Less than 24 hours after the world learned of Cicely Tyson‘s death, the late actress appeared in a pre-taped interview during Friday’s episode of Live With Kelly and Ryan.

Tyson’s visit to the daytime talk show was in promotion of her new book Just as I Am: A Memoir, which hit shelves on Jan. 26.

The interview began with a story from the 96-year-old actress’ earliest days. When Tyson was just a baby, a stranger told her mother that she was going to grow up to be incredibly successful. Tyson explained that she was shy as a child (“I sucked this thumb for 12 years”), which made her a keen observer of humanity. “I listened and I learned why people said and did the things that they did.”

Looking back on her incredible career, Tyson said, “I never thought that I would be nominated for an Oscar, but I used to watch the event every year. One night, I watched it and I said, ‘I’m going to sit in that front row one day.’ And I ended up doing that for the role of Rebecca in Sounder,” a role she was originally considered “too young” and “too sexy” to play. The part was offered to another actress, who ultimately turned it down.

“I have been an actress my whole career who’s never been paid any money, because I never really worked for money,” she explained. “I’ve worked because there were certain issues that I wish were addressed about myself and my race as a Black woman.”

When asked for her health tips, she told the co-hosts, “I never smoked, I never drank and I never did drugs. When Martin Luther King was assassinated, I was so stunned by that that I became a vegetarian. And I’ve been one most of my life.”

“To say Cicely Tyson was an American legend would be too great an understatement,” Kelly Ripa said in a special message at the top of the hour. “We were honored to speak with her … and devastated to learn of her passing. She was a trailblazer who broke barriers for Black actresses and women everywhere. Cicely was a portrait of courage, dignity and grace. We feel very fortunate to share with you her last interview.”

The Live team released the following statement on Thursday evening: “Yesterday, Kelly and Ryan were honored to have the chance to interview the iconic Cicely Tyson, for a pre-taped show airing tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 29. Tonight the Live with Kelly and Ryan team was devastated to learn of her passing. They have decided to proceed and air the show and interview as originally scheduled. The hosts, staff and crew of “Live” send their deepest condolences to the family, friends and fans of Miss Tyson, and hope that the interview serves as a fitting tribute to this legendary actress.”

From a Kennedy Center honor to the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Tyson earned countless accolades throughout her incredible, decades-long career as a trailblazing actress. Her trophy case also includes three Primetime Emmys, a Tony, a Peabody and an Academy Award. She was 96 years old.

Official video will be added when it becomes available. In the meantime, drop a comment with your thoughts on Tyson’s interview below.

Tommy Fury: How are Love Island’s Tommy and boxer Tyson Fury related? https://briefnews.eu/tommy-fury-how-are-love-islands-tommy-and-boxer-tyson-fury-related/ https://briefnews.eu/tommy-fury-how-are-love-islands-tommy-and-boxer-tyson-fury-related/#respond Thu, 06 Jun 2019 18:01:09 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/tommy-fury-how-are-love-islands-tommy-and-boxer-tyson-fury-related/

Love Island viewers saw Tommy Fury make his way into the villa alongside ballroom dancer Curtis Pritchard in the ITV2 series premiere. Tommy mentioned both on the show and in his pre-entrance Love Island interview that he was related to boxer Tyson Fury. Here’s how Tommy and Tyson are related and his other famous family connections.

How are Tommy Fury and Tyson Fury related?

Tommy and Tyson Fury are related as the latter is the Love Island star’s older brother.

Tyson Fury, 30, is 10 years older than his younger brother Tommy, who is also a boxer outside the villa.

The pair’s father is John Fury, another boxer in his own right after fighting professionally in the 1980s.

Love Island’s Tommy and brother Tyson are also related to another famous boxer.

Hughie Fury, 24, is a pro boxer and current British Heavyweight Champion – he’s Tyson and Tommy’s cousin.

Tommy’s father John has remained relatively tight-lipped about his son appearing on the ITV2 series, but did take to Twitter in support of him in the show’s first week.

Responding to a tweet sent by former Dancing on Ice winner Jake Quickenden, John simply wrote: “Get in son.”

Jake had initially tweeted: “F****** hell #LoveIsland, Tommy no f**** given… Poor Joe.”

