What are the signs of this illness to look out for?
The NHS lists symptoms of listeriosis as “a high temperature of 38C or above, aches and pains, chills, feeling sick or vomiting and diarrhoea.”
They are described as “flu-like” and are usually only mild and can be treated at home.
Those who are pregnant are worry they might have listeriosis should contact their midwife as a matter of urgency as it can cause serious problems.
Listeria is a bacteria. It’s full name is listeria monocytogenes and it causes an illness named listeriosis.
Listeriosis symptoms are mainly those of food poisoning or flu, including vomiting and diarrhoea, as well as a stiff neck.
The disease can go away within a few days, but poses particular threat to those with a compromised immune system.
A total of nine people in Europe have now died from the disease, two of whom were from the UK.
Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Lidl have urgently recalled a number of products which have sold from their supermarket shelves.
Products include everything from condoms and cough syrup to frozen fruit and vegetables and baby food.
These products are being recalled for a number of different reasons, including listeria outbreaks and metal wire contamination.
See the full list of all products being recalled across the three supermarkets below. A full refund will be offered for the recalled products if returned.

British and Irish parliamentarians have called for “urgent” reform to Northern Ireland’s highly restrictive abortion law after a surge in the number of women going abroad for abortions.

Popular urgent care centers may be the biggest—and most overlooked—culprits in the dangerous overuse of antibiotics in clinics, according to a new analysis in JAMA Internal Medicine.
Based on insurance claims from patients with employee-sponsored coverage, researchers estimated that about 46 percent of patients who visited urgent care centers in 2014 for conditions that cannot be treated with antibiotics—such as a common cold that’s caused by a virus—left with useless antibiotic prescriptions that target bacterial infections. That rate of inappropriate antibiotic use is almost double the rate the researchers saw in emergency departments (25 percent) and almost triple the rate seen in traditional medical offices (17 percent).
The authors of the analysis—a team of researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the University of Utah, and the Pew Charitable Trusts—concluded that interventions for urgent care centers are “urgently needed.”
]]>Supermarket chains including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Lidl, Asda and Aldi have urgently recalled more than 100 products sold on their shelves.
Products including baked goods and soy sauce are believed to contain pieces of metal wire.
A number of these products are all being recalled due to allergy fears and and incorrect label information.
Some 50 other products are suspected to contain the deadly listeria bacteria.

Fortnite players are warned to remain vigilant online by Epic Games this week after a number of players lose their personal information to scammers.
Fortnite is a free-to-play game but offers layers the change to make in-game microtransaction purchases on skins and cosmetics, opening an avenue for exploitation from scammers.
Epic Games issued an urgent warning for players to stay vigilant and be careful online as they attempt to crack down on scammers looking to steal login data and money from their player base.
A number of websites have emerged purporting to give players free V-Bucks, which is the game’s currency used to buy new skins and weapon cosmetics.
Fortnite players are under threat from scammers who claim to give people free V-Bucks online.
Several websites are offering players a chance to secure free V-Bucks – used to purchase in-game skins – if they enter their account details, opening players up to losing money and data.
Despite Fortnite being a free game to download, Epic Games makes an immense amount of money on in-game micro transactions.
In April, Fortnite players spent a collective $ 296 million V-Bucks, with Epic Games regularly raking in almost $ 300 million a month in revenue from in-game purchases.
Websites are now claiming to be able to give players large sums of V-Bucks for free, provided they enter their account details.
Epic Games has been incredibly tough on scammers attempting to manipulate their player base, cracking down on several websites who are tricking players out of their data.
Epic Games has responded to the scam crisis by issuing an urgent warning for players to look out for potential scammers, adding players should never enter their account details into any other website except their own official site.
Epic Games said in an email: “Beware of scam sites offering things like free or discounted V-Bucks.
“The only official websites for Fortnite are epicgames.com and fortnite.com. Unless you are logging in, Epic will never ask for your password or any other account information.”
Fortnite is now the most played video game on the market with more than 40 million players logging in each month.
The popular battle royale shooter is mostly played on PC, Xbox One, and PS4, but Epic Game has recently launched the game on iOS, with plans to launch on Android this summer.
This mobile version of the game is being exploited by several people who have created fake downloadable versions of the game in an attempt to trick players into revealing personal data.
Android Police discovered the Fortnite Android scams during simple Google Searches, as well as on YouTube.
The site explained: “Most of them can be easily spotted from their broken English and generally crappy web design, but it wouldn’t be difficult for anyone who isn’t a complete idiot to make something more convincing.”
British Prime Minister Theresa May has summoned her cabinet to brief ministers this Thursday on a “fast-moving week” amid the ratcheting up of tensions over Syria. May’s spokesman confirmed that the meeting will focus on Syria.
May will hold an unscheduled meeting of her cabinet on Thursday, which will involve senior ministers, her spokesman told media. While the agenda of the meeting has not been made public, reports suggest May is going to seek approval for military action in Syria.
Sky News reported that May is expected to ask the ministers to greenlight the UK’s participation in an attack spearheaded by France and the US, without consulting the Parliament. Should the approval be granted, the operation could be launched “within hours.”

The call comes after a study found over-60s who go to their family doctor after unintentionally shedding weight have a greater than 3% chance of having one of 10 cancers.
These patients “warrant rapid investigation” for cancer and possibly multiple types, according to research published in the British Journal of General Practice.
The study, the first systematic review of existing evidence, found the risk with weight loss increases with age and if another sign of cancer is present.
As a symptom of cancer, weight loss was recorded as the second highest risk factor for colorectal, lung, pancreatic and renal and myeloma cancers, and the third highest in non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and gastro-oesophageal.
It was also linked with an increased risk of having ovarian, prostate and biliary tract cancers.
The review suggests patients aged 60 and over who present to primary care settings with “weight loss that prompts a clinical record entry warrant rapid investigation for possible cancer, potentially across multiple sites,” the researchers said.
They added: “Investment in rapid diagnostic pathways to urgently investigate weight loss across a number of cancer sites is justified.”
The findings come a week after NHS England announced a trial of “one-stop shops” for cancer diagnosis.
Under the initiative, GPs can refer patients suffering from “vague” symptoms, including unexplained weight loss, to assessment centres to undergo multiple tests for different cancers.
The scheme, piloted in 10 areas, aims to speed up diagnosis in those not showing signs for a specific type of cancer.
Dr Richard Roope, clinical lead for cancer at the Royal College of GPs, said: “GPs will always be vigilant when presented with any symptom that could indicate cancer, including unexplained weight loss, whilst recognising that this could be a symptom of many other, more common conditions.
“Currently there are no clinical guidelines to support GPs and their teams in how to respond to or investigate patients who present with weight loss, without other symptoms, in the cancer setting.”
“These important findings present strong evidence of the correlation between significant unexplained weight loss and many cancers, and should certainly be taken on board as clinical guidelines for GPs and healthcare professionals are updated and developed.
“We agree with the researchers’ recommendations that GPs need better access to diagnostic tools in the community across the UK so that we can appropriately refer patients to either rule out or confirm a diagnosis of cancer, as currently our access is among the lowest in Europe.”
The research was carried out by experts from the Nuffield Department of Primary Care and Health Sciences at the University of Oxford and University of Exeter’s Medical School.
