Warframe has built a loyal following based around its addictive gameplay and free-to-play model. It can be downloaded on PS4, Xbox One and PC, with a lot of new content being planned for 2018. Sheldon Carter, COO at developers Digital Extremes, recently spoke to Express.co.uk on the game’s enduring popularity in such a saturated market. And when asked what the key was to keeping their players happy, Carter revealed that Warframe has done well by listening to fans and revamping the game where needed. “There are games that share similar features, but I think there is room for a great many games to co-exist,” Carter explains. “I think that our constant schedule of updating, our semi regular revisits of old systems, and our emphasis on bringing new fresh gameplay to Warframe has something to do with it. “Our community is filled with amazing people and I think the relationship we have with them and they have with each other is a huge factor.” When it comes to big content coming to the game, Digital Extremes have already confirmed that a new Open-World area is being worked on for Venus. “For us, future planning means a few things. We are always on the lookout for re-freshing the idea of Warframe, and it’s been the case that we re-fuel our creative engines in the early part of the year (Q1),” Carter adds. “And, we are always – and I mean every single day – listening to and talking to our community. “We juggle a lot of content, too. And so sometimes a project, we’ll call it Project A, comes together beautifully. “And it becomes ready much faster than another project, say, Project G, which falls behind in the schedule as a result. “We re-juggle the order of update content depending on what is coming together best. “I guess you could say that we are always planning and assessing, and then re-prioritizing, depending on which piece of content reaches its fruition first and best. In short, we’re fluid. Very fluid.” So what about an expansion away from in-game content and onto a new platform? The Nintendo Switch games list has seen a lot of new ports confirmed for it, although none really fit the slot Warframe fills in the market. So is it possible that we could see the popular free-to-play game arrive in the coming years? According to the COO, Digital Extremes are only looking at possibilities right now, with no plans for a Warframe Switch port at the moment. When asked if a platform like the Nintendo Switch interests the Warframe team, Carter commented: “Oh, man, personally I love my Switch! “I have collected so many Korok Seeds in Zelda, it’s a little embarrassing. In the studio, we are playing all sorts of games on it. “Recently Steve was playing and loving Doom. That’s a great conversion. But as for putting Warframe on Switch, that’s a tougher question. “Like all new systems, we’re looking at and examining possibilities, but we have no current plans to put anything on the Switch.” So while Digital Extremes aren’t completely ruling out a port, it appears that the Nintendo Switch will be out of reach for the time being. Having apparently gone live before it should have, Digital Extremes have now confirmed the return of the Warframe Acolytes event. According to those playing last night, Acolytes were put live accidentally by the dev team, who have since revealed that plans are afoot for their return. “Acolyte cake is back in the oven, it’s not quite ready yet,” a Digital Extremes message explains. “We’ll let them cook overnight and the Acolytes will arrive on all platforms tomorrow.” No official release time has been given, however, fans are expecting them to go live pretty soon. The twisted warriors were last seen as part of Operation: Shadow Debt and usually drop some great mods to farm. Acolytes usually pop up in random locations and start stalking the players, with some of the top mods dropping in the past. “The Stalker has found others as twisted as himself. He calls them his Acolytes and he’s sent them after ME?” last year’s description reads. “SHHH. I have to be very quiet, they cloak, they could be hiding anywhere… listening to this. “I’m calling in my favor. Break into Corpus and Grineer installations and steal their security data. “With enough data, I can determine their cloaking patterns and turn the tables on These…betrayers.” 20 new Event Mods were launched last year, which could be earned as drops from defeating Acolytes or by playing the bonus final challenger mission. As mentioned above, Acolytes move around to try and escape the hunting tactics of the Tenno – so be prepared to seek them out across many planets. The event duration last year was set for however long it took the community to kill the 5 Acolytes, with another 3 Days for the final challenger mission. No details on the structure of this year’s Warframe event have been given yet, but should be shared soon. A new Warframe Eidolon update is arriving today on PC – later on PS4 and Xbox One – which will make some changes to Bounties. PC players can look forward to the launch of Operation Plague Star today, a new limited time event with special rewards. But something Tennos might not have expected is a change to how bounties work being launched along with it. Digital Extremes confirmed the news this week, revealing how they wanted to switch things up when it comes to Bounties and rewards. “We are making changes to the way Bounties reward