Federal prosecutors will dismiss cases against 129 people still facing criminal charges in connection with mass arrests on President Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day, according to court papers filed on Thursday.

Cases are pending for 188 defendants following the acquittal of six defendants at the end of the first trial in December. The government explained in its latest court filing that it planned to proceed with charges, including felony counts, against 59 defendants, but would file a motion to dismiss the indictment in the remaining 129 cases.

Assistant US Attorney Jennifer Kerkhoff, the lead prosecutor, wrote that the government had decided to dismiss the majority of the cases “in light of the legal rulings by the court and the jury’s verdicts in the first trial of these cases.”

The US attorney’s office told the court that it would focus its efforts now on defendants who allegedly engaged in “identifiable acts of destruction, violence, or other assaultive conduct,” participated in planning violence and destruction, or who knowingly participated in what’s known as “black bloc” tactics in order to aid violence and destruction.

Police arrested 234 people during anti-Trump protests on Jan. 20 in downtown Washington, DC, that turned violent as some demonstrators broke store windows — the government tallied more than $ 100,000 in property damage. In the months that followed, prosecutors dropped charges against 20 defendants and 20 others accepted plea deals. Only one defendant, Dane Powell, pleaded guilty to a felony charge. Powell is also the only defendant to receive a sentence that included jail time — he was sentenced to four months.

Most of the 188 remaining defendants faced eight charges, including a felony count of inciting a riot, two misdemeanor counts of engaging in a riot and conspiracy to riot, and five felony counts of property destruction. Although the judge during the first trial granted a motion to acquit the defendants of the felony incitement charge at the conclusion of testimony, the government did not say in Thursday’s filing that it planned to drop that charge.

The felony charges carry maximum penalties of 10 years in jail and a $ 25,000 fine. The misdemeanors have maximum penalties of 180 days in jail and a $ 1,000 fine.

Elizabeth Lagesse, one of the defendants the government says it will still press charges against, told BuzzFeed News in a phone interview that she would continue to maintain her innocence and fight the case. Lagesse is also a plaintiff in a civil lawsuit alleging excessive force and constitutional violations by the Metropolitan Police Department on Inauguration Day.

“My immediate reaction was just to be really, really happy because 129 people don’t have to worry about this anymore. My second reaction was to be a little bit confused that I’m still on the list. I don’t fit any of the criteria that they listed and I have absolutely no idea what their justification is,” Lagesse said. “I’m just gonna keep on keepin’ on.”

Mark Goldstone, a defense lawyer whose two clients are also on the list of 59 people the government says it will continue to prosecute, told BuzzFeed News in an email, “Those 129 cases should have been dismissed a year ago, but we are very excited that the Government recognized that it was logically impossible for 217 defendants to have done the exact same conduct.” He declined to comment on his clients’ situation.

The 59 defendants still facing charges include Aaron Cantú, a journalist currently working as a staff reporter at the Santa Fe Reporter. His lawyer did not immediately return a request for comment. Press freedom advocates have denounced the arrest of journalists on Jan. 20 and have called on the government to drop the case against Cantú.

Lawyers for the government and a group of defendants are due in court on Friday morning for a status hearing.

The cases have been assigned to a new judge in the District of Columbia Superior Court because of standard calendar reshuffling among the judges. Chief Judge Robert Morin — who last year presided over disputes about the government’s efforts to enforce search warrants against Facebook and a web hosting company in its investigation of the Inauguration Day cases — will take over from Judge Lynn Leibovitz, who had handled the cases from the start.

In anticipation of a year of trials — the defendants were divided into small groups with trials set through October 2018 — defendants and their supporters took part in a call drive last week to register their opposition to the prosecution with the US attorney’s office. Lagesse told BuzzFeed News that several hundred people participated across the United States and in Canada and the United Kingdom, and that some even reached Kerkhoff on the phone. The US attorney’s office declined to comment.

President Donald Trump’s token presidential “challenge coin” is a radical departure from his predecessors, replacing the national motto with “Make America Great Again.” And Some on Twitter could not contain their anger.

Trump was reportedly personally involved in the design of the collectible coin, which replaced the national motto, “E Pluribus Unum” with his trademark “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan. Designers of the new coin also dropped the traditional presidential seal, in favor of a picture of the White House.

