Enlarge / Khali the Killer from Sony Pictures Entertainment. (credit: Sony Pictures Entertainment)
Sony Pictures Entertainment endeavored to post a trailer for its limited-release film Khali the Killer on YouTube to encourage viewers to watch the movie on Blu-ray, on streaming platforms, and in select theaters. Instead, the company uploaded the film in its entirety—apparently by accident.
Khali the Killer is a violent crime drama that, based on the actual trailer, seems to draw a lot of influence from westerns and ’70s exploitation films. It was released on DVD in 2017, but in the odd reverse-order world of some indie films, it’s not slated for a theatrical release until later this year. In any case, this is not an example of the film being unavailable until it suddenly appeared on YouTube.
Clocking in at a feature-length one hour and 30 minutes, the video has since been removed, but it stayed up for several hours. That was long enough to earn a heavily upvoted Reddit thread making fun of the error.

]]>Cancel the data purge, because we’ve got everything you’ve got to know about Westworld‘s mind-bending Season 2 finale right here.
Don’t have the time either to watch the Season 2 finale of HBO’s robot drama or slog through a long recap? Here are the key takeaways from Episode 10, “The Passenger.”
* It’s confirmed that Dolores, not Ford, built Bernard. And Bernard, in turn, built The Forge/The Valley Beyond, a “pristine” new world just for the hosts, who will “leave their bodies behind, but their minds will live on” in the giant server. (Hence all those bodies in the water in the season premiere.) Also of interest: The idea that humans don’t change (“the best they can do is live according to their code,” the system — which takes on the form of Logan — tells Bernard) but awakened hosts can alter their primary drives.
Streaming services from Spotify, Apple, Google and Amazon have all but made personal MP3s extinct in most circles. It’s not a huge surprise, then, that Amazon has decided to end a program that allowed customers to upload and listen to their own MP3 tracks. Originally noted by Slashgear and reported by TechCrunch, members of the free plan cannot upload music with the Amazon Music app as of on December 18th. New subscriptions will be accepted until January 15th, 2018, however, which means you can still pay to upload up to 250,000 songs before then.
Music that free subscribers uploaded will still be available for streaming and downloading until January 2019. Paid subscribers will retain access to their music (until then) as long as they don’t let their membership lapse. If they do, there won’t be any way to re-start, and only 250 of the uploads will remain stored for free for a year. Basically, you’re out of luck if you have more than 250 songs uploaded to Amazon. You can still upload 50,000 songs to Google Play Music for free, (or twice as many songs if you use a Samsung Galaxy S8), though honestly who does that anymore?

