They are two of the most iconic franchises in modern popular culture. In 2018 both Star Wars and Doctor Who encountered major fan backlashes. Jodi Whitacker’s ground-breaking first season as the Gallifrey globe and universe-trotter wraps up this evening on BBC 1 in a series that has seen falling viewer numbers and rumblings of discontent. Star Wars Episode 8 also faced a major backlash on social media and threats of a franchise-wide boycott. Extremists with racist and misogynistic views have been grouped with the frustrated majority who feel the latest incarnations of their beloved franchises have lost sight of their core.  Documentary maker Marc John is currently making Episode Backlash, a film about the Star Wars situation with contributions from fans, and now he is asking the same questions of Doctor Who fans.

Marc told Express Online: “Some Whovians have already been critical of showrunner Chris Chibnall’s storytelling choices, calling out a perceived obsession with political correctness.

“Are there any ‘Whovians’ who feel that a similarly perceived political hijacking has occurred within their own beloved sci-fi mythology too? It’s open knowledge that the ratings for Doctor Who dropped dramatically over the course of Series 11, from around 10million viewers at the start of the series to a little over 6million at its close a few weeks ago.

“The gulf of opinion on Rotten Tomatoes between mainstream critics (94%) and ordinary fans (26%) is staggering. Doctor Who returns on New Year’s Day for a special episode titled Resolution. The fan reaction to it will be interesting.”

“What reactions have they encountered from cast members and the mainstream media generally in the wake of speaking up? Are we beginning to see a near identical debate to what’s happening with Star Wars?

“More worryingly, have we started to see a shift in the cultural landscape where some quarters are seeking to stamp out diversity of thought and freedom of expression altogether? Episode Backlash is not a film about Doctor Who. But to add perspective from neutral sources, Whovians will also be asked what they think about the Star Wars fan backlash and how it resembles their own experience.

“It looks increasingly to me that the Star Wars fan revolt is not just about honouring the mythology, protecting our right to free speech is also at stake.”

“Unfortunately, we continue to see mainstream news articles bashing fans for expressing valid criticism.

“The latest hostile news piece comes from the American fashion magazine, Esquire, in an article which failed to make any distinction whatsoever between a radical minority of Star Wars fans and the good-natured rebel majority at large. It makes me wonder what the fan bases associated with other sci-fi franchises think about this extraordinary stand-off between negative news reports and Star Wars fans.

“Looking in on the Star Wars fan backlash from the outside, for example, what do Doctor Who fans think about the rebels? Are there any Doctor Who fans who sympathise with the uprising? Or do ‘Whovians’, as they’re known, think that the Star Wars fan uprising is unjustly critical of Johnson and Lucasfilm generally?”

DOCTOR WHO RESOLUTION IS ON BBC 1 ON JANUARY 1 AT 7PM

‘Deeply unhappy’ Sarah Ferguson continues public charm offensive after royal wedding snub https://briefnews.eu/deeply-unhappy-sarah-ferguson-continues-public-charm-offensive-after-royal-wedding-snub/ https://briefnews.eu/deeply-unhappy-sarah-ferguson-continues-public-charm-offensive-after-royal-wedding-snub/#respond Thu, 17 May 2018 12:44:48 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/deeply-unhappy-sarah-ferguson-continues-public-charm-offensive-after-royal-wedding-snub/

Sarah Ferguson, the ex wife of Prince Andrew, 58, visited Huddersfield yesterday.

The Duchess of York seemed in good spirits despite reports she is “deeply unhappy” about matters related to royal wedding invitations.

On Monday last week it was reported that Fergie, the mother of Prince Harry’s cousins, Princess Eugenie, 28, and Princess Beatrice, 29, is not invited to the wedding reception of her nephew.

However, the redhead is invited to the ceremony at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

According to reports Prince Charles, who is planning the reception, made the decision not in invite his brother’s ex wife.

