Pennsylvania GOP gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano touted an endorsement from Joseph Kolakowski, an ultra-orthodox rabbi who expressed sympathy for Capitol rioters and believes Hitler was part lizard.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Mastriano shared a story by the Epoch Times, a far-right publication, with his supporters on social media with the headline: "Rabbi Endorses Mastriano as Shapiro Calls Him Antisemitic in Pennsylvania Gov. Race."
In the article, Kolakowski — who leads a Hasidic Jewish ministry in Pennsylvania — defended Mastriano, saying, "while the Democrats have the chutzpah to claim that those of us from the Party of Lincoln are somehow racist, they do not look at the racist tenants of their own party, including abortion and gun control, both of which cause undue and disproportionate harm to people of color, and are historically rooted in openly racist ideologies."
The Inquirer reported the 38-year-old rabbi frequently posts on his YouTube channel about unfounded claims of fraud in the 2020 election, his support for Capital rioters, and believing in a theory that Adolf Hitler was part lizard.
In one video about the Nazi dictator, the rabbi said there's "a reason why he never took off his boots."
"[It] was to hide the fact that his feet were reptilian in nature because he came from this nonhuman race, demonic race. He was a hybrid."
In an interview with the news outlet, Kolakowski said he felt Mastriano was being "unfairly maligned" as antisemitic. He said he reached out to the state senator's campaign and was asked to write something. His statements were later published in the Epoch Times.
Jewish leaders and Democrats have criticized the Trump-backed candidate for his ties to far-right extremists and his efforts to garner support on Gab, a social network founded by a self-described Christian nationalist.
Mastriano praised the site's founder, Andrew Torba, who has said Jews are not welcome in his movement. Insider reported that Mastriano also paid the site $ 5,000, per campaign finance filings.
Mastriano is running against Democratic candidate Josh Shapiro in Pennsylvania's gubernatorial race. Recent polls show Shapiro ahead of his opponent by 7.3 points.
Mastriano's campaign and Kolakowski did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

It’s almost the midterm elections in the US, and that means disinformation campaigns could be working overtime. Social networks have been introducing new features, rolling out changes and even asking the government for help to fight off trolls and fake news disseminators. Twitter, for instance, has expanded its ability to spot and remove fake accounts. In a post detailing its elections integrity work, the microblogging platform said it may now delete “fake accounts engaged in a variety of emergent, malicious behaviors.”
Going forward, it will take several new factors into account when determining which users are fake, including the use of a stock or a stolen avatar. The use of stolen profile bios and putting intentionally misleading information, such as location, in profiles will also make a user look suspicious in Twitter’s eyes.
The platform will also take action against accounts that deliberately mimic or were clearly created to replace older accounts that were previously suspended for violating its rules. Further, it will also take action against users who claim responsibility for a hack, who threaten to hack specific people and who announce incentives for other people to hack specific people and accounts.
According to Twitter’s report, it already removed around 50 accounts pretending to be members of various state Republican parties. Back in August, it also banned 770 accounts from Iran that were part of a coordinated attempt to spread disinformation on the website. It said it’s been implementing proactive detections and enforcements, which reduced the spam-related reports it’s been receiving, and is also making it harder for sketchy developers to access its API.
Still, the company knows those aren’t enough. It needs to be able to strike down fake accounts as fast as they’re created, so it’s also building proprietary systems that can identify and delete “ban evaders at speed and scale.” Twitter will also proactively send nominees reminders to switch on two-factor authentication for their protection. It will also offer them support via an elections-specific portal, which will allow the company to address their concerns (and their fake news/account reports) as soon as possible.

Verizon officials were contrite and apologetic during a California State Assembly committee hearing that was convened Friday to examine mobile Internet throttling experienced by firefighters during recent blazes.
“We all make mistakes from time to time, the true measure of leadership is how soon we admit it, own it,” Rudy Reyes told the Select Committee on Natural Disaster, Response, Recovery, and Rebuilding after reading from a statement that the company released hours earlier.
In that statement, Verizon said it would be introducing a “new plan” with truly unlimited data and “priority access” for first responders nationwide.