Tyson has also remained relatively quiet about his brother’s reality TV stint as he’s currently in training for his upcoming bout against Tom Schwarz on June 15.

However, Tommy did say in his Love Island intro VT: “I’m related to the one and only Tyson Fury and I know he’s backing me all the way.”

Despite his famous family ties, Tommy is adamant on not being labelled as simply Tyson’s “little brother”.

Tommy told ITV: “I’m my own man and I’ve said it throughout my whole boxing career.

“I don’t want to be labelled as his little brother, I’m my own man and I’m doing the best that I can do in life and that’s all I’m setting out to achieve.”

While Tommy may have wanted to avoid discussing his brother in the villa, it didn’t take long for it to be the topic of conversation.

Tommy and Curtis joined the rest of the islanders on the first evening and talk soon turned to Tommy’s family ties.

Callum Macleod asked Tommy what he did for a living, to which Tommy replied: “I’m a professional boxer.”

Anton Danyluk then added: “He’s Tyson Fury’s brother, man.”

The revelation sparked a hilarious response from Callum, who said: “You’re Tyson Fury’s brother? F****** hell.”

Sherif Lanre was also visibly shocked by the news as he let out a sigh of exasperation.

It isn’t just his direct family who have spoken out in support for Tommy with former champion boxer-turned-trainer Ricky Hatton thinking he could win it.

Ricky told BBC Sport: “When he first came training with me I told him, with his looks, he should be in Love Island and, with my looks, I could do Treasure Island,

“I have to say I didn’t used to watch Love Island but with Tommy in it now, me and the rest of the lads I train in the gym will be tuned in.

“I think he can win it from what I’ve seen so far.”

Tommy’s trainer also said he wasn’t worried about the ITV2 series affecting his performances as a boxer.

Ricky said: “I didn’t need to give Tommy any advice about keeping fit.

“You can see from his physique that he looks after himself. I’m sure he will be doing some training while he’s on the show.”

Love Island 2019 continues every weeknight and Sundays at 9pm on ITV2.

Tyson Fury demands controversial judge who cost him Deontay Wilder victory is SACKED https://briefnews.eu/tyson-fury-demands-controversial-judge-who-cost-him-deontay-wilder-victory-is-sacked/ https://briefnews.eu/tyson-fury-demands-controversial-judge-who-cost-him-deontay-wilder-victory-is-sacked/#respond Sun, 02 Dec 2018 23:41:34 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/tyson-fury-demands-controversial-judge-who-cost-him-deontay-wilder-victory-is-sacked/

Mexican judge Alejandro Rochin scored the fight in Wilder’s favour despite the feeling that Fury had down enough after rising from the canvas TWICE, including in the 12th round.

And Fury wants him out of the sport and has told him to go to Specsavers.

He said: “I’ve never seen a worse decision in my life.

“I don’t know what fight that judge that gave it 115-111 was watching. That judge needs banning.

READ MORE: JUDGES GOT IT WRONG… WHO REALLY WON?

“He needs sacking or to go to Specsavers.

“Stuff like that gives boxing a bad name.

“I haven’t seen as bad a decision since the first Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield fight.

“The world knows who the real WBC champion is. Wilder has had a gift decision in his home country.

“He must be thanking his lucky stars that he still has the green and gold belt. That belt belongs to me, Tyson Fury.”

Former world heavyweight king Lennox Lewis also agreed, he said: “It happened to me and I knew it was going to happen to him. Everybody could see who won.”

Fury was also angered by British judge Phil Edwards for scoring the fight a draw at 113-113.

The Brit’s promoter Frank Warren called the decision a “robbery” and said they will be writing to the WBC to request a rematch.

The WBC will sit down in the coming weeks to discuss the matter and vote on whether to force Wilder into a rerun with Fury.

The Manchester-born fighter remained unbeaten after he somehow got off the canvas in the last round after a right hand and left hook left him flat on his back.

And now he wants the chance to do it again.

Fury said: “Getting off the canvas is what true champions do. You can’t stop me getting up. I’m like a phoenix rising from the ashes. We want the rematch now.”

