Dearon “Deezer D” Thompson, who played nurse Malik McGrath on the long-running NBC medical drama ER, died on Thursday at the age of 55. Thompson’s brother Marshawn told TMZ that the actor was found unresponsive in his Los Angeles home. The family believes he died of a heart attack — he previously underwent open-heart surgery in 2009 — but an official cause of death has not been disclosed. “What a special spirit we have all lost!” ER‘s Mekhi Phifer wrote on Instagram. “Since the first day I met him on the set of ER he absolutely made me feel at home and welcomed. My brother will forever be missed! Many condolences to his friends, fans and family. RIP Deezer D!!” Added Parminder Nagra, “This is so incredibly sad.” Thompson recurred throughout all 15 seasons of ER, including the 1994 pilot and the 2009 series finale. All told, he appeared in 190 episodes. Prior to ER, Thompson had a starring role in the Chris Rock film CB4. Additional credits included Bringing Down the House, The John Larroquette Show, and Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion. He also worked as a motivational speaker and hip hop performer. Lyn Alicia Henderson, who recurred on ER as Nurse Pamela Olbes, also paid her respects. “I am so sorry to hear of his passing,” she wrote. “He had a spirit that was bigger than life and we always had the best conversations! I loved his music, his love of God and his love for his family. He will be missed!” Arrow cast and producers aimed to hit the emotional bull’s-eye by sharing fond memories and powerful tributes as The CW’s flagship Arrowverse series filmed its final scenes on Wednesday. Series lead Stephen Amell got the ball running days ago, by sharing the above photo and noting, “Tonight is the last night I wear the Arrow suit.” But when the actual final day of filming arrived, consulting producer/former showrunner Marc Guggenheim tweeted out the note he shared with cast and crew, from him and current showrunner Beth Schwartz — seen below: This. https://t.co/nHA40vTQoL— Schwartz herself remembered on Twitter how she “ordered a milkshake to my room after my very first night shoot [in Vancouver] and thought, ‘Wow, I really made it.’ I didn’t realize then that going to Vancouver would become the norm over the next eight years, that I would meet amazing people and work with incredible talent…. I will be forever grateful for this crazy and wonderful ride.” Among original cast members, David Ramsey shared, “During my last week on Arrow, a lot of things fill my mind… but mostly family,” while Katie Cassidy Rodgers passed along a BTS group photo, remarking: “The amount of love and respect I have for this brilliant cast is insane. I couldn’t imagine the long nights with anyone else….. You all have inspired me in so many ways and I’m blessed to have been a part of this incredible journey.” Juliana Harkavy shared a photo she took upon landing the role of Dinah Drake, who debuted midway through Season 5. “I took this photo almost four years ago. I’d just gotten off a call with Warner Bros. where I learned my life was about to change forever. My journey on Arrow had begun,” she wrote on Instagram. “I hope you enjoy this final season. And I hope when you look back, you’ll find this story has moved you, inspired you, and changed you for the better. Because of #Arrow, I have been changed, for good.” To that, Amell replied, “It’s cool when you get to work on your dream job and also become best friends with someone” — a recurring theme among the cast’s social media expressions. Colin Donnell, for example, recalled meeting Amell “and seeing the amount of sushi he was gonna down post-training session,” as well as “our first day of shooting spent laying on a wet pallet, and not wanting it to end. “I’m proud to have been a part of it over the last eight seasons,” Tommy’s off-and-on portrayer continued, “but here’s what’s even more wonderful: I have always said that as I move from job to job, I’m lucky if I get to keep ONE good friend after I move on. With Arrow I’ve kept more than I thought possible.” Colton Haynes similarly hailed the “beautiful humans [who] were with me through all the good and sad times and helped me through more than I can ever repay them for.” He then thanked Arrowverse overlord Greg Berlanti “for bringing me on this wonderful journey.” Katherine McNamara, who joined Arrow midway through Season 7 and now is poised to co-star with Cassidy Rodgers and Harkavy on a potential offshoot, recalled, “When I began this job, I was poised and ready, excited to jump in and take on a legacy of being Olicity’s kid — to create such a rich, conflicted character based on a beloved relationship built by two brilliant actors for whom I have so much respect. “What I found was a family who welcomed me in… who joined and supported my enthusiasm in bringing Mia Smoak-Queen to life,” she added. “No matter what the future holds, long live Star City.” Arrow resumes its final, 10-episode season on Tuesday, Nov. 19. The series finale is set to air Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020. Want more scoop on Arrow, or for any other show? Email InsideLine@tvline.com and your question may be answered via Matt’s Inside Line. Comic Relief took over the BBC last night as a whole host of famous faces gathered to help raise money for charity. One celebrity who was due to perform as the headline act of the evening was Louis Tomlinson. But due to the sudden death of his sister, Felicite Tomlinson on Wednesday afternoon, the former One Director band member understandably pulled out of the commitment. Those watching Comic Relief saw host Lenny Henry send out a brief tribute of condolences and well wishes to the songwriter and his family during this difficult time. He said: “Tonight, we were due to be joined by a special member of the Comic Relief family. Louis