Good Morning Britain’s Piers Morgan has been a vehement supporter of Sir Captain Tom Moore ever since he came into the public eye for his heroic efforts at raising an eye-watering amount of money for the NHS. On Sunday, the veteran’s family confirmed Captain Tom was in hospital after contracting Covid-19 and the news led to online trolls abusing the fundraiser and his family blaming his recent Barbados trip for the diagnosis.

Piers began: “There are these disgusting vermin, to be abusing him and his family, to be mocking them on Twitter, at such a moment where there are serious concerns about his life, I find utterly contemptible.

“As contemptible as the racist abuse I saw aimed at Marcus Rashford over the weekend. What have we become? Seriously?

“Where are we as a society where so many people on Twitter, on social media, are sitting at home and sitting up and thinking ‘I know what I will do – I will abuse Marcus Rashford, I will abuse Captain Tom’.

“Why don’t you do what Marcus Rashford did? Why don’t you get off your racist bigoted nasty backsides and do something yourselves for your country.”

“We’re going on the trip of a lifetime,” Graham McTavish announces at the start of Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip With Sam and Graham‘s full trailer, as he and Outlander co-star Sam Heughan drive the Scottish countryside in their new Starz travel show.

He continues, “What is portrayed in the show is truthful, in many ways.” Heughan, in the driver’s seat, looks amused. “Time travel is truthful?” he asks. “Yeah, I wasn’t necessarily thinking of the time-travel bit,” McTavish sheepishly admits.

Per the video above, the upcoming series — it premieres on Sunday, Feb. 14 — will play off McTavish and Heughan’s friendship as the pair travels Scotland in what the series’ official logline calls “a a celebration of Scottish history and culture as Heughan and McTavish take viewers along on their adventures, discovering the rich, complex heritage of their native country, meeting various local artisans and experts, and experiencing genuine moments of awe and fascination as the duo share their travels with the audience rather than simply guiding them.”

The half-hour series, which will unfold over eight episodes, will find Heughan and McTavish catching and sampling Scottish seafood, partaking in traditional Scottish sword dancing (which Outlanders will remember Murtagh doing in Season 1), trying their hands at some Highland Games events and traversing the country via various forms of transportation (a tandem bicycle is involved).

And even if she knew she was going to be, surely the time it’d take for her to pick her outfit and Sheldon to drive would have been ample enough for an ambulance to arrive?

Penny’s also well aware Sheldon’s driving skills leave a lot to be desired.

A stickler for the rules, Sheldon adheres to all of the necessary precautions that come with driving a car, from checking his mirrors to abiding by the speed limits.

If Penny was in such pain, why would she think getting dressed with Sheldon and having him drive would be quicker than calling 911?

Legends: Marc Guggenheim Previews ‘Inventive’ Trip Through TV History, Dominic Purcell’s Khan Impression https://briefnews.eu/legends-marc-guggenheim-previews-inventive-trip-through-tv-history-dominic-purcells-khan-impression/ https://briefnews.eu/legends-marc-guggenheim-previews-inventive-trip-through-tv-history-dominic-purcells-khan-impression/#respond Mon, 25 May 2020 14:23:59 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/legends-marc-guggenheim-previews-inventive-trip-through-tv-history-dominic-purcells-khan-impression/ Legends of Tomorrow has gone to the past, to the future, and now it’s going inside the tube: On Tuesday’s episode (The CW, 9/8c), Charlie scatters her Waverider teammates throughout various TV shows to protect them from her sisters’ wrath.

The installment marks the television directorial debut of former Arrow EP/current Legends consulting producer Marc Guggenheim, who was given the challenge of not only creating homages to Friends, Star Trek and Downton Abbey, but also had to figure out how not to crack up while shooting the hilarious hour. (Believe me, that’s a very tall task when you’re watching Dominic Purcell channel Khan!)

