The new Lamborghini Urus might turn out to be a golden goose for Lamborghini. The twin-turbo V8 SUV is finding new customers for the Italian supercar manufacturer, and in an interview with CNBC, Lamborghini’s CEO Stefano Domenicali says the reception for the $ 200,000 vehicle has been unexpectedly “fantastic”. The outlook for Lamborghini’s 2018 sales is projected at 5,000 cars, and the Urus could account for over a thousand of those. By 2020, Lamborghini would be building some 8,000 cars per year, and over a half of those would be Urus sales. Domenicali says that would be a point where Lamborghini would restrict its growth, as does rival Ferrari, to keep its supercar brand exclusive. The head of Lamborghini’s Asia Pacific sales, Andrea Baldi also says the manufacturer will “always make sure” that demand for its cars is higher than the supply. If making SUVs turns out to be a success for Lamborghini, the key might be hidden in the nameplate of the Urus. It’s indeed Russia that looks to be a fertile land for Urus sales, since it’s a country with both demanding roads and demanding customers. Domenicali says Russian roads have made it hard to sell traditional Lamborghini products, but the SUV should find a strong customer base there. India is another significant new market for the Urus, for similar reasons. And as for the influx of new Lamborghini customers: a growing part of them are cryptocurrency investors. It looks like bitcoin bros will only accept a Lamborghini as the token of their newfound success. “These are young people that want to become very rich with a high-risk investment,” said Domenicali. “And our customers are young as well, and very aspirational. They are not shy. So I think there is a connection.” Related Video:

Lamborghini’s first SUV, the unmistakably ’80s LM002, was a military-grade brute powered by a screaming V-12 engine. While it seemed completely offbeat at the time, it turned out to be prescient given today’s ever-expanding array of ultra-luxury, high-performance SUVs from the likes of Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Maserati, and, soon, Ferrari and Aston Martin. UK price and specs have been confirmed for the new Urus, which is only the second SUV the car manufacturer has ever made.
“The Lamborghini Urus is a visionary approach based on the infusion of Lamborghini DNA into the most versatile vehicle, the SUV,” says Stefano Domenicali, Automobili Lamborghini Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
“The Urus elevates the SUV to a level not previously possible, the Super SUV. It is a true Lamborghini in terms of design, performance, driving dynamics and emotion as well as drivable every day in a range of environments.”
“The Urus fits perfectly within the Lamborghini family as a high performance car. It is the culmination of intensive development and passionate skill to create a new breed of bull: a Super SUV that transcends the boundaries of expectations and opens the door to new possibilities, for both our brand and our customers.”
Here is everything you need to know about the new car:
Power and performance
Powering the Urus is a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine which delivers 650bhp and 850Nm of torque.
This allows it to go from 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds and 0-124 mph in 12.8 seconds and open to a top speed of 189 mph.
The engine is paired with an automatic eight-speed gearbox and the car is also setup with all-wheel drive and torque vectoring.
A plethora of driving modes tune the car to optimise performance in various different environments.
These are: STRADA, TERRA (off-road) and NEVE (snow), SABBIA (sand), SPORT and CORSA.
Footage from one of the teasers that the Italian car manufacturer revealed last month shows the SUVs proficiency in challenging off-road conditions.
A range of level of safety, security and driving assistance systems have also been added to the car which includes High Beam Assistant.
Design and practicality
Urus has low-line coupe styling and an overall dominant and muscular appearance due to the larger, but still sporty, proportions of the SUV.
It takes certain styling cues from the LM002, in terms of the car’s road presence, but its appearance also looks informed by some of the car manufacturer’s super sports cars such as the Countach and Aventador.
The giant front fender, large air intakes and low-level front spoiler don’t just give it a unique and powerful design but also improved aerodynamic efficiency.
With the engine at the front it also allows for a sizeable 600-litre boot space, which is not a spec you’d usually associate with a Lamborghini.
Inside the car there is enough room for five passengers is both sporty and luxurious.
Lamborghini says that the interior was inspired by the principe that “a car’s design, power and dynamic capabilities means every driver should feel like a pilot.”
The slim Y-design of the dashboard and hexagonal design elements on features such as the air vents echo the exterior design.
In the front of the car, the seat are made with a DNA memory sport seats are fully electric, heated and 12-way adjustable.
Each car comes with the Lamborghini Infotainment System (LIS), which controls the car set-up, media, telephone and navigation. This is controlled by the two screens on the dashboard.
The upper screen is the key interface for entertainment, managing functions such as media, navigation, telephone and car status information. The lower screen provides a keyboard and hand-writing-compatible screen for inputting information and controlling functions such as climate control and seat heating.
Smartphones can also be integrated into the infotainment system through the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a Bang & Olufsen Sound System with 3D sound and 1,700 watt output can be specified.
Prices for the Urus SUV start at £131,500 in the UK.
Lamborghini has been releasing a number of teaser trailers for its upcoming Urus SUV, and the latest is all about trying to make the SUV really feel like a Lamborghini. The host at one point begins talking about giving the Urus the right sound, which culminates in a shot of a prototype accelerating away with all raucous roar of … any other premium crossover on the market right now.
Yes, the Lamborghini Urus sounds generic. Despite reportedly making 650 horsepower from its twin-turbo V8, the exhaust note sounds too quiet, smooth, and clean. It doesn’t sound bad, but part of what makes a Lamborghini a Lamborghini is a stunning howl that you can hear blocks away. It shrieks at the high end, barks at the low end, and crackles in-between. Just take a listen to the Huracan in the video below. The Urus does none of that.
Some may say this is actually a good thing because an SUV is supposed to be more practical and refined for daily use. But that’s not what a Lamborghini is, even one that can carry more than two people. Lamborghinis are big, loud, impractical, and showy. And there’s no shortage of fast, subtle SUVs out there, so the Lamborghini being brash is a key selling point.
Still, this likely won’t deter many prospective Urus buyers. It’s still absurd-looking, featuring roughly the same creased and folded body work of the concept, and an interior full of spaceship-style switch gear. And as we already mentioned, it should be really fast. If only it sounded right.

