Dick, 61, and his wife Angel, 42, moved to France with their young children Arthur and Dorothy almost five years ago to begin a restoration project on a medieval castle. Escape to the Chateau viewers have seen the couple transform their new home from rags to riches on the Channel 4 programme and they have recently published a book about how they coped in the first year of their renovation. However, teasing their fans of what was included in the book, the mother-of-two had to warn her husband to stop talking about his undergarments – or lack of.

In a video published on the couple’s website, they are seen unpacking a box which contains one of the first editions of their book.

As Dick is seen opening up the parcel, he notices both his children are wearing t-shirts with the ACDC logo sprawled across the front.

Angel then joined in as she told her husband: “I’ve got it on my knickers,” to which the father-of-two explained he had gone “commando” so it “didn’t matter”.

With the conversation turning intimate in front of their children and fans, the Chateau owner warned her spouse not to reveal any more.

“Stop, stop! No more talking,” the mother-of-two declared, before turning the discussion back to the book.

Since the book was published in October last year, thousands of avid readers have got their hands on the couple’s renovation secrets.

The couple detail how they found their new home infested with flies and bats after moving from their two-bedroom flat in Essex in the midst of winter.

“Along the way, we’ll read glorious descriptions of rural life in France, with charming characters, delicious food and wonderful seasonal produce,” the synopsis reads.

“Together with the extraordinary list of renovations and restorations Dick and Angel completed, many of which were not shown on TV.”

Dick said of his wife Angel: “Angela is an alpha lady. We were introduced in 2010 by our shared agent — she is an entrepreneur and designer — who saw we were both efficient and organised, so well suited.

“Now we work and live together in France at Chateau de la Motte Husson, which we bought five years ago for £280,000.

“Renovation was hard work, but Angela learned fast and always looks gorgeous,” he said in a column for the Daily Mail.

The Chateau owner explained how his wife managed to knock down a wall to make two rooms into one and was climbing the scaffolding to get the job done.

At the end of the day, Dick described what he and Angel get up to once they’ve put their children to bed for the night.

As well as looking at their laptops for one final time, the couple share a glass of wine and talk about their day.

However, the father-of-two admitted his role as an engineer has led him to find a “solution to everything, everything except women.”

Escape to the Chateau is available to stream on All 4.

“It’s less than Susanna,” Ben joked, prompting the cast and crew to let out shocked “ooooh’s”.

“That was a low blow,” Alex warned, sticking up for Susanna in her absence.

Despite the risque joke, Ben and Charlotte laughed off the jibe and moved on with the show.

In fact, Ben had penned a sweet birthday message to Susanna prior to Friday’s GMB episode.

Ranvir and Giovanni warned to ‘spice it up’ after ‘safe’ routine amid romance rumours https://briefnews.eu/ranvir-and-giovanni-warned-to-spice-it-up-after-safe-routine-amid-romance-rumours/ https://briefnews.eu/ranvir-and-giovanni-warned-to-spice-it-up-after-safe-routine-amid-romance-rumours/#respond Sun, 29 Nov 2020 15:49:14 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/ranvir-and-giovanni-warned-to-spice-it-up-after-safe-routine-amid-romance-rumours/

Having impressed week on week, Ranvir and Giovanni took on the American Smooth in the hopes of securing a spot in next week’s Strictly Come Dancing quarter-final. And the GMB star and her partner replicated their good form once more – although not all the judges felt they were giving their all. So much so, Craig Revel-Horwood and Motsi Mabuse encouraged the two to “spice things up” next time they take to the dance floor.

Giovanni and Ranvir, who’ve been at the centre of the Strictly romance rumour mill for weeks, didn’t seem to put a foot wrong in their routine on Saturday evening.

Sadly, the same couldn’t be said for the likes of Bill Bailey and Clara Amfo, who both were pulled up for missing steps in their respective dances.

However, the performance only received a moderate score of 24 from the judges, landing them in joint fourth on the leaderboard with only Clara and Aljaz beneath.

And despite Giovanni shouting “wonderful” and “beautiful” moments after the routine, Craig and Motsi had rather different approaches.

Shirley heaped the praise on the two before Motsi began her critique: “The secret about this partnership which I absolutely adore and love,

“Is the connection between you two guys, the partnering, it’s so important to have that – especially in the ballroom dances.

“We don’t see that much gapping anymore, you are allowed to open yourself up.

“I love that you are owning the dance floor, you are owning it. It has become your home.”

The Strictly stalwart weighed in: “I would’ve liked to have seen more interesting lifts.

“You’ve got an opportunity in this dance to do something spectacular and amazing.”

Giovanni appeared to disagree as he rolled his eyes and giggled before the judge continued: “You chose not to,

“Which is fine, you played safe, that’s alright – you need more finesse in your arms when you’re going in and out of holds.”

Craig then said one of the moments in the routine in which Ranvir placed her arm on Giovanni’s back landed “like a lead weight”.

So can fans be expecting a slightly more risqué performance from the two if they make it to next week’s quarter-final?

Ahead of the dreaded dance-off, however, Ranvir certainly isn’t safe as she, Bill and JJ all stand on 24 points.

