Rumours are circling that the fifth season may not actually be the Netflix series’ last. Originally airing on Fox, Lucifer was picked up by the streaming platform for two more exciting seasons. After the stunning season finale, anything could happen when the fantasy procedural returns later this year.

Season four ended decisively when Chloe Decker (played by Lauren German) admitted her love for Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), confirming that the prophecy was true.

Father Kinley (Graham McTavish) confided to Chloe that evil would be unleashed when Lucifer was with his first love.

Chloe tells Lucifer she loves him, and the season concluded with the Devil reclaiming his throne in Hell, seemingly proving the prophecy correct.

However, many fans considered the season finale to be pretty ambiguous, and there is still considerable speculation as to how the events of season five will transpire.

It’s widely believed that the series will eventually conclude for good with Lucifer and Chloe sealing their relationship and living happily ever after.

Although, this is a very optimistic take and some fans know better than to expect things to turn out for the best in the frequently bleak series.

One fan took to Reddit to propose some theories for the upcoming season.

User nasuia said: “Spoilers imply that things won’t be exactly rosy and that we won’t have an easy, happy end.

“On the other hand, I find it impossible that Lucifer and Chloe may not end up together.”

After such a lengthy build-up, it would be crushing if the series concludes with the fan favourite couple being forced apart.

They continued: “When Chloe said to Lucifer that she loved him, he didn’t say ‘I love you’ back. So, maybe, if Lucifer tells somebody ‘I love you’ and really means it, then the curse that makes him the Devil will be lifted and he will be reinstated in Heaven as his angel self, again.”

Despite the fact Chloe confessed her love to Lucifer, the writers of the series made sure that he didn’t say anything back, leaving the next season open to multiple prophetic possibilities.

Even though it would be distressing to see Lucifer fall in love with someone else, this fan points out that it may be necessary for the couple to eventually find their way back to each other.

They added: “Maybe Chloe will be about to die and Lucifer won’t be able to reverse it as he did all the other times.

“So, desperate to follow her to Heaven, he says ‘I love you’ to her, and finds himself in Heaven beside her.”

Sometimes a bittersweet ending is the only way to properly conclude a series as twisted as Lucifer.

Many fan theories have speculated that Lucifer or Chloe will have to alter themselves in some way to sustain their relationship.

This speculation is the latest in a long line of suggestions for how the end of the show will go down.

However, now season six is back on the cards, fans may be teased with yet another shocking season finale and have to wait all over again for the fates of Lucifer and Chloe to be revealed.

Lucifer season 4 is streaming on Netflix now.

16 Killer Techniques to Help You Transform Your Attitude for Success https://briefnews.eu/16-killer-techniques-to-help-you-transform-your-attitude-for-success/ https://briefnews.eu/16-killer-techniques-to-help-you-transform-your-attitude-for-success/#respond Wed, 29 Aug 2018 22:01:23 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/16-killer-techniques-to-help-you-transform-your-attitude-for-success/ Do you constantly think about living your dream? Everyone faces doubt or negativity at some point. It’s important to remember that your attitude is the difference maker in determining whether your dreams become a success or failure.Zig Ziglar once said,

“Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.”

Your mindset impacts everything you do and may even hold limitations on what you can do. When you have a negative attitude, you will subconsciously manifest or spread negativity into your way of thinking, your work and even the people closest to you.On the other hand, having the right attitude for success will make you more receptive to new ideas, think of better ways to overcome challenges and you will start noticing more new opportunities. From personal development tips to productivity, how are you supposed to know which techniques you should apply and which will lead you down the path of success? There are countless tips available but these 16 methods will keep you positive no matter what challenge you face and help you create the right attitude for success.

16 Promising ways to change your attitude

Fighting negativity doesn’t have to be as boring or as complicated as many people think.

1. Take a vacation!

There are hidden advantages to taking a vacation and a huge correlation between holiday and success.

  • Increased productivity: You will be more productive if you take vacations, it’s been proven time and time again. Restoration is rooted in our physiology, humans are not meant to spend energy continuously.
  • Newer perspectives: Stay away from work for a while and do something enjoyable. When you go back to work, you will have a whole new outlook on life.
  • Increased mental strength: Working non-stop and getting things done may make you think you are on top of the world. But your mind feels something else entirely. A study by the University of California’s Gregory Hickock University found that our brains do not have reservoirs to collect energy and power. Vacations can help reset your mind.
  • Improving mental health: The US News and World Report have spoken with experts who have indicated that one of the main benefits of a vacation is that it can improve your mental health.((US News and World Report: The Benefits of Taking Time Off)) Confidence of calm and ease relieve stress, which allows the body and mind to heal in ways that it cannot if it was still under pressure.