Lamborghini Urus design has been revealed in a new teaser video.
The 2018 Urus uncovered design was on display during the ‘Corsa’ driving mode video on the car’s infotainment screen.
It is not scheduled to be officially revealed until December 4th.
Ahead of the launch event a number of pictures and videos have been released showing off the car’s capabilities.
At the 11 second mark of the video drivers can catch a glimpse of the super SUV.
It shows off the car’s musical proportions and aggressively design bumper giving the company’s first SUV a dominant stance.
It retains element of previous Lamborghinis supercars in the bonnet and grille styling.
The car was first debuted in 2011 when an Aventador influenced concept design was debuted on the vehicle.
Urus is based on the same platform hat is used to build the Bentley Bentayga and Audi Q7.
Powering the car is a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V-8 tuned to deliver 650 horsepower and 850Nm of torque and a top speed that exceeds 186mph.
It will also be able to sprint from zero-62mph in 3.7 seconds.
Urus: Rambo Lambo Part II is debuting in just under two weeks. The follow-up to the long departed Lamborghini LM002 takes a much different course than its rough-and-tumble forbearer. The Urus looks to be a genuine performance vehicle, albeit in the shape of a sharp and chiseled crossover. The new model is powered by a twin-turbo V8 making roughly 650 horsepower. This new teaser shows the Urus blasting around on some desert roads. Frankly, it looks like a riot.
We know roughly what the exterior will look like, but this teaser is our first look at the Urus’ interior. It looks to have the same digital instrument cluster from the 2017 Lamborghini Aventador S. There’s also an Anima toggle switch that appears to flip through quite a few drive modes. Translating the Italian to English shows modes for street, sport, race, sand, land and snow. This is an SUV after all, and a pretty sweet-looking one at that.
We don’t yet have all the details for the new model, but its Dec. 4 reveal isn’t too far off. Stay tuned for more.