Below, Guggenheim details the old-school touches he brought to the “inventive” and heartfelt episode, and previews the difficult choice the Legends will face.

TVLINE | Of all the Arrowverse shows, what made Legends the right fit for your directorial debut? Was it just about timing, or was there something specifically about the show itself that made you want to direct it?
It was a little bit about timing. I never really wanted to direct Arrow. I’ve always sort of felt that Arrow is not a show that first-time directors should do — and that’s not to say that we haven’t had first-time directors on Arrow. But just the nature of the show, the nature of the action, it’s not a starter show, and I’ve been saying that, basically, for eight years. It would have been highly hypocritical of me to suddenly direct my first episode [on] Arrow. In Legends, obviously, I’ve worked on and have a closer connection to that show than I do the other shows, so it just made the most sense. Also, with Legends, I knew what kind of support system I would have there.

Legends of Tomorrwo Downton AbbeyTVLINE | As a producer, having some insight into what’s happening on the show, did you handpick this episode? Or was it just random that you got something so magical?
Honestly, the only thing I handpicked was the slot. I wanted to pick an episode that was as far away from “Crisis on Infinite Earths” as I could get, because I didn’t want to be still working post [production] on “Crisis” and directing my first episode of television. As it turns out, there was a little bit of overlap. I did review some visual effects shots for “Crisis” while I was working on this episode.

I said to the writers, “Can you make it easy, please, like a clip show or something?” and then they gave me this, which was definitely throwing me in the deep end of the pool, but I really could not have asked for a better script. I wasn’t quite sure how tempted I would be to rewrite or do any sort of writing work on a script that I directed, and what was so great about the script that Grainne [Godfree] and James [Eagan] wrote was that I was never even tempted. From the very first draft, it was just a fantastic piece of writing. It was inventive, and it was fun, and it had heart to it. It was everything you could ask for in a script, including a huge intimidation factor, because when a script comes in that good, your first instinct is, “I have to make sure I don’t screw it up.”

TVLINE | What can you say about the TV show parodies that we’re going to see in this episode?
It’s Friends, Star Trek [and] Downton Abbey, with a bit of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood thrown in for good measure. What was so much fun about working on these little homages was we shot each one true to the spirit of those individual shows. For example, for Friends, the art department created a set that was like the proscenium, multi-camera set for a half-hour comedy, and we shot it like a multi-cam half-hour. We had three cameras working, and we staged it like you would stage an episode of Friends. With Downton Abbey, we favored long lenses, and when we’re in the kitchen with the servants, we go handheld.

With Star Trek, it’s a lot of dollies and sort of dramatic push-ins. So we really tried to not just make it look like the individual shows, but really make them feel [like the shows]. In fact, with Star Trip, we even shot the spaceships practically. We did miniatures instead of our normal CGI. So we built a Romulan ship, and we built the Faterider, and then we did a whole day of shooting against green screen. We did the old-school technique that, I think, ILM developed for Star Wars, where you move the camera, not the ships, and it creates the illusion that the ship is moving. So we brought out all the old-school techniques.

TVLINE | When you’re directing an episode like this that is so humorous, is it hard to keep a straight face on set? Was there a particular moment that you were just like dying?
So, so many times! Honestly, so many times. The truth of the matter is, a lot of times, if you looked over at me, I had both my hands over my mouth to make sure that I wouldn’t be audibly laughing. Or even, a lot of times, the actors are so great, you want to just yell out, “Yes!” or exclaim just how good this is, like you want to kind of squeal with delight. So it’s a quality problem, but it’s definitely one of the harder aspects of directing a show like this.

Legends of Tomorrow Star TrekTVLINE | I couldn’t decide what was more wonderful: Caity Lotz’s Shatner impression or Dominic Purcell as Khan.
The funny thing about Dom is — and I think they’re both amazing — he’s actually never seen Wrath of Khan. So what you’re seeing there is his impression of my impression of Ricardo Montalbán. Everyone in the cast really absorbed and took to their parts like a duck to water, but Dom, he’s got the Khan bare chest outfit with the long, flowing hair, and he was just having the time of his life. It was really great to see. That’s the great thing about the Legends cast is there’s nothing off-limits. They tackle everything with absolute abandon.