Burning yourself out is not an effective use of your time and is quite detrimental to your success. Take some time to clear your mind. If it is not vacation at least plan a break.

2. Study the habits of successful people.

Daily habits are a key to success. People have zero control over the world politics, weather, and similar circumstances. But we control ourselves and our habits, rituals, and routine. And, while we all can learn successful habits, it is meaningless if we do not apply this knowledge.Find everyday habits of very successful people that fall within your wheelhouse and those habits you can adopt more easily to create the life you really want to live. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Just do what the wheel-maker does. Observe and imitate the time management experts around you.

3. Make a daily list.

All successful individuals must train themselves to work out a daily to-do list. Think of how important it is for a pilot to use a checklist before each takeoff. That is how effective and successful people should be as well.Take a few minutes to create a “to do” list to use to get through the day.The best time to make the list is the night before. By doing this, your subconscious begins to work on your list as you sleep. This way, when you wake up each morning, you can have amazing insights and ideas which will assist you in achieving some of the most important goals on your list.At the end of each day, the last thing you do should be to plan out the next day. Making a list helps you organize priorities and keeps you on track throughout the day.

4. Eliminate needless interruptions.

You have to understand that each of us has the same 24 hours a day as Mark Cuban, Bill Gates, Will Smith, Oprah, Richard Branson and Henry Ford. It’s how we manage ourselves within a time frame that makes all the difference.Start eliminating unnecessary distractions during the day. Research has shown that it can take our brains up to 20 minutes to recover from one single interruption. So, let’s say you are faced with only three unnecessary distractions every day, you lose an hour of productivity. This can add up to six 40-hour weeks, that’s 240 hours per year. Or better yet, if you bill by the hour, at even $ 50 per hour, that is $ 12,000 lost revenue.Close the office door. Post a sign that says, “conference” if you need to. Let your secretary, voicemail, or answering machine record your messages, then return calls at once.Designate times to check email.Start taking control of your time, your calendar, and your life right now with this one tip. Learn how to remove distractions from life:10 Critical Tips to Prevent Distraction and Sharpen Your Focus

5. Organize and prioritize.

Organize living and workspaces. Don’t let clutter accumulate. Clean as you go. Unorganized space is not only ineffective and counterproductive, it is psychologically exhausting. Select one area to organize each day for 30 days. Start in the space where you spend most of your work time. If you have an area that bothers you the most, start there instead.Prioritize. Complete one task before starting to do something else or stopping at least a natural stopping point. Try to bring closure to tasks, or “trim” large tasks into smaller components so that you work on it a little bit at a time while ensuring they always progress. Find out more about how to prioritize here:How to Prioritize Right in 10 Minutes and Work 10X FasterDeveloping keen organizational skills eliminates unnecessary ineffectiveness and enables individuals to efficiently achieve their goals. So, attack the beast one of two ways.Either bag up everything out of place in each area. Then empty each bag/box/bin one at a time and put things away. Or, if the idea of an organization overwhelms you, hire a professional to do it for you.

6. Surround yourself with positivity.

It is important to continue feeding your brain with happy, loving memories.Recreate those moments that once smiled at you. Remember the times of happiness such as something that encourages you, a birthday party, an outing with friends, a special holiday or your favorite songs. While you are learning to change your mindset, music can help speed up the process. The effects and benefits of music on the brain are many and are not confined to a single genre, as long as they match your musical preferences. In this way, it is the connection of the brain to familiar and valued music, which is the key.Experts recommend different genres for different purposes. Optimistic music, for example, includes songs with positive words, can provide energy boosts and get your mind primed for learning. While instrumental music and relaxing genres can help you stay calm and focused.Ambient music, according to a study from the University of Chicago increases abstract brain processes, which are responsible for creative thinking.Studies from the Department of Psychology at the University of London have found that listening to happy music can make us see the faces of people in a positive light – even if they wear an empty expression. So, throw on some headphones, get in front of the mirror and have at it.Music has an active influence on your mind. Understanding how music and your brain interact, and how to tune your music consumption to maximum impact, can affect how you feel, think, learn, and you achieve success.