Warren is keen to bring the second fight to the UK and Wilder’s co-manager Shelly Finkel is happy for his man to travel.

But there is also the matter of WBA, WBO and IBF champion Anthony Joshua and Finkel is expecting a call from his promoter Eddie Hearn.

He said: “Anything is a possibility. We will see if the guy (Eddie Hearn) calls us.

“Maybe Joshua will think my guy is not so good and will want to fight him now.”

Tyson Fury FLOORED by Deontay Wilder TWICE with rematch on cards after controversial DRAW https://briefnews.eu/tyson-fury-floored-by-deontay-wilder-twice-with-rematch-on-cards-after-controversial-draw/ https://briefnews.eu/tyson-fury-floored-by-deontay-wilder-twice-with-rematch-on-cards-after-controversial-draw/#respond Sun, 02 Dec 2018 10:57:53 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/tyson-fury-floored-by-deontay-wilder-twice-with-rematch-on-cards-after-controversial-draw/

Wilder downed Fury in the ninth round of their heavyweight contest at the Staples Center in the early hours of Sunday morning.

And the American put Fury to the canvas in the 12th too – before Fury heroically got back to his feet to soldier on.

To that point, Fury had appeared to dominate but Wilder’s dramatic late surge looked to have stolen it.

Except Fury had other ideas. The man who says he has made the ‘greatest comeback ever’ in even making it to the ring refused to throw in the towel as he battled it through to the bell.

Once the 12th was over, Fury stomed round the ring in celebration in a clear sign he felt he had won. Wilder, meanwhile, barely let out a whimper.

Fury kissed his opponent and told him he ‘loved him’ in emotional scenes between two men who have all the respect in the world for one another.

There were moments of confusion with scorecards being handed back and forth with the verdict clearly a close one.

It was then it was announced as a draw, with the first judge giving it 115-111 to Wilder, the second one as 114-112 to Fury and the third judge Phil Edwards of England calling it 113-113.

It means the two are now set for a dramatic rematch – possibly in America – for what many are dubbing ‘the greatest fight ever’.

Wilder, however, was adamant he won the fight: “With the two knockdowns I definitely won. I don’t think he had control.

“I wasn’t hurt. I did not sit still, I was too hesitant, I started overthrowing the right hand. I was forcing my punches too much.

“I don’t know if it (a rematch) will be my next fight but would love it to be. We need to do it again.”

While Fury vowed to fight Wilder again: “We’re on away soil, I got knocked down but I still believe I won the fight. I’m showing total professionalism. Thank you for the opportunity D, God bless you.

“The Gypsy King has returned. God bless America. I’m a professional athlete who loves to fight. He is a fearsome fighter. The world knows the truth. Thank you to every fan around the world.

“I’m a fighting man and Jesus has his control over me so I was never going to get knocked out. I came here tonight and fought my heart out. That is the second best heavyweight apart from me. We are both going home to our family safe.

“I’ve been away from my family for 10 weeks and just want to spend some time with them over Christmas.”

On a rematch, Fury said: “One hundred per cent we will do the rematch. We’re the best two heavyweights in the planet. There is another heavyweight who is a chicken. (Anthony) Joshua where are you?”

But Fury’s trainer Ben Davison was left furious at the decision and fumed: “They have just taken away the biggest comeback in sports history. You have to be a sick, sick man to do that.

“I told Tyson before the fight he would beat him with his left hand. We didn’t come here for money to get through the fight we came here to win and I’m sick and gutted. Deontay is a very dangerous opponent after the 12 months we have had we need a break.”

Promoter Frank Warren was adamant that Fury won it by three rounds – even if he was surprised Fury returned to his feet after the 12th-round trip to the canvas.

“I thought he (Fury) had won it by three rounds,” Warren told BT Sport.

“When you think of what he has come from to be here. It is the art of hitting and not getting hit. I didn’t think he was going to get up (in the 12th) but at the end of the round he was pushing him back.

“It is a draw but everyone knows he won it and we will want to do a rematch. How could a fight like this not be a rematch? It is unfinished business. He won that. He won that fight and everyone knows it.

“In Britain that is an 80,000 job. Vegas will be drooling for this. When was the last time you saw a great fight in USA. Tyson and Deontay have livened up this decision. The best fought the best but it was not the best decision.”