you,” the Eidolon statement explains. “This new system is a take on the ‘AABC’ rotation system we have in endless missions, but applied to Bounties using the Common, Uncommon, and Rare rewards. “Maybe you heard about this on the Devstream 100 – you probably did. Lots of people have been asking ‘WHEN’ for this, and I’m happy to say it’s coming with tomorrow’s Update on PC. Unfortunately for console Tenno, there’s no current ETA yet on when this might arrive, only that it will be launching in the future. Here’s how the reward for every stage of the Bounty is completed: Second and more technical: “The tier of reward you get is determined by how many stages are in the given Bounty. The Common/Uncommon/Rare tier are signified by colour in the reward manifest Bronze/Silver/Gold.” 3 Stage Bounties: 4 Stage Bounties: 5 Stage Bounties: Third: “Slightly re-balanced the quantities of some of the rewards as we tested numerous Bounties with these changes. Right now this only applies to select items. “Plains of Eidolon specific reward quantities are untouched (i.e it could be possible to get 25 x Breath of the Eidolon in a single 5 Stage Bounty or 10 6 Cetus Wisps in a 5 Stage Bounty).” OPERATION PLAGUE STAR: As mentioned above, Operation Plague Star is launching today on PC, offering new rewards until November 27. Here’s more information on what it is: “A mysterious meteorite has crashed just outside of Cetus revealing a horrific boil. The boil is growing and the Ostrons have sighted infested lifeforms emerging from it. We need to act now before they make their way to Cetus. “Konzu has received reports that Vay Hek possesses a toxin that can destroy the boil. But Vay Hek won’t help; he sees this infested boil as a means to rid the Plains of Cetus and the Ostrons. “We need to get ahold of the toxin and destroy the boil before it becomes unstoppable. Visit Konzu in Cetus to learn his plan for retrieving the toxin from Vay Hek.” Plague Star Specific Bounty: Completing the series of Bounty Missions will earn you continued OPERATION STANDING to shop for all the Event Rewards! You should to speak to Konzu at Cetus to begin running the Plague Star Bounty. The Plague Star Bounty starts with enemies in the Medium difficulty range, but you can increase the stakes. The more Bounties you complete, the more standing you earn toward something new: Operation Syndicate. Much like the way we used a token system for the Ambulas Reborn event, we have taken that idea one step further. It should be noted that NAKAK, the oddities vendor, represents the OPERATIONAL SUPPLY Syndicate for Operation: Plague Star. REWARDS: RETURNING:

When the PS4 launched on November 15th, 2013, the free-to-play MMO-ish shooter Warframe was available to download. It had debuted on Windows the previous March and came to Xbox in September 2014, yet still sustains a healthy playerbase. The Warframe team has been refining it since, adding content for free. Now, its latest gratis expansion is live on the PS4 version.
Warframe procedurally generates maps whenever a player embarks on new missions. The expansion, Plains of Eidolon, adds a large new area that players share, a la most MMOs. While it probably won’t compare with grander paid, games, the new content might be worth looking into if Destiny 2 is no longer scratching your sci-fi shooter itch.

Having already landed on PC earlier this year, the new Warframe: Plains of Eidolon expansion looks set to arrive on PS4 and Xbox One very soon.
Developers Digital Extremes have confirmed that they are now reaching the final phase of the launch program for consoles.
This could mean that a release will arrive later this week, or in the next seven days.
“Tenno, you are that much closer to taking your first steps out in the Plains of Eidolon, catching your first fish, and taking your first flight with your Sky Archwing,” a message from Digital Extremes teases.
“The console team, in impressive speed, has sent the Plains of Eidolon update build off to cert!
“We want to take this time to thank you all for your patience as the console team worked to bring you the best version of the Plains of Eidolon.
“Your continued support and understanding has motivated us in ways we cannot fully explain. We can say with full confidence that this is the most ecstatic we’ve been to deliver you an update, and we can’t wait to see you explore all that it has to offer.
“With that said, let’s get into the details! This update is a juicy one that includes everything from Hydroid Prime 21.7.1 to Plains of Eidolon 22.1.0.1!
“Best of all it includes a host of fixes and changes (especially in regards to Cetus economy balancing), making it a wonderfully refined and well-rounded version of the initial PC release of Plains of Eidolon. “
As mentioned above, the Warframe Plains of Eidolon expansion is now in the console certification process on both Xbox One and PS4.
And while the development team have yet to confirm a launch date or time, a new update has been confirmed for this week.
“We have scheduled roughly 30 minutes of maintenance downtime for public hubs on Xbox One and PS4.
“This includes Relays, Dojos, Iron Wake, and Maroo’s Bazaar. During this time access to these hubs may be restricted – If you are able to enter you will find that they are not populated by other players. Regular mission gameplay will not be affected by this maintenance.”
