iTunes. Here's how.
A simple way to find your number is to check the Phone app's settings in the Settings app.
1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down to and tap Phone.
3. Your phone number will be next to My Number.
Stefan Ionescu
Another way to find the number on the phone is in the Phone app itself.
1. Open the Phone app on your iPhone.
2. Tap Contacts in the bottom menu.
3. Tap My Card – this is the first contact on the screen.

Your laptop's battery runs down while you work, so it's not surprising that you'll see a low battery warning if you've been away from the office all day, running on battery power. What is surprising, though, is getting that battery warning if the laptop has been plugged in and (at least theoretically) charging all day.
But it can happen — sometimes, despite being connected to power, your laptop simply won't charge. There are a handful of reasons why that can happen, so read on for the seven most common ways to fix your laptop when the battery is not charging.
This might sound like one of those ridiculous "is your computer turned on" questions that the IT department tends to ask at the start of a troubleshooting session, but it's worth checking. Make sure you are really completing the circuit; the cable should be securely connected to your laptop and the power adapter plugged into the wall receptacle. Also make sure the laptop end of the cable is completely connected to the power adapter. And check to see if the wall outlet you're using is connected to a wall switch. Many homes let you toggle certain outlets on and off with a wall switch, so there may be no power flowing to the laptop.

Increasingly, modern laptops rely on USB-C as a standard high-capacity power cable instead of a proprietary power port. That's convenient, but it can lead to situations in which you accidentally plug your laptop's power adapter into the wrong USB-C power — one that isn't designed to serve as a charging port. If you plug your power adapter into the wrong USB-C port (one designed for data transfer and delivering power to other devices rather than charging the laptop battery) you won't damage your laptop, but your laptop won't charge.
Another common problem: Using the wrong power adapter. Many power bricks simply can't deliver enough power to charge your laptop, so just because you have access to an adapter with a USB-C cord, that doesn't mean you can charge any USB-C laptop with it. Low wattage chargers might be able to more or less keep your battery from running down while it's in use, but it'll charge very, very slowly, or not at all when the laptop is off. Find the charger that came with your laptop rather than trying one that's conveniently nearby.
If the problem isn't a bad connection, the wrong port or power adapter, it's possible that there is a problem with your laptop battery and it won't take a charge. Alternately, the power adapter could be failing. An easy way to check: If your laptop features a removable battery, take it out. Unplug the power adapter and then press and hold the laptop's power button for at least 15 seconds. This should reset the laptop and drain any residual charge in the power supply. Now, with the battery still removed, plug the power adapter in and see if you can start the laptop. If you can, great — the power adapter probably works fine. Reinsert the battery and see if it'll charge. Reseating the battery can fix a janky connection. And if your battery isn't removable, try resetting the laptop's power by holding the power button anyway.
Still no joy? Let everything cool down. Shut off your laptop completely and let it return to room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Likewise, remove the power adapter from both the wall receptacle and the laptop and let it cool as well. After both components have returned to ambient temperature, try charging again. If either had gotten too hot, they might not be able to charge properly.
It's possible that your laptop might need a software update. You can quickly check to see if there are any driver updates that can get your computer charging again.
If you are using a Windows laptop, click the Start button and type "device." Choose Device Manager when you see it appear in the search results. Expand the entry for Batteries and right-click Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery. In the dropdown menu, choose Update Driver and then choose Search automatically for drivers. If there's an update available, install it and restart your laptop. Then try charging your battery again to see if that solved your problem.

On a Mac, shut down your laptop with the power adapter still attached. Press and hold the power button while simultaneously pressing Shift + CTRL + Option. Let go of all the keys, and then turn the laptop back on to see if this solved the problem.
Another aspect worth investigating is the possibility that the power cable itself has gotten damaged. Feel carefully along the entire length of the cable to make sure there are no sharp kinks, or that the cable is otherwise broken, frayed, or damaged. Check the ports and plugs to make sure everything looks to be in working order.