An insider told Mail Online: “Numbers are limited to the evening party, she is not a member of the Royal Family any more and Prince Charles simply doesn’t have time for her.

“He just can’t see why she is still such a big part of his brother’s life.”

Prince Harry is reported to have made a point of inviting his aunt to his wedding after she was not invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s nuptials in 2011.

However, familial ties between Fergie and her ex husband are said to be mended.

According to an insider Sarah Ferguson still lives with Prince Andrew, 58, at the Royal Lodge.

Yesterday Sarah posted images to her Twitter account detailing her trip to Huddersfield.

She wrote: “Extraordinary and inspirational collections from The Textile Practice Year 1 @HuddersfieldUni.

“The finalists designing from their brief of imagery around the word ‘Apothecary’ @ADAHuddersfield @HUDVC #textiles #design.”

She also shared images of herself visitng a local charity.

She wrote: “So honoured to visit @Ruddisretreat in Huddersfield who raise funds for retreats for children with cancer and their families @HuddersfieldUni @HUDVC #huddersfield.”

Sarah Ferguson was making merry at St. James’ Palace enjoying herself and socialising with a wine glass in hand, just days before the royal wedding yesterday.

Recently engaged Princess Eugenie, 28, attended the event with her mother, showing off her huge engagement ring.

HRH Princess Eugenie of York was given a rare “lotus blossom” sapphire, which an expert has valued at around £7,000 – modest for a royal ring.

The light pink ring is an oval cut, flanked by diamonds and set on a gold band.

A padparadscha sapphire like Eugenie’s is characterised by a colour that is a mixture of red and yellow, creating a pink tone.

Relationship Anxiety: The Reason Why You Have Unhappy Relationships https://briefnews.eu/relationship-anxiety-the-reason-why-you-have-unhappy-relationships/ https://briefnews.eu/relationship-anxiety-the-reason-why-you-have-unhappy-relationships/#respond Thu, 03 May 2018 05:13:49 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/relationship-anxiety-the-reason-why-you-have-unhappy-relationships/

Relationship anxiety is probably something you’re already struggling with but you don’t know much about it. It is a type of anxiety that gets in the way of having a healthy and fulfilling bond with another person.

If you suffer from relationship anxiety, it’s important to become aware of it. Without self-awareness, you will fail to commit to someone and your relationships will be short-lived.

In this article, we will look into the reasons why relationship anxiety occurs and how you can begin addressing this issue. It is your responsibility to deal with your anxiety and make sure you don’t start building a family on negative emotions like fear or lack.

What is relationship anxiety

If someone’s parents did not provide them with the love and care they needed as a child, they grew up confused and insecure.

Moreover, if both parents were dealing with their own mental health issues and were not able to met their children’s needs, these children took on the false belief that they were undeserving of love, support and care.

In addition to feeling undeserving and insecure, they might also struggle with trusting people. They grow up expecting others to hurt them or break their boundaries like their own parents did.

If these people avoid conflict and distance themselves from their loved one when they should be intimate, they are probably anxious in a relationship.

The cause of relationship anxiety: Your attachment style

This anxiety manifests itself through attachment behaviors. According to Lisa Firestone, Ph.D, there are four types of attachment behaviors.[1]

Knowing some things about each attachment style might shed a light on your fears and relationship phobias. Here is a attachment style matrix illustrated by Riskology:[2]

Let’s look at each of the attachment styles in details:

Secure attachment

People who were safe and comforted by their mother as a child would have a secure attachment with others. These people’s needs were met as soon as they expressed them. They felt acknowledgment from their parents for who they were growing up. This acknowledgment created an inner safety and comfort about who they are.

In romantic relationships, they feel safe and trust the other person to be there for them in times of need. They acknowledge their partner’s individuality and independence but, at the same time, are able to say ‘I need you to pick me up from work’ or ‘I feel so sad about your cat dying. This reminds me of a dog I had growing up who got sick. I miss her a lot.’

