The fire passed through the Santa Susana Field Lab (SSFL), a federal Superfund site in the Simi Hills that was the site of the worst nuclear meltdown in US history in 1959. While the California Department of Toxic Substances Control said there was no reason to be concerned of “any risks other than those normally present in a wildfire situation,” locals aren’t so sure, pointing out that the agency has dragged its feet in cleaning up toxic sites and accusing it of a possible cover-up.
Physicians for Social Responsibility Los Angeles president Robert Dodge castigated the DTSC, pointing out that the site – now owned by Boeing – remains radioactive and polluted despite the agency’s promise to clean it up eight years ago. “These toxic materials are in SSFL’s soil and vegetation, and when it burns and becomes airborne in smoke and ash, there is real possibility of heightened exposure for area residents.”
The DTSC reassured residents that the SSFL facilities were not affected by the fire and claimed measurements of radiation and hazardous compounds from both the site and the surrounding communities were within normal levels, posing no danger other than that normally present in the aftermath of a wildfire. Thousands of people live within two miles of the site, which was originally developed to test rocket engines and conduct nuclear research in the 1940s.
NASA, which owns a small piece of the site, echoed the DTSC’s message in a press release, stating that the fire presented no risks beyond those normally associated with wildfires although its property experienced “significant fire damage” across all three “historic districts.”
Residents’ concerns about authorities possibly downplaying the risks are fueled by the DTSC’s track record of broken promises, combined with the very real history of nuclear meltdown onsite. The California state legislature commissioned an Independent Review Panel to investigate the DTSC and found in 2016 that the agency had placed communities “at risk” by “failing to perform its basic function of protecting the public and environment from industrial hazardous waste and contamination.” The DTSC was held responsible for the Exide scandal in Vernon, in which a battery recycling plant leaked toxins into surrounding communities for decades, and was criticized for its backlog of hazardous waste permits.
I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I'm seriously upset that no one is talking about the fact that the #WoolseyFire was literally started at the Santa Susanna Field Lab – home to Area 4 (google it) THIS year a 7 year old has died of NEUROBLASTOMA from this place-prompting clean up

Local parents have blamed contamination at the SSFL site for their children’s cancers, and the Centers for Disease Control designated lab workers from the 1950s who developed cancer as part of a “special exposure cohort” eligible for compensation for their years of laboring in a radioactive environment. While the SSFL was the site of multiple nuclear accidents, the worst took place in 1959 when a reactor vented nuclear material to avoid an explosion, ultimately releasing 459 times more radiation than the infamous Three Mile Island meltdown 20 years later.

The substance used on Sergei Skripal was an agent called BZ, according to a Swiss lab, the Russian foreign minister said. The toxin was never produced in Russia, but was in service in the US, UK, and other NATO states.
Sergei Skripal, a former Russian double agent, and his daughter Yulia were poisoned with an incapacitating toxin known as 3-Quinuclidinyl benzilate or BZ, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, citing the results of the examination conducted by a Swiss chemical lab that worked with the samples that London handed over to the Organisation for the Prohibition of the Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
The Swiss center sent the results to the OPCW. However, the UN chemical watchdog limited itself only to confirming the formula of the substance used to poison the Skripals in its final report without mentioning anything about the other facts presented in the Swiss document, the Russian foreign minister added. He went on to say that Moscow would ask the OPCW about its decision to not include any other information provided by the Swiss in its report.