The challenge coin is now gold, as opposed to the traditional copper and silver coins which former presidents have gifted. Trump’s version also has a ribbon-shaped add-on along the bottom, where his name is inscribed. The token has an American flag on one side and an image of a bald eagle on the other. None of the design’s detractors on Twitter, however, complained about the lack of a red “Make America Great Again” cap on the bald eagle’s head.

Author Steve Silberman seemed shocked at the changes. 

Author and equal rights advocate, Amy Siskind, also appeared to be upset at the radical design overhaul. 

A self-described health advisor and advocate blasted Trump’s changes to the non-legal tender coin.

The commemorative coins are derived from the military tradition of exchanging coins in a covert manner, through a handshake. Presidents have, in the past, given them to troops, visitors and other members of the public. The coins have now become collectors items, and are sometimes sold for hundreds of dollars.

Donald Trump is not a novice at saying things that are jaw-dropping to the masses and some might even say this is part of his appeal. When asked in a new documentary about his once friendship with Bill and Hillary Clinton, he quoted a line from the movie The Godfather when making his point about his relationship to the Clinton couple.

What Trump did in November was something not many thought he could do. Whether you like Donald Trump or not, there is no denying he accomplished a major feat by mowing over Hillary Clinton to become the 45th president of the United States. A new documentary that is all about Donald Trump had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and it is due to make its cable television debut on February 3, airing on Showtime. You can see the trailer below.

The documentary is called Trumped: Inside the Greatest Political Upset of All Time, which is most likely a play on words combining both his name and his ability to trump the best of them. Back in 2005 when Donald Trump married Melania, Bill and Hillary Clinton were at the wedding. That was back in the day when having the powerful Clinton couple show up at any event made that event one of the social events of the year.

While Trump at the time was a notable name, he was not the household name he has become since stepping into the political arena. So in 2005 it was quite the feather in his cap to have Bill and Hillary witness his nuptials. When Trump was asked about the Clinton couple and his level of friendship with them at the time of his wedding, Trump’s words made it sound rather lukewarm, or even just going over the cusp of chilled, if you were to assign a temperature to the relationship.

What Trump said was “They were nice, I was nice. But it’s business. You know the old story: it’s not personal, it’s business,” Trump shared this thought with the reporters interviewing him at the time back in March. Mark Halperin and John Heilemann taped this conversation that is seen in the documentary. After he offered up that quote, he was told that his “old story” originated with the mafia. That is when Trump replied, “That’s all right. It happens to be true.”

That line was a famous one from Francis Ford Coppola’s movie The Godfather, and it was made famous by none other than Al Pacino in his role as the Godfather, Michael Corelone. He said this line to his brother, Sonny, who was played by James Caan. He was explaining that what was about to happen to the guys who took his father’s life was “not personal, it was strictly business,” according to EW News.

Trump’s interview in this documentary took place before he was elected president, but he had a lot to say about Hillary. He started with how he believes that he was the last person she wanted to run against for president. Trump says he knows this as “a fact” because he has heard it from her own people. When the interviewer asked why Hillary’s people were telling tales out of school, Trump said, “They tell me everything.”

This is not the first time that Trump has addressed the confusion around what once seemed to be a friendship between Trump and Hillary. It was a friendship that appeared to do an about face on the political field. He has basically said that if you are a large donor to a cause, the people running that cause will show up just about anywhere you ask them to show up.

According to the Daily Mail in an archived article, Trump once said about Hillary attending his wedding that ” she had to come,” as he was a big donor to her foundation. Along with many other things, Donald Trump has opened up the public’s eyes as to how a lot of the behind the scenes deals work in politics. It wasn’t a pleasant eye-opener for most, which is why his promises to fix this had people backing him all the way to the White House.

Trump was very sure that he would win the election, even back when this was filmed. In an article from the Townhall today, NBC’s Chuck Todd explains how the masses were shocked when Hillary lost the election, but the media knew it was coming.

Todd said how Hillary’s loss was no surprise to the media. He added that the media knew all along it was going to be tough for Hillary to get the votes, but they kept it under wraps for fears of being “seen as a sexist. Todd also said in the interview, “And I think it was a fear of, ‘Oh, is it going to look like it’s sexist, anti-woman if we say that?” He also said that there were an overwhelming number of “Hillary for Prison” signs in the yards of rural America.

Todd said about Clinton’s loss, “Where I think political correctness got in the way of what we all knew as reporters and didn’t fully deliver was how hated the Clintons were in the heartland.” So it appears that Trump’s confidence was backed by what was known at the time by those in the media and the politicians, it’s just that the public wasn’t privy to that information.