7. Get rid of negative people.

Keep naysayers and negative people out of your life as much as possible. You need all the happiness and love you can surround yourself with if you want to constantly focus and work towards your dreams. Remember you’re creating the opportunity to achieve a dream, not a nightmare.First, remember that “like attracts like” – this is universal law. To have positive experiences, you need to have a positive opinion of yourself, evaluate then appreciate the lessons learned from life experiences and your current situations. When you are in a positive mood, you will attract positivity.Embrace relationships that empower, excite and motivate you to be your best, and do the same for others in return. Stay surrounded with positive people who believe in your dreams and cheer you up. The longer you stay focused and positive, the more positive people you will have in your life.Part of having a positive opinion of yourself is believing in yourself. People can feel whether you believe in yourself or not. When you do not believe in yourself, then you will find that you attract others who are struggling with believing in themselves too.Recognize your strengths, gifts and talents, physical beauty and features. Be nice to yourself daily by positive self-talk. When you believe in yourself, you will respect your truth which will attract optimistic people to you.It is very rewarding to be surrounded by positive people; understand it takes time to practice how to be consciously aware of your thoughts and change them from negative to positive. When negative thoughts come to mind just let them go and exchange them with self-affirmative, positive thoughts that support your goals.

8. Listen to teaching tapes in the car.

Instead of being stressed out by traffic, and frustrated by the radio, you can engage your brain, learn another language, improve your sales, business, and management skills, and master the latest strategies for success by listening to tapes during drive time.Spotify and Amazon have thousands of audios that you can listen to whether you need to buy the actual disk or listen through Bluetooth.

9. Utilize waiting time.

Waiting time can drive us crazy. Instead, think of this time as an opportunity to be used to your advantage. When you look at your daily to-do list, identify places that you are likely to wait and start productively using the time. One of the worst traps in falling victim to waiting is the trap of not thinking. We want time to go as fast as we can, so we allow ourselves to sink into an uncomfortable brain fog, convincing ourselves it’s a much-needed break. Do not let that happen it does not make waiting time any better. Keep yourself busy and stimulated, even if it means looking out a window or finally replying to those emails.Always keep a book that you want to read in your car or desk so you can make use of the time you spend waiting for those meetings. Recognize the waiting time is no different from another available time. We all have to use time productively, so that the time waiting is not wasted.

10. Eat for positivity.

Eating is not just the thing we do when we are hungry. Eating is an experience tied strongly to the emotional circuits in the brain. There is an emotional association of food that is further compounded by memories summoned by the smell, texture and look of a visually pleasing meal. This holds a strong correlation over your attitude and the food you eat:

  • Create good memories with good food. Your busy schedule may not allow you to sit and enjoy each meal every day. But no matter the amount of time you have, maintain your focus on your meal using all senses, it is key to your well-being and the emotional association of food.
  • Focus on ‘how’ and ‘what’ you eat. Eat a variety of wholesome, nutritious foods and resist the temptation to overeat. One type of food you should begin incorporating more of are superfoods. Compared to regular vegetables they are much richer in vitamins and nutrients but don’t hold many calories. Superfoods replenish and enrich the body and mind on a very deep level.

Also, try to add these 5 superfoods to your next grocery list:

  1. Maca – known to greatly reduce stress, balance hormone levels, and provide you with a substantial amount of energy and endurance.
  2. Acai – increases cognitive and brain function, improves cholesterol and fights off harmful toxins.
  3. Organic coconut water – keeps you hydrated and youthful. Also has natural antiviral properties.
  4. Chia seeds – are a great way to detoxify and cleanse by removing all the toxins and impurities from your body.
  5. Goji berries – work to enhance your vision and immune system keeping you alert and focused.

There are many more superfoods to try, many people are using them for their health and mental benefits. They work wonders to enhance your mood and energy levels.Your attitude also plays an important role in the adoption and maintenance of a variety of health habits including your diet. You can’t just go through the motions of eating healthier, you have to embrace it.

11. Make time for exercise.

Improve your health and you improve your life, extend your life, and can accomplish more with less fatigue. Research continues to show that making time for exercise delivers serious health and mental benefits.Whether it’s a quick pick-up game of basketball, a group training class at the gym, or even just a run with a friend, exercise won’t happen in a bubble. At the same time, you don’t need to train like a bodybuilder or athlete. Dedicating just 30 minutes a day, three days out of the week is enough to start gaining the mental benefits of exercise:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Increase happiness
  • Improve self-confidence
  • Boost brainpower, sharpen memory and prevent cognitive decline
  • Tap into creativity

Exercise also doesn’t have to be spent running in place on a treadmill or going to the gym, it can be spent walking by the lake, gardening, riding a bike along the beach, carrying groceries, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, and dancing among many other ways.Decide which activities are fun and will suit you best and plan them throughout your week.