“As for ‘Novichok,’ there was never a scientific program under such a codename in the Russian Federation,” Alexander Shulgin, Russia’s permanent representative at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) said. “However, in Soviet times, research began to produce a new generation of poisonous substances. Such research was carried out not only in the USSR, but also in the US.”
As the Soviet Union collapsed in the early 1990s, foreign “special services took a group of scientists… with the research that existed since the Soviet times” out of the country so that they could go on with their studies of poisonous substances, he said.
“We know the exact countries where such work continued, achieving certain success,” Shulgin said, without naming any. “The positive results of those studies can now be found in open sources.”
“Therefore, we can assume that the source of the substance used [against Skripal] in Salisbury is concealed in one of the countries where this research continued and achieved certain success,” the Russian envoy said.
Russian chemist Vil Mirzayanov, whose claims of Russian complicity have now been widely circulated in Western media, was among those scientists who left Russia and continued their work abroad, Shulgin said. Mirzayanov, who currently lives in the US, was the first to disclose the existence of the ‘Novichok’ nerve agent to the public in a 1992 article. When the Skripal crisis erupted, he said on Facebook that the ‘Novichok’ formula had only been published in his book ‘State Secrets: An Insider’s Chronicle of the Russian Chemical Weapons Program,’ and alleged that only Russia could’ve used such a nerve agent to attack Skripal.
Shulgin also said that there’s currently no dialogue between the Russian and the UK delegations on the Skripal issue at the OPCW headquarters in The Hague. “We’ve made them an offer to start bilateral consultations, but they refuse; also declining to provide any samples to us.”
“Judging by the statement of the head of the British delegation, they view our offer on bilateral consultations as a distraction… as if by proposing those consultations Russia wants to drag out this whole thing and avoid responsibility,” the envoy said.
“My guess is that our British partners are afraid that, should our experts examine those samples, they will discover some catch in this whole case. And our British partners have absolutely no interest in that.”
“Moreover, we warned them that we’re ready for a meaningful dialogue, but only if the British side backs its accusations against us with convincing proof. In case nothing is presented to us… we’ll proceed from the fact that Britain has nothing and in this case it would have to be held accountable for slander,” he said.
Former Russian-UK double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, were discovered slumped on a bench in Salisbury in early March. They remain in critical condition in a hospital after being exposed to what UK authorities said was a Soviet-era nerve agent called Novichok.
This led to UK Prime Minister Theresa May accusing Russia of using chemical weapon on British soil and imposing sanctions against Moscow. The Russian side has denied any involvement in the Skripal poisoning and promised to come up with appropriate countermeasures to the British restrictions. Moscow also said it was ready to cooperate with London on investigating the incident, but the UK refused to work with Russia or provide it with any materials of the case.

The toxin tax is a new levy being imposed on a group of motorists in a bid to reduce the harmful levels off air pollution in some of the most polluted areas of Britain.
What is the toxin tax?
The Toxin tax or T-Charge is a levy that will be imposed on motorists whose vehicle does not meet the correct emissions standards to enter pre-determined areas of city centres across Britain.
Why is is being introduced?
It is being introduced to reduce the illegal levels of air pollution and poor air quality across the country.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan revealed that every Londoner is exposed to illegal levels of PM2.5 air pollution
Worse still, 95 per cent of people living in the capital are exposed to levels of PM2.5 pollution that exceed the WHO guidelines by 50 per cent or more.
Air pollution, in part caused by car emissions, contributes to the premature deaths of 29,000 every single year.
PM2.5 is a particle pollution which can penetrate the heart and lungs and cause things like asthma or even heart attacks.
Where is it being introduced?
The toxin tax is being introduced in Central London. It will be chargeable in the Capital’s congestion zone.
Anyone who uses the congestion zone will have to pay the charge from October 23rd.
The toxin tax will be extended to the South and North Ciruclar by 2019 and could be introduced into a number of highly polluted city centre across the UK.
A list of 35 towns and cities across Britain could also get similar charges over time in an attempt to drastically improve air quality.
These areas could include Southampton, Nottingham, Derby, Birmingham and Leeds. Other cities that could be affected include Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Newcastle, Bristol and Leicester.
It is expected that these areas will charge drivers from 2020.
When is is being introduced?
From October 23rd drivers in London using the congestion charge zone will be expected to any the charge.
How much will it cost me?
It will cost any driver whose emissions are Euro 4 or less £10 daily to use the congestion charge areas.
This levy will be expected to be paid on top of the £11.50 daily charge drivers are already expected to pay to use these areas.
If a driver used the zone every single day it is operation throughout the year they would be required to pay £2,940 on top of the congestion charge.
Euro 4 emissions standards apple to all cars registered before the 1st of January 2006.
Cars, vans, minibuses, buses, coaches and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) in central London will need to meet minimum exhaust emission standards, or pay a daily £10 Emissions fee.
How can I find out if I am affected?
Transport for London has created an online tool which allows drivers to check if they will gave to pay the daily £10 T-Charge.
Motorists can either input their car’s registration or vehicle type using the tool here.

