World’s fastest man Usain Bolt has bagged his first goals as a footballer for Central Coast Mariners with two goals during a friendly match as his trial period for the Australian A-League side continues.

The 32-year-old’s hopes of clinching a full-time footie contract down under were boosted when bagged a double against Macarthur South West United on Friday. His first came by scoring 10 minutes into the second half with a left-footed finish after shaking off a defender.

The goal was marked in a style only he could muster – by striking the famous ‘lightning bolt’ pose usually reserved for track victories.

His second came in slightly more fortuitous circumstances as a defensive mixup between keeper and defender saw the ball fall to Bolt, who rolled the ball home into an empty net, before being taken off on 75 minutes.

“My first start and scoring two goals, it’s a good feeling. I’m happy I could come here and show the world I’m improving,” Mail Online reported. “I’m keen to be a Mariner, to play my best and get into the team.”

Jamaican sprint legend Bolt, who still holds the current 9.58 seconds world 100m record, called time on his track career in 2017 and since has cosistently made mention of his intentions to embark on a professional football career.

There were rumors Bolt could have made an appearance for English Premier League club Manchester United, largely eminating from the man himself and owing to his professed love of the club.

In August, Bolt made his debut for the Mariners, coming off the bench during a 6-1 pre-season rout against amateur outfit Central Coast Select.

Usain Bolt net worth: How much is Bolt worth after hanging up his running spikes? https://briefnews.eu/usain-bolt-net-worth-how-much-is-bolt-worth-after-hanging-up-his-running-spikes/ https://briefnews.eu/usain-bolt-net-worth-how-much-is-bolt-worth-after-hanging-up-his-running-spikes/#respond Tue, 27 Feb 2018 09:57:59 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/usain-bolt-net-worth-how-much-is-bolt-worth-after-hanging-up-his-running-spikes/

Usain Bolt is the one of the most famous sportsmen of all time.

The eight-time gold medal Olympian is a true sporting legend and one of the most popular figures of the generation.

He achievements on the track have made him Mr Athletics as the best 100 and 200m sprinter at three separate Olympics.

So how much is the superstar worth?

Usain Bolt net worth?

According to Forbes, as of last year, Bolt was worth around £47m with the majority of that made up from endorsements including his PUMA sponsoship.

He is said to take in a stunning £23.2m a year in endorsements but only £1.7m from race wins.

That is partially down to athletes not getting paid for Olympic and Common Wealth Games victories.

And with Diamond League money prize money averaging at £8,000 a race Bolt has moved to capitalise on his profile.

Sponsor breakdown

Puma – £7,750,000 a year

Gatorade – £2-3,000,000 a year (plus a bonus every time he’s pictured drinking it)

Visa – £500,000+

Virgin Media – £2,000,000

Digicel – £100,000

Soul Electronics – £100,000

Usain Bolt makes football announcement: Sprint legend WILL play at Old Trafford https://briefnews.eu/usain-bolt-makes-football-announcement-sprint-legend-will-play-at-old-trafford/ https://briefnews.eu/usain-bolt-makes-football-announcement-sprint-legend-will-play-at-old-trafford/#respond Tue, 27 Feb 2018 08:58:33 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/usain-bolt-makes-football-announcement-sprint-legend-will-play-at-old-trafford/

Bolt teased fans over the weekend with a message claiming he’s signed for his first football team.

And now it has been announced he will take part in Soccer Aid, opposite Robbie Williams, in a charity match at Old Trafford.

The friendly match will take place at Old Trafford on Sunday 10 June, just four days before the World Cup in Russia begins.

Bolt will lead the World Xi with Williams taking charge of the England XI.

“It is my dream to make it as a professional footballer, so to be able to step out onto the pitch at Old Trafford in June, and play against some of football’s biggest legends is going to be remarkable,” Bolt said.

“I enjoy the thrill of competition in front of a crowd, so Robbie and his England team better watch out as I won’t be going easy on them! I’ve got a pretty special celebration planned for when I score, by the way.

“My team is going to be unbeatable – and Soccer Aid for Unicef is counting on your support to make a difference to thousands of children around the world. Come and join in the fun!”