12. Use positive words and affirmations.

Our subconscious plays a central role in the realization of our lives and the expression of our desires. What we believe about ourselves at the subconscious level, can have a significant impact on the outcome of events.People use these positive affirming statements for a variety of purposes. In general, the intent behind affirmation statements is to rewrite and reprogram the subconscious, to encourage us to believe in certain things about ourselves or the world around us.They are also used to help us create the reality we want – often in terms of attracting success, love, wealth, health and happiness.Affirmations can be used as inspiration as well as simple reminders. They can also focus attention on goals throughout the day, which, by itself has the potential to promote positive and lasting positive change.Once you have come up with a set of affirmations, to be effective, make sure you use them daily – at the very least.

13. Avoid people who drain you.

It is good to spend time with people, but there are certain people who actually suck your life straight from you. They exhaust you. Identify these people in your life and limit your exposure to them. Our energy comes in limited quantities and it grows or is reduced based on what you do and who you are surrounded by. Understanding how people influence you means you can do a better job matching your needs at any given moment to what your energy requires. How do you say “no” to energy zappers? Just say NO!Energy Zappers are people who may be stuck in a problem you’ve heard for years and years. Their situation and complaints are the same, over and over, and they bring nothing new to the table. They aren’t bad people but you are tired just at the thought of dealing with them. Whether it’s a co-worker or friend, avoid this person. If avoidance is not possible, make sure you are not in a state of resistance when around them. Remember, what we oppose sticks. If you feel uncomfortable around a particular person or group, do not go into resistance mode as a way to protect yourself. This only keeps the bad energy stuck in your space.Find your happy space and remove yourself from the uncomfortable environment as soon as possible. This way, if someone throws some negative juju to you, it will pass right through.

14. Improve your social skills.

On the other hand, building relationships with others greatly reduces stress and anxiety in your life.Research conducted by the University of California, Santa Barbara economist Catherine Weinberger, shows many successful people excel in both social skills and cognitive abilities.((UCSB: Smart and Socially Adept)) This is something that has not always been true. She collapsed data linking adolescence skills in 1972 and 1992 with older results and found that in 1980, both skills did not mean better success, and yet today the combination does so. “People who are both smart and socially skilled are earning more in today’s workforce than similar workers in 1980,” she says.

15. Schedule more time for yourself and family.

Those who work harder on the job than they do on themselves tend to burn out. Remember what you are working for!Schedule time with your spouse and children. Pencil in some time for yourself while you’re at it.

16. Learn to say NO.

Contrary to popular opinion, positivity is not and cannot be destroyed by the word “no.” You’re not a superhuman. Your energy has limits and so does your ability to produce more of it.Taking on an endless list of tasks is not a step in the right direction. Say no to low priority items. Don’t be afraid to tell someone, “I’ve already committed myself to another project that will take up all my spare time, thank you for thinking about me.”

The 90-day attitude transformation challenge

Negativity will somehow creep its way back into your life, it’s impossible to banish it entirely but what truly matters is how you handle it.Do you let it get you down and keep you down, controlling you? Or do you find a way to overcome it?Life requires a positive attitude mainly due to the constant roller coaster of highs and lows. Few people, if any, can remain at the top of the cycle throughout their lives. At some point, you will undergo a phase of trials and tribulations. This is nothing more than a test.Your thought process must be capable of maintaining a level of positivity and realism. No one can completely control what happens throughout their lives but your attitude and the approach you choose to deal with each challenge of life is entirely controlled by you.No one else said it better than Maya Angelou,

If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.

Take the proper steps

Your attitude is rooted in your beliefs and doesn’t shape overnight. It forms over a lifetime and is shaped by your approach and reaction to every situation. The right approach for transforming your attitude starts with an actionable plan and setting S.M.A.R.T. goals.

4 Quick steps:
  1. Put it to paper. It does not matter how high your goals seem, write them down. Be sure to set goals that balance your life. Set goals for every area of your life – spiritual, marriage, family, financial, career, health, education, and leisure goals. Only set goals that inspire you. You will need the fuel of enthusiasm to drive you to your destination.
  2. Prioritize. What do you want to tackle first? Put your goals in numerical order, from your priority to the last.
  3. Chop it down. Break down each goal into bite-size pieces. What do you need to do to achieve your outcome? Be specific.
  4. Take action. This is the most important component of goal achievement. You have to do something every day that brings you closer to your goal. Remember, desire is no substitute for action. Only actions produce results.