It’s a bad day to be a diesel driver.
The value of used diesel vehicles has fallen by up to 26 per cent in the UK following the introduction of scrappage schemes and toxin taxes.
Average values of second-hand vehicles has plummeted by 5.7 per cent across the board.
Cars like the Vauxhall Corsa have been hit hardest with a decline of 26.31 per cent in value since the start of the year.
Conversely, the value of petrol cars has, for the part, increased since January.
For example, the Volkswagen Polo has enjoyed a healthy rise of 19.30 per cent since the start of the year.
The Ford Focus has seen an similar increase of 17.79 per cent, according to research commissioned by Motorway.co.uk.
Attitudes towards diesel cars have soured over the course of the year, thanks to the introduction of diesel scrappage schemes, toxin taxes and revelation of the harmful effects of nitrogen oxides on humans.
These changing attitudes can be traced back to the Volkswagen emissions scandal of 2015, when it came to light that 11 million vehicles were fitted with defeat devices designed to cheat emissions tests.
Motorway.co.uk analysed more than 24,000 valuations of the 10 most popular second-hand cars in the UK made since the start of the year.
The research clearly showed the impact these changes in attitude and introduction of new diesel emissions targeted schemes on the car market.
Motorway.co.uk Director Alex Buttle said: “Our analysis shows clearly that used diesel car prices are only going one way – and that’s down.
“This year has already been a total shocker for diesel owners.
“And now that most major manufacturers have launched diesel scrappage schemes, it doesn’t look like it’s about to get any better.
“Diesel cars are really starting to look like white elephants.
“We are now seeing savvy motorists choosing petrol, electric or hybrid used cars over diesel, and that’s already reflected in the value of second hand petrol vehicles starting to rise.
“That said, for those purely after cheap deals, it is definitely ‘bargain bucket bonanza’ time in the used diesel market.”
VOMITING and stomach cramps are two symptoms of botulism – a rare, but life-threatening condition. This is what you should know about the toxic condition.![]()
Botulism is caused by powerful toxins produced by a Clostridium botulinum bacteria.
They attack the nervous system, according to the NHS, and can cause paralysis.
One cause of botulism is by eating food containing the toxins.
The food is often contaminated because it hasn’t been properly canned, preserved or cooked.
This is what happened to a 33-year-old American woman, Lavinia Kelly, who was hospitalised with the condition after consuming cheese sauce with her nachos, bought from a service station.
According to The Sacramento Bee, she has been in intensive care and is unable to talk or open her eyes.
While most people will make a full recovery, paralysis can spread to muscles that control breathing if it’s not treated quickly enough.
It’s fatal in around five to ten per cent of cases.
If contracted via food, it’s usually from homemade items that haven’t been properly canned, preserved or fermented.
However, it’s less common – but still possible – for store-bought food to be contaminated thanks to improper handling during manufacturing.
In the past, foods that have caused the condition include garlic-infused oil, canned cheese sauce, chilli peppers, carrot juice and baked potatoes in foil
Initial symptoms of the condition are feeling sick, vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhoea or constipation.
However, without treatment, it triggers paralysis which spreads down the body from head to the legs.
This can cause drooping eyelids, blurred vision, facial muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing, slurred speech and breathing difficulties.
Other ways to get it can be from wounds that become infected with the bacteria – usually as a result of injecting illegal drugs contaminated with the bacteria – or when a baby swallows a resistant form of the bacteria, called a spore, in contaminated soil or food, such as honey.
The NHS recommends avoiding eating from visibly bulging or damaged cans, foul-smelling preserved foods, foods stored at the incorrect temperature and out of date foods.
