Though you may remember Fred Durst from his days as the front man for the rap rock group Limp Bizkit, you may not know that Durst has dabbled in being a director. In addition to directing music videos for his own band, as well as videos for Korn and Staind, he’s also went behind the camera for the comedy The Longshots and the indie drama The Education of Charlie Banks. Now, he has a new thriller on the way that is inspired by a certain event from his Limp Bizkit days.

Fred Durst is currently down in Alabama with cameras rollin’, rollin’, rollin on a thriller called Moose, which was inspired by a real-life fan who stalked the musical artist during his more popular days. John Travolta will play the stalker, but his target isn’t a red cap-wearing rap rocker.

Variety has word on Moose, which sees John Travolta as the titular character, a movie fan who has a dangerous obsession with a celebrity action hero. What starts off as a simple fixation turns into an ambition to destroy the star’s life. What’s interesting is that Devon Sawa, famous for playing the Eminem fan “Stan” from the rapper’s famous track off The Marshall Mathers LP, is playing the action hero.

Durst hasn’t really had a breakout film as a director or writer yet, but there’s a chance this could be it. After all, John Travolta is creepy enough in real life that him playing a stalker isn’t too much of a stretch. It could be a mesmerizing performance, or at the very least an unsettling one. Would that be enough for you to seek about a Fred Durst John Travolta movie?

Durst wrote the script with Dave Bekerman based on his own life experiences. Media Finance Capital and Amibi Media Group is financing the movie, with Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi producing for the latter. Oscar Generale and Daniel Grodnik of Wonderfilm Media are also producing. David Gilbery and Charles Dorfman are acting as executive producers for Media Finance Captial, joined by Richard Salvatore, Kirk Shaw, Bret Saxon, and Jeff Bowler.

Travolta is actually fresh off working with Ambi Media Group on a stock car racing drama called Trading Paint. That movie is in post-production, but we haven’t heard much about it. Hopefully, these movies turn out to be more than just straight-to-video fodder, but we’ll have to wait and see.

John Travolta (Pulp Fiction, American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson) has been wanting to star in a movie about 1980s New York City crime boss John “The Teflon Don” Gotti since 2011, and after going through multiple iterations and spending years in development hell, the film is finally ready. Here, at long last, is the first trailer for Gotti, which ended up being directed by Kevin Connolly: yep, the guy who played “E” on HBO’s Entourage. And weirdly, this movie seems like a fake film you’d see in the background of an Entourage episode.

For a movie that once had Nick Cassavetes (John Q, Alpha Dog) and Barry Levinson (Sleepers, Good Morning Vietnam) lined up to direct and people like Ben Foster, James Franco, Joe Pesci, and Lindsay Lohan attached, this sure seems like it’s experienced a long fall on its way to the big screen. Finally landing at Lionsgate Premiere – Lionsgate’s specialty film division responsible for releasing lower-budget films theatrically and through video on demand platforms – doesn’t exactly bode well for this one, either.

And that’s not even taking into account what we see in the trailer itself, which plays like a greatest hits of every modern gangster story ever made. The real-life Gotti – a larger-than-life personality who earned minor celebrity status due to his flashy clothes and outspoken appearances on TV – may have influenced some of those films, but when a director decides to tell a story like this, they have to take those later works into account. It’s the John Carter syndrome: that original story inspired many other sci-fi movies, but because its film adaptation didn’t come out until years after those had already established many of the genre’s tropes, it was seen by some as a sad rip-off. To avoid that, it helps if a director brings something new to the table and not just put money in the jukebox to play the hits once again.

The trailer seems to give away every single facet of the film’s story, culminating with a shot of Travolta in some questionable old-age makeup that doesn’t do a lot to inspire confidence. Anyone out there have hope for this one?

GOTTI follows infamous crime boss John Gotti’s (John Travolta) rise to become the “Teflon Don” of the Gambino Crime Family in New York City. Spanning three decades and recounted by his son John Jr. (Spencer Lofranco), GOTTI examines Gotti’s tumultuous life as he and his wife (Kelly Preston) attempt to hold the family together amongst tragedy and multiple prison sentences. GOTTI is a crime drama directed by Kevin Connolly and written by Leo Rossi and Lem Dobbs.

Kelly Preston, Stacy Keach, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Spencer Lofranco co-star, and Gotti arrives in theaters and VOD on December 15, 2017.

Stayin’ Alive: A Grammy Salute to the Music of the Bee Gees saw stars including Celine Dion, Demi Lovato, John Legend and Nick Jonas perform songs from the Bee Gees’ back catalogue alongside the last surviving Gibb brother.

Gibb closed the show, which aired on CBS on Sunday, with renditions of You Should Be Dancing and the group’s signature track Stayin’ Alive. 

John Travolta, who jived through the streets of New York to Stayin’ Alive in the legendary opening scenes of Saturday Night Fever, was on hand to reprise his dance moves and posed for a photo with Gibb, whose trademark blond hairdo had hardly changed since the band’s heyday. 

Saturday Night Fever was almost a very different movie; Robin Gibb, who died in 2012 after suffering complications from colorectal cancer, said in a Bee Gees biography that the band almost turned down the chance to write music for the film.

Earlier this year at the Grammys, Demi Lovato fronted a tribute performance to the Bee Gees to mark the 40th anniversary of the Grammy-winning Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, before performing at the full concert – which was recorded in February – two days later.

Although the star has not divulged what exactly the duo have in mind, she said whilst collecting the Icon prize at the Fame Awards in Las Vegas that the wheels are in motion.

“We are thinking up ways. Nothing to announce yet,” she teased.

“Forty years anniversary of Grease, which I can’t believe.”

She added: “Time goes so fast. It is so exciting.”

According to the Mirror, the 68-year-old also revealed that she often thinks of retiring from show-business

“Every year for the last 20 years, I thought I was retiring and then somebody would say, ‘How about this?’ and it’s like, ‘Oh, that looks fun,’ or ‘How about this?’” she said.

“Things that I would never think about.”

She last collaborated with Travolta on a song, I Think You Might Like It, back in 2012.

Grease was released in 1978 and became an instant smash hit.

On a budget of just $ 6 million, it took $ 395 million worldwide and remains a cult classic today.

A sequel, Grease 2, was released in 1982 with Michelle Pfeiffer and Maxwell Caulfield.

Last year a shock theory claimed that Danny and Sandy were, in fact, dead throughout.