Cosmos Host Neil deGrasse Tyson Accused of Sexual Misconduct; Producers Launch Investigation https://briefnews.eu/cosmos-host-neil-degrasse-tyson-accused-of-sexual-misconduct-producers-launch-investigation/ https://briefnews.eu/cosmos-host-neil-degrasse-tyson-accused-of-sexual-misconduct-producers-launch-investigation/#respond Sat, 01 Dec 2018 09:33:25 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/cosmos-host-neil-degrasse-tyson-accused-of-sexual-misconduct-producers-launch-investigation/

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, who hosts the Emmy-winning Fox/National Geographic series Cosmos, has been accused of sexual misconduct by two women, and the producers behind Cosmos have launched an investigation.

“The credo at the heart of Cosmos is to follow the evidence wherever it leads,” Cosmos producers said in a statement to our sister site Deadline. “The producers of Cosmos can do no less in this situation. We are committed to a thorough investigation of this matter and to act accordingly as soon as it is concluded.”

Fox and National Geographic added in a separate statement: “We have only just become aware of the recent allegations regarding Neil deGrasse Tyson. We take these matters very seriously, and we are reviewing the recent reports.”

The investigation stems from an accusation from Tyson’s former assistant Ashley Watson that she was forced to quit her job over Tyson’s inappropriate sexual advances. Also, Bucknell professor Dr. Katelyn N. Allers claims that Tyson groped her at an after-party for the American Astronomical Society in 2009.

Cosmos, a nonfiction series explaining the evolution of scientific theories related to outer space and other planets, debuted in 2014, with Tyson serving as host and narrator. The first season was critically acclaimed and won a number of awards, including four Emmys. A second season, titled Cosmos: Possible Worlds, is set to debut on Fox and National Geographic in March.

Tempers flare as shirtless Tyson Fury & Deontay Wilder clash at fiery LA press conference (PHOTOS) https://briefnews.eu/tempers-flare-as-shirtless-tyson-fury-deontay-wilder-clash-at-fiery-la-press-conference-photos/ https://briefnews.eu/tempers-flare-as-shirtless-tyson-fury-deontay-wilder-clash-at-fiery-la-press-conference-photos/#respond Wed, 28 Nov 2018 23:08:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/tempers-flare-as-shirtless-tyson-fury-deontay-wilder-clash-at-fiery-la-press-conference-photos/

What started out as a run-of-the-mill occasion descended into an ugly shouting match as scuffles broke out on stage at the pre-fight press conference between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury in Los Angeles.

Tempers erupted when the pair confronted each other during an intense face-off, with Wilder shouting in the Brit’s face, telling him he was going to knock him out while Fury mockingly bobbed and weaved his head in response.

And when members of Wilder and Fury’s respective teams moved in to prevent tempers from boiling over, scuffles broke out among the teams and Fury took off his jacket and shirt as the two protagonists were separated to avoid an ugly clash.

Wednesday’s press conference took place on the three-year anniversary of Fury’s world title-winning performance over Wladimir Klitschko, and the timing wasn’t lost on the Brit.

“It’s my anniversary today,” he told the assembled press. “It’s three years since I went to Germany and kicked Wladimir Klitschko’s arse all over Dusseldorf, and I’ll do the same to Deontay on Saturday.

“I’m here to do a job and enjoy myself, and I hope the boxing fans around the world are going to enjoy this fight as much as I will.”

Wilder started out calm and composed in his opening statement as he revealed his excitement ahead of the contest.

“I can’t wait,” he enthused. “It’s been my saying this whole time: I cannot wait. Time is clicking, it’s boiling down. Can you feel the energy?

“This is a moment I’ve been waiting for my entire career. This is the time, it’s my time. Fury had his time. When he beat Klitschko that was his time, that was his window. Now it’s my time.”

But things started to heat up when the press conference went to the Q&A segment, which quickly descended into a back-and-forth shouting match between the pair.

Before the chaos ensued, Fury said that he was returning to the sport not just as the heavyweight division’s lineal champion, but as a champion for people around the world who deal with mental illness.