]]>Personally, I dug it as a heaping slice of life. But then, I could probably watch Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride knit mittens and be entertained. Anyway, whether you liked or loathed “Diverged,” the details of what transpired are below.
‘SMELLS LIKE DARYL’ | As the hour began, Daryl and Carol were leaving Leah’s cabin with Dog after their big fight. Things remained chilly between them, but Daryl still offered Carol his pocket knife to open her stuck water bottle. When their paths, as the title suggested they would, diverged, with Carol going back and Daryl poking around awhile longer, Dog opted to follow her. “Nice,” grumbled Daryl. Once home in Alexandria, Carol informed her four-legged companion that she’d meant it when she’d told Daryl that she didn’t need an apology. “I know he meant what he said, and an apology’s just a truce. It doesn’t fix anything” — unlike belly rubs, she added.
Though Carol was desperate to make herself useful, Jerry couldn’t think of a single thing for her to do. But when his tummy rumbled, she got the bright idea to not only mend the tattered scarf to which Dog had drawn her attention but make soup. Never mind that the rats had been in the grain and the solar panels were out of whack. “I’ll make it work,” she said. “You always do,” he replied. No sooner had she gotten to work than Dog freaked out chasing a rat around the kitchen. Banishing him to Daryl’s quarters, she MacGyver’d a mousetrap, because that’s just what Carol does — she makes it work.
‘YESTERDAY WAS NOT MY BEST DAY’ | Foraging for ingredients to replace the ones that Dog had knocked over, Carol took out a bunch of walkers with the same ease that you or I might sweep up dust bunnies. She then used Daryl’s knife to fix Alexandria’s solar panels. Why? Because there is nothing that Carol can’t do. Shortly, she let Dog back into the kitchen and promised him scraps if he was a good boy. She also caught the rat… and promptly dropped it, leading to a funny if unlikely scenario in which our fierce warrior haplessly chased the thing around like she was in a Tom and Jerry cartoon. When finally the rat scurried through a hole in the wall, she plugged it with the scarf… just as the restored power went out. Sigh. “There’ll be more sun tomorrow,” she told Dog, “right, buddy?”
That night, Carol reassured Dog that Daryl would be back. He always came back. “I don’t, though, do I?” Should she just scram? she asked. Alas, Dog offered no barks of wisdom. Later, Dog woke up Carol freaking out. The rat was back in the kitchen. First, Carol cut a hole in the wall to see if she could spot it. Then she stabbed at the wall. Finally, she just tore the wall to shreds. When she’d exhausted herself, she sat on the floor, Dog sweetly lying down next to her in the debris. The next day, Jerry stopped by and quickly admitted that he was checking on Carol. When she’d come back without Daryl, Jerry had assumed she might be in need of an Ezekiel saying like, “A friend is someone who thinks you’re perfect even if everyone else thinks you’re broken.” What if one’s best friend just realized that one was broken later than everyone else? Ezekiel didn’t have a saying for that that Jerry knew of. What would he himself say? she asked. Almost in tears, Jerry just hugged her… as the rat scurried away like it was checking out of a hotel.
‘YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME’ | While all that was going on, Daryl’s bike conked out. Thankfully, he soon found a bunch of deserted vehicles; those woods are lousy with ’em, aren’t they? While underneath one, raiding it for parts, a walker inside moved, sending the precariously parked vehicle tilting ominously in Daryl’s direction. (You can watch below.) Needless to say, he didn’t get squashed. Upon returning to his bike, Daryl quickly ascertained that dang it, he couldn’t make the repair without the knife that double dang it, Carol hadn’t returned. So he was walking the bike home when he happened upon some camo-clad walkers and, by the hardest, obtained from their gear a bunch of supplies — including a new pocket knife.
When at last Daryl made his way back to Alexandria, Carol was just giving up on mending the scarf; she had walls to repair now, anyway. What happened to you? they each asked upon seeing one another’s disheveled state. “You know,” Carol said, “the usual.” He didn’t want any of her soup, nor did he want his knife back. But as showrunner Angela Kang recently told us — and plans for their spinoff suggest — their friendship was anything but kaput. So, what did you think of “Diverged”? If nothing else, since it focused on well-established characters, you had to like it better than “Splinter,” right?