Robbie Williams, Unicef UK Ambassador and co-founder of Soccer Aid, said: “I am buzzing that Soccer Aid for Unicef is back. Reclaiming the title for England this year is going to taste so much sweeter with Usain leading the Soccer Aid World XI.

“I can’t wait to lead out the England team on Sunday 10th June at Old Trafford in what really is a game like no other. With your support, we will help children in danger around the world.”

Back in January Bolt told Express Sport he was due for trials with Borussia Dortmund and had held talks with Sir Alex Ferguson over forging a football career.

“In March we’re going to do a trials with Dortmund and that will determine what I do with that career, which way it goes,” he said.

“If they say I’m good, and that I need a bit of training, I’ll do it.

“It makes me nervous. I don’t get nervous but this is different, this is football now. It’ll take time to adjust but once I play a few times I’ll get used to it. It was the same when I started track and field. I was nervous for a while until I started getting used to the crowd, people and everyone around and it falls into place,

“One of my biggest dreams is to sign for Manchester United. If Dortmund say I’m good enough, I’ll crack on and train hard.

“I’ve spoken to Alex Ferguson and I told him he needs to put in a good word. He told me if I get fit and ready, he will see what he can do.”

The eight-time Olympic gold medalist, 31, spilled the beans about his sensational plans to move into football in a world exclusive with Express Sport on Friday.

We sat down to speak to Bolt after he flew into the Bahamas for the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure tournament – one of the major annual events on the world’s poker map.

But the rare interview suffered minor delays as he frantically demanded to know the United score in their FA Cup clash with Derby.

Bolt sighed and shook his head when he found out it was 0-0 after an hour – then revealed his dream to help Jose Mourinho’s cause.

The 100m world-record holder, who retired from sprinting last year, will have a trial in March with Borussia Dortmund which has been organised by sportswear giants Puma, who sponsor the player and the club.

Bolt hopes that will then open the door to a playing career at a top club – and he is adamant he can make it.

Bolt, who tore his hamstring in his last ever race, said: “The injury is now fine and I’m back fully fit.

He has discussed how to make a cross-sport switch happen with his good friend Paul Pogba and vowed to make it at one of the world’s biggest clubs.

“I do think I have a chance. I watch a lot of football, I understand it, I play it. With training, I could be good,” Bolt said with all the confidence and swagger seen throughout his career as a sprinter.

“Me and Pogba talk a lot. I watch and ask him a lot of questions. I want to play but it has to be in the top league. I’m not content to be average.

“It’s going to be hard because my career has been so great but if I could win a Champions League or something, it’ll be close to anything I achieved in athletics.

“But I have to be more than average. It has to be in the top league because we have a lot of teams that have offered us deals, just random clubs. I want to be the best,”

Usain Bolt wants to play as a winger

Bolt has already been in training with friends but he plans to now up the ante ahead of his trip to Dortmund. As for his position, he expects to be used as a wideman.

“I personally want to play on the wing but I know, listening to everybody and talking to footballers, that I will be put up top,” he said.

Bolt paused, then smiled to himself at the thought of it himself running out in the red of his beloved United.

“I strive to be the best and if I get a chance to play for a team like Manchester United it will be a massive deal,” he continued.

“I don’t miss the sprint training. I miss the competition, and getting out on the track in front of the crowd, but not the training.

“I will definitely want to get up and go train and be excited just to play at Old Trafford.”

So would he pull out the trademark celebration if he did net in front of the Stretford End?

“I don’t know, you can never tell. There’s a lot of time you tell yourself this is what I’m going to do,” he said.

“I’ve done that in track and field. I’ve thought I’ll dance if I win but when you actually win, the amount of emotion just takes over and you go mad.”

Usain Bolt was speaking to Express Sport at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. Established in 2004, it has quickly become one of the major annual events on the world’s poker map where the top players from North America and beyond meet with various celebrities and poker aficionados from all corners of the world, including first-time qualifiers who all get to experience the unique atmosphere in a stellar poker event held on the famous Paradise Island.

