“And she basically checks her bills, saves spare coppers in a jar, she keeps her coppers in a giant whiskey bottle,” Louise continued.

“She’s from Northern Ireland, asked if she was a saver or a spender she said, ‘It’s kind of hard to say we save now because the bank is full of money but I still have a sensible attitude towards it.’”

“Not quite the same levels of cash but look at this,” Dan said.

“This is Peter Coleman here and he managed to get his mitts on this £10 note whee the Queen is faceless.”

RELATED STORIES

Walker is coming up on an unfortunate milestone: This Thursday’s episode (The CW, 8/7c) marks the one-year anniversary of Emily Walker’s death.

The Texas Ranger hasn’t been dealing with his wife’s passing very well, and the anniversary will, naturally, bring up even more emotions for the widowed father. “He definitely goes on a journey of grief within this episode, and a lot of it is about exploring those stages as the episode unfolds,” showrunner Anna Fricke previews. “I feel like even though he’s been home for these first five episodes, he hasn’t really been present, and he hasn’t really been processing. This is the beginning of him stepping out of that fog and seeing who his kids are and what they need, and dealing with his own emotions about Emily, about the death of Emily, and this sentimental space, the Side Step, and what that means to them.” (Geri’s thinking of selling the bar, so you can expect Walker to have plenty of thoughts about that choice.)

While Walker is mourning his wife, his brother Liam and his boss Captain James are digging into the strange circumstances surrounding Emily’s murder and the man who confessed to killing her. “They are starting to feel like something is not quite right, and so they’re going to further go down that road, looking into Carlos Mendoza,” Fricke shares. And they will continue to keep Walker in the dark about what they’re up to, “which is going to be a huge betrayal, because they were the ones who were so adamantly telling him to back off and to stop looking into it and stop chasing ghosts, and now that they’ve discovered that something is awry, they want to protect Walker until they have real information. But there’s just no clean way for them to do this. When the truth comes out, it’s not going to be easy.”

Walker SpoilersElsewhere, Micki gets an unexpected visit from her mother Adriana (played by Telenovela‘s Alex Meneses), who is actually in town because of Walker. “She’s a court-approved psychologist whose job is to question those in law enforcement for excessive force and to give them mental assessments. So she’s here to question Walker and his actions,” Fricke reveals.

Adriana might just be doing her job, but “she and Micki have a very fraught relationship, so Micki is furious that her mother has inserted herself into her partnership,” Fricke continues. However, “as the dynamic between mother and daughter unfolds in the episode, Micki actually sort of learns something from her mother, and Walker learns something, as well.”

Elsewhere:

CBS | A Young Sheldon rerun drew Thursday’s largest audience, with 4.6 million viewers. The Unicorn (3.1 mil/0.4) and Star Trek: Disco‘s Season 1 broadcast finale (1.63 mil/0.2) were steady.

THE CW | Walker (1.9 mil/0.3) and Legacies (635K/0.2, TVLine reader grade “A-“; read musical post mortem) were steady in the demo, though each dropped a handful of eyeballs.

NBC | Mr. Mayor (3 mil/0.5) dipped, Superstore (2.2 mil/0.4) was steady.

The Live+Same Day numbers reported in our ratings column do not reflect a show’s overall performance, given the increased use of delayed playback via DVR and streaming platforms, plus out-of-home viewing. These numbers (Nielsen fast nationals, unless denoted as finals) instead aim to simply illustrate trends or superlatives.

Dan Walker baffled as he speaks on ‘weird relationship’ with Mike Bushell on BBC Breakfast https://briefnews.eu/dan-walker-baffled-as-he-speaks-on-weird-relationship-with-mike-bushell-on-bbc-breakfast/ https://briefnews.eu/dan-walker-baffled-as-he-speaks-on-weird-relationship-with-mike-bushell-on-bbc-breakfast/#respond Sat, 23 Jan 2021 10:49:19 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/dan-walker-baffled-as-he-speaks-on-weird-relationship-with-mike-bushell-on-bbc-breakfast/

Dan Walker, 43, doesn’t usually host weekend instalments of BBC Breakfast but he featured on Saturday’s programme to discuss what was coming up on Football Focus later on in the day. To do this, he spoke with Mike, 55, as he was the co-star who had the most amount of knowledge on the headlines emitting from the sporting arena. However, when the former Strictly Come Dancing star came to introduce his BBC colleague, he got his name wrong by calling his co-star “dad”.

After teasing his colleague’s appearance on the show, Mike said: “Good morning, dad. I mean Dan, not dad.”