Anxious preoccupied attachment

In this case, people were made to believe that their needs as a child were not important. Perhaps, whenever they were angry or hurt, their mother walked away from them instead of comforting them.[3]

This made them feel unsafe growing up. They weren’t showed how to cope with emotions. Which threw them in the cycle of fight or flight. When they are taught that emotions do not matter, they become fearful of them.

Thus, when these people get hit by a wave of anger and they don’t know how to express it or communicate it to others, they stuff it. That leads to an overwhelming sense of anxiety because the mind thinks that they are trying to escape a very dangerous emotion.

Dismissive avoidant attachment

A person who has a dismissive avoidant attachment style might be emotionally unavailable. Folks in this category deny the importance of their loved ones and make them feel unloved by ignoring them.

They also brush conflicts off like they were not essential to the relationship’s growth.[4]

Fearful avoidant attachment

Those who have a fearful avoidant attachment style are stuck with ambivalent feelings: they crave for love and attention from their beaux but are afraid to let him/her get too close.

They certainly want their partner but they are scared of getting too close to the core of the intimacy. They think that the core will burn them and they will end up disappointed and hurt. They try to avoid this disappointment by ‘running away’ from the person they love. Avoiding feelings, thoughts and relationship problems is what they do.

If you’re this type, you’re not alone. I too am sometimes fearful of getting attached to people, especially men. The idea that I will be disappointed by them like my own mother disappointed me is heartbreaking. However, you should know that there are ways to manage these crushing feelings.

How to get over relationship anxiety (and create happy relationships)

Even if you do get disappointed by someone you love and trust, you can get over this. It is not the end of the world if your partner does something hurtful. You will live!

You can follow the tips below to get better at keeping your relationship anxiety at bay and even cultivating happiness and fulfillment.

1. Know that you have a problem.

You have relationship anxiety and, by acknowledging this fact, you will shed the confusion you have been carrying around for years. You will no longer be asking yourself Why am I so bad at relationships?

2. Find out what your attachment style is.

If you are a fearful avoidant, you might want to think of ways of confronting your relationship fears.

Go back mentally to your childhood time and remember how your relationship with your mom was. Were you excited to be with her? Did you play a lot with her? Did she care for you when you were angry, fearful or sad or punished you for showing natural, human emotions? Keep a journal to document these memories.

3. Challenge yourself.

If you are brave enough, challenge your attachment style by seeking emotionally healthy partners and friends.

Go where these folks usually hang out and try to connect with them. Can you do that? Why? Why not? How did you feel during this challenge?

4. Practice mindfulness.

When you have relationship anxiety, you shift your focus from your body, needs and emotions to your partner’s needs, thoughts and emotions. You worry about what he/she might think of you or you try to not upset them so they will not leave you for someone else.

Instead of being codependent, spend more time alone to become independent. Seek out support groups that deal with unhealthy behaviors like codependency (if you have relationship anxiety, you are probably a codependent)[5] and toxic or narcissistic relationships.[6]

Learn how to practice mindfulness from this guide: A Simple Guide to Mindfulness for Beginners

5. Make a habit of asking yourself daily ‘How am I feeling today?’

Are you angry, excited or sad about a current event in your life? If you are in a toxic relationship, ask yourself how does the body react to your partner? What is your intuition telling you about him/her? Are you happy with him? Would you feel better if you were alone?

Use your journal to mark down your feelings and build a more positive relationship with your thoughts. You can also incorporate meditation in your daily schedule to get more comfortable with difficult feelings.

6. Even better, seek help from a therapist

Seek help from a therapist who is experienced in family relationships and trauma. He/she will know the best way to move forward from where you are now.

Muster your courage to face relationship anxiety

It’s not easy to deal with relationship anxiety each time you find yourself dating someone new. But knowing that you learned this anxiety from your connection with your parents or caretakers will take a load off your chest. You can turn your life around by starting a healthy relationship with your own self so you can be in healthier, happier relationships with others.