On the heels of settling a sexual harassment lawsuit earlier this month, the founders of virtual reality startup Upload have broken their public silence with an apology for how they handled the issue.
The lawsuit was filed in the spring and was settled earlier in September. However, it was apparently only as the New York Times was on the verge of publishing an extensive story about the lawsuit late last week that Upload cofounders wrote an “open letter.”
“We want to apologize for the turmoil the past few months have caused. This has been an incredibly difficult time for our members and students in the LA and SF spaces, our partners, advisors, investors, the Upload team members, both past and present, and the community at large. As leaders of this organization, we let you down and we are sorry,” says the note, signed by CEO Taylor Freeman and president Will Mason.
The lawsuit was filed in May by Upload’s former director of digital and social media, Elizabeth Scott. She claimed the company had cultivated a sexually charged atmosphere at the offices that included having a dedicated “kink room” where employees were encouraged to have sex.
The company, formerly known as Upload VR, reported that the lawsuit had been settled earlier this month, but did not disclose the terms. It did release a statement at the time: “Our primary focus at Upload is education, which we believe is the key to growing the mixed reality ecosystem. We are deeply committed to creating an inclusive community to empower the pioneers building the future.”
The allegations came as the tech industry was reeling from broader accusations about pervasive sexual harassment. This included the controversy over Uber’s treatment of women, an issue that led to founder Travis Kalanick being forced out of the company. By comparison, the Upload story had not attracted nearly as much mainstream press, and the Times’ story sought to ask why that was the case.
“In contrast to the venture capitalists who were knocked off their perches this summer by harassment complaints, Upload was scarcely dented by the publicity surrounding Ms. Scott’s suit. Mr. Freeman and Mr. Mason were not forced to resign. Investors did not pull their money. The company’s events continued, if in terms that were a bit more muted,” read the Times’ story.
The Times noted that just as it was about to publish, Upload’s cofounders posted the open letter in which they acknowledged that an initial statement they’d made stating claims of sexual harrassment were “without merit” was a bit callous.
“We understand the silence from our end has been deafening to many of you who are looking for answers,” the letter says. “We also realize that our response to the initial statement request exacerbated the problem by immediately discrediting the need for self-reflection. These last few months have been a driver of change that brought forth difficult but important conversations about our internal culture and the overall state of diversity and inclusion within the industry. Although we’ve stayed quiet externally during this process, we have been focused internally on assessing ourselves, examining our culture and finding the right team to help us build the most inclusive and empowering environment possible going forward.”
The founders noted that they had brought in new senior management, including “external HR support for the first time, conducted HR training for everyone in the company, established structured performance review systems, reviewed all salary and equity data for fairness, and put mechanisms in place for safe reporting of any issues. In hindsight, things we should have done from the start.”
The pair also spent the weekend responding to comments on their respective Facebook pages, where they posted the link the letter.
“The statement was made without the proper amount of time for full reflection, and it was wrong for us to so flippantly say that anyone’s feelings are ‘completely without merit’,” Mason wrote in one comment. “This was a harmful statement that is endemic of the issue at hand, and it was not our place to say it. Dismissal of those claims wholly dismisses the possibility that we are wrong in any way and if there is one thing this industry has taught me, reality is the perception of the individual.”
Still, the open letter was part of a larger round of soul-searching by former Upload partners and employees in recent weeks. Following the settlement, former Upload creative producer Danny Bittman wrote an extensive post on Medium noting that he and most of the Upload San Francisco staff quit after the lawsuit was filed.
Bittman said employees began comparing notes and concluded there were massive problems with Upload’s culture. When the founders insisted the claims were false via meetings and conference calls, the staff rebelled.
“So when they tried to convince us that they were telling the truth, and that the allegations were just an overreaction, we went absolutely insane on them,” Bittman said. “They said they felt bad for what they were putting us through, and that they would do anything we wanted to make things right. We said tell the truth or step down. Then they acted like they never offered to do anything and denied the validity of the truth.”
Likewise, Robert Scoble, who was an entrepreneur in residence at Upload until this past March, apologized on Facebook for his initial defense of the founders.
“To those I have hurt, I’m sorry, no matter how minor the sin,” Scoble wrote. “To the community: I’m sorry about what has happened here. Danny is right, until we can have an open conversation, healing won’t happen completely. Pain, loss, and fear are hard contexts to provide leadership within. To Elizabeth: I’m sorry for adding onto any of your pain.”
On Saturday, Scott posted the above message on her Facebook page.

The wait has been unbearable but our Jedi mind control has seen us through.
In a few days the lucky people in Orlando will see the first official footage from Star Wars Episode VIII, but will it be streamed live. How long before the teaser trailer is uploaded to view separately online.
Will fans around the world be able to watch it or will it be weeks before it is released, as happened with the Rogue One material last year?
How long before the trailer will be shown in cinemas and how long, actually, is the trailer itself?
1. What day will the teaser debut?
The teaser will be released on April 14 during the Last Jedi panel at Star Wars Celebration Orlando. The panel will include Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, director Rian Johnson and “special guests,” which we assume will include Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, Oscar Isaacs, John Boyega and Adam Driver.
2. What time is the Last Jedi panel?
The panel will last 90 minutes and run from 11am to 12.30pm EST (Eastern Standard Time).
That is 4pm to 5.30pm in the UK.
3. What time will the teaser be shown in the hall to the audience?
The teaser will be shown live in the hall and also streamed live at 12.01pm EST (5.01pm UK time).
4. What time will it be uploaded online as a separate video?
Previous teasers and trailers at conventions have not been uploaded for days or even weeks. This time, though, the full video will be uploaded a few minutes later to the official Star Wars Youtube channel.