Tomlinson wanted to be on this stage to help us, but the sudden and tragic loss of his sister Felicite, obviously means he can’t be here. “The love and best wishes of all of us at Comic Relief go out to Louis and his family at this terrible time,” he concluded. Louis who was due to sing his newly released single Two Of Us, which was an emotional ballad to his late mother Johannah Deakin, who sadly passed away in 2016 following a battle with leukaemia, has pulled out of all promotional commitments since the news broke. It comes after Scotland Yard said police were called by London Ambulance Service at 12:52 on Wednesday 13 March to a residential address following reports of a woman having a cardiac arrest. “A female believed to be aged 18 as pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course,” the official statement read. According to The Sun, a person who was with Felicite called 999, whereby two ambulance crews, alongside an experienced paramedic and a single responder medic in a car arrived. This year’s Red Nose Day raised over a staggering £63 million for charity and the funds will go towards supporting projects both here in the UK and abroad. The evening saw an array of performances, stories and sketches, but one in particular send the nation into a frenzy. Those watching at home were given a potential sneak peak in Bodyguard season two, or at least a major spoiler. In the short clip, PS David Budd (played by Richard Madden) was back protecting a new Prime Minister, Joanna Lumley. However, it was in a tense moment when the boot was opened a familiar face was seen staring back. None other than a very-much-alive Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes) was seen exclaiming: “Busted!” But what following sent fans into high suspicion over whether or not the hit BBC drama would be returning, and if so whether the fan-favourite character was indeed dead or alive. Jumping into the back of the car, David did not seem surprised to see Julia. And she asked the question everyone wanted to know the answer to: “Do you know if I’m in series two?” and David clarified: “You’re dead.” But Julia threw a spanner into the works when she said: “Am I?” Comic Relief is available to watch on the BBC iPlayer. Ronaldo looks set to complete a shock move to Serie A champions Juventus to end his Real Madrid career after nine seasons. Cristiano Ronaldo has won four Champions Leagues with Real Madrid and is a five-time Ballon d’Or winner. But the curtain looks set to close on an incredible relationship with Juve bidding £88m to sign the 33-year-old. He will be paid around £26m a season with Fiat believed to be helping Juve around the FFP issues. Juve are also expected to sell Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala, with Liverpool making their move for the latter. And Spanish publication Marca claim Real want to give Ronaldo a proper send-off when the transfer is complete. Juve are hoping to do a deal in time to unveil Ronaldo this Saturday, and while details are not yet known Real want to pay tribute to the Portugal super star. Jorge Mendes and Florentino Perez have held talks this evening to discuss the transfer and more details are expected to emerge over the next 24 hours. Former Juventus CEO Luciano Moggi claimed Ronaldo has already undergone a medical and is a Juve player. “In my opinion, he has already signed and passed the medical examination with Juventus in Munich,” Moggi told Italian TV network Tele7Gold. “This is what I think after talking to important people.” Ronaldo hinted at a Real Madrid exit in May following the Champions League final in Kiev, and the wheels are now in motion. Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has claimed Ronaldo’s head is already in Madrid. “In his head, Cristiano is a Juventus player,” Balague wrote on Twitter. “Juve has found a financial way to pay for his wages and fee. Real Madrid willing to let him go. “No offer has arrived yet to Real, but Jorge Mendes has confirmed to Real that it will. He has never been this close to leaving. Will he?” He then added: “Ronaldo wants to go, Juve optimistic about getting him and, Real? “If he wants to go so desperately they will open the door. But ONLY for the right offer.” It has been claimed Juan Cuardado will give up his No 7 shirt for Ronaldo to take when he joins. Ronaldo, 33, joined Madrid from Manchester United for £80m – a world record fee at the time – and has become one of the greatest players in history. He scored his 400th club goal in May – after a dispute about one – and is the highest scorer in European competitions with 158. Ronaldo is also the highest scoring European international player with 85, fewer only than Ali Daei in world football. Ronaldo’s departure may leave a bitter taste in the mouth after disagreements over contracts and promises broke. Ronaldo wanted parity with the top earners in the game – Neymar and Lionel Messi – and was promised a new deal by Perez, only to be let down. In January he claimed if he was sold for £88m it proved he was unloved. But now Madrid appear to be making room for the next generation, with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in line to be heir to the throne. And Ronaldo has already begun hunting for houses in Turin and he plans for the next chapter in his career. There has been talk of a departure in the past – including last summer – but end does really appear to be here this time. His agent Mendes admitted: “If that happens it will be just a new stage and a new challenge in his brilliant career. “If Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Real Madrid he will remain eternally grateful to the club, the president, all the management, all the medical personnel, all the officials without exception, the Adepts and all the Madridistas scattered around the world.”

