Last week saw Robert Preston (played by Tristan Gemmill) humiliated after Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) exposed his sordid affair with Vicky Jeffries (Kerri Quinn), interrupting their wedding to read out texts he had sent to Vicky in front of their family and friends. But Vicky has been missing ever since and police have now found Vicky’s blood on a vase, leading them to believe that Robert has killed the mother of his child.

In a one-hour episode last night, Robert was left in hot water as the police came snooping, asking questions about the disappearance of Vicky.

It’s not been an easy ride for any of them, Robert and Vicky started their secret romance months ago as Robert continued seeing Michelle and even proposing. 

It all kicked off though when Michelle found out about the lies and the sordid love affair and Robert swore blind that he would never see Vicky again, whilst continuing the affair. 

But Michelle couldn’t be fooled forever and chose to humiliate Robert in the most dramatic way, at the altar of their wedding.

Standing at the altar Michelle told their friends and family: “This, in case any of you were wondering, these are messages from Robert’s lover, sorry finance Vicky.

“She very kindly sent me these messages to rub my nose in it so you might have seen her on the street seven months pregnant with his kid.”

But now pregnant Vicky is missing and people are starting to ask questions. 

Not only this, but Vicky’s neighbour heard screaming coming from the pregnant woman’s house after Robert told Michelle he would “deal with it”.

Robert looked horrified, but has he been caught or is he being set up? Viewers were quick to post their conspiracy theories on Twitter. 

One said: “@itvcorrie I think Michelle and Vicky have set Robert up between them……think vickys fine and they’re taking revenge by getting him locked up and losing everything  #corrie.”

“They’ve all set you up Robert lad, never cross a woman….nevermind 2 #corrie.” another advised. 

Another said: “Wow Michelle and Vicky are really going to stitch Robert up with attempted murder #corrie.”

“I still think Michelle and that Vicky are in it together. Setting up Robert #Corrie.” said another concerned fan.

The actress, who also appeared in The Replacement, has been asked about the prospect in several interviews, which has only heightened the rumours.

“I’ve lapped it up – why not?” she told The Sun.

“This rumour is a very funny thing to have happened.”

Still, she doesn’t seem to fancy her chances of landing the gig.

“A Nottingham girl playing Bond is never going to happen in a million years,” she added.

“But it would be genius if it did, wouldn’t it?”

The first ever James Bond was seemingly nearly a female actress, until the part eventually went to Sean Connery.

For now, it’s not known whether Daniel Craig will return as James Bond for another film, after previously starring in four.

Thirty-three-year-old Vicky McClure shows star quality in her turn as Paula in BBC’s The Replacement

The Replacement, the BBC psychological thriller that reaches its white-knuckle climax tonight, pits a pregnant architect against the woman who is hired to cover for her while she takes time off to have a baby.

The show’s genius lies in its success in keeping us guessing as to whether Ellen Rooney (the mother-to-be) is a paranoid careerist out to ensure that the temp doesn’t become permanent, or Paula Reece (her replacement) is a manipulative back-stabber with the aims and ambitions of a cuckoo in the nest.

Whatever the outcome a new star has been born in the form of Vicky McClure, the 33-year-old from Nottingham who plays Paula.

Not even an invitation from Madonna to appear in her 2008 comedy-drama Filth And Wisdom was enough to kick-start things.

While McClure got to travel in the pop queen’s private jet, the movie was a turkey with one critic observing: “Madonna has been a terrible actor in many, many films and now she has graduated to being a terrible director.”

Things began looking up for McClure in 2014 when she landed the part of DC Kate Fleming in the BBC police corruption drama Line Of Duty, which is about to embark on its fourth series.

Now McClure has consolidated her position in The Replacement, which is attracting an audience of millions thanks to its addictive levels of suspense. It amounts to just rewards for the daughter of a joiner who initially had ambitions to become a ballerina.