Imagine your attitude is like paying down a 30-year mortgage. The first few years you pay very little toward the principal and it seems like it will take 1,000 years to pay it off. But it gets faster with time and the changes will become more noticeable.Your attitude will be the same way. At first, it will seem like you are barely making any progress. Just persevere, and you will succeed.

Final thoughts

Someone whose heart is not in what they do will never be half as productive as someone who has the right attitude.According to the Stanford Research Institute study, the road to success consists of 88% attitude and only 12% education. This does not mean that education is of little importance, but it shows us how critical it is to create the right attitude for success.Once we have the right approach, it becomes much more convenient for things to fall into place.Much like walking, writing, playing sports and picking up any other skill, the attitude can be learned as well. It is essential to identify a negative attitude immediately as it inhibits growth and success. Just as we are able to learn them, we are also able to unlearn them and develop new and more positive habits. It takes 21 days to develop a habit and 90 days to create a lifestyle. Start today! Each week focus on mastering just one of these methods then incorporate another the following week.90 days is only 12 weeks which means before you have completed this list you will have completely transformed your attitude.

We should take advantage of the opportunities we have to hear from experts. If you can’t remember what they say afterwards, then it’s time to start improving your note taking.Note taking is an art that takes practice and discipline. It certainly isn’t easy when a flood of information is coming towards you and you have to decipher what’s important to write down and what’s not. This list of 17 note taking tips will help you in any class, presentation, or meeting:

READ MORE: How to Take Study Notes: 5 Effective Note Taking Methods and Essential Tips

1. Determine important content

Note taking should never be a transcript of every word said, but rather a summary of important information and questions. If you’re going into a history class, you’ll want to remember names and dates especially. If a coworker is doing a training on SEO, you’ll want to pay more attention to terminology and recommended practices.Anticipate before any presentation, meeting, or class what kind of content will be important to remember later.

2. Eliminate distractions

Remember when your teacher turned off your phone in class? That might still be a good idea.Whatever you find unnecessarily steals your attention during presentations needs to be eliminated as a distraction. If you are taking notes on a digital device, close any unrelated applications or resources. If you know that Hank from accounting is going to talk to you a lot, maybe you sit next to someone else. The point is to keep all of your attention focused on the subject material and note taking.

3. Keep calm

If you’re too nervous about note taking, you’ll probably make mistakes. Understand that your notes probably won’t be perfect every time, but you can always get help and clarification later.Note taking is difficult, so acknowledge your mistakes and improve on them.

4. Go digital

Use an app, online tool, or software. Note taking apps are available for your laptop, tablet, or phone. They make it easy to take fast notes and add things such as photos, links, checklists, and locations. If you feel like your handwriting is hard to read later, typing your notes will fix that. If you find yourself madly erasing after not organizing your notes correctly, than being able to copy-paste or hit control-Z can save you lots of valuable time.

5. Start sketching

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Many people understand concepts better in a visual context.Try sketching some drawings to go around the notes you write. It can quickly jog your memory about what you were thinking and makes your notes more entertaining to go through later.Just don’t get carried away and miss the important stuff. You will still want to combine drawings with plenty of actual words.

6. Make something visual

Take your notes and organize them visually. If drawing isn’t your thing, you can still add some flair to your notes. Use something like microsoft publisher to inject some creativity into your notes.Imagine your flyer is going to be used to teach someone else as you create it. This method forces you to spend more time with the content and can help organize it in such a way that makes more sense to you.

7. Mapping method

The mapping method of note taking is based on diagramming your notes. It looks like a flowchart or a spider’s web between topics and subtopics. It’s a nice way to visually organize your notes that may be interconnected. Here’s a more detailed guide on how to do mind mapping:How to Use a Mind Map to Organize Your Life

8. Cornell note taking method

The Cornell method is a great approach for organizing your notes into easily reviewable sections.((Oxford Learning: How to Take Study Notes: 5 Effective Note Taking Methods))You draw a line a couple inches from the bottom and then another line a couple inches from the left side, to create three boxes. The largest section you use to take notes however you’d like. The smaller left portion is for short cues to remind you what to specifically study later. The bottom section is where you write a summary of what you learned.