Only Clara’s 19 point haul is worse – but will they survive to dance another day?

Strictly Come Dancing continues with its results show on Sunday on BBC One.

Dr Hilary warned Kate Garraway as husband battled COVID horror: ‘Call an ambulance now!’ https://briefnews.eu/dr-hilary-warned-kate-garraway-as-husband-battled-covid-horror-call-an-ambulance-now/ https://briefnews.eu/dr-hilary-warned-kate-garraway-as-husband-battled-covid-horror-call-an-ambulance-now/#respond Fri, 05 Jun 2020 09:09:22 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/dr-hilary-warned-kate-garraway-as-husband-battled-covid-horror-call-an-ambulance-now/

Dr Hilary Jones urged Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway to call 999 after a phone consultation with her husband Derek Draper sparked fears over his deteriorating health. Garraway’s husband has been battling a severe case of coronavirus since April and has been in intensive care for the past 10 weeks. Dr Hilary discussed his conversation with the GMB host after Garraway shared a heartbreaking account of her experience during her husband’s illness.

Dr Hilary said: “He had been deteriorating, his symptoms weren’t typical of any means and Kate was worried, so of course she called a colleague at work.

“I’m very very happy to help in those situations, as I have in the past with other people. That’s what I do.

“I spoke to Kate and she was concerned about whether she should call an ambulance.

“I said, ‘Is it possible to speak to Derek?’ I spoke to Derek and I was quite concerned, just the way he was speaking and his breathlessness.”

Dr Hilary said it had taken him just a few seconds to realise Derek’s condition was serious.

He continued: “It was less than 10 seconds. I said to Kate, ‘Look, this is time to call an ambulance. He is very breathless, significantly breathless’.”

Garraway said her husband Derek did not have any of the underlying health condition as revealed his level of infection was “off the scale.”

The GMB host said she was “praying” and “hoping” her husband would pull through after being admitted to a London hospital just after the lockdown was implemented.

After revealing her husband now no longer has COVID-19, Garraway warned the damage which the illness has caused on his body remained unprecedented and admitted she was not sure when and if he would pull through.

The Good Morning Britain presenter also opened up about her fears her own illness would prevent her from being able to take care of hew two children.

Garraway said: “We think of COVID as something live, mercifully, or it takes you and I think at the beginning of this, that’s what it was like.

“Some people got it very mildly, I’ve had it,” the presenter revealed, before adding: “Mercifully mildly.

“Although, there was a couple of days when I thought, ‘My goodness, what happens if I get really sick because we’re in lockdown and it’s just me with the children’.

“I had it mercifully. Other people have it more seriously and have to go to the hospital, but mercifully recover and of course, there are other people’s lives which are taken.”

The presenter also thanked all NHS staff for the “extraordinary” work they have been doing to take care of her husband and all other COVID-19 patients across the UK.

She added: ‘It’s extraordinary how they’re getting on top of this, I can’t say enough about the nurses but it is a war.”

Flights: Passengers MUST to do this at airport security this winter airports have warned https://briefnews.eu/flights-passengers-must-to-do-this-at-airport-security-this-winter-airports-have-warned/ https://briefnews.eu/flights-passengers-must-to-do-this-at-airport-security-this-winter-airports-have-warned/#respond Tue, 18 Dec 2018 12:55:40 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/flights-passengers-must-to-do-this-at-airport-security-this-winter-airports-have-warned/

Flights in the winter can be made tricker by the colder weather which sees passengers donning warm coats and plenty of layers. So many clothes may be a great idea when travelling in the chill to the airport but the bulky items can prove a hindrance when passing through the airport. Manchester Airport has now warned travellers that there’s one thing they should do when going through airport security at this time of year. The UK hub has said holidaymakers should make sure to remove their coats and scarves before they get to security.

This is because those who take off layers once at the metal detectors greatly slow down the process, leading to queues.

Manchester Airport calculations show that, on average, an unprepared passenger who has to unzip zips, undo buttons, take off hats, gloves and untie a scarf at the metal detector, rather than in the queue, adds over a minute per person to the security processing time.

“Safety and security is always our number one priority, so to help passengers avoid having Christmas treats confiscated and to prevent queues, we’re just reiterating how everyone can help us to help them,” Fiona Wright, Customer Services and Security Director at Manchester Airport, said.

The airport has also warned travellers to be savvy when it comes to packing and luggage.

“At this festive time of year passengers often travel with gifts of more unusual items, which unwittingly do not comply with the rules,” said Fiona.

“If in doubt, check with your airline first and put it in your suitcase for the hold, rather than your hand luggage.”

It’s also important that travellers don’t wrap any presents before they go through security.

“As you prepare to head off for the holidays carrying festive gifts for family and friends, my best advice is to avoid wrapping them,” said Adam Ewart, CEO and Founder of luggage shipping company Send My Bag.

“You may think you are saving yourself time by wrapping gifts before you leave, but security holds the right to rip open your beautifully done wrapping, should they want to inspect the package.

“This applies to both checked and carry-on luggage. Save the wrapping until you arrive so you don’t have to worry about your gifts and their journey through security.”