It follows Ticketmaster closing its own resale platforms, Seatwave and Get Me In, which had been criticised for facilitating online touting.
The company has previously used the technology in the US for NFL matches.
Fans will be able to transfer tickets for Four Tet’s shows at the south London venue to a friend using a Ticketmaster account.
Those wanting to purchase the £5 tickets for the Four Tet shows will have to register for a Ticketmaster Verified Fan account which will help to ensure internet bots and touts do not access them.
Ticketmaster UK’s managing director Andrew Parsons said: “These gigs present the perfect opportunity to use the tools we have to restrict resale from the get-go and give full control back to the artist over their own show.
“Combining our Verified Fan technology with 100% digital ticketing will guarantee that O2 Academy Brixton is packed with real fans, paying exactly what Four Tet wants them to pay.”
The London DJ, real name Kieran Hebden, is known for his collaborations with Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke and he has remixed tracks by Aphex Twin, Ellie Goulding and Lana Del Ray.
His Brixton residency will see a line-up of special guests and two full live performances.
Fans can purchase tickets by registering through Verified Fan by Tuesday August 28.
They will be available to Verified Fans at 10am on Friday August 31.
Last week brought the first teaser trailer for the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee. The film focuses on the vocally-challenged, signature yellow Autobot who has been a cornerstone of the entire franchise right alongside Optimus Prime. Now, Bumblebee finds himself on his own in what is something of an origin story for the character as he goes on an adventure that happens decades before the first installment of the Transformers movies.
A new Bumblebee featurette has arrived with a focus on director Travis Knight, the man who has done wonders with stop-motion animation at LAIKA. After directing Kubo and the Two Strings and having his hand in LAIKA’s other projects such as Coraline and ParaNorman, Knight hopes to bring some of that mesmerizing storytelling to the Transformers universe.
In the featurette, Knight says, “At LAIKA, we try to find an artful balance of darkness and light, intensity and warmth, and humor and heart. The idea of being able to bring that philosophy to Bumblebee was really exciting.” Indeed, if there’s one thing that’s been missing from the Transformers franchise in the hands of Michael Bay, it was light, warmth and heart. There may have been humor, but it wasn’t ever particularly great.
Beyond that, Knight also references wanting to make a movie in the same vein of the classic, Steven Spielberg-directed coming-of-age adventures from the 1980s. If the first trailer is any indication, he’s brought some of that flair to Bumblebee, with Hailee Steinfeld doing her best Spielberg face. Still, it’s easy to make a movie look like it has the traits of classic Amblin Entertainment movies, but making it shine the whole way through is another story.
Meanwhile, co-star John Cena is just happy to be along for the ride. It looks like he’s playing a villain in the movie, but for him, it’s still a dream come true since he grew up on Transformers in the same decade in which the movie is set. Hopefully, he’ll get to wear some sweet jorts at some point during this movie.
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
Bumblebee arrives in theaters on December 21, 2018.

Ed Sheeran BANS Viagogo in secondary ticket selling WAR
Those attending Sheeran’s concerts this week in Manchester have been asked to buy new face-value tickets upon arrival if theirs were purchased through secondary site Viagogo, as those would be deemed invalid.
Viagogo offers users the opportunity to resell tickets for more than their face value.
Sheeran’s tour promoters Kilimanjaro Live, DHP Family and AEG Presents warned fans in July last year that those who had purchased “unauthorised” Viagogo tickets would not be allowed entry to the concerts.
However, a number of fans turned up at the gigs at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday and Friday and were told to pay for tickets up front at the face value of £80, while being advised to contact Viagogo to claim a refund for their resold tickets.
Many claimed it was unfair and that they could not afford the additional fee while waiting several days for a refund.
Other’s thought the retaliation against the online and offline touts – who cream millions from the talent of performers while adding absolutely nothing – was long overdue.
Sheeran, who performed at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Swansea on Saturday, told the BBC’s Newsbeat that his “strong” approach would “be very positive for fans in the long run”.
He said: “The only people it is going to harm in the end is the touts.
“I hate the idea of people paying more than face value for tickets when you can get them at face value.”
“People just need to start taking a stance and within two or three years companies like Viagogo are going to be kaput,” he added.
“I think (Viagogo) are the ones who are pushing out all this stuff that seems really negative, but it will be very positive for fans in the long run.”
Asked about fans having to pay as much as an extra £150 on the night in order to enter his concert, Sheeran said: “What they didn’t print is that they can actually get a refund later.
“It’s all being done properly, I’m not stitching people up.”
He said: “Loads of acts are doing it, Arctic Monkeys, Adele, no one is OK with it.
“The fans are not OK with secondary tickets. Sometimes you can spend all that money and it is a fake ticket.
“I think it is just about being strong and not giving in.”
Kilimanjaro Live founder Stuart Galbraith told the BBC that “everyone who has been through this process has been really grateful”.
He added that there have been “no complaints” and that they are “just trying to make sure people don’t get ripped off”, assuring fans that they will help them to get their refunds from Viagogo and similar sites.
On the FAQ section of its website, Viagogo says that all tickets sold on its platform are “genuine tickets that have been sold on by the original ticket purchaser in good faith”.
They say that they believe it is “unenforceable and illegal” when event organisers deny entry to people who have purchased resold tickets.
“Therefore, as with all tickets on our platform, Viagogo customers should feel confident that they will gain entry to the event, and that is why we back every ticket with the Viagogo guarantee,” they say.
Viagogo told the Press Association in a statement: “It is legal to resell concert tickets in the UK.
“The tickets sold on Viagogo’s platform are genuine tickets that have been sold on by the original ticket purchaser in good faith.
“Attempts by event organisers to cancel tickets on the basis that they have been resold are highly unfair, in our view illegal, and only punish consumers.”