This left the sports reporter humiliated as he let out a nervous laugh and Dan also found the moment hilarious.

“Hold on a minute, that would be a weird relationship, wouldn’t it?” the Football Focus host said as he was left baffled by the remark.

“Yes, good morning, son,” he replied as he continued the joke before going on to speak about what was coming up on the sport’s show.

However, he had to stop his train of thought as he was still distracted by the blunder, adding: “Took me a while to get over that one, Michael.”

Dan managed to compose himself enough to continue with the rest of the segment but he couldn’t help but bring up the blunder once again at the end.

“Mike, if I am your father, I want you in bed by eight o’clock tonight, please” the presenter joked, before adding: “But you can watch Football Focus at midday.”

“And Match of the Day, can I stay up for that?” the sports reporter asked as he carried on the comical tone of the conversation.

Realising he was also covering the late-night programme, Dan said: “Oh, yes. You’ll be fully bored with me by the end of the day today.”

“I look up to Dan, literally,” the sports reporter quipped, with Charlie going on to label each member of the team as an individual in a family setup.

The host asked who weatherman Tomasz Schafernaker, 42, would fit into their family but the forecaster didn’t listen to the full conversation.

“Sorry, I was absolutely miles away,” he remarked, asking Charlie to clarify what they were actually talking about.

“How far are we going to back in this story?” the host jibed, before referencing how Mike got Dan’s name wrong.

Introducing the weather report, Louise continued: “Carol has been so sweet to me, we’ve been in touch.

“I really appreciated your messages and yours Dan but particularly Carol’s.”

“I was going to say,” Dan hit back. “Don’t out me, I did ask if you were okay.”

“Well, let’s join these little fellas, who’ve started already! Aren’t they gorgeous?” Sally commented in reference to the clip of the penguins.

“That’s the London aquarium where penguins, they’ve been a bit bored during lockdown because it’s been so quiet, they’ve been watching Christmas films.”

“They are watching one of the King’s of Christmas films; Elf,” Dan explained and Sally interjected: “Not one of, best one ever, top one!”

“You know everyone says It’s a Wonderful Life is a Christmas film and actually, it’s only Christmas right at the very end,” Dan told viewers.

“So how do you qualify for a Christmas film? We were saying earlier, I say Die Hard is a Christmas film, but I know other people get very agitated.”

Some BBC Breakfast viewers agreed with the CEO as one tweeted: “Not often I agree with O’Leary but on this occasion I do. Anyone that’s been booking flights this year to travel must’ve known the risk of cancellation or travel restrictions.”

Another asked: “Why should they be refunded for a service that is still being provided?”

While someone else slammed the policy and tweeted: “My parents weren’t offered anything, just told the flight was going, if you cancel you get nothing. They are both in their 70s and didn’t want to risk their health or quarantine on return. I couldn’t believe their attitude.”

“Had a feeling this would happen. And all those people from spring who used their vouchers on later flights thinking they would be fine now lose out and Ryanair keep their cash,” another added.

BBC Breakfast viewers ‘switch off’ after Walker and Eustice migrant row: ‘Very fed up’ https://briefnews.eu/bbc-breakfast-viewers-switch-off-after-walker-and-eustice-migrant-row-very-fed-up/ https://briefnews.eu/bbc-breakfast-viewers-switch-off-after-walker-and-eustice-migrant-row-very-fed-up/#respond Wed, 28 Oct 2020 20:16:34 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/bbc-breakfast-viewers-switch-off-after-walker-and-eustice-migrant-row-very-fed-up/

The Environment Secretary joined Louise Minchin and Dan Walker via video link this morning on BBC Breakfast to face questions about the Government’s coronavirus response and the news that yesterday was the “deadliest day” for migrants crossing the channel seeking refuge. It was reported yesterday that four people had died while attempting to cross the channel with the search still ongoing. Dan suggested this was as a result of a “failure of policy”, something Mr Eustice was keen to dismiss.

Kicking off the interview, Dan told the Conservative Party MP: “I wanted to start by talking about the deadliest day of attempted channel crossings yesterday,

“The search we understand goes on this morning. We’ve spoken to a number of guests this morning and most recently, the accusation was this is down to a Government failure of policy.”

Mr Eustice replied: “Well, look, I don’t accept that. This is a terrible tragedy and obviously, our thoughts and prayers are with those who’d been affected.

“This is a terrible phenomenon of people trying to make this dangerous crossing, usually being lured by callous gangs that take their money then send them on a dangerous crossing.”