Series lead Michael Burnham (played by Sonequa Martin-Green) finally rose through the ranks to become captain of the USS Discovery in the latest Star Trek instalment. Although the promotion was well-deserved, showrunner for the CBS All Access sci-fi extravaganza Alex Kurtzman confirmed more challenges lie ahead in the next season.
Producer and showrunner Alex Kurtzman has given fans a glimpse at what’s in store for captain Michael Burnham in the confirmed fourth season of Star Trek: Discovery
Burnham was finally promoted to captain in the finale of last year’s third season after saving the Federation and her crew from the evil Osyraa (Janet Kidder).
She replaced former captain Saru (Doug Jones), who had been preceded by several others, though the USS Discovery seems to have finally found its permanent commander in Burnham.
Speaking to Deadline, Kurtzman withheld the biggest spoilers from season four, but confirmed Burnham’s first stint in the captain’s chair won’t be an easy ride.

More specifically, the showrunner teased her relationship with Cleveland ‘Book’ Booker (David Ajala) could be in trouble while the crew of the Discovery takes on a new threat.
He teased: “Her relationship with Book will be tested in many ways, for reasons I won’t tell you.
“We’re diving deep into science in the fourth season in a kind of new and interesting way.
“There have been many kinds of villains over the course of Star Trek. [But] what happens when the villain is not any kind of living, breathing entity, but something else?”
As well as vicious alien races and dark versions of themselves from alternate universes, the cast of Star Trek have faced a variety of mind-boggling threats ripped straight from the pages of the most challenging science fiction.
The showrunner’s comments could hint at the return of the hive mind humanoids known as the Borg, or a completely new foe altogether.
Star Trek: Discovery was renewed for a fourth season by CBS in October, with news of an upcoming spin-off suggesting Martin-Green could remain captain for many years to come.
Kurtzman also confirmed that the series has been building to Burnham’s eventual Starship captaincy since the beginning, with season four finally able to explore how she’ll handle the role.

