There will never be another George Romero, and the filmmaker’s death in 2017 left a big hole in the world of movies. But Romero’s legacy lives on through his work, and it might continue on into the future thanks to unreleased material. Romero’s widow Suzanne Desrocher-Romero has revealed that the Night of the Living Dead filmmaker left behind round 50 unproduced scripts, as well as a completed film from 1973 that most filmgoers have never seen.

We all miss George Romero, the filmmaker who gave birth to the zombie genre and worked outside the Hollywood system nearly his entire career. When Romero died in July of 2017, it was sad to think we’d never see another new film from the director. But now, it looks like that might not be true. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Romero’s wife Suzanne Desrocher-Romero dropped the surprising revelation that the late filmmaker left behind a wealth of unproduced scripts, and even a complete movie that’s never been released.

George has many scripts. We have very many scripts that he’s written. And so, you just never know what’s gonna pop up,” Desrocher-Romero said. “[Road of the Dead] is in the works, I think. I think it’s sputtered a little bit, but we’ll see what happens. But we have a lot.” Road of the Dead is a script Romero wrote with Matt Birman, which Birman was supposed to direct. Think of it as Mad Max, with zombies. But that’s not all. Desrocher-Romero added:

“George was a prolific writer. He loved to write, and we have 40, 50 scripts that he’s written, and a lot of it is very good. He had a lot to say, and he still does, because I’m gonna make sure that he does. It’s my mission.”

I can’t even begin to imagine what these scripts are. I doubt they’re all movies set in Romero’s Dead universe, and I have no idea if Desrocher-Romero will be able to get even half of these produced. But the prospect of new Romero-related material is certainly enticing. And while these unproduced scripts may never get off the ground, there is an unseen Romero work that we could all be enjoying very soon.

“We have a film that he shot in 1973 that most people haven’t seen. A handful of people have seen this film,” Desrocher-Romero continued. “We’re gonna restore it, and we’re gonna show it to Romero cinephiles. It’s a scary movie, but it’s not a horror movie, and it’s about ageism. Anyway, he has a cameo in it, and it’ll be fun. And we’ll show the movie, or get it distributed. It’ll be a project that the foundation’s gonna do. I think it’s the first project we’re gonna do actually.”

Desrocher-Romero also added that this unreleased Romero film is “not a zombie movie,” so don’t expect anything of that nature. Whatever this secret Romero film is, we’ll hopefully know more about it soon.

See the Beautiful Unreleased Harry Potter Cover Art From Olly Moss https://briefnews.eu/see-the-beautiful-unreleased-harry-potter-cover-art-from-olly-moss/ https://briefnews.eu/see-the-beautiful-unreleased-harry-potter-cover-art-from-olly-moss/#respond Sun, 26 Nov 2017 20:17:43 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/see-the-beautiful-unreleased-harry-potter-cover-art-from-olly-moss/ olly moss unreleased harry potter cover art

Harry Potter has gone through several rounds of book covers, each of them more stylized than the last. But what about the cover art that didn’t make the cut?

Olly Moss, one of /Film’s favorite pop culture artists, has revealed several sets of book covers that never officially made it onto the front of one of the new Harry Potter editions. As a hardcore Potterhead whose official Harry Potter covers graced the 2015 editions of all seven J.K. Rowling books, he didn’t seem too choked up about the fact that these rejected cover arts didn’t get to see the light of day. But as a Potterhead, he also saw it as his magical duty to share with fans some of the sets he created — with the appropriate permission, of course.

In a tweet, Moss shared four sets of unreleased Harry Potter cover art, linking to a PDF of the unreleased prints as well.

The first set pictured may be familiar to Harry Potter fans — Moss worked with Pottermore before to turn that set, which depict Hogwarts throughout the years in silhouette, into stunning photo prints. Moss also revealed that the Hogwarts set has also been made available for purchase with German audio books.

One of the illustrations not pictured in his tweet is a classic illustrated book cover for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which was part of a series that incorporated “hidden, graphic elements” into the art piece. In this one, the negative space above Diagon Alley takes the form of a lightning bolt.

Moss went on to reveal that some of these optical illusion covers are in print in France, China, and Brazil, and can be seen on the Ebook editions of Harry Potter.

While we didn’t get the chance to buy Harry Potter books with these stunning covers, I wish we could get the chance to see them in full-fledged poster or mini print form. The optical illusion piece is especially beautiful, and would be a wonderful collector’s item. (Hint, hint Harper Collins or NBC Universal — whoever owns Harry Potter‘s book rights now.)