The Brit suffered with mental health issues during his time away from the sport. But he explained that now he is back on the world stage, he wants to be an inspiration to those who deal with similar issues every day.

“I stand for more than a championship. I stand here as an ambassador for mental health,” he said.

“I’m the people’s champion. I’ve got millions of people around the world who look up to me and I’m on a mission to inspire these people.”

Then Fury turned up the mental warfare and clearly touched a nerve when he questioned Wilder’s tough-guy image.

“When I look at him I don’t see a bad man, I see a pretender,” said Fury.

“This ain’t an act. I am what I am. A bald-headed, big-bearded hulk of a man. And I didn’t practice to talk like this. I just do it.”

It left Wilder all fired up, as the American turned his sights on Fury as he looked to questioned the Brit’s boxing credentials.

“I was at the Olympics. I medalled. I’ve never seen him in the Olympics, I’ve never seen him medal,” he stated.

“I’ve knocked out every fighter I’ve faced. Why hasn’t he? Why is his ratio so low?

“He didn’t beat Klitschko, Klitschko beat himself. If Klitschko had shown up and thrown more punches he’d have won. Everybody knows that.”

And with the fight just a matter of days away, the defending WBC champion issued a warning to the returning Fury, saying that he’s been ready for their matchup for weeks, and that the smiling adversary he had spent time with during the lead-up to the event was now replaced by a world champion determined to defend his crown.

“So much emotion is running through my body right now. I was ready two weeks ago,” he declared.

“I can’t wait to put these hands on you. When I get in the ring, it’ll be no more Mr. Nice Guy.”

'It's a toss up, I like Khabib!': Tyson rooting for Russian in UFC 229 McGregor showdown (VIDEO) https://briefnews.eu/its-a-toss-up-i-like-khabib-tyson-rooting-for-russian-in-ufc-229-mcgregor-showdown-video/ https://briefnews.eu/its-a-toss-up-i-like-khabib-tyson-rooting-for-russian-in-ufc-229-mcgregor-showdown-video/#respond Fri, 07 Sep 2018 16:52:37 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/its-a-toss-up-i-like-khabib-tyson-rooting-for-russian-in-ufc-229-mcgregor-showdown-video/

Heavyweight boxing icon Mike Tyson has said that although the Khabib Nurmagomedov against Conor McGregor fight for the UFC lightweight title on October 6 is a “toss-up,” he will be rooting for the Russian.

READ MORE: ‘I want Khabib to smash it. He’ll stop McGregor!’ – Ex-world boxing champ Tszyu (VIDEO)

Champion Khabib, unbeaten in 26 fights, holds the belt stripped from brash Irishman McGregor due to inactivity, but the two will meet at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in one of the most anticipated mega-matchups in the promotion’s history.

It is no secret that Khabib holds ‘Iron Mike’ in unwaveringly high regard, fulfilling a life-long dream when he visited, upon invitation, the former two-time heavyweight champion of the world at his home in Las Vegas.

During a recent trip to Ekaterinburg, Tyson, the youngest man to ever win the heavyweight crown, aged just 20, said that the match would be a good old 50/50 contest, and rubbished ideas McGregor would have to retire should he be defeated.

“Well that’s not true, he still has a lot of fight in him. But it’s going to be a tough fight, everyone knows it’s going to be a tough fight. It’s like a toss-up, know one really knows who is going to win, people are picking with their heart. I like ‘Khabibi’,” Tyson said.

“I don’t know if he is the favorite but he has a good chance. You know, Conor lost his last fight (vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. – TKO 10); Khabib has been on a good winning streak for a while. It’s not gonna be an easy fight though for either one of them. It’s gonna be hard.”

Tyson was known as one of the most feared fighters in the world in his heyday, tearing through the heavyweight division to clinch the IBF, WBA and WBC titles by the age of just 23, earning the moniker ‘Kid Dynamite’ along the way.

Although Tyson reached the pinnacle of boxing long before MMA lept from the periphery to the near forefront of combat sports, the former champ says that McGregor’s cross-over fight against Floyd Mayweather – and the other hybrid matchups it spawned, such as the recent Logan Paul v KSI ‘YouTuber’ boxing match – was not bad for the sport of boxing itself.