A high-school student won $250,000 for explaining relativity using a pick-up truck and Usain Bolt https://briefnews.eu/a-high-school-student-won-250000-for-explaining-relativity-using-a-pick-up-truck-and-usain-bolt/ https://briefnews.eu/a-high-school-student-won-250000-for-explaining-relativity-using-a-pick-up-truck-and-usain-bolt/#respond Fri, 29 Dec 2017 20:33:55 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/a-high-school-student-won-250000-for-explaining-relativity-using-a-pick-up-truck-and-usain-bolt/ hillary diane andalesHillary Diane Andales/YouTube

  • 18-year-old Hillary Diane Andales won the 2017 Breakthrough Junior Challenge for her video explaining the theory of relativity.
  • Andales took home $ 250,000 in scholarship money for her win.

The German physicist Albert Einstein needed complex equations to describe his theory of relativity, but 18-year-old Hillary Diane Andales of the Philippines does just fine with a pick-up truck, a few cell phones, and Usain Bolt.

Andales is the winner of the 2017 Breakthrough Junior Challenge, an annual competition that calls on teenagers across the world to submit videos no longer than three minutes that simplify big ideas in science or math. For her win, Andales took home the grand prize of $ 250,000 in scholarship money.

Her winning video was entitled “Relativity & The Equivalence of Reference Frames.” It began by displaying a sideways number, which you could interpret as either a “6” or a “9” depending on which way you turned your head. The perspective you take, Andales noted, determines your reference frame.

Reference frames are fundamental to relativity because observers perceive things differently if they’re in different locations, she explained.

Andales demonstrated this by recruiting three of her friends to record the sound a pickup truck made as it drove down a road and honked the horn. Each person stood in a different spot — one in front of the car, one behind the car, and one inside the car — and recorded the sound.

Each reference frame yielded a different sound, since the sound waves coming from the horn were either bunched up (producing a higher pitch) or spread out (a lower pitch) relative to where they got recorded.

The same test can be done with velocity and time, Andales explained. If Usain Bolt ran the 100-meter dash at 98% the speed of light, a 10-second finish from his perspective would read 40 seconds on the judge’s clock.

The reason is that faster clocks seem to move slower relative to a stationary observer. It’s the same principle that explains why clocks on the International Space Station, which orbits the Earth at 17,000 mph, lag behind terrestrial clocks by about 0.007 seconds every six months.

Thus, as Andales points out, Bolt is the Olympics’ best time traveler.

President Donald Trump continued a multiday crusade against athletes who kneel during the US national anthem by tweeting a video of Jamaican Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt.

“Even Usain Bolt from Jamaica, one of the greatest runners and athletes of all time, showed RESPECT for our National Anthem,” Trump wrote Tuesday night.

The 2012 video shows Bolt, a native of Jamaica and an Olympic sprinter who owns eight gold medals, cutting an on-camera interview short to pause for the US national anthem at the Olympic Games in London.

Bolt turns away from the camera and his interviewer, and stands in silence with a Jamaican flag draped around on his back.

Watch the footage below:

Trump has spent nearly a week sounding alarms over athletes who kneel during the national anthem. The gesture is a peaceful protest meant to call attention to racial injustice and police brutality, as noted by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who began kneeling during the anthem in 2016.

The president has sought to frame the demonstration as a protest against the American flag, US troops, and the national anthem. Sports, news, and entertainment figures have pushed back on that assertion.

Others seemed to interpret Trump tweeting a video of Bolt, an athlete of color, as a signal that American athletes of color who kneel during the national anthem should follow his example.

Bolt commented on Kaepernick’s demonstration in an interview with ESPN last September: “Everyone has the right to their own opinion. If you feel strongly about something and you want to voice your opinion, I feel it’s your right,” Bolt said.

Bolt had been hoping to avenge his last ever individual race, where he could only grab bronze behind 100m winner Justin Gatlin, with relay gold.

But the 30-year-old was denied the perfect finish to his track career by a hamstring problem in the home straight that stopped him from anchoring Jamaica to victory.

Afterwards, team-mate Yohan Blake slammed the London 2017 organisers for allowing them to get cold while waiting for the delayed race to start and in a press conference held after his final lap of honour tonight, Bolt echoed the sentiments about the circumstances of the start

“It was unusual,” Bolt said.

“I knew I had to stay warm. We got into second call room to stride out which was fine.

“But we were taken to the area behind the boarding to be ready to run, but we waited there for 10-15 minutes.