TVLINE | As amusing as this episode is, it’s not just a one-off, funny Episode of the Week. How does it move the story arcs forward?
I think the last three episodes of the season are kind of a trilogy. Episode 13 leads into [Episode] 14, [which] leads into [Episode] 15. Without giving anything away, it says a lot about the relationship that Charlie has with the Legends and the relationship the Legends have with themselves. And in this episode, all the characters have to make a very sort of personal choice. It’s the classic hero’s journey choice of, “Do I live It’s a Wonderful Life, or do I accept reality and all the burdens and consequences that that brings?”

With a detective circling in and a dead body left in their wake, Ruby and Billy’s second-chance love story is about to come crashing down. Life on the Run just isn’t meant to last.

Many questions still remained heading into Sunday’s finale: Would Ruby give up her family for another shot with her former flame, or would the rekindled lovers head straight to jail? Would Ruby ever find out about Billy’s true intentions? (And can we please get a spinoff greenlit for Babe and Laurel!?) Let’s break it all down with a recap.

After fleeing from the bar, Ruby and Billy chase after a truck in the middle of a snowfall. They hop in the back and hitch a ride, and after a quick cut, they’re back to getting frisky on the train. When a server comes to their roomette to deliver a late breakfast, Ruby and Billy realize the woman thought the two “love birds” were in their room the entire night. So if someone asks if they might’ve, you know, jumped off a moving train to murder a woman, the lady could be a key witness in their defense.

Officer Babe Cloud wakes up at Laurel’s house to find her new fling working in the basement. Laurel makes a joke about not telling anyone about their tryst if Cloud lets her buddy Daniel off the hook. (Read the room, Laurel!) The mood immediately sours, as we hear scampering footsteps above them. Turns out Daniel was hiding out at Laurel’s the entire time! Cloud acquires a phone that Daniel throws behind him when escaping, but then arrests Laurel for harboring a fugitive. Looks like this new love is officially on the rocks.

Billy tells Ruby that ever since he found out about her family, he knew she wouldn’t choose him. “I want you to miss me, every day for the rest of your f–king life. I want you to think of me, want me and love me even though you’re with him,” he says. (Geez, obsess much?)

After he tells her she’s the love of his life, Ruby tells Billy she’s going to end it with Laurence. She then admits she never finished his book or watched his talk because she was jealous. “I know,” he says before she punches him.

Ruby forces Billy to let her see his talk on his laptop. While she’s watching, an email notification comes up, which brings Ruby to an email from Fiona. Subject: Don’t Let Ruby See This. Of course she hits play on the video, and it’s Billy’s pitch to book publishers, detailing the trip he was about to take just before he texted “Run” to Ruby. She tells him it was impressive. “I had no idea you were capable of something like that,” she says. “Or maybe I did.”

The cops find out from the truck driver that a man and woman jumped off his truck at the train station. Since Laurel told Cloud they were heading to L.A., the chase is on… only Billy and Ruby still think they got away scot-free.

Laurel and Cloud discover that the phone Daniel left behind is Fiona’s. Cloud calls the most recent number and is connected to Laurence, who then leaves Ruby a message telling her to call the police. We then see Cloud on the phone telling someone, “If you do exactly as I’ve told you, we can work this out… You’re doing the right thing.”

Ruby pulls the train’s emergency brake, and Cloud is right there to hop aboard. The train starts again and the conductor announces they’re only 20 minutes from L.A. Cloud hunts for Billy, while he opens his laptop and realizes what Ruby actually saw.

