Back pain is a common condition that usually improves by itself within a few weeks or months, according to the NHS.

It could be caused by sleeping in the wrong position, having bad posture, or even by a small injury.

There are a number of “overlooked” home treatments for lower back pain that you should never underestimate.

Soothing back pain with a hot or cold compress is a great way to reduce pain, it’s been claimed.

Using a hot or cold compress is often underestimated in tackling back pain, according to medical website Spine-Health.

Not only do they help to reduce inflammation, but they also instigated the healing process, it said.

A cold compress works as a local anaesthetic, and slows down nerve pulses.

Similarly, a hot compress prevents pain messages from being sent to the brain.

“Don’t underestimate the pain reduction of simply applying cold packs and/or hot packs to help reduce your lower back pain and spur the healing process,” said the medical website.

“Cold application has two primary benefits. It reduces inflammation, which is usually a culprit in any type of back pain.

“It acts as a local anaesthetic by slowing down nerve impulses, which keeps the nerves from spasming and causing pain.

“Heat application has two primary benefits. It inhibits the pain messages being sent to the brain.

“It stimulates blood flow, which brings healing nutrients to the affected area of the low back.”

Heat therapy can come in a number of different forms, but it’s a good idea to stick to what works for you.

A hot bath or shower works just as well as soaking in hot tub, using a heat pad or a hot water bottle.

The most common type of back pain in the UK is lower back pain, said the NHS.

It’s usually nothing to worry about and gets better by itself within a few weeks or months.

Painkillers could provide short-term relief for back pain patients.

Speak to a GP if you have back pain and a numbness around the genitals.

A swelling in the back, difficulty passing urine, or chest pain should also be seen by a doctor if it’s accompanied by back pain.

Video footage of a grey-haired man playing basketball with a group of young people, and leaving them open-mouthed by scoring a two-pointer, has gone viral.

The footage shows the older man confidently juggling a ball as he approaches a shirtless defender who is easily swept aside with a fake hook shot. As the young man turns back his opponent skilfully performs a one-handed backwards shot which hits the rim and goes in.

The man left the playground to cheerful chants from the youngsters who were astounded by the trick.

At the time of publishing, the video, which was published on Twitter, gained 2.9 million views with many users praising the man for his talent and prowess.

The EU and some of its key member states have been “taken hostage” by a “speculative financial Empire” through an orchestrated “invasion of new immigrants,” Orban said in Budapest on Monday, adding that this mysterious “financial power” was behind the “latest great migration of peoples” that flooded Europe with “millions of migrants.”

“This plan was developed to make Europe a mixed [multicultural] continent,” the prime minister said at an event commemorating the anniversary of the 1956 anti-Soviet uprising in Hungary, adding that “only we managed to stand up against it,” apparently referring to the governments of Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, which have taken a staunch anti-migrant stance and refused to accept refugee quotas imposed by Brussels.

Orban then declared Central and Eastern Europe the continent’s last “migrant-free zone.” The Hungarian leader expressed the hope that, by acting together, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia could potentially stop mass immigration.

He went on to say that the ultimate goal of the massive inflow of migrants into Europe consisted of depriving it of its Christian and national identity. The prime minister then stressed that Europe should remain “safe, fair, civic, Christian and free” and should regain the splendor he said it had before embracing multiculturalism.

Orban’s remarks concerning the “financial power” behind the mass immigration apparently referred to the Hungarian-born US billionaire George Soros. The Hungarian prime minister has already accused Soros of seeking to create a “new, mixed, Muslimized Europe” in July. He also repeatedly blamed the tycoon of fueling the refugee crisis in Europe, adding that “Brussels has come under George Soros’s influence.”

Orban’s words were echoed by Hungarian MP Andras Aradszki, who claimed that “Soros and his comrades want to destroy the independence and values of nation states” by bringing migrants into Europe. He slammed the billionaire by calling him “Satan” earlier this month.