9. Outline method

The outline method turns your notes into easily digestible bullet points.((GoodNotes: The Best Note-Taking Methods))Write them like you’re outlining a story. You’ll have main points from individual topics or subjects, then write bullet points underneath each one with the supporting information.

10. Charting method

With the charting method, you will make a table with categories to be filled out.((Classroom: How to Take Notes Using the Charting Method)) This is fantastic for organizing material that you know will follow a particular outline. For example, if you are learning about different types of animals, you can make columns about where each animal lives, what does it eat, and how long it typically lives. Each row would have a different animal and you simply go across your columns and answer each question.

11. Sentence method

Write down important points from the lecture in a basic sentence structure. You can add headers and separate your sentences into their own lines to help keep organization. This works especially well for writing down useful quotes or statistics.

12. Record it

If you worry about missing important details or find yourself a better studier by listening, then you should record the presentation or class.Use your phone’s recording system or get software that automatically transcribes what’s being said. There are technical limitations with transcription software, so you may need to watch it carefully to correct any mistakes.

13. Ask for clarification

Your notes are close to worthless if you don’t understand them while writing them. Make sure to ask the teacher or presenter any questions you may have. Chances are someone else will be grateful that you asked about the same thing they were confused about.Take courage and work hard to understand the concepts the first time around so that you’re not even more confused later on.

14. Summarize afterwards

After a class, presentation or meeting, write down a summary of what the key points were. This is important for memory retention of the subject material and to see if you have any lingering questions to be addressed.Good summaries should include not only the key points, but also further applications to the subject material, questions to be researched, and a list of tasks to be completed.

15. Continue the discussion

Once you’re done with listening and note taking, turn to someone nearby and talk with them about what you learned. You can ask them questions about what stood out to them or what changes they would like to make based on the material. You can ask questions about things you perhaps misunderstood or did not receive a clear answer to.Continuing the discussion with someone else is an excellent way of applying the material and cementing it in your memory. If you have a meaningful conversation about it, that information has a much greater likelihood of being retained.

16. Review your notes

What you retain from the first time you take notes will quickly fade if you do not review them later. Hopefully, you have used one of the above methods to make your notes easy to go through and perhaps even entertaining. The important thing is that you take the time to go over your notes later so that you can remember what you learned and further reflect upon the points made.

17. Share what you learned

Even better than reviewing your notes is reviewing them with someone else. This gives you the opportunity to teach what you’ve learned.Use a flyer creator to creatively showcase what you’ve learned.((LucidPress: Flyer Maker)) Doing so will help you realize points you did not fully understand or need to better review.Your review partner may even come up with valuable questions for you to reflect upon and apply to your notes.

Final thoughts

Don’t be afraid to mix up some of these note taking methods together. You may find that a portion of your notes is better organizing in an outline format, but then decide that you need to make a chart for another portion. The point is to be organized and do what makes the most sense for you. Even if the person next to you is clearly organizing their notes according to the Cornell method, perhaps a different strategy will appeal to you more. Note taking is meant for yourself, so do it in whatever way is best for you.Now you have the chance to use what you have learned. Note taking is only valuable when it serves a purpose later. If you learn something interesting, come up with ways to apply it at work or in your home. Review your notes often to find different applications. Use the knowledge you have gained to make a difference in your life or the lives of others.

Tayla Gentle

Tayla Gentle

August 13, 2018

In a Cape Town district almost untouched by tourism, graffiti culture is helping a new generation find their voice, and travelers are beginning to take note. Tayla Gentle visits the locals taking their township’s image into their own hands.

The township of Langa has always had something of a pioneering spirit. Back in March 1960, at the height of apartheid, a 23-year-old student led over 30,000 protestors through the streets of Cape Town. It was a turning point in South African politics—and it all started in Langa.

One of the country’s oldest townships, Langa was created in 1927 as a place of forced housing for black South Africans and has seen more than its fair share of resistance, massacre and more. But today, this sprawling cluster of brick, tin and timber is home to the voices of a new generation; a place of emerging art, cool homestays and welcoming bars.

One of those voices belongs to Thulani, a scrawny, sharp-eyed local who’s essentially the unofficial mayor of Langa, by my estimations. He’s giving me the royal street tour, by foot and by kombi bus, and I can’t help but feel as if I’m on an official visit with the president.

RELATED: The Malaysian creatives putting their town on the map

As we’re shaking hands with wrinkled old ladies and high-fiving kids, like candidates on the campaign trail, Thulani explains that Langa has long been a place of revolution but it’s only beginning to become a destination.