]]>Regis, who became an icon at West Brom and Coventry during the 1970s and ‘80s, suffered a suspected cardiac arrest.
He was part of a West Brom side that included the iconic black players Laurie Cunningham and Brendon Batson.
The trio, who became known as ‘The Three Degrees’, paved the way for more black players to break into English football at a time where racism in the game was commonplace.
A statue of ‘The Three Degrees’, called The Celebration, was unveiled in West Bromwich in 2014.
Regis said at the time: “We were part of that first generation of black players in this country and I’m sure that if you ask any second generation player they will tell you they were inspired by Laurie. That’s why the statue will be so important.”

Regis was born in French Guiana in February 1958 but moved to London with his family at the age of five.
He did not come through the youth ranks with a professional club and was instead spotted playing Sunday morning football by the chairman of Surrey non-league club Molesey.
West Brom signed him for £5,000 in May 1977 and he made a spectacular start, scoring twice in a League Cup tie against Rotherham in September of that year.
He was voted the PFA Young Player of the Year for 1978.

Regis played for eight seasons at West Brom, where he scored 112 goals in 297 appearances.
He moved to Coventry in 1985 and won the FA Cup three years later.
Regis earned his first of five England caps in 1982, eventually retiring in October 1996 after a stint at Chester City.
He also played for Aston Villa, Wolves and Wycombe.
He was appointed an MBE in 2008 and returned to West Brom as a coach before becoming a football agent.

Regis wrote about the day he was sent a bullet in the post when reflecting on his England debut in 1982.
He wrote: “Clearly someone did not approve of my selection because they had cut out individual letters from a newspaper and stuck them on a sheet of paper to spell out a message that read, ‘If you put your foot on our Wembley turf, you’ll get one of these through your knees’.
“I looked into the envelope and there was a cotton-wool pad wrapped round something. I took it out, opened it up and there it was: a bullet staring up at me.
“I have still got it to this day. The letter soon got binned, but I kept the bullet as a reminder of the force of anger and evil some people had inside them back then.
“For the rest of my playing days, it was also a motivation, a reminder that these people were not going to stop me.”

A pivotal figure in the St James’ Park club’s rise during the 1990s, he was chairman for 10 years from 1997.
Shepherd eventually sold his share of the club to Mike Ashley and recently, along with brother Bruce, was granted the freedom of the city of Newcastle.
“Freddy Shepherd, former chairman of Newcastle United and chairman of Shepherd Offshore Group and Triple S Sports & Entertainment Group, sadly passed away peacefully at his home last night,” his family said in a statement.
“At this difficult time the family have asked that their privacy be respected.”
Legendary Newcastle striker Alan Shearer lead the tributes to Shepherd by tweeting: “So sad to hear my great friend and former @NUFC chairman Freddy Shepherd has passed away. I owe him a huge debt for bringing me home. RIP.”
Born and bred in the north east, Shepherd was the owner and managing director of the Shepherd Offshore Group for more than 40 years.
He set up the Triple S group in 2008 but is best known for his influential role at Newcastle.
A director of the Magpies from 1992 until 2007, Shepherd served as vice-chairman to Sir John Hall as the club finished Premier League runners-up in both 1996 and 1997, playing a key role in signing Alan Shearer from Blackburn for a world-record £15million.
Shepherd became Newcastle chairman in 1997 and oversaw several dalliances with the Champions League, while his decision to appoint Sir Bobby Robson saw United finish as high as third in 2003.
A tribute to Shepherd on the Newcastle Chronicle read: “Born in 1941, the local business magnate rose from humble roots and became an important fixture of North East life and business.
“Through his relationship with club owner John Hall, Freddy was a pivotal figure at the club throughout the 90s and was at the centre of many of its most important days.
“Pivotal in bring Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer to the club, Freddy was at the heart of the scene during the team’s greatest years and was key in pulling together the ‘Entertainers’ team.
“He also came to be one of the most important business figures in the region, described by the Financial Times in 2010 as a “North East oligarch”.
“The son of a lorry driver, his business career began in the haulage business and would eventually end with a multi-million pound empire.
“Freddy made his fortune through property development, particularly along the banks of the River Tyne, and ran Shepherd Offshore Group with his brother Bruce.”
Alan Shearer – “So sad to hear my great friend and former NUFC chairman Freddy Shepherd has passed away. I owe him a huge debt for bringing me home. RIP.”