Don’t be afraid to seek professional help for your worries. Everyone struggles with personal issues when it comes to relationships. Getting help is a sign that you take your issues seriously and want to improve the quality of your life.

85% of Americans unhappy with Congress, most think it serves lobbyists, not the people https://briefnews.eu/85-of-americans-unhappy-with-congress-most-think-it-serves-lobbyists-not-the-people/ https://briefnews.eu/85-of-americans-unhappy-with-congress-most-think-it-serves-lobbyists-not-the-people/#respond Tue, 27 Feb 2018 06:54:05 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/85-of-americans-unhappy-with-congress-most-think-it-serves-lobbyists-not-the-people/ The overwhelming majority of Americans, irrespective of party allegiance, holds a dismal opinion of Congress, a fresh poll shows. It found 89 percent of Democrats and 82 percent of Republicans disapprove of the legislature’s work.

The new poll, published by the Associated Press-NORC Center on Monday, revealed that a total of 85 percent of Americans believe the Congress’s job is below par. The attitude to the Republican-controlled legislature does not change much across party lines. The number of Democrats that held an unfavorable view of Congress, 89 percent, is only seven percentage points higher than that of Republicans, at 82 percent.

While the figures are a bit more reassuring when it comes to the members of Congress, the immediate representatives of those surveyed, they are still hardly anything to brag about.

Only 44 percent of Americans approve of the work their own Congressman or Congresswoman is doing on Capitol Hill, 41 percent of Democrats and half of Republicans.

Even if some may think that the Congress’s workload is enough, it does not mean they are passing all good laws. Fewer than 20 percent of Americans believe there is merit to the lawmakers’ legislative work, while over a third of all respondents think it is mostly bad. The remainder don’t assess it as either positive or negative.

The NORC poll was conducted between 15 and 19 February.

The plunging ratings aren’t a product of the Trump era and its partisan skirmishes. Americans have long been disenchanted with Congressional politics. A glance at the Gallup Congress approval chart through the years will show that it rarely climbed over the 20 percent threshold since 2010. After a record 84 percent approval in 2002, the rating has been on a steep decline, reaching a new low in November 2013 after it slipped to just nine percent.

A survey conducted by Stanford University and the University of California-Santa Barbara, together with the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research in 2015-2017, purports to explain the disdain of the American public with their elected legislators by an enormous gap between who they are supposed to serve and who they actually do serve, according to Americans themselves.

“Large majorities in both parties report lawmakers should pay attention to the majority of Americans but believe lawmakers actually pay attention to donors and elites. Rare in 2018, both self-identified Republicans and Democrats agree,” Trevor Tompson, director of the AP-NORC Center, stated in a press release on Monday.

What the researchers identify as the root cause of the problem is that 65 percent of Americans believe that their representative in Congress should pay attention to a majority in the US, while only 18 percent of respondents think that it is what they are actually doing. The part of the population most catered-for by the lawmakers are the lobbyists that “gave money to last election campaign,” according to the survey. Sixty-six percent of Americans believe that Congress actually pays attention to lobbyists, while only 11 percent agree it should be like that.

While Congress, at its current 20 percent approval rating, according to Gallup, is safe from breaking records any time soon, President Donald Trump, with his 38.4 percent job approval rating during his first year in office, became the first president to go below 40 percent in his first year, with his nearest contender in this respect being Bill Clinton, at 49.3 percent.

Facebook researched why social media can make people unhappy to help create new features that let you ‘snooze’ people and ‘take a break’ from your ex (FB) https://briefnews.eu/facebook-researched-why-social-media-can-make-people-unhappy-to-help-create-new-features-that-let-you-snooze-people-and-take-a-break-from-your-ex-fb/ https://briefnews.eu/facebook-researched-why-social-media-can-make-people-unhappy-to-help-create-new-features-that-let-you-snooze-people-and-take-a-break-from-your-ex-fb/#respond Fri, 15 Dec 2017 16:21:15 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/facebook-researched-why-social-media-can-make-people-unhappy-to-help-create-new-features-that-let-you-snooze-people-and-take-a-break-from-your-ex-fb/ Mark ZuckerbergStephen Lam/Reuters

  • Facebook introduced new newsfeed tools on Friday, one of which will let you snooze updates from people or pages for 30 days.
  • The snooze feature is based on research that people are more happy using social media when they interact with people they like, versus just browsing the news feed, which some research says can be depressing.
  • There’s also a new tool called “Take A Break” for those ending a relationship.