Orban’s latest remarks also come as Central and Eastern European countries witness a shift to the right. In Austria, two anti-migrant parties took the first two places in the parliamentary election, and are now expected to form the ruling coalition.

Just a week later, parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic ended up in a victory of an anti-establishment movement headed by a local billionaire dubbed “the Czech Donald Trump,” who is particularly known for his severe criticism of the EU’s immigration policies.

Hungary itself is engaged in a bitter row with the EU over the refugee relocation quotas, together with Poland and Slovakia. The issue dates back to the EU decision made in 2015 to rehouse some 160,000 refugees from Greece and Italy over a period of two years, only around 27,700 of whom have been settled so far.

Budapest also faces pressure over the fence that covers one-quarter of the length of its borders and was designed to stop the inflow of migrants and asylum seekers at the peak of the refugee crisis. Despite repeated criticism from many European countries, Hungary refuses to remove it and claims that it has helped to cut the inflow of migrants by 99.7 percent since 2015.

Over the last two years I interviewed more than 150 entrepreneurs trying to uncover what their keys to success were. Among the top three things they said were essential to achieving their business goals was doing the work. Consistently.

Even though most people understand intuitively that they won’t reach their goals without rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty day in and day out, many people struggle to do it.

One of the primary reasons I’ve observed this happens, is because the size of the task they want to tackle is intimidating. Instead of focusing on the immediate next step you must take to advance, it is easier to focus on the colossal size of the mountain you are trying to climb.

When you focus on the boatload of work that needs to be done, it is easier to sit and do nothing. No bueno.

Thankfully, I’ve learned a little trick that has helped me climb many mountains in both my personal and professional life: Being naive. It’s worked so well for me in helping me to get things done, I count it as an essential key to my success.

Here’s why.

Why not having the full picture can work in your favor.

A few weeks ago, I delivered my first workshop in Spanish. It’s the official language here in Buenos Aires where I live, and although many people speak English, I accepted the challenge to speak to those who prefer to learn in their native language.

When I first agreed to teach the workshop, I didn’t think it would be that hard. I’d presented the material several times before, and all I had to do was translate the slides and talking points.

As I started the process, I quickly realized how big an undertaking this was going to be. It. Took. Forever.

I spent an entire day on the project, while complaining about all the work involved and questioning why I even agreed to do this in the first place. Had I known how much work it was going to be to get my presentation ready in Spanish, I never would have agreed to do the workshop.

And thus, I never would have achieved a major milestone on the path to expanding my business to have a greater reach on a global scale. I’m glad I said yes. My ignorance to the amount of work involved helped me take a necessary step forward.

Ignorance really can lead to bliss.

This wasn’t the first time being naive about the work involved to complete a task worked in my favor.

Underestimating a mountain of work enabled me to start my business, write my first book, host my first online conference, build my first online course, complete my first triathlon, and finish a 35-mile bike race.

Had I known in advance everything that would be required of me to complete these, I’m not sure if I would have started any of them.

My ignorance to the size of the mountain I was about to climb got me to climb the mountain.

Full disclosure: In the middle of every task I experienced a mini-meltdown (or two), and scolded myself for getting into a situation I felt I wasn’t ready for.

But every time I saw the task through to completion. I prevailed and was thankful for having made my way through it, battle scars and all.

I’m not the only one who’s experienced this benefit. When I talked to my friend Henneke Duistermaat over at Enchanting Marketing, she had a strikingly similar observation:

“And I agree with you that it’s sometimes better to underestimate the work something takes. If my estimations had been accurate, I would have never written my books, and would have never created my course, and would never have drawn this infographic. And I wouldn’t have had so much fun!”

Embrace being naive. Lean into the bliss of not knowing how deep you’ll have to dig before receiving your prize.

The ignorance will get you started. And once you take those first few steps, the laws of physics will start to kick in. An object in motion will stay in motion. An object at rest, will stay at rest.

And along the way, you will learn more about what it will take to complete your task. You will figure out what you need to do to see your project through to completion.

And eventually, you will make it to the top of that mountain.