The Lamborghini Urus SUV is coming. It’s a done deal, so now the marketing push begins before its December 4th debut. Lamborghini is highlighting the Urus’ off-road capabilities in the videos we’re going to share with you, and that’s not a bad way to start, since every other Lamborghini around has strada, sport, and corsa down pat. (That’s street, sport, and track for those of you who don’t speak Italian.)
It’s the sabbia, terra, and neve (sand, off-road, and snow) bona fides that need to be nailed down for the Urus to sell, so it’s a smart play to highlight them right off the bat. Especially since its predecessor, the LM002, had fairly legendary capabilities – and prodigious fuel consumption. Expect that to be better in the Urus, whose twin-turbo V8 of about 650 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque should be civilized enough to guzzle fuel at a more measured pace. After that, a plug-in hybrid will reduce fuel consumption even further.
Lamborghini’s also smart to push the reveal back past the noise of the LA Auto Show, so the Urus can stand on its own four tires. We expect to see more of these drive mode videos released as we get closer to the reveal, so stay tuned.

The Lamborghini Urus is coming on December 4, just days after the end of the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. The Italian automaker’s first SUV has been in development for years, but things are finally coming to a climax. Crossovers are hot, so we wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Urus becomes Lamborghini’s best-selling model. As such it needs to look, sound and drive like a vehicle worth of the charging bull badge. Thanks to YouTube channel Stateside Super Cars, we have some new video of the new Lambo lapping the Nürburgring.
The Urus will be powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 making 650 horsepower. This is likely to be a hopped-up version of Audi’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. In fact, you can see a new Audi A8 with that engine lapping the ‘Ring just behind the Urus prototype. The video gives us a small taste of the exhaust note, giving a deep low burble with a few cracks and pops on lift-off.
The ‘ute is still covered with a wrap, but you can make out the basic appearance. It doesn’t look too far off the concept we saw a few years ago, with an aggressive roofline and a distinctly Lamborghini front fascia. Look for full details in just over a month.

Ferrari look to be replicating what many of its rivals are by manufacturing an SUV.
Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Rolls Royce have all stated their intent on bringing SUVs to life, with cars already being tested on the road.
Lambo’s Urus will come to market within the next two years as will Rolls’ Project Cullinan.
Ferrari are seemingly a little late to the game with this update and it still seems, however, the company could backtrack.
According to Bloomberg, Ferrari boss Sergio Marchionne said that Ferrari are “dead serious” about building a new SUV.
During Ferrari’s Q2 press conference Marcionne said: “I think that if we allow the Ferrari engineers to reinvent the concept of a vehicle that has some utilitarian features, I think the answer is, it will probably happen, but it will happen Ferrari style.
“And Ferrari has been known historically for being able to redefine and define automotive segments.
“But I don’t want it to be a SUV – I want it to be what Ferrari thinks is appropriate. But no decision has been made yet.”
Here is where the whole Ferrari SUV gets completely baffling as Marcionne’s comments are then contradicted by another Ferrari spokesperson who said: “With reference to recent speculation in the international press, Ferrari will not be launching an SUV.”
In addition to this, Ferrari’s commercial boss Enrico Galliera also told Autocar: “We are not producing an SUV, because an SUV is not a sports car – it can be fast, but it’s not a sports car.
“We are not producing a four-door because, while a four-door can be fast, it’s not a sports car.”
Whether or not Ferrari is producing an SUV or are simply hung up on semantics is anyone’s guess but a larger, four-door sports focused vehicle is seemingly on the cards.
Reports online however suggest that the launch of the vehicle which may or may not be an SUV by definition will be revealed in 2021.
It will, as stated, likely look to take on cars such as the Rolls Royce Cullinan and Lamborghini Urus.
Whereas Lamborghini is embracing the moniker of SUV, Rolls Royce seem to also be reluctant to accept the it, instead referring to it as a high-sided all-terrain vehicle.