This new maintenance will happen on the following dates:
This will in all likelihood not be the big Plains of Eidolon expansion but could prove to be an important step to letting players gain access.
Here’s some of what will be included in the new Warframe update:
Plains of Eidolon:
The Ostrons and the town of Cetus:
New Quest: Saya’s Vigil!
New Warframe: Gara, Manipulator of Glass! Similarly to the PC release, console players who purchase Gara, either alone or in her bundle, will receive a veiled Riven Mod to pump up their Arsenal upon completing the quest for the first time.
New Weapons:
Mod sets: Each set focuses on 1 of following 3 styles of combat: ability casting (Augur), gunning (Vigilante), and melee (Gladiator). Stats for these Mods increase on Rank and have an added stat bonus if equipped with Mods from the same set.
New Achievements:
Warframe’s Baro Ki Teer will be arriving soon from his latest hiatus, giving PS4, Xbox One and PC players another chance of grabbing some interesting gear.
The latest shipment of goods should arrive around 2pm UK time, with the Concourse sections of the Tenno Relays the usual place to find him.
Baro usually only sticks around for 48hrs, meaning that players need to be quick to get anything they find interesting.
Players will have until Sunday, although anyone wanting to know the exact time left can always check out Baro’s kiosk, which will have a countdown timer indicating when he’ll be leaving.
Tracking down the Void Trader is never that tough, players can check out their in-game inbox, which will include a message from Baro, revealing which system he can be found in.
The Warframe market stock available changes between visits, so it’s always worth checking out what’s bee included in his latest visit.
Ducats are required to make payments, which are a unique currency acquired by exchanging Prime parts.
These can be found at special Ducat Kiosks in the Relays, allowing for Prime weapon, Warframe components, and Blueprints to be exchanged.
A heavy amount of credits will also be needed to complete purchases, although that’s no where near as difficult as collecting the Prime parts.
Fans will need to wait until later today to find out what exactly is being offered up, it should also be noted that gear differs between PC and consoles.
This article will be updated when we find out exactly what is being offered up in Warframe this week.
It follows the big release of the Chains of Harrow expansion Xbox One and PS4, earlier this week.
The new Warframe patch required for the game to be re-downloaded on Xbox One, due to Digital Extremes making some serious changes behind the scenes.
As mentioned above, not only does the new Warframe update include new content, it also sees the game provide faster load times.
The official Chains of Harrow expansion description paints a horror-setting for players to explore, teasing: “With Chains of Harrow, Warframe players (AKA Tenno) will descend into a haunting new quest.
“In response to a disturbing transmission from Palladino, the Red Veil Clan’s spiritual medium, Tenno are compelled to investigate a dark, mysteriously abandoned Steel Meridian spacecraft found adrift.
“Inside the vessel, lights flicker and emergency lights strobe, revealing bodies of dead crew members. All is quiet except for whispers heard echoing throughout the lifeless craft.
“What does it all mean? Players must uncover the terrifying reality of what happened onboard, how the Red Veil might play a part in it, and more.”
The Warframe Harrow expansion is already available on PC and will now be making its way to PS4 and Xbox One.
The support team at Digital Extremes confirmed the news earlier this week, although no set time has been confirmed.
However, while the PS4 launch will be a relatively normal update, The Chains of Harrow expansion launch on Xbox One will include a serious download.
Essentially, the new Warframe patch will require for the game to be re-downloaded on Xbox One, this is due to Digital Extremes making some serious changes behind the scenes.
“The Chains of Harrow update will be a remaster build,” a message from the Extremes support team explains.
“What makes this build so special, you ask? Well, we did a little summer cleaning and removed old game assets that are no longer in use to free up hard disc space (~21 GB disc space vs. ~46 GB disc space).
“We also rearranged all existing assets into optimal locations to speed up load times.
“What does this mean for you guys? To bring you all these awesome optimizations, the Chains of Harrow update will require Warframe to be re-downloaded.
“The good news is that half the size means half the download time, and for all of you new to Warframe on XB1 this means the download will be speedy!
“And for all you existing XB1 players, the update will simply download in the background.”
As mentioned above, not only will the new Warframe update include new content, it will also see the game provide faster load times.

HARROW PATCH NOTES:
“Chains of Harrow is loaded with additional content — from new enemies and weapons to new cosmetics, Captura tiles, an Octavia Instrument Pack, and more.”
Warframe’s first Open Zone will allow Tenno to explore, fight, journey and fly through the open Landscapes of Planet Earth in their own time, in their own way.