When the train arrives at Union Station, Billy makes a run for it, cash bag in hand. Outside, he finds Ruby looking dejected, but Laurence and her boys are also on the scene. Billy tells her he loves her and that he’s ready to face the legality awaiting him, but he wants her to choose him and admit that she knows he loves her. “Admit it,” he repeats. With her family looking on, Ruby doesn’t utter a single word back to him. She turns around and walks away.

Did Ruby make the right choice? Did you want to see more of Laurel and Babe? Grade the finale and season below, then hit the comments with your thoughts!

Younger Recap: What Did Liza’s Latest Trip Reveal About Her True Feelings? https://briefnews.eu/younger-recap-what-did-lizas-latest-trip-reveal-about-her-true-feelings/ https://briefnews.eu/younger-recap-what-did-lizas-latest-trip-reveal-about-her-true-feelings/#respond Thu, 25 Jul 2019 04:18:42 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/younger-recap-what-did-lizas-latest-trip-reveal-about-her-true-feelings/

Having already proven herself equipped to handle Molly and lolli-pots, Liza kicked things up a notch on Wednesday’s Younger by ingesting “not LSD” at a microdosing retreat. You know, for work.

So, what did we learn from Liza’s latest trip? For starters — as if there was any doubt — she’s not even remotely over Josh. Not only did she imagine hooking up with him on their first night at the retreat, but she also told this to one of the friendly nurses: “Josh is so beautiful! Every time I look at him, I have flashes of our sex. Oh, Maureen, our sex!” Liza clarified that sex is also “really hot with Charles,” though not with the same enthusiasm.

Naturally, Liza’s indecision — coupled with that sweet, sweet “not LSD” coursing through her system — resulted in a trippy little tango, with both suitors joining her on the dance floor. As a forever-recovering Bunheads fan, I’m always down to watch Sutton Foster doing what she does best, and as a thriving Younger fan, I’m always down to watch her roll around on the floor and take selfies with a houseplant. So this was a win-win for me.

The retreat also turned out to be a win for Charles, who realized that the competition between Millennial and Mercury was hurting his “family” (aka his former co-workers). By selling Mercury to Millennial for $ 1 and agreeing to work under Kelsey as an editor, Charles nobly put an end to the Great Publishing Wars of 2019. (In other news, has anyone seen Quinn lately?)

Elsewhere this week…

* By simply reciting a passage from the book aloud in her iconic smoky tone, Diana accidentally auditioned to read the audiobook for The Seasoned Slut. And while she wasn’t initially crazy about the idea, Diana eventually grew to care for her new position. (“I thought maybe I could hit ‘nipple’ a little harder.”)

* Speaking of audiobooks, Audrey Colbert made an unsettling return this week to record her own memoir. After seeing firsthand how easily she feigned emotion in the studio, Zane conceded that she’s “hot but scary,” while Kelsey straight-up admitted that she thinks Audrey is guilty. Unfortunately, they forgot to take their hand off the speaker button, so she heard everything they said. (Kelsey and Zane may not be sleeping together at the moment, but I sure hope they’re both sleeping with one eye open.)

* After being overlooked at her favorite bar, Maggie feared she’d lost her mojo. But when a ceiling painting accident left her suspended upside down, attracting the attention of a peeping perv across the street, she realized she’s still got it going on. For something so brief, this subplot was… a lot.

  • President Donald Trump on Thursday canceled the US delegation’s annual trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, “out of consideration” for the furloughed federal employees amid the ongoing partial government shutdown.
  • Trump attended the forum in 2018 but was expected to send a delegation of senior US officials this year.
  • The decision follows Trump’s move to cancel a military flight that was set to transport House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other congress members to Afghanistan.

President Donald Trump on Thursday canceled the US delegation’s annual trip to the World Economic Forum “out of consideration” for the furloughed federal employees amid the ongoing partial government shutdown.

“Out of consideration for the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay and to ensure his team can assist as needed, President Trump has canceled his Delegation’s trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.