I wonder if we’ll see other artists come out of the woodwork with their unreleased book cover art as well. Moss is one of many artists to tackle the Harry Potter series, from Mary GrandPre for the original iconic U.S. versions, to Thomas Taylor for the U.K. editions, and Kazu Kibuishi for the moody 15th anniversary editions. I’d personally like to see what Mary GrandPre had in store for the Harry Potter books before her final versions became synonymous with the series for thousands of kids across America.

Apple engineer reportedly fired after daughter’s vlog on unreleased iPhone X goes viral (VIDEO) https://briefnews.eu/apple-engineer-reportedly-fired-after-daughters-vlog-on-unreleased-iphone-x-goes-viral-video/ https://briefnews.eu/apple-engineer-reportedly-fired-after-daughters-vlog-on-unreleased-iphone-x-goes-viral-video/#respond Sun, 29 Oct 2017 16:15:39 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/apple-engineer-reportedly-fired-after-daughters-vlog-on-unreleased-iphone-x-goes-viral-video/

A Youtuber says her father was relieved of his position as an Apple engineer after she posted an unauthorized video of the new iPhone X online before the device’s official release.

Brooke Amelia Peterson has issued a tearful Youtube video explaining how a “hands-on” look at the unreleased smartphone resulted in her father being let go from the tech giant.

Peterson said she woke up last Tuesday to find that a video she published containing footage of the iPhone X went viral, leading her to appear on the Youtube trending page.

In September, Peterson accompanied her father on a visit to the Apple Campus in Cupertino, California. She said it was here she made a YouTube video of the smartphone, released to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone.

“My dad was a privileged engineer who worked on the iPhone X and he had one – after Apple [had] released their keynote, after plenty of Youtubers posted hands-on iPhone X videos,” she said. “My dad showed me his phone and I was filming it in the Apple cafeteria.”

The engineer involved in the debacle was employed at Apple from August 2013. Peterson’s vlog features a short glimpse of the iPhone X camera. Peterson said she made the video as an “innocent” reminder of her family day out in California, as she had very few followers online.

“It suddenly went viral and I have no idea how my video got so much attention considering how many other iPhone X videos there are out there,” she said. Peterson added that despite removing the clip, as requested by Apple, the tech company fired her father.

“He takes full responsibility for letting me film his iPhone X… at the end of the day when you work for Apple it doesn’t matter how a good a person you are, if you break a rule they just have no tolerance. The rules are in place for the happiness and for the safety of workers,” Peterson said.

RT.com has contacted both Apple and the engineer concerned for comment.

Watch a Disembodied Android Head Have an Existential Crisis in the Video for Previously Unreleased Radiohead Song “I Promise” https://briefnews.eu/watch-a-disembodied-android-head-have-an-existential-crisis-in-the-video-for-previously-unreleased-radiohead-song-i-promise/ https://briefnews.eu/watch-a-disembodied-android-head-have-an-existential-crisis-in-the-video-for-previously-unreleased-radiohead-song-i-promise/#respond Sat, 03 Jun 2017 04:12:13 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/watch-a-disembodied-android-head-have-an-existential-crisis-in-the-video-for-previously-unreleased-radiohead-song-i-promise/ Radiohead’s OK Computer was released 20 years ago this month — a fact that makes Gen X-ers like your correspondent feel terrifyingly old — and to celebrate, the band are planning a deluxe reissue. Said reissue includes three previously unreleased songs, and one of those songs, entitled “I Promise” was released to radio yesterday. As per BBC Radio 6’s Steve Lamacq, the band were “especially pleased to find [the song] in the vaults because they thought it’d been lost over the years.” We are also glad, because the song is good — you can see why it didn’t quite make the cut for the album, but it’s definitely of respectable-b-side quality.

There’s also a new video for the song, which premiered on Rolling Stone‘s website this morning, and which you can watch below. It features the disembodied, Michael-Fassbender-in-Prometheus head of what appears to be a literal paranoid android: the head has been placed in a bus, where it sits watching the world go by, but it’s also haunted by unexplained visions of a strange woman, visions that by the end of the video appear to have left the android distraught and possibly deranged. In other words, it fits both OK Computer‘s themes and aesthetic perfectly.

Hackers seize unreleased Disney film, demand ‘huge’ Bitcoin ransom – report https://briefnews.eu/hackers-seize-unreleased-disney-film-demand-huge-bitcoin-ransom-report/ https://briefnews.eu/hackers-seize-unreleased-disney-film-demand-huge-bitcoin-ransom-report/#respond Tue, 16 May 2017 03:28:16 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/hackers-seize-unreleased-disney-film-demand-huge-bitcoin-ransom-report/

The latest movies in the Disney franchises “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Cars” are set to hit the big screen this summer, but Disney CEO Bob Iger is reportedly warning that hackers are holding an unreleased Disney film for ransom, to be paid in Bitcoin.