In 2015, Langa found itself in the international spotlight when Red Bull brought its Amaphiko Academy, a social empowerment program, and a bunch of the world’s best graffiti artists, to the township. It was the first time Langa had been seen as more than just an apartheid-era housing estate—and it was all thanks to its graffiti culture.

I’m not surprised when Thulani casually mentions that Denzel Washington has filmed a movie here (2012’s Safe House) and that the neighborhood around the corner birthed Cape Jazz, a genre of jazz specific to Cape Town. The Langa light at golden hour is a photographer’s dream and the salty sweet donuts from the local ‘McDonalds’ deserve Michelin-star recognition—they taste even better when eaten to the soundtrack of Afrobeat pumping from the stereos of passing cars. Langa oozes cool, and we haven’t even got to the art yet.

Almost every inch of Langa’s public wall space has been doused in color. National athletes are immortalized in huge murals, stencils of masked superheroes promise equality, and thirsty pink elephants bemoan climate change.

“Langa has been shaped by street culture,” Thulani says, as he hangs out the kombi window and pointing to a famous piece by local artist Falk One. “What you’re seeing right now is a breakdown of race. We want the young kids to know that there are no real colors except the ones on the wall.”

And by ‘we’, Thulani means his creative collective—a motley crew of Langa artists of all shapes, sizes and spray cans. We pick up one of the gang, Robane, from the local barbecue joint. He slides into the bus, wearing track pants and paint-splattered sneakers, and announces that after we’re done touring, he’s headed straight back for chicken. I don’t blame him; it smells like pollo perfection.

Robane is the original street artist of Langa. Back in the early 2000s, he was a lone graffiti ranger, working deep inside the gang-heavy shack areas, armed with an engineering degree and a bucket of paint from the hardware store.

He tells me that growing up in the Cape Flats was a rough ride, but one early mural of Tupac and Snoop Dogg changed his life. “I saw it and that was it, the fumes got me,” he says. “That piece stayed with me until high school when I found comics. Then bang, all of a sudden I was selling weed and CDs just to buy comics. Then I was buying paint. Then I was buying cans. I’ve never looked back.”

Reading my mind, Robane explains that the township has a huge respect for graffiti and the art is almost never vandalized. “I do a lot of lettering and will sometimes throw up the names of local kids,” he says. “They love it because it makes them feel like they own a part of the town.”

RELATED: The life and times of Japan’s most influential artist

He tells me the story of a man who once gave permission for his mother’s house to be painted. At first his mother was mad, and tried to scare the artist away. But as she saw the artwork come to life, she grew to love it. Ten minutes later, we’re walking past that very house and I get a bit choked up when I see the tagline, which reads: ‘Every hero was once a child with a dream’.

It’s obvious that Robane and Thulani genuinely care about the upcoming generation. And you can’t help but be inspired by the way they speak about making art accessible for young people. One of those bright young things is Jonny Koel. Softly spoken and wearing a green knit beanie, he tells me that graffiti introduced him to finer arts and architecture, and has led him to a degree in animation.

Unlike Robane, Jonny was initially resistant to the underground graffiti world. He says he would have preferred to paint under the pseudonym of a woman rather than identify with what he thought was an ego-driven, macho culture. But he came to the realization, pretty quickly, that Langa’s art culture is different.

Jonny calls graffiti “the beautification of Langa”. In a place where most people can’t afford art, the likes of Robane, Jonny and Thulani are bringing it to the people. What’s more, they’re helping fuel change too.

Langa is still, in no way, at the top of travelers’ South Africa bucket lists. But times are changing. The township is blossoming, the art is inspiring, the Airbnbs and the shebeens (local bars) have never looked so welcoming, and Thulani—with the help of his his creative collective—is ready to show it off to the world.

Pokemon Go Ditto: How to catch a Ditto, which Pokemon transform into Ditto, spawn rate https://briefnews.eu/pokemon-go-ditto-how-to-catch-a-ditto-which-pokemon-transform-into-ditto-spawn-rate/ https://briefnews.eu/pokemon-go-ditto-how-to-catch-a-ditto-which-pokemon-transform-into-ditto-spawn-rate/#respond Fri, 08 Jun 2018 17:10:35 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/pokemon-go-ditto-how-to-catch-a-ditto-which-pokemon-transform-into-ditto-spawn-rate/

Missing from the first year of the game, players have finally welcomed Ditto into the game as the creature was released into the wild.

However, the slippery, pink pokemon is proving difficult to hold down.