“Why bring us out if we are going to stand there? They decided to do medal ceremony.

“What am I going to do? We are athletes who are going to follow the rules.”

There had been speculation that Bolt might return in 11 days’ time to race in the Diamond League final in Zurich.

However, he ruled out any return “even for a one off” and said that he could not think about his next step until the full extent of the damage to his hamstring had been assessed.

“I’ve always said I want to play football, soccer because it’s something that I think I’d be good at but right now after pulling my hamstring I’m not really worried about that at this moment,” Bolt added.

“After the injury, I pretty much tried to get home quickly to treat it.

“I stayed up for a while texting people who were concerned what was going on. “I woke up and was getting treatment this morning.

“I will see what it is tomorrow to see if it is worse than I think it is.”

Usain Bolt and Mo Farah both ended without a World Athletics Championships gold on Saturday

Both Bolt and Farah had plans to race again after the championships but at much smaller events and the schedule had allowed both athletes to book their leaving parties from the world athletics scene on the same night.

Their career successes dictated that they should both leave with gold medals hanging around their neck but there were a number of party-poopers on hand to steal a portion of the limelight.

After being beaten by the American pair of Justin Gatlin and Christian Coleman in the 100m, Bolt had hoped to add relay gold to his individual bronze, a triumph that would have brought him his 20th championship title for Jamaica.

Usain BoltGETTY

Usain Bolt refused the offer of a wheelchair despite collapsing with an injury

And it looked set to be the Americans who would stand in his way after they ran a world-leading time of 37.70s in the heats.

It was though the Brits who led from the blocks, Adam Gemili running a sparkling second leg to out-do Gatlin who was playing the same role for the Americans.

He handed the baton on in perfect style to Darren Talbot who maintained the lead around the top bend before giving Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake enough of a lead that he might be able to hold off the chasing Coleman and crucially Bolt.

But the cheers for the British quartet were briefly interrupted by gasps as, with 50m to go, the lanky Jamaican writhed in sudden pain, a hamstring cramp ending his career in the most unpleasant way.

A wheelchair was brought out onto the track for the stricken Bolt who refused to exit the arena in such a way, instead taking a lap of the stadium to wave goodbye to his adoring fans, who may never see a sprinter of such epic talent again in their lifetime.

The drama wasn’t done there though. Gatlin revealed afterwards he thought the cold was likely to have played a part in Bolt’s injury while Jamaica’s Yohan Blake could not contain his anger that organisers had allowed the women’s high jump medal ceremony to delay the start of the race.

“They were holding us too long,” Blake said.

“To be holding us so long was atrocious.

“Usain was getting cold and he said ‘I don’t like this’.

“They were holding us too long.

“Too many presentations so the race was 10 minutes long. It was cold.”

If it was a foible of the schedule that played a major role in Bolt’s demise, it will be a mere footnote in the history of the sport which he has rewritten over the course of his career.

Usain Bolt repeatedly apologised to his Jamaica team-mates after pulling up

His dominance of the sport in the 21st century has perhaps only been matched by Farah, but he too ended on something of a bum note, having to be content with silver in a hard-fought 5,000m final.

The Brit had given his team their only medal of the games so far when he lined up for his final 5k, hoping to become world champion for a staggering 11th time.

But the Ethiopians had a plan.

“Tactically, I was trying to cover every move but they had a game-plan,” Farah said.

“One of them was going to sacrifice themselves and that’s what they did tonight.

“The better man won on the day but I gave it all.”

That man was Muktar Edris who will, along with which ever invisible sniper downed Bolt, be remembered as the pair who ruined what was supposed to be a triumphant farewell for the two great champions.

There were still multiple British medals on the night. The men won a stunning gold which almost overshadowed Bolt’s demise and the women, who finished third in Rio and ran onto the track to celebrate with their counterparts, grabbed a deserved silver.

Asha Philip, Desiree Henry, Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita took relay silver

“To upgrade from Olympic bronze to world silver with these girls has been absolutely incredible, and to do it at home means so much,” said Dina Asher-Smith, who ran the third leg and also came agonisingly close to an individual bronze in the 200m despite breaking her foot earlier this season.

“Thank you so much to this incredible crowd.

“What a lift they have us. We are so proud to win the medal in London.”