After “weak ankles” ruled out this option she turned to acting and was just 16 when she was cast by Shane Meadows, a Nottingham-based former petty criminal who turned himself into a social realism film-maker, in low-budget movie A Room For Romeo Brass. This led to a leading role in Meadows’ Channel 4 series This Is England.

“It didn’t bring me overnight fame and fortune,” McClure said last year. “I still had to work in an office. I worked in an office in Nottingham called Direct Valuations up until six years ago. I did everything from HR to filling up the vending machine.

“They were fantastic because they’d always give me time off for auditions but I had a regular income. If you want to be an actor you have to accept you have to do a proper job too for the money.” 

She added: “I was working at my desk when I got the call from Madonna’s people to do Filth And Wisdom. She wanted me because she said Romeo Brass was her favourite movie. I didn’t even have an agent so I had to negotiate my own fee and terms.

“It was completely surreal. One minute I’m getting on a private plane with her and literally the next day I’m being asked to fill up the hot chocolate in the vending machine. I loved switching between two worlds.”

Apart from a brief stint in London when she was 20 McClure has remained loyal to Nottingham, where she lives with her boyfriend, Bafta-winning actor and director Jonny Owen. They met when she co-starred alongside him in his 2013 movie Svengali.

Asked if she wanted to marry and have children she said: “One hundred per cent. I know I’ve met the man I want to be with for ever. I know I want to have kids.”

She may have second thoughts on the subject after her harrowing role as Paula in The Replacement. From the moment the drama begins, tension builds at the fashionable firm of Glasgow architects where Paula is to take over the responsibilities of Ellen, a senior executive who has just landed a lucrative commission to build a modernist library.

The new arrival offers to work for free months before Ellen is due to go on leave. When she follows up this move with an unauthorised meeting with the client, unannounced site visits and even modifications to the design, Ellen becomes seriously unnerved. It helps that Ellen, played by Morven Christie, is the perfect victim.

When the two characters meet for the first time she is a bundle of insecurities. Following the death of her mother six years earlier Ellen had struggled to cope and resorted to therapy to deal with depression.

After treatment Ellen started dating Ian, the psychiatrist who had seen her through the dark days, and he eventually became her husband and the father of her child. But she fears that Ian still sees her as the fragile woman he first met.

Writer and director Joe Ahearne says: “She watches what’s going on around her and sees evidence everywhere she looks that she’s being undermined. Everyone can identify with the anxiety of seeing someone do their job as well or better than you. The pang when a colleague invites another colleague for lunch and doesn’t tell you.

“Most of us have the secret fear that we’re not good enough and feel envy when we see others navigating professional and social situations more suavely than we think we can manage. The Replacement turns that up to 11. The fact it’s a pregnant woman going through this intensifies the dilemma. Women get attacked from every side when they make decisions about how to manage the change in their life. It’s the perfect landscape for paranoia and suspense.”

All Paula’s machinations are cloaked in the most saccharine of motives but we are invited to question them all the same. Matters come to a head when Kay, one half of the husband-and-wife team who founded the practice, plunges to her death from an upper floor of the half-built library after arranging to meet Ellen there, her final words on the phone being: “Things have got really s****y here. I finally know what’s been going on.”

Despite this, and the fact that Ellen heard a clang and a scream as Kay fell, the police conclude she committed suicide, possibly because she suspected her husband was having an affair. In the days that follow Ellen observes Paula’s buttering-up of her office colleagues from the seclusion of a glass-walled office.

This may offer her the privacy to make phone calls and hold meetings but also means she witnesses interactions outside it with the sound off. Her paranoia levels escalate. Ellen becomes more and more convinced her replacement is not what she seems.

Who is Paula’s mysterious former colleague Georgia and why does she abruptly change her mind about a meeting? Why does Paula make a nocturnal visit to see Kay’s widower and why is her lipstick in his bathroom?

What did Paula’s partner Kieran mean when he asked Ian: “How do you persuade someone they need help? Someone who has a problem accepting reality?” We will discover the answers to all these questions and more this evening.

