A new Vauxhall Insignia model variant has been revealed in the UK.

This new car is set to sit at the top of the range and has been fitted with a more powerful engine.

It gains a 1.6-litre Direct Injection Turbo with Gasoline Particulate Filter. The four-cylinder engine produces 200PS and develops 280Nm of torque.

Vauxhall is offering the car in Grand Sport and Sports Tourer body styles and in Grand Sport guise to can achieve a top speed of 146mph and go from 0-60mph in 7.2 seconds.

Fuel economy for this model variant is rated at 44.8mpg and it produced 146g/km of CO2 emissions.

The car meets the new strict Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard and the Gasoline Particulate Filter fitted helps filter out harmful emissions from the engine and exhaust.

It comes with a number of flagship features such as adaptive cruise control, IntelliLux LED matrix headlights and ergonomic seats.

Inside the car, the infotainment setup can be updated to the Multimedia and Multimedia Navi Pro infotainment systems.

The display at the centre of the dashboard can be specified up to eight-inches in size and drivers can also benefice from a Driver Information Custer.

It can also be specified in conjunction with an optional head-up display in combination with the Multimedia Navi Pro system.

Prices for the car start from £25,610 on-the-road for the Insignia Grand Sport SRi VX-Line Nav with the new 1.6-litre Direct Injection Turbo engine.

The 5.56mm M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle has remained a favorite rifle of the Marine Corps for the better part of this decade.

Based on the Heckler & Koch HK416 assault rifle and adopted in 2011 to replace the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon, it’s widely considered more versatile and accurate over a longer range than the average weapon — so much so that the Corps has even discussed replacing every infantry Marine’s M4 carbine with an IAR variant in coming years.

Now, it seems the beloved M27 is getting a deadly update. The Corps is reportedly testing a specialized version of the IAR, the M38 Squad Designated Marksman Rifle, according to photos published by the Department of Defense. (Distinct from a sniper, who is typically trained to operate independently, the squad designated marksman moves with his infantry fireteam and fulfills its sharpshooting needs.)

Adapting an M27 variant for that role could be a major step towards broader adoption across the Corps.

DoD photos published in early December show Marines with 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment conducting live-fire weapons exercises with the M38 at Camp Lejeune on Dec. 8.

Soldier Systems first surfaced the photos late last month, identifying the weapon’s optics as a Leupold TS-30A2 Mark 4 2.5-8x36mm Mid-Range/Tactical Illuminated Reticle Scope, a vast improvement over the fixed 3.5x magnification of the Trijicon TA11SDO-CP Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight (ACOG) sights atop the M27s that the Corps has previously tested.

The new optics aren’t the only added muscle tacked onto these IARs. Each M38 appears to be decked out with a suppressor to cut muzzle noise.

The Marines have already experimented with suppressing all the weapons in a deployed infantry company, so they know it can be done. But in an era where Secretary of Defense (and mythologized former devil dog) James Mattis says more conventional troops will be doing more special-ops-style work, there are other interesting possibilities, too.

Last June, the Corps carved out an “uber squad” in Camp Lejeune’s 1st Battalion, 6th Marines for a 18- to 20-month experiment with… suppressor-equipped M27s, as well as Ops-Core helmets typically reserved for U.S. special operations forces.

So is the Corps turning all Marine infantrymen into operators? Not exactly. But the Marines sure seem interested in giving more of them the flexible capabilities that a 17-year-old, broadening War on Terror so often demands.

“In Iraq, the daily routine of patrolling in dense urban areas demonstrated a need for fast, but precision rifle fire against fleeting targets,” Joseph Trevithick writes in The War Zone. “In Afghanistan, militants often initiated engagements beyond the effective range of standard infantry weapons, especially those without magnifying optics. Repurposing the M27 with a new scope is a relatively easy way to provide this type of capability.”

And don’t forget: It’s still, like, a squad machine gun, even if it doesn’t immediately look the part. Some of the first Marine automatic riflemen to receive M27s noted, for example, that the M27’s upper and lower receiver profile blend in nicely with everybody else’s M4s — so “if you come into contact, the enemy won’t know who the machine gunner is,” one satisfied grunt told Marine Corps Times back in 2012.

So maybe there’s a new corollary coming to the old maxim, “Every Marine is a rifleman”: With the M27/M38, it’s possible every rifleman is a machine-gunner and sniper, too.

The Marine Corps and Heckler & Koch did not immediately respond to request for additional information. We will update this story with new details as they become available.

As a Land Rover, the Discovery is already a versatile package. It’s capable on the street or in the dirt, it has a family-friendly three-row package, and it offers luxury appeal. But Land Rover also has been known to expand beyond the typical use case for the Discovery, first as a drone-equipped disaster relief vehicle, then as a food truck with a crockpot in the engine bay and a toaster in the center console. Now the Disco is grabbing a clipboard and prepping its GPS for delivery routes as it tackles another new job: commercial cargo van.

The Discovery Commercial, as it is officially known, is basically a rear-seat-delete package. The front cabin remains essentially the same as in the normal Discovery, but right behind the front seats is a partition cage. The second and third rows have been removed, opening up a useful cargo-hold area in back. The load area is 64.4 inches long, 37.0 inches high, and 55.6 inches wide. Land Rover claims it can swallow items as big as 39.3 inches by 28.9 inches. Unlike many cargo vehicles, which replace rear windows with metal panels, the Discovery keeps its windows but features privacy glass.

The Discovery Commercial comes with a choice of two diesel powertrains, a 240-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a 258-hp 3.0-liter V-6. Both engines can be ordered in S, SE, or HSE trims, while four-wheel drive and an automatic transmission are standard equipment on all models. They also have a two-speed transfer case, an air-spring suspension, and Land Rover’s Terrain Response system. Land Rover claims the Discovery Commercial can tow up to 7716 pounds, which is the legal limit in the U.K.

Just because it’s a work vehicle doesn’t mean this Land Rover is stripped of its niceties. It still has a host of technology, including the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, a power two-piece liftgate, and hill-start assist. Safety remains a focus as well, with adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, and lane-departure warning all included.

In the U.K., the Discovery Commercial starts at the equivalent of about $ 76,100 for the 2.0-liter or $ 78,500 for the 3.0-liter. In the United States, the model is just an idle daydream for our delivery drivers.

A new Nissan Leaf EV is arriving for the 2018 model year. The second-generation electric car eschews the prior model’s dowdy styling and limited 107-mile driving range in favor of a more modern look and a minimum range of 150 miles.

Nissan seems to want to go beyond generational upgrades, however, by expanding the model’s lineup. A longer-range Leaf e+ trim is scheduled to arrive sometime next year with perhaps more than 200 miles of range due to trading the base car’s 40.0-kWh battery pack for a larger, 60.0-kWh unit. Now U.K. publication Autocar is reporting that Nissan also plans to introduce a sport-oriented Leaf variant.

The racier Leaf NISMO concept is expected to be unveiled at this month’s Tokyo auto show. A teaser of the hot hatch reveals that the model adds a hint of flavor to the new Leaf’s handsome but decidedly mainstream exterior design. Marked by a set of chunky split-spoke wheels, a redesigned front fascia, and aggressive side skirts, the NISMO concept reportedly previews a future production model.

While we can’t yet confirm any of the NISMO’s particulars—we’ve reached out to Nissan for comment—we’d be surprised if the vehicle doesn’t feature at least some meaningful chassis differences over its regular counterpart. Needless to say, we’re eager to see if Nissan can produce an EV hot hatch and whether it might even channel some of the spirit of sport-compact icons such as the B13-generation Nissan Sentra SE-R.