President Donald Trump has taken some heat this week over his nebulous positions on gun control.
In the weeks after the deadly Parkland, Florida, school shooting, Trump has, at turns, been sympathetic to student survivors who are demanding action to address gun violence, and he has sought to appease gun-rights proponents who are impervious to calls for reform.See the rest of the story at Business Insider

Following two months of public lobbying by U.S. legislators and security agencies, Chinese networking giant Huawei today confronted espionage accusations, dismissing them as “not fair” and “only based on groundless suspicion” while touting successes in other countries. The South China Morning Post and Agence France Presse provided English translations of Huawei chief executive Ken Hu’s Chinese-language comments, made today during a Mobile World Congress media event in Barcelona, Spain.
Hu indicated that while Huawei is glad to speak with governments and telecommunication companies about their security concerns, the company has a “very strong track record regarding security” and provides “products for 400 operators” without issues.
“It is not fair to us if our strong track record of security of the past 30 years has been disregarded while the [U.S. security] accusation is only based on groundless suspicion,” said Hu. “For the issue of security, we welcome discussions and debates based on the facts, but it is only groundless suspicion then it is not a constructive way to resolve the issue. The view that a company headquartered in China cannot be trusted is the view is problematic as a lot of leading ICT companies are spreading their value chains across the world and a lot of components are coming from China as well.”
Although Hu appeared to be suggesting that the U.S. security concerns might apply to any company headquartered in China, U.S. officials have focused on Huawei and ZTE rather than the broader Chinese supply chain, pointing to each company’s government ties and previous attempts to evade investigations. The heads of the FBI, NSA, and CIA all suggested that U.S. consumers avoid the two companies’ products and services, calling them risky as they are “beholden to foreign governments.”
Still, the security concerns are at this point more theoretical than tangible. U.S. officials have largely expressed concern about the risks Huawei networking gear and phones could pose to future U.S. and Australian 5G networks, specifically if China’s government demands backdoor access to data or control over foreign network resources. Both companies have called themselves trustworthy and suggested that there is no basis for the accusations.
Regardless of U.S. concerns, Huawei remains a leading global vendor of both 4G and 5G wireless gear, and alongside Samsung, is one of only two companies to have announced end-to-end 5G hardware that’s ready for 2018 commercial deployment. Today, Hu mentioned that Huawei already has 45 contracts for pre-commercial 5G, including trials in major capitals such as London, Tokyo, and Seoul. The company plans to spend $ 800 million in 5G research and development during 2018 alone.
]]>With how popular cord-cutting is, you’d think more services would be keen to share their subscriber stats. Dish pulled back the curtain today and revealed that its Sling TV service has some 2.2 million folks paying for the service. That’s compared to just over 11 million Dish satellite customers. Those numbers don’t mean a ton on their own, but when you compare them to AT&T’s DirecTV Now numbers you can get a sense of where each are at. Last October, the telco reported that its streaming service had 787,000 subscribers. Of course, Sling TV has been around around a year longer, so that’s to be expected.
As far as the rest of Dish’s business goes, the company picked up an estimated 39,000 new subscribers in the fourth quarter — an increase of around 11,000 versus last year. Those gains couldn’t offset a slight decrease in annual revenue from subscribers ($ 14.26 billion versus $ 15.03 billion), or total revenue ($ 3.48 billion versus $ 3.75 billion).
All told, while Dish might be doing better with Sling TV than AT&T is with DirecTV Now, AT&T still leads the pack in terms of overall subscribers (25.1 million). But with a $ 1.2 billion profit thanks to tax benefits, Dish probably can breathe easy while it figures out how to boost those subscription numbers.