It’s important to remember that liquid restrictions still apply (under 100ml) even to presents.

Certain festive items are classed as liquids that you might not think of and could catch you out.

For example, brandy butter may start off solid but at the end of a flight it can turn into a liquid which means airlines count it as such, so it will have to be under 100ml to be able to fly with you. The same rule applies to camembert.

Snow globes also have liquid in them which means they won’t be allowed to pass through security.

Additionally, travellers should be careful with Christmas crackers. Under heightened security measures, airlines such as Ryanair, Etihad, Emirates and Norwegian Airlines have all banned them.

Passengers are not permitted to fly with the crackers, either in their hand luggage or in checked baggage.

Crackers fall under the ban because they fall under the explosives and flammable substances and devices for certain airlines.

Instagram car finance SCAM – Drivers warned of bogus lease firms using social media  https://briefnews.eu/instagram-car-finance-scam-drivers-warned-of-bogus-lease-firms-using-social-media/ https://briefnews.eu/instagram-car-finance-scam-drivers-warned-of-bogus-lease-firms-using-social-media/#respond Wed, 03 Oct 2018 09:48:43 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/instagram-car-finance-scam-drivers-warned-of-bogus-lease-firms-using-social-media/

Motorists are being warned about a new finance scam that sees con artists targeting unsuspecting motorists with too good to be true deals.

Deals advertised on the social media Instagram are targetting the most vulnerable motorists on the road.

Typically they offer motorists a policy without the need for a credit check or a deposit.

Usually, the deposit is a large lump sum up front as well as commit to regular monthly payments.

Leases are a type of credit, which means that only motorists with a good credit history will be likely to pass any affordability and suitability checks.

This means that motorists with poor credit history could be left unable to take out a lease.

Con artists are capitalising on these vulnerable motorists by essentially bypassing the process which is preventing them from getting a deal.

Fraudulent accounts have been spotted on Instagram, who are asking motorists to direct message the firms to be able to take out a policy.

These policies do not exist and it is just a ruse for these scammers to get hold of your details and convince you to hand over your cash.

The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) and Action Fraud are akin drivers to remain vigilant and question if a deal seems too good to be true.

BVRLA boss Gerry Keaney said: “These criminals are purposely targeting the vulnerable, scamming money from people who can least afford to lose it.

“It’s deplorable. Their adverts can appear very convincing with some even posing as BVRLA members and citing membership numbers of legitimate members.

“We want to get the message out there that all legitimate leasing brokers adhere to Financial Conduct Authority rules and will carry out credit and affordability checks.

“Those who don’t, will not be legitimate traders and could be out to scam you.”

Dubai tourists warned NOT to drink alcohol on flights following arrest of British mother https://briefnews.eu/dubai-tourists-warned-not-to-drink-alcohol-on-flights-following-arrest-of-british-mother/ https://briefnews.eu/dubai-tourists-warned-not-to-drink-alcohol-on-flights-following-arrest-of-british-mother/#respond Fri, 07 Sep 2018 09:05:00 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/dubai-tourists-warned-not-to-drink-alcohol-on-flights-following-arrest-of-british-mother/

Dubai flights often serve alcoholic drinks onboard as it is not illegal to drink in the air. It is, however, illegal to be drunk in public in Dubai.

The British Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) issued the warning to Britons travelling to the country.

They posted on the official Facebook page: “If caught carrying or drinking alcohol without a licence or with alcohol in your blood you can be arrested.”

The warning follows the arrest of Ellie Holman, who was detained when landing and was found with alcohol in her blood.

The Facebook page also warns: “It is a punishable offence to be under the influence of alcohol in public-including when transiting through the UAE.

“It can result in custodial sentences &/or fine (other offences committed while drunk will be heard separately).

“Take care to respect local customs & behave respectfully when consuming alcohol.

“There is zero tolerance for drink driving in the UAE. You can be arrested as a passenger in a car driven by someone with alcohol in their blood.”

Tourists cannot buy a license for alcohol, and so must only drink in areas which carry a license.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises: “Passengers in transit through the UAE under the influence of alcohol may also be arrested.”

Emirates has been contacted for comment.

Radha Stirling, chief executive of human rights group Detained in Dubai, said: “In light of the FCO’s announcement, we will be contacting all airlines who transit to or through the UAE to clarify their position on serving alcohol to passengers.

“Either the UAE will need to reform their laws urgently, or the airlines will need to update their policy to ensure the safety of customers.”

Dr Ellie Holman was imprisoned for three days in Dubai after being asked if she had consumed alcohol on the flight.

She told Mail Online she was “very pleased” the Foreign Office had changed the travel warning for British tourists.

Dubai has recently been encouraging British tourists to visit by offering free transit visas as well as free children visas every summer.

Flights to the UAE destination can be as cheap as £350 return when travelling abroad on holiday.

However, a number of tourists have come into trouble due to the strict laws.

Jamie Harron was sentenced to a month in prison last year for drinking alcohol, after being accused of indecently touching another man.

The man said he touched his hip in the bar, something Mr Harron said happened when he tried to walk past while carrying drinks.

Despite paying £32,000 in legal fees and losing his job, the British tourist said he would go back to the country.