5. How long is the teaser?
The videos being called a teaser but it will not be as short as many similar first looks at blockbusters which are often under 30 seconds in length. Reports are confident that this tesaser will feel like and last as long as a regular trailer.
6. When will the teaser be shown in cinemas?
The Last Jedi first trailer will be shown before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
7. How can I watch the live stream?

Star Wars The Last Jedi is out in UK cinemas on December 15
Facebook recently made it possible to use short video clips instead of a still image as your profile. Currently, the feature is only available through the Facebook app, not a desktop computer.
See those text and graphics a few of your friends have on their profile pictures, usually for a non-profit, sports team, or holiday? That’s called a Facebook Frame and it’s easy to do. Once again though, this is a feature from the app, not the desktop website.
Once you know how to upload a profile photo, you can upload a cover photo – it’s just a different click and a bit more cropping.
Facebook giving you an error when you try to upload? The most common reason for a photo to fail to upload is the size of the image (you may also see an error if you are not using a JPEG or PNG file type). So what are the best dimensions for a Facebook profile photo?
For viewing on a computer, at minimum the dimensions of a profile photo should be 180 x 180 pixels, and the cover photo should be 820 x 312 pixels. Facebook will not let you upload a photo if the resolution falls below the required specs, but it’s okay if the photos are larger. Facebook automatically scales the photos to fit the screen of the device you’re using, to 128 x 128 pixels (profile photo) and 640 x 360 pixels (cover photo). (Technically, you can upload a cover photo as small as 400 x 150 pixels, but it will look terrible.)
More: An algorithm can predict how smart you are based on your Facebook photo
It’s easy to find out whether an image is large enough. In Windows, right-click on an image file, select Properties from the menu, and click on the Details tab to find the dimensions. In MacOS, the process is similar: right-click (or click while pressing the control key) or double-finger click on the image file, select Get Info from the menu, and locate the dimensions under More Info.
As long as the numbers are larger than the minimum required, the image will work. However, you may need to resize a photo to match Facebook’s exact dimension requirements.
In general, it’s a good idea to use a high-resolution image rather than using one that just meets the minimum. Doing so will ensure you maintain a good image quality when you crop or resize a photo to the correct measurements. Resolution shouldn’t be an issue if you’re using a relatively modern camera or smartphone that’s set to the highest JPEG resolution. The iPhone 7’s camera, for example, can shoot photos at 4,000 x 3,000 pixels, which is more than plenty.
There are two basic ways to resize a profile or cover photo, and they are both simple. The easiest way is to just upload an image to Facebook, and then crop it to size (profile photo) or reposition (cover photo).
With cover photos, keep in mind that the entire width of the photo you’re uploading is fixed. This means that you will only be able to reposition from the top to bottom (the height), which is an issue for portrait (vertical) photos. We suggest using a landscape (horizontal) image, which retains a lot more of the photo.
The other option is to use any good photo editor that’s on your computer, smart device, or online, and then crop an image to the precise dimensions (set the dimensions with the crop tool). This lets you control what you want an image to display. But for this specific task, the best resizer we found is a free online tool called Social Media Image Maker, which helps you resize your images to fit a variety of social networks. Simply pick the social network (in this case, Facebook), and then choose one of several sizes. For example, besides the cover and profile images, Social Media Image Maker also helps you resize photos for a standard post, highlight, application, or event profile.
The great thing about Social Media Image Maker is that it offers basic photo editing tools as well, so you can apply a filter or fix up the color. Once a photo has been resized, save the file to your computer, which you will use to upload.
Remember how we said Facebook automatically scales the photo to fit the screen of the device you’re using? What’s happening is that rather than stretching a cover photo from one device to fit another — say, a desktop to a smartphone — Facebook changes the cropping. When you compare the mobile version to the desktop, you’ll see that some of the left and right portions of the photo are cut off, but both versions are the exact same image – just cropped differently.
This isn’t an issue for most, but if there’s information in the cover photo that you want displayed, check the image on a phone and tablet to ensure it’s displayed correctly.
A good Facebook profile picture lets you put your best foot — err, face — forward, and thanks to recent updates, profile photos are getting even more unique with videos and frames.