“Hey, no, you can’t say that because Conor McGregor did well until he got stopped. No one expected him to go that far and do that well. He scored punches he hit Mayweather with punches and did well, it’s just Mayweather was a more experienced boxer than he was,” the 52-year-old Tyson mulled.

Former light-welterweight world champion Kostya Tszyu exclusively told RT Sport that his loyalties also lie with Khabib and called McGregor more of an “entertainer,” although he was more candid in his support than ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’.

“Of course I’m following, but I’m not really interested. I’m gonna follow of course Khabib, and I really, really want him to just smash it! Not the way a boxer does, I think he’s gonna wrestle him, and stop him,” Tszyu, 48, said.

Tyson Fury Deontay Wilder pictures leaked as fighters argue again https://briefnews.eu/tyson-fury-deontay-wilder-pictures-leaked-as-fighters-argue-again/ https://briefnews.eu/tyson-fury-deontay-wilder-pictures-leaked-as-fighters-argue-again/#respond Mon, 20 Aug 2018 16:56:35 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/tyson-fury-deontay-wilder-pictures-leaked-as-fighters-argue-again/

Fury picked up the 27th win of his professional career on Saturday when he beat Francesco Planeta over 10 rounds at Windsor Park.

But his next bout will be over a scheduled 12 rounds when he takes on Wilder for the WBC title, a fight that was announced in the ring in Belfast after Fury’s victory.

And while promoter Frank Warren says he has not got a date in the diary yet, the two men appear to have filmed a sit-down conversation in London earlier today.

Pictures posted on Twitter by Warren show the two men sitting at a table covered by a black cloth with Wilder’s WBC belt sitting between them and commentator John Rawling moderating the debate.

The two are not known to have anything more than a sporting rivalry although they did find themselves in the middle of a scrum of people last week with Wilder and Fury both shouting across a crowd in the lobby of the Europa Hotel.

However, one of the pictures of filming, thought to have taken place in Stratford, shows Wilder snarling angrily at his opponent while Rawling raises his hands in an attempt to keep the peace.

And in another snap both appear to be talking over each other while standing up, the table still between them, and Rawling glances nervously at Wilder.

The exchanges, which happened during a common style of joint interview ahead of major boxing bouts, was branded “the best in the history of the format” by Warren, one of the few people to have witnessed the occasion first-hand.

“No exaggeration, this makes every one filmed previous to this look like a children’s tea party,” Warren wrote on Twitter.

Terms have already been agreed by both camps but Warren has not yet announced the date or venue for Wilder vs Fury.

But Express Sport understands Las Vegas on November 17 is the most likely outcome, which could theoretically allow the winner to face Anthony Joshua for undisputed heavyweight champion status on April 13 next year at Wembley.

Wilder had been in talks with Joshua himself over a showdown to unify the four major heavyweight bells but those negotiations fell through with both venue and purse split said to be the biggest sticking points.

And Fury, a former heavyweight champion himself, pounced on the opportunity to get back into a world title fight less than six months after his return to the ring.

“Fury contacted me and we had a great conversation. This was Instagram, on 22 June,” Wilder said.

“He said: ‘I promised you I’d fight you – let’s make this happen, it’ll be the biggest fight in the world.’

“I’ve always wanted the Tyson Fury fight.

“To finally get him, it’s a blessing. In our eyes he’s still the lineal champion, he’s undefeated.

“He’s still getting massive respect, he’s the man who beat the man.

“I can’t wait to meet the man that beat the man, so when I beat the man I become the man. You understand?”

Fury and Wilder announced in the ring in Windsor Park on Saturday night that the much-anticipated clash between the lineal world champion, Fury, and his undefeated WBC champion rival would take place later this year – likely November – but, as promoter Frank Warren was keen to impart, a specific date and venue hasn’t been selected as of yet.

Fury won every round on the judges’ scorecards in Belfast, though some sections of the crowd appeared frustrated at his measured performance, clearly feeling that he could have finished the fight if he had upped his intensity.

For Fury though, the prize was too lucrative to take any chances. The bout will be the biggest heavyweight attraction since Anthony Joshua defeated Wladimir Klitschko in May of last year and the winner will be in prime position for the heavyweight world title unification bout with Joshua in 2019, in what would be the most lucrative fight in boxing.