Ditto is a pokemon that has the ability to transform into any other pokemon, imitating its exact likeness and abilities.

Ditto has progressed in the Pokemon game to become a necessary catch for trainers looking to capture the mythical Mew, but how do you catch it when it hides as other pokemon?

Here is the best way to catch Ditto on Pokemon Go.

Which Pokemon can transform into Ditto?

Ditto is a pokemon that has the ability to change its appearance into any other pokemon in, copying its appearance and mannerisms completely.

This makes it extremely difficult to work out if you actually have one, as it could be sat in your Pokedex without you even knowing.

In Pokemon Go, Ditto can transform into only a select few in-game pokemon, making the guessing game much easier in your hunt for Ditto.

In the three individual regions of Pokemon Go, Ditto can be found in several different generations of pokemon throughout the game.

In Kanto, Ditto can transform into Pidgey, Ratatta, Zubat, Gastly and now Mankey, thanks to a new Pokemon Go Fighting-type event.

Monkey will now have an increased spawn rate so keep an eye out for the monkey pokemon on your travels.

In Johto, Ditto can transform into Sentret, Yanma and Hoothoot. For Hoenn, Ditto can be Zigzagoon, Whismur and Gulpin.

Why do you want to catch Ditto?

Ditto was a missing Pokemon in the original release of the game, much to pokemon fan’s chagrin.

An incomplete Pokedex is never a desire of a true trainer, so fans will want to catch the elusive Pokemon to achieve a full Pokedex.

An official statement from Niantic said: “Professor Willow has finally discovered Ditto! Trainers all over the world have been reporting its appearance.

“Ditto has been known to disguise itself as other Pokémon, so keep an eye out, some Pokémon may actually be Ditto, and when you capture them, there’s a chance that Ditto will reveal itself.

“If you do encounter a Pokémon that is Ditto in disguise, the Pokémon in that specific encounter will also reveal itself as Ditto for other Trainers.

“Ditto is also a unique Pokémon when you interact with Gyms. When training or battling at a Gym, Ditto will copy the appearance, types, and moves of the first Pokémon it sees, and it will stay that way through the remainder of those Gym battles.”

Even if you are not a completionist Pokemon trainer, you will need to catch Ditto in order to find and capture the rare and mythical Mew.

As part of the 2018 research update, Pokemon Go has added a Mythical Discovery quest, with one of the tasks of the 5th part requiring you to catch Ditto, which will help you on your way to attempting to catch Mew.

Ditto is required for trainers to catch MewNiantic

How do you catch Ditto in Pokemon Go?

Frustratingly, Ditto never appears in his true, pink form, forcing players to catch nearly all pokemon in sight in order to find one.

Ditto will no show up in your Nearby or Sightings section, so you won’t know if he has spawned nearby.

So, unfortunately, the best way to catch Ditto is to simply catch all nearby Pokemon that he is known to transform into in the hopes it will be a Ditto.

When you manage to actually catch one, you will be greeted with an “oh?” notice, instead of a “Gotcha!”.

Pokemon Go servers will randomly allocate Pokemon around you to spawn as Ditto, so get out there and catch them all.

Amazon is trying to transform grocery shopping like it did retail https://briefnews.eu/amazon-is-trying-to-transform-grocery-shopping-like-it-did-retail/ https://briefnews.eu/amazon-is-trying-to-transform-grocery-shopping-like-it-did-retail/#respond Sat, 02 Jun 2018 20:23:22 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/amazon-is-trying-to-transform-grocery-shopping-like-it-did-retail/ Amazon Go

    • Amazon is now in the process of launching its own supermarket, Amazon Go, which has many wondering if the company will transform the grocery business the way it did ecommerce.
    • Amazon has tried the market with Amazon Fresh, tweaked the pricing model several times, then late last year announced that it was shutting down in five markets.
    • The company’s latest effort to revolutionize the grocery industry is to leverage the Whole Foods platform and offer Prime members free two-hour delivery in two pilot markets by using the store fulfillment model.

Amazon has been busy lately. After entering the grocery delivery market with Amazon Fresh and buying Whole Foods, it is now in the process of launching its own supermarket, Amazon Go.

These moves have many wondering if Amazon is about to transform the grocery business just as it did ecommerce and publishing. Actually this is a very different market. The limited profitability of online deliveries leaves little room for Amazon to innovate and Whole Foods only attracts a restricted, wealthier market. That being said, Amazon Go might just be the disruptive force to transform the grocery industry.