He explained: “Early on in the process, we developed a central question, which is ‘how does this episode become another step in Burnham’s understanding of what it means to be a captain?’
“So, the stories were all filtered through what is the thing she’s learning in this episode that expands her perspective on that.”
So far, Burnham has seen a number of captains come and go, and has learned a lot from their mistakes and victories.
However, the new captain is still relatively inexperienced compared to her predecessors, and may not have earned the complete confidence of her crew until the end of Discovery’s next season.
The showrunner continued: “I do think that Burnham’s spent a lot of time thinking she had to be one thing or the other, and ended the season being rewarded with the captain’s chair for being two different things.
“[Admiral] Vance basically says you don’t have to pick, you do things your way and that’s why I want you in the chair. Because you’re ultimately fighting for what’s right.
“I think Burnham is going to have to keep figuring that out. She’s going to have to keep learning what that means.”
Star Trek isn’t the same without its constant conflict and moral dilemmas, so Burnham will undoubtedly be put to the test when the series finally returns to screens.
Star Trek: Discovery is available to stream on CBS All Access and Netflix.
CBS’ Blue Bloods opened Season 11 with some salient reflection on police brutality, serial-killer scares for Danny and Baez, and the hint of one Reagan making a major life change. Plus, we got our third new family dinner guest in four seasons!
As the premiere unfolded, there was a sense that Blue Bloods — which is about the NYPD police commissioner and his family — is perhaps the one TV show we wanted or needed to hear from on the topic of police brutality and civil unrest. That came in the form of Frank locking horns with City Council Speaker Regina Thomas (returning guest star Whoopi Goldberg), who tore into the NYPD on a morning radio show. Later confabbing in the commish’s office, Frank and Regina hit impasse after impasse, with each side urging the other to “de-escalate.” She asks Frank’s cops to stand down, but he maintains they get paid to stand up. (But for everyone?, Regina asks.) When Regina contends there are “criminals in the ranks” of the NYPD, Frank blurts out, “You need to get your head out of your ass,” for which he quickly apologizes.
Things between the two aren’t much better when Frank later shows up at Regina’s office. With the mayor clearly distancing himself from the police force as of late, and Frank vexed about how to serve the people and his officers without betraying either side, it falls upon Gormley to craft a resignation letter, complete with a pithy “P.S.,” that Frank seems to be considering sending to the mayor.
* While knocking doors to get info on a young woman found suffocated, Danny and Baez got locked in the cellar of an apparent serial killer’s brownstone. Shoved down the stairs, Baez busted up her need badly, and was in great pain while Danny fruitlessly foraged for a way out. At one point, Baez shared how back when she lived in Alphabet City “with a muscle head,” no one showed up he day she got promoted to detective. Danny, meanwhile — as one of the Reagans for whom luck never seems to run out — takes for granted the family bonds he has, nagging Erin included, Baez points out.
Though Danny fails to get Jamie and Joe’s attention when they do a first knock at the brownstone, where the serial killer son has music pumped loud, eventually the sergeant and detective find Danny and Baez when they suspect foul play inside. Afterward, Joe, who still seems to be finding his place, if any, in his newly discovered family, declines a Sunday dinner invite, but there nonetheless is a special guest that week, when Danny brings a truly gracious Baez to break bread with his brood.
* In a storyline reminiscent of NCIS: New Orleans‘ own season opener, Eddie helped a young woman, Anita, locate the body of her father, who had died and got misplaced during the first heavy wave of COVID deaths. Eddie eventually leads Anita to the Potter’s field on Hart’s Island, where the latter recites a prayer her dad said before her every basketball game. As Anita weeps at the grave of the dad she had fought with last they spoke, it nudges Eddie to decide to show up for her own father’s upcoming “compassionate release” hearing.

The 2019 fall TV season is truly underway, now that every single new broadcast series has made its debut. So, how is this year’s freshman class performing?
Even though the newcomers have only aired a handful of episodes — The CW’s Batwoman and Nancy Drew have had just two outings thus far — first impressions are a big deal, and even the strongest comedies and dramas have room for improvement.
To that end, the TVLine staff has come up with more than 25 suggestions for how 15 of the fall’s new shows can work out their kinks, while also recognizing what these shows have been doing right during their first few weeks on the air.
How can Batwoman fly even higher? Should Perfect Harmony change its tune? Which Almost Family matters need to be addressed? What would make Bob Hearts Abishola more lovable? How can Evil become very good?

Fuller House will be a bit less full in its fifth and final season due to the (presumed) absence of TV’s erstwhile Aunt Becky.
As previously reported, there are currently no plans for embattled actress Lori Loughlin to reprise her role as longtime Wake Up, San Francisco cohost Rebecca Donaldson-Katsopolis during the Full House spinoff’s farewell run, a part she has played for a combined 11 seasons. In the wake of her well-publicized college bribery scheme, Loughlin has already been let go by Hallmark Channel, which is currently attempting to plot a future without the star of its wholesome When Calls the Heart drama and Garage Sale Mystery TV-movies.
Considering that Loughlin has recurred throughout Fuller House‘s previous four seasons, it’ll be awfully hard to explain why she’s suddenly stopped paying visits to her former home which still houses nieces D.J. and Stephanie, as well as their many precocious children. That’s where TVLine comes in!
Having given it some thought, we’ve come up with six extremely meta exit strategies for Aunt Becky. (Admittedly, only some of these are feasible. In fact, most of them are in jest — so hold off on saying “How Rude!”)
Peruse the attached gallery (or click here for direct access), then scroll down and tell us how you think Fuller House will explain the character’s sudden disappearance.