Facebook is adding new tools to the newsfeed Friday intended to give you more control over what you see from people and pages you’re connected with, including an ex.

Facebook’s move is based on a bunch of internal and external research on how social media affects moods. In general, the company has learned people feel better about their social media use when they’re interacting with people instead of passively scrolling through their news feeds and looking at content. (You can read a detailed summary of the research here.)

Facebook is rolling out three new features Friday based on those findings. Here’s the breakdown:

Snooze

The snooze feature will let you mute a person, page, or group for 30 days. Their content will no longer show up in your feed, but you’ll still be connected to them.

Take A Break

This feature is designed for those who end a romantic relationship. It’ll give you controls over what kind of posts you see from your ex, and which of your posts your ex will be able to see. It’ll also let you control who can see your past posts, presumably so people won’t be able to see old photos and status updates with you and your ex.

Suicide Prevention

These previously announced tools provide support options for users who may be considering suicide. It can connect “people in distress” with organizations that can help prevent suicide. Facebook uses artificial intelligence to detect posts and live videos from people who may be considering suicide.

 Strictly Come Dancing 2017: Debbie McGee unhappy with tonight's routine for THIS reason https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-debbie-mcgee-unhappy-with-tonights-routine-for-this-reason/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-debbie-mcgee-unhappy-with-tonights-routine-for-this-reason/#respond Sat, 04 Nov 2017 11:00:41 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-debbie-mcgee-unhappy-with-tonights-routine-for-this-reason/

The 59-year-old former magician’s assistant amazed the judges and viewers alike with her breathtaking Charleston last weekend, scoring a staggering 39 points.

With the pressure on to keep her top spot on the leaderboard, however, the Strictly Come Dancing star has confessed that her routine this week isn’t ideal for her.

Revealing that she is thankful that the Tango means she won’t be “thrown around too much” after pulling off the Charleston’s many ambitious lifts last week, Debbie McGee announced: “We’re dancing to The Black Eyed Peas’ I Gotta Feeling, which may sound like a strange choice, but the musical arrangement for it is brilliant and really works.

“I prefer traditional music for the Tango, really,” she said, explaining her slight dissatisfaction with the choice of song.

Luckily, Debbie conceded that, although it might not have been her favourite to dance to, the music does work for the routine she and her Strictly partner Giovanni Pernice, 27, will be doing, writing in her Daily Telegraph column: “But this track has light and shade, which is exactly what you need for this style of dance.

“It’s got plenty of staccato, but there’s tender moments too,” she added.

Debbie also came clean about suffering with injuries after their impressive Charleston, revealing that she has pulled muscles in her back and Giovanni had damaged his shoulder in the process of performing the acrobatic dance.

She added that the pain was “worth it” to have been crowned the Queen of Latin by Shirley Ballas, 57, when the head judge handed over her imaginary crown in awe after watching the routine.

Former Strictly winner Ore Oduba, 31, recently tipped Debbie to make it all the way to the final, praising her for starting to string together a run of shows at the top of the leaderboard.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 6.50pm on BBC One.

Star Wars Han Solo movie title: Unhappy fans reveal HILARIOUS name they wanted https://briefnews.eu/star-wars-han-solo-movie-title-unhappy-fans-reveal-hilarious-name-they-wanted/ https://briefnews.eu/star-wars-han-solo-movie-title-unhappy-fans-reveal-hilarious-name-they-wanted/#respond Wed, 18 Oct 2017 06:44:42 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/star-wars-han-solo-movie-title-unhappy-fans-reveal-hilarious-name-they-wanted/

It was supposed to be a big revelation.