The broadcaster also revealed that the series will be moving channel and into a new time slot. 

After impressive viewing figures for previous seasons, bosses have decided that the show deserves the Sunday night slot on One. 

The drama, which follows DS Kate Fleming and her team will return to television screens on March 26 at 9pm. 

The BBC confirmed the news on the official Line of Duty Twitter account, much to delight of fans. 

The series, which has already been renewed for a fifth outing, welcomes Thandie Newton to the cast as DCI Roz Huntley.

Her character will fall under suspicion of AC-12 due to her handling of intense case, Operation Trapdoor. 

The news comes after Vicky, who plays DS Kate, said that there was “pressure” on the show to perform well and attract a large number of viewers. 

“There was always going to be pressure for it to be good, even if it was staying on BBC Two,” she told the Daily Star. 

“There’s an anticipation to make sure we keep the same standard. Hopefully we’ve done that. Jed Mercurio is an incredible writer. 

“There is a real style now on Line of Duty with the long interrogation scenes. He manages to build tension in a way that really grips.”

The actress also revealed that as the stars receive their scripts in stages. 

Line of Duty returns on March 26 on BBC One at 9pm.

This Alton Towers rollercoaster survivor struggled with depression and suicide after she lost her right leg in June 2015. Despite that traumatic ordeal she suffered two years ago, Vicky comes back with a brand new image and bravely confronts society and its norms as she redefines the new word for sexy.

Vicky Balch’s new message

The 21-year-old may have had it rough, but that incident didn’t stop her from sending a clear message on body acceptance and confidence. This brave act by Vicky has been a great inspiration to others who may feel unhappy and ashamed of their own bodies. She looked marvelous in the photoshoot and was eager to show her battle scars to the world.

Ryan Lea, studio manager for the Andrew Wood Photography told the Manchester Evening News, “It was amazing how confident she was during the shoot. She was clearly so comfortable and loved every minute of it. The pictures have come out really well and are tastefully done.”

Vicky Balch’s series of naked photos wasn’t at all obscene or indecent; it had the right amount of flavor to give a whole new meaning to the word “sexy” even with a missing leg. By the way, those photos were also unedited because she wants them unchanged and to let the people know she’s “been through a hell of a lot.”

The struggle was real

The aftermath was especially hard for Vicky Balch as soon as she found out her leg was amputated. Her devastation became so bad that it reached to the point in which she considered killing herself, as she realized her life would never be the same again.

“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t consider suicide at my lowest points. In the beginning, especially, there are days when I didn’t want to be here anymore. I’d think, ‘What’s the point? I’m not going to be able to live my life to the full or love my life ever again.’” Vicky shared in an interview with Sunday People.

Her self-esteem was so low then that she had a hard time accepting herself and getting intimate with her boyfriends. Although she was seen making out with one of her dates in Romford, Essex, in August 2016, her relationships were mostly short, not lasting for more than a couple of months.

“It wasn’t nice really because I didn’t feel sexy. I was very self-conscious and very aware. It brings the mood and I’d prefer the lights off,” she said.

She admitted her confidence issue was one of the main reasons why her relationships didn’t work in the past. However, she is hopeful that the right man will come along in the future.

Her mission to inspire more

Many were positively inspired by her endeavors, including a letter from an 18-year-old teenager with terminal cancer who thanked her for being brave and persevering throughout.

“I know I’m doing it for a greater good. If I can show my scars off and it helps one person then it’s worth a thousand horrible messages or tweets. I am doing it for attention, but it’s not for me,” she added.

Currently, the former beauty student is optimistic for the future ahead by making a step-by-step difference. She hopes her photos will bring about a change in building confidence and being sexy. Vicky plans to start a career in TV presenting as her next project.

“I’m never going to be the carefree girl I once was, but I’m a lot stronger for it and I want to inspire others,” she told Sunday People.