At the conclusion of Saturday’s fight, Wilder climbed into the ring to tell the audience that the fight was “officially on.” Fury retorted with “I’m knocking you the f*** out, boy.”

“It is one thing that Tyson Fury has never had,” Wilder later elaborated about the world title he holds. “He had many belts, but he’s never had the WBC belt. And if he ever thinks about having this belt, he better wake up and apologise to me because he’ll never have this.

“I can’t wait to fight you because I am going to knock you out, I promise you. You’ve never been knocked out but you’re going to feel the experience, what it feels to get hit by the Bronze Bomber.”

As for Tyson Fury, his comeback was a simple one: “Listen, you can’t knock out what you can’t hit. This man [Pianeta] couldn’t land a blow on me tonight.”

Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder WILL be confirmed in ring on Saturday – EXCLUSIVE https://briefnews.eu/tyson-fury-vs-deontay-wilder-will-be-confirmed-in-ring-on-saturday-exclusive/ https://briefnews.eu/tyson-fury-vs-deontay-wilder-will-be-confirmed-in-ring-on-saturday-exclusive/#respond Fri, 17 Aug 2018 08:20:47 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/tyson-fury-vs-deontay-wilder-will-be-confirmed-in-ring-on-saturday-exclusive/

Fury will face former world title challenger Francesco Pianeta in Belfast on Saturday, only his second fight since a two-and-a-half-year hiatus from the sport.

The self-styled “Gypsy King” is expected to record a comfortable victory over the German who has lost two of his last three fights but will then make a significant step up in class.

Express Sport understands that Wilder will be in attendance at Windsor Park and that, assuming Fury wins, he will get in the ring after the fight to go toe-to-toe with the heavyweight.

Negotiations between the two camps were initiated after Wilder failed to agree a deal with three-belt heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, a fight promoter Frank Warren claims was made impossible by the British side.

However, talks for Fury vs Wilder appear to have progressed quickly and easily and now Express Sport has been told that everything is in place to confirm the fight officially tomorrow.

That includes broadcaster BT Sport making their first foray into the pay-per-view market with the launch of “BT Sport Box Office”, which up until now has been nothing more than a minimalist announcement earlier this year.

The move signals yet another area in which they are looking to compete with Sky Sports, who have the likes of Joshua sewn up thanks to their deal with Matchroom Boxing and Eddie Hearn.

And Warren revealed yesterday that even if Wilder had fought Joshua and not Fury, that too would have been on BT.

“When they were putting the bid together, the offer for Joshua I helped with it,” Warren said.

“BT were very interested in broadcasting it.

“It wasn’t about being on Sky it was about who came up with the most money.”

And money, Warren claims, has not been an issue between Wilder, who offered Joshua $ 80million (£63million) guaranteed over two fights, and Fury.

“Fights happen for two reasons and they don’t happen for two reasons. One: the money’s got to be right. Two: you either fancy the fight or you don’t,” he added.

”Wilder, Tyson, the money’s OK and they both want the fight.

“Joshua, somebody didn’t want the fight – Wilder wanted it, made a huge offer.”

But now WBC champion Wilder, who is currently unbeaten in his 40 professional bouts and has held seven successful defences, is fully focused on Fury.

“Me and Tyson Fury will definitely be fighting. It will seal the deal if he can get a win come Saturday night, then it will definitely be even more realistic,” Wilder said yesterday.

“I have no doubt in my mind that he’s going to do what he’s got to do and get the job done and get this fight out of the way so we can get into camp and get ready to train for the battle of the real kings of the heavyweight division.

“Fury has always been welcome in my home and I think now, finally, these guys have grown some balls and now he’s ready to fight me.

“It’s going to be a good fight while it lasts. He’s definitely going to be in shape.

“People don’t think he’ll be in shape and he needs more tune-ups and stuff but he’s a champion. He’s a professional fighter. He knows what he needs to do to get in shape.

“Everybody, no matter what calibre of fighter in this sport, when guys know they have to face me, they get in the best shape of their lives.

“And they should because I’m a very dangerous guy.”