Unfortunately, the confirmation that the Han Solo movie will be called exactly what everyone has been expecting for months has provoked a rush of fan memes, tweets and hilarious alternatives.

Now that everyone knows that the movie will be called ‘Solo’ it seems that the return of the galaxy’s most lovable rogue is being upstaged by the introduction of the galaxy’s most lovable (some might say annoying) new characters.

Take notice, Disney, this is the movie everyone really wants.

The Star Wars Anthology movie’s title theories have been bandied about for months and back in June images of crew T-shirts and baseball caps featuring a logo name (which turned out to be correct) were leaked on social media.

Replacement director Howard finally made the big reveal today online and was handed a huge sign by a helpful Wookiee extra in a cute short video.

Fans wasted no time in mocking up their alternative version and one name was a clear favourite.

Not even Han’s infamous charms can compete with a squawking little fluffy flightless bird from Ahch-To, it seems.

After the latest Last Jedi trailer the Porgs have become ubiquitous on social media and fans quickly worked them into a new poster.

One ever cleverly turned the ‘s’ into a dollar sign, perhaps commenting on the evident merchandising value of the new characters.

The power of the porg can work both ways, however.

One clever fan also used the trending clip of a porg screaming to represent their excitement about the Solo movie announcement.

SOLO WILL BE RELEASED IN MAY 2018

Fear TWD Recap: Unhappy Trails to You https://briefnews.eu/fear-twd-recap-unhappy-trails-to-you/ https://briefnews.eu/fear-twd-recap-unhappy-trails-to-you/#respond Mon, 02 Oct 2017 02:15:34 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/fear-twd-recap-unhappy-trails-to-you/ But… but we hadn’t even gotten to say, “Hail, hail, the gang’s all here” yet. Nonetheless, Sunday’s Fear the Walking Dead found another member of our long-splintered group bailing on the reunion that showrunner Dave Erickson promised was coming. Can’t say we blamed the character in question for pulling an Ofelia and striking out on their own. But it was still kind of a bummer. Read on, and we’ll go over how we got from here to… well, not here anymore.

‘YOU’LL BE IN HEAVEN BEFORE YA GET THERE’| Picking up where “Brother’s Keeper” left off — R.I.P., Jake — “This Land Is Your Land” began with the situation in the ranch’s pantry going south faster than you could whip out a compass. Turned out, the vent was sealed, meaning that Alicia, Ofelia, Crazy Dog and all the ranchers you don’t know by name would be killed by carbon dioxide in two hours. To buy time, the trio whose names we do know decided that, since fewer people produce less carbon dioxide, they should put down those who’d been bitten when the infected stormed the ranch. Miraculously, Blake — whose name I’ll admit I didn’t know until Sunday — volunteered, paving the way for others to step forward. So, while Ofelia and Crazy Dog headed into a claustrophobic’s worst nightmare to unblock the vent, Alicia was tasked with… basically killing a whole bunch of people who until an hour earlier had been her neighbors. #goodtimes

Meanwhile, Nick, after keeping Troy from launching into a chorus of “Only the Good Die Young” in his brother’s honor, hatched a plan to save the day. Unfortunately, Nick being no Rick Grimes, it did not go well. Though he was able to — in a single shot! — hit a fuel tank, sparking an explosion to distract the walkers, Troy seemed less interested in driving them to the chopper through the walkers than in driving into the walkers, period. And, gore-stained windshields being notoriously difficult to see through, in no time at all, he had crashed into an RV. Somehow, the duo still managed to make it to the chopper, which Nick appeared convinced would be as easy to drive as a golf cart. To his credit, he did get the thing started, but only briefly. When the engine died, it looked like he and his bestie were going to do the same. Troy even went so far as to note that he had saved a single bullet and gave Nick the choice of which of them was gonna use it. Before either of them could, however, there was an explosion.