That was the big reveal during Tennocon today, confirming that the upcoming Plains of Eidolon expansion will make some big changes to the game’s core gameplay.
The new Warframe open world expansion includes a new open world landscape, populated with both familiar and never-before seen creatures, enemies, a new Warframe, a day/night cycle, and a new story told through interactive NPC characters in the city of Cetus.
The biggest sell will be that players will be able to see foot in the Plains of the Eidolon with the freedom to explore it on their own terms. This will mean Cetus supporting up to 50 players, with players than venturing out in groups of one to four.
Although no release date was confirmed today, Digital Extremes has confirmed that the new exansion will be released in 2017.
Cetus is a makeshift basecamp for scavengers known as Ostrons who’ve made The Bleeding Tower their home, with a new Warframe and new weapons available to earn
“We have announced big things for Warframe at TennoCon before but nothing like this. Adding Landscapes is a huge leap that we’ve been working on for some time,” said Steve Sinclair, creative director of Warframe.
“Plains of Eidolon is our first step in adding a new kind of player freedom to the game. We wanted to give our players something new, something dramatic, and that meant taking risks and evolving the game in a fresh, new direction.
“For veteran players, we’re always trying to give them a living, evolving game. Landscapes is a great example of how we do that.
“If you bounced off Warframe a while ago, this is a very different feel for the game that warrants a second look. We can’t wait to see how people react to this!”
Key features in Plains of Eidolon include:
Landscapes (Open Zones): “Until now, Warframe missions have taken place in relatively closed environments. With the Plains of the Eidolon expansion, players will set foot in a vast natural landscape free to explore on their own terms.”
Meet the Inhabitants of Cetus: “Never before have Tenno encountered the faceless people whose lives they have saved, until now. Meet the Ostrons, a makeshift group of scavengers whose culture revolves around the grotesque harvesting of biomechanical tissue from long dormant Orokin Towers.”
Different Kind of Mission: “In addition to discovering and exploring, players will engage in an assortment of missions to find and assemble new Warframes and weapons, items and more. Expect to strap on Archwing for air travel and battle, and experiment with customizing and modding a Warframe like never before.”
Discover and Explore: “Plains of the Eidolon offers a sense of discovery, variety, and mystery that mixes several different environments and tones to create a deep sense of place. Experience a bristling new world in where the wind rustles across your Syandana and the age and size of giant Orokin structures ominously looms in the background. Earth will be more alive than ever before.”
Another major content drop is coming to the popular free-to-play title, Warframe.
The development team have now confirmed that the Warframe Harrow update launches at 5pm, EST, which is 10pm, BST for players in the UK.
The Warframe Chains of Harrow expansion goes live first on PC – PS4 and Xbox One do not have a current date – and includes the first stage of the planned graphical overhaul of the Solar System.
This new remastering of the game begins with Earth, which sees the first upgrade powered by Digital Extremes’ proprietary Evolution Engine.
The new Warframe is one of the biggest additions to the game, with Harrow wielding “priest-style powers and offers a terrifying new, lore-based quest”.
Harrow boasts four deadly abilities:
As mentioned above, a new quest line has also been added, here’s the official description: “With Chains of Harrow, Warframe players (AKA Tenno) will descend into a haunting new quest resembling a horror film.
“In response to a disturbing transmission from Palladino, the Red Veil Clan’s spiritual medium, Tenno are compelled to investigate a dark, mysteriously abandoned Steel Meridian spacecraft found adrift. Inside the vessel, lights flicker and emergency lights strobe, revealing bodies of dead crew members.
“All is quiet except for whispers heard echoing throughout the lifeless craft. What does it all mean? Players must uncover the terrifying reality of what happened onboard, how the Red Veil might play a part in it, and more.”
Other changes confirmed in the Warframe Harrow update includes:
New Grineer Enemy: “Nox is a new enemy that is part of the Elite Chem Strike Unit. Nox wields a toxin-filled heavy gun that shoots blobs of toxic goo that attach themselves to targets before exploding.
“Take out these gruesome enemies by shooting their glass helmets and exposing their deteriorating skin. Beware of their final moments, as they explode into a lethal cloud.”
New Weapons:
New Syandana: “A “priestly” addition, the Nave Syandana completes Harrow’s iconic look.”
Other Changes: “Check out the new Captura Tiles (Forest tiles), Octavia’s Anthem-related Instrument Pack (Corpus & Grineer Packs), Glaive and Melee Rework (all melee throwing weapons can be used concurrently with secondary weapons), Alt-Helm, new Riven Mods for Melee Weapons, and more.”
