The YouTube video captured by passengers on the ship reveals the dangers of travelling at sea during a storm.

In the video, the waves crashed against the glass cabin doors, completely concealing the view.

The video caption explains that it was the 6th level of a ship that had seven levels, meaning the waves almost completely covered the ship.

Suddenly, the entire view went black as the deep waves continued to lash against the windows.

The person filming struggled to keep the camera straight, no doubt through the sheer force of the waves rocking the boat.

As waves splashed against the glass, it almost appeared like a car wash with nothing else in sight apart from water.

In the video, the passenger filming could be heard saying “wow,” while her partner said, “that’s crazy”.

She ended by saying: “Look at that wind,” before the video ended.

Thankfully the water didn’t breach the doors and no water seemed to leak in or damage the interior of the cabin.

The video has had over 13,000 views so far with online users shocked at the strength of the waves.

One user wrote: “Are you in submarine?” in reference to the complete submerging of the windows.

Another remarked: “You know there’s got to be some drunk idiot on that ship with the balcony doors open. ”

Others were fairly nonplussed: “Lol. Looks like hell out there.”

The ship in question and the destination of the cruise liner remains unknown.

Another ship was caught up in a dangerous storm earlier this year and was caught in a viral video.

The P&O ship was travelling through the Bay of Biscay when caught in extremely strong winds.

The passengers in the video were seen trying to drink at their table when the storm hit.

Cutlery and crockery were thrown across the dining hall while staff clung to handrails to stay upright.

No-one was injured during the storm, with P&O Cruises stating they made sure to minimise the impact of the weather on those onboard.

LIGO’s detection of gravitational waves came almost exactly a century after Einstein had formulated his general theory of relativity and an ensuing paper mathematically describing the possibility of gravitational waves. Or at least that’s the story as it was presented to the public (including by yours truly). And in some ways, it’s even true.

But the reality of how relativity progressed to the point where people accepted that gravitational waves are likely to exist and could possibly be detected is considerably more complicated than the simple narrative described above. In this week’s Nature Astronomy, a group of science historians lays out the full details of how we got from the dawn of relativity to the building of LIGO. And, in the process, the historians show that ideas about scientific revolutions bringing about a sudden, radical shift may sometimes miss the point.

Has your paradigm shifted?

The popular conception of scientific revolutions (to the extent that it exists) was shaped by Thomas Kuhn. Kuhn described a process where data gradually pushes an existing theory into crisis, allowing nearly everyone to see it doesn’t work. After a period of crisis, a revolution takes place and a new theory emerges. The theory’s ability to solve all the problems that precipitated the crisis quickly draws support, and a new period of theory-driven—in Kuhn’s language, “paradigm-driven”—science begins.

The California medical board is threatening to revoke the license of Dr. William Edwin Gray III for selling homeopathic sound files over the Internet that he claims—without evidence or reason—can cure a variety of ailments, including life-threatening infections such as Ebola, SARS, swine flu, malaria, typhoid, and cholera.

In an accusation filed with the state (PDF), the medical board writes that Gray is guilty of gross negligence and requested a hearing in which the board would decide whether to possibly revoke or suspend his license.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Gray said he had decided not to contest the board’s allegations, saying it would cost too much money to fight. He added: “Frankly, I think we’d lose anyway.”

A 7.6 magnitude earthquake has struck in the Caribbean Sea north of Honduras, triggering multiple tsunami warnings in the area, including for the coasts of Honduras and Belize.

The powerful quake, which was felt in the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa, struck some 36km northeast of Great Swan Island around 2:51am GMT, according to US Geological Survey.

Waves up to one meter above tide level are possible in Honduras and Belize, the PTWC warned, adding that earthquakes of this size are “known to generate tsunamis dangerous to shorelines near the source.” 

The agency projected that the “earliest estimated time that hazardous sea level fluctuations and strong ocean currents may begin” is after 5:20am GMT (1:20am Atlantic Standard Time).

After detecting the formation of the waves, the PTWC concluded that “based on observed data there is no threat” to other areas and lifted some of its earlier warnings. However, it is still advising residents of coastal Cuba, Mexico and Jamaica to watch out for “small sea level changes.”

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center also lifted its multiple tsunami advisories for the shoreline of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, where it earlier said waves of up to 0.3 meters were possible with a threat of “fluctuations and strong ocean currents that could be a hazard along coasts … beaches … in harbors … and in coastal waters.”

There were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage from the shallow quake, which had a depth of just 10 kilometers. The director of Honduras’ contingencies commission confirmed that the quake was felt “in the majority” of the country with no reports of damage, Reuters reports. Meanwhile Belize’s Emergencies Minister urged residents of low coastal areas to stay vigilant for potential danger.