During a town hall meeting on Monday with American Broadcasting Company employees in New York City, Iger revealed that hackers may have stolen an upcoming, unreleased Disney film. Iger said that the hackers have threatened to release the movie, piece by piece, unless the company agrees to pays a large ransom in Bitcoin, numerous sources told the Hollywood Reporter.

The Walt Disney Co chief reportedly said that the hackers are demanding “a huge sum” in Bitcoin and are threatening to release parts of the film, starting with the first five minutes, followed by subsequent 20-minute segments until the ransom is paid.

Disney’s next two upcoming major movies are “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” which is scheduled to open on May 26, and “Cars 3,” which is scheduled to open on June 16.

Iger has not revealed which film was reportedly stolen. However, a report from Deadline claims that the hackers stole the fifth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The film series has netted the studio over $ 3.72 billion to date, according to Deadline.

Last month, an anonymous hacker or group of hackers, going by the name TheDarkOverlord (TDO), released the first 10 episodes of the fifth season of the Netflix show, “Orange is the New Black” on Pirate Bay, a popular file-sharing site. The show is officially set to be released on June 9.

TDO claims that the first episode was released after Netflix was “unresponsive” to their demands. They then decided to release the next nine episodes “after many lengthy discussions at the office where alcohol was present,” according to a press release from the hackers obtained by Heavy.

“We figured a pragmatic business such as yourselves would see and understand the benefits of cooperating with a reasonable and merciful entity like ourselves,” the hackers continued. “And to the others: there’s still time to save yourselves. Our offer(s) are still on the table – for now.”

While it is unclear whether the same hackers were behind both attacks, the TDO Twitter account that took credit for the Netflix hack has not mentioned anything about the unreleased Disney film.

However, the account has tweeted that they have obtained unreleased material from ABC, Fox, National Geographic and IFC.

“Who is next on the list? FOX, IFC, NAT GEO, and ABC. Oh, what fun we’re all going to have. We’re not playing any games anymore,” the Twitter account posted in April.

Unreleased Primal Rage II Can Now Be Played By Everyone https://briefnews.eu/unreleased-primal-rage-ii-can-now-be-played-by-everyone/ https://briefnews.eu/unreleased-primal-rage-ii-can-now-be-played-by-everyone/#respond Wed, 15 Mar 2017 08:30:24 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/unreleased-primal-rage-ii-can-now-be-played-by-everyone/

Primal Rage II, a video game cancelled over 20 years ago, was never released. But if you want to enjoy it now, in The Year Of Our Lord 2017, knock yourself out, because there’s a build available and playable via an emulator.

Having resurfaced in an arcade a few years back, a dump of the game—which previously hadn’t worked properly in an emulator—is now available here, and judging by the video below looks…better than you’d expect.

There are some bugs, and obviously some unfinished stuff lying around places like menus, but the characters are animated and the fighting works.

Famous for its stop-motion animation, the original Primal Rage was released in arcades in 1994. This sequel was planned to hit in late 1996, but ended up being cancelled not long after its official unveiling in 1995.

While we’re here, here’s a very cool little documentary on the making of the original’s character models and animation:

Listen to a previously unreleased Weird Al Beatles parody, Pac-Man https://briefnews.eu/listen-to-a-previously-unreleased-weird-al-beatles-parody-pac-man/ https://briefnews.eu/listen-to-a-previously-unreleased-weird-al-beatles-parody-pac-man/#respond Sun, 19 Feb 2017 11:53:22 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/listen-to-a-previously-unreleased-weird-al-beatles-parody-pac-man/

“Weird Al” Yankovic has been delighting audiences with his parodies of popular songs for decades, and later this year, will release a career-spanning boxed set. In preparation for its release, the singer has released his parody of The Beatles’ “Tax Man”, fittingly titled “Pac-Man”.

Squeeze Box: The Complete Works of “Weird Al” Yankovic, is set to be released in November, and will contain all 14 of Weird Al’s albums, as well as a bonus album containing unreleased and rare tracks, including “Pac-Man”. Fittingly, the set will be shaped like the accordion that he’s become known for.

Yankovic originally recorded “Pac-Man” in 1982, two years after the classic video game was first released. Speaking to Nerdist, he noted that he recorded the song in his garage, and sent it to Dr. Demento, the DJ who brought his music to a wider audience. The song played on the radio for a couple of weeks, only to receive “a cease and desist letter from some attorneys representing the Beatles. Dr. Demento couldn’t play it anymore.”

While a bootleg version of the song has made the rounds around the internet (you can find it on YouTube) in the years since, Yankovic noted it wasn’t until now that he and his manager received permission to release the song for the boxed set.