fear the walking dead season 3 episode 13 recap‘EVEN WHEN YOU’RE HOPELESS, HOPE IS ALL YOU HAVE’| Back at the ranch, Alicia faltered after gently killing her first volunteer. “I know it’s hell,” said a woman whose name I only just learned was Christine (and I think I long mistook for doppelgänger Patty). “But those people have done their part. You need to do yours.” When next we checked in on Alicia, she had woman’d up, dispatching all but one of the ranchers who’d been doomed by their bites: Blake. “I’m sorry for what I did,” the militiaman cried before being put down. That least pleasant of tasks out of the way, Alicia deserved a drink as tall as a water tower. Instead, all she was served was a nice heart-to-heart with Christine, who encouraged her to avoid her mistake and “never make decisions based on fear.” Later, trading memories with Christine, Alicia recalled Nick comically coming to her rescue when, at age 9, she forgot the words to “This Land Is Our Land” during a talent show. Christine, unimpressed, fell asleep. No, wait, that’s not right — she didn’t doze off, she passed out due to a lack of oxygen. In fact — oh dear — everyone but Alicia had lost consciousness. As she, too, began to fade, she caught a hazy glimpse of a zombified rancher chowing down. And right and left, more of the undead were rising.

While all this was going on, Ofelia talked Crazy Dog through a panic attack en route to clear the vent, and we learned more about him in that couple of minutes than we had all season. He’d served in Iraq, for instance, had had a son and didn’t like confined spaces. Then it was back to the mission, which the twosome barely completed. The vent wasn’t working, they learned, because — what are the odds? — it had a walker hanging off of it like the world’s grodiest Christmas ornament. Crazy Dog was hoisting Ofelia up to dispatch it and remove it from overhead when, the carbon dioxide at last getting to him, he stumbled, in doing so bringing down the zombie on his companion. Despite the fact that the walker landed with its mouth close enough to Ofelia’s neck to leave a hickey, she managed to put it down. Which was especially good, considering the big news that she was about to get.

fear the walking dead season 3 episode 13 recap‘STOP PRETENDING ANY PLACE IS SAFE’| As air began to recirculate in the pantry, Alicia revived and, while trying to protect Christine, took out as many of the newly infected as she possibly could. But she was so badly outnumbered that it appeared her number was up… until… the aforementioned explosion. That, we discovered, was Madison and Strand’s handiwork. Just before Alicia was turned into a zombie chew toy, her mom and Victor burst into the pantry with not only Walker but Troy and Nick, too. The blast, it seemed, had saved everybody. Well, not Christine. In spite of Alicia’s valiant efforts, Christine didn’t make it, leaving her new pal in the heartbreaking position of having to stab her in the brain. (Honestly, the moment was pretty emotional, especially considering how little of Christine we’d ever seen.)

Bummed that she couldn’t save the ranch, Madison told Nick that their next stop would be the trading post to get supplies, then they’d be off to the dam. Before leaving, though, she had to inform Ofelia that a) her father was alive, and b) he was eager to see her. The news for Alicia was not so exciting. When she asked where Jake was, Troy blurted out, “He got bit. I put him down.” She clearly suspected that the horde hadn’t just materialized out of thin air, so Nick — dude, seriously? — lied for Troy, painting him as a hero who’d tried to warn everyone of the walkers’ approach instead of the villain who’d acted as their field guide. Finally, Alicia announced that she wouldn’t be going with them to the dam. “We die as quickly together as we do apart,” she noted. That being the case, she needed to live for herself, for once not in fear. (Clearly, Christine had had as big an impact on her as she had me.) After Alicia set off for the hideaway that Jake had showed her, Madison agreed to let Nick tail her, just to make sure she was safe. He’d be back, though, he promised. “Take Troy,” Madison said, if you ask me, putting her daughter in more danger than she’d have been in if Nick hadn’t followed her at all.