Chi Onwurah (MP for Newcastle Central) – “I’m sad to to learn of Freddy’s death and my thoughts are with his family. He made a huge contribution to Newcastle – both the football team and the economy. Freddy was a massively significant figure in the region and his association with our football team will ensure his place in the folklore of the city.”
Steve Harper – “Very sad to hear the news about Freddie Shepherd. He took NUFC to mixing it with the big boys. Thoughts with his family #RIPChairman.”
Malcolm Dix (Newcastle United’s vice life-president) – “I’m so sorry to hear this news. We had our differences over the years of course, but Freddy was always a larger than life character, a fellow who put his heart and soul everything he did. At Newcastle United he did as much as he could in terms of strengthening the team. And from a business point of view he’ll be a great miss. Together with his brother they did an awful lot of good for the North East. His heart was in the football club, you can’t deny that at all.”
Newcastle FC – “We are saddened to hear of the passing of former Newcastle United chairman, Freddy Shepherd. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Cheick Tiote has tragically lost his life
Tiote, who went on to play in two World Cups for his country and become a Premier League regular, claimed he did not even see a pair for five years after taking up the sport.
“I played barefoot,” the midfielder recalled to reporters in 2010. “With bare feet I actually had better contact with the ball and it helped me develop.”
This morning, the football world is mourning the man with “the big smile” after he died suddenly yesterday aged 30.
One of 10 siblings, Tiote’s nascent talent was spotted by scouts from Anderlecht and in 2005, at the age of 19, he signed a three-year contract with the Belgian club.
Tiote’s remarkable trajectory took him into a Champions League debut the following year, but injuries hampered his progress and he was farmed out for a loan spell at Roda JC in Holland.
In 2008, Tiote moved to FC Twente, linking up with former Middlesbrough and England manager Steve McClaren, who would play no small part in convincing the player that his next significant port of call should be the north-east of England.
Tiote’s successful stint at Twente coincided with the club winning their first Eredivisie title in 2010, the same year in which Tiote would also make his international breakthrough, featuring in all the Ivory Coast’s World Cup games in South Africa.
His reputation as a combative, ball-playing midfielder attracted the attention of Newcastle, for whom he signed in a £3.5million deal in August 2010 – a deal which was extended to six and a half years the following summer.
And Tiote scored just one goal in 156 games – but it was a goal which has become one of the most iconic ever scored at St James’s Park.
Memories of that stunning volley against Arsenal on February 5, 2011, will serve as a lasting tribute.

Cheick Tiote celebrates his wonder goal against Arsenal
Cheick was a warrior on the pitch but a big kid off it
It capped a remarkable comeback by Alan Pardew’s side, who trailed 4-0 at half-time before scoring four times after the break, with Tiote smashing home a stunning 30-yard volley in the last few minutes to earn the unlikeliest of draws.
The goal ensured that every time he took possession with the goal in his sights, the Toon Army would invariably break into a collective chant of “Shoot, shoot”.
Tiote, however, never did manage to replicate his “piece de resistance” but he continued to earn mass approval for his wholehearted displays in the Newcastle engine room.
He picked up 15 bookings during that first season in English football, including a run of eight yellow cards in 11 games and 14 the following year but falling foul of officialdom owed more to a steely determination than any malice.
At one stage, it looked as if Tiote’s time on Tyneside would be short-lived, with Manchester United and Arsenal both keen on him but he remained a fixture in the Newcastle engine room for the next four seasons before injuries hit him hard.
Tiote eventually left Newcastle last summer moving to China, where his close pal Papiss Cisse was now plying his trade.
Former Newcastle coach and manager John Carver kept in touch with Tiote throughout his time in Beijing and has been left stunned by the tragic news.
“I loved Cheick to bits,” he said. “I’m absolutely devastated. We spoke regularly and it was only a couple of weeks ago that we last chatted. Cheick was a warrior on the pitch but a big kid off it.
“I’ll never forget that big smile of his.
GETTY
Cheick Tiote was a first-team regular at Newcastle
“Fans and opponents will recall him as a footballer who was hard as nails but those of us who knew him closely will remember him as a real softie and a lovely human being.”
Newcastle said in a statement: “We are devastated to have learnt of the tragic passing of Cheick Tiote. The thoughts of everyone at Newcastle are with Cheick’s family, friends, team-mates and everyone with the clubs he represented.”
Cisse tweeted: “Goodnight brother. You will be missed. Gone too soon.”
And ex-Newcastle keeper Steve Harper posted: “Gutted to hear the awful news about my former team-mate.”
Tiote’s passing means Newcastle have now lost three popular players in the Premier League era following the deaths of Gary Speed and Pavel Srnicek.
Football is in mourning again. But those memories will live on.