The MP continued: “There’s been some 3,000 interceptions of these crossings by French authorities and by the UK as well.

“We work very closely with the French. We need to do two things to address this. One is to remove the incentive for people to make this dangerous crossing in the first place by ensuring they are returned if they do come across,

“But secondly, and this is the bit that has had a tremendous amount of work done on, is intercepting these vessels.”

However, Dan was clearly dissatisfied with Mr Eustice’s response and put to him again the tragedy was a direct result of a Government failure of policy.

The BBC Breakfast host raised the issue of a lack of “safe and legal” routes for migrants to use, suggesting it would result in similar scenes to yesterday.

“I don’t accept that,” Mr Eustice said again once more but as he continued to emphasise the UK’s work in trying to prevent such tragedies.

However, Walker ended up cutting the MP off when he claimed once more it wasn’t a failure of policy, with the BBC presenter saying: “With respect, Mr Eustice,

“To go back to that, I understand the priority is to stop people, but surely it’s a priority to stop deaths as well?”

Mr Eustice then repeated the UK and France’s alliance in trying to stop these crossings, putting an end to Walker’s line of questioning.

The two also found themselves butting heads over the Government’s coronavirus response, with Walker again cutting the MP off a handful of times.

However, the tone of the interview certainly left something to be desired among viewers, with several divided and some even saying they had to “switch off”.

“Sorry Dan – turned off,” said one fan. “Switched channel. Very fed up with constant blame game.”

“This was an embarrassment to you @BBCBreakfast,” added a second. “I understand the need to challenge the Government but when someone is talking sense then you need to show some sense please!!”

A third echoed: “@BBCBreakfast another useless interview conducted by #danwalker where he let the MP just talk without challenge.”

While a fourth weighed in: “Another ignorant interview by Dan on a minister doing a job to keep us safe and borders safe which is why we voted them in – turned off after a short time again. Decisions have to be made without any certainty but with best intentions.@BorisJohnson #COVID19.”

“It’s a great gig, and I love it. And from day one Louise made the job really easy,” he continued.

BBC backlash as viewers slam Dan Walker interview with Matt Hancock ‘so frustrating!’ https://briefnews.eu/bbc-backlash-as-viewers-slam-dan-walker-interview-with-matt-hancock-so-frustrating/ https://briefnews.eu/bbc-backlash-as-viewers-slam-dan-walker-interview-with-matt-hancock-so-frustrating/#respond Wed, 19 Aug 2020 20:27:40 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/bbc-backlash-as-viewers-slam-dan-walker-interview-with-matt-hancock-so-frustrating/

BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker was the one who took charge of the interview with Matt Hancock this morning as he probed the Health Secretary over the Government’s latest response to the coronavirus pandemic. On the agenda for Walker were topics such as local lockdowns, the progression of track and trace and fines for those flouting lockdown. However, despite cutting Mr Hancock off during a debate about Leicester’s lockdown, BBC viewers felt Walker could’ve grilled the MP further.

There were a number of talking points to take away from Mr Hancock’s interview on BBC Breakfast this morning.

Arguably one the biggest, however, came when Walker probed the Health Secretary about the test and system and its efficiency.

Mr Hancock told BBC Breakfast: “Yes, the test and trace system is working very effectively,

“We set a goal that by the start of september, we should be able to reach 80 percent of the contacted positive cases, last week that figure was 79.7”

Other issues to catch the eye of viewers was Mr Hancock’s optimism surrounding Leicester’s response to the local lockdown – despite the fact places like Oldham may be entering similar scenarios of their own.

Mr Hancock also detailed to Walker his plans for “strengthening fines and enforcement available” against those flouting lockdown.

The MP revealed there were plans to “double” the toughness of the current fines.

Mr Hancock signed off the interview by defending the appointment of Dido Harding as “the best person who could be doing her job now”.

A third weighed in: “Dan I really like your work and I know you want to keep the govt coming on to @BBCBreakfast,

“But sometimes you have to be tougher. Today @MattHancock got away with murder – simple deflection and mispresentation of facts. It’s dispiriting to watch.”

While a fourth brutally added: “@BBCBreakfast Dan Walker demonstrates in his interview with Matt Hancock that he is a sports reporter, nothing else.”

With a fifth tweeting: “Where @BBCBreakfast fall down is they don’t go in for the kill. Dan should maybe have asked “Why is she absolutely the best person, given her long record of failure in previous jobs? Perhaps he should’ve also listed them.”
