The 22 best NFL touchdown celebrations of 2018 https://briefnews.eu/the-22-best-nfl-touchdown-celebrations-of-2018/ https://briefnews.eu/the-22-best-nfl-touchdown-celebrations-of-2018/#respond Sun, 02 Dec 2018 22:35:04 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-22-best-nfl-touchdown-celebrations-of-2018/ Seahawks CelebrationGrant Halverson/Getty Images

After the 2016 season came to an end, the NFL decided to relax league rules surrounding excessive and group celebrations, allowing teams and players to get creative with their post-touchdown performances.

As a result, 2017 was full of memorable touchdown celebrations, like the Pittsburgh Steelers’ hide-and-seek celebration between wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and running back LeVeon Bell, the Minnesota Vikings’ post-touchdown game of duck, duck, goose, and the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles’ group rendition of the Electric Slide.

Still, it feels as though it took the league a year to get comfortable testing the new rules and going big on touchdown celebrations. Once 2018 came along, players began taking turning touchdown celebrations into a full-blown performance.

Without further ado, here are the best touchdown celebrations of 2018.

Newly-minted Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper poked fun at Philadelphia 76ers guard Markelle Fultz, who has struggled with his shooting form since he was drafted first overall in the 2017 NBA Draft.

To his credit, Fultz took the joke in stride and said “Good shot boy” in response on Snapchat.

Seattle Seahawks — Tyler Lockett reenacts the Allen Iverson step-over

In yet another homage to the NBA, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett did a near-perfect impersonation of Allen Iverson’s famous step-over of Tyronn Lue.

  • Saquon Barkley broke out for a huge 68-yard touchdown in his first ever NFL game.
  • The second overall pick of the NFL Draft, Barkley’s run was proof to many that he could be the next breakout start of the league.
  • Unfortunately for the Giants, Barkley’s huge run wasn’t enough, as New York would lose its opener to the Jacksonville Jaguars, 20-15.

Saquon Barkley announced his arrival to the NFL on Sunday.

Barkley was the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and entered the season with high expectations. With young running backs like Alvin Kamara, Kareem Hunt, and Ezekiel Elliott taking over the league in recent years, there was no underestimating Barkley’s potential.

The Vikings pulled off a miracle win over the Saints with a last-second 61-yard touchdown pass https://briefnews.eu/the-vikings-pulled-off-a-miracle-win-over-the-saints-with-a-last-second-61-yard-touchdown-pass/ https://briefnews.eu/the-vikings-pulled-off-a-miracle-win-over-the-saints-with-a-last-second-61-yard-touchdown-pass/#respond Mon, 15 Jan 2018 09:27:25 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-vikings-pulled-off-a-miracle-win-over-the-saints-with-a-last-second-61-yard-touchdown-pass/ Stefon Diggs walk off touchdownNFL on FOX

  • Case Keenum connected with Stefon Diggs to give the Minnesota Vikings a miracle 29-24 win over the New Orleans Saints.
  • The miraculous score came after Drew Brees had pulled off a two-minute drill of his own to set the Saints up for the go-ahead field goal with just 29 seconds left in the game.
  • With the win, the Vikings secure their spot in the NFC Championship next weekend, when they will face off against the Eagles in Philadelphia.

Stefon Diggs ran into the end zone as the clock expired on Sunday night, pulling off a Minnesota miracle and sending the Vikings to the NFC Championship.

The Vikings opened up their game in dominant fashion, taking a 17-0 lead into halftime with their ticket to the next round looking all but secured. But the Saints would come back in the second half, culminating in a stunning drive from Drew Brees in the final minute that earned New Orleans the go-ahead field goal with just 29 seconds left on the clock.

All hope looked lost for the Vikings, but Case Keenum was able to push Minnesota to their own 40-yard line with nine seconds remaning on the clock, needing a miracle to win.

The prayer was answered.

Stefon Diggs found an overthrown ball from Keenum on the sideline, a Saints defender inexplicably whiffed on the tackle, and Diggs stayed in bounds to make his improbable run to the end zone.

You can watch the unbelievable play below.

The play is just a miraculous from different angles.

With the win the Vikings secure a spot in the NFC Championship in Philadelphia next weekend. With a win there, the Vikings could return to Minneapolis to become the first team to ever play in a home Super Bowl.

Luck seems to be on their side.

The Vikings’ miracle touchdown was made possible when a Saints defender played the pass in the worst way possible https://briefnews.eu/the-vikings-miracle-touchdown-was-made-possible-when-a-saints-defender-played-the-pass-in-the-worst-way-possible/ https://briefnews.eu/the-vikings-miracle-touchdown-was-made-possible-when-a-saints-defender-played-the-pass-in-the-worst-way-possible/#respond Mon, 15 Jan 2018 04:28:43 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-vikings-miracle-touchdown-was-made-possible-when-a-saints-defender-played-the-pass-in-the-worst-way-possible/ marcus_williams_stefon_diggsFox/NFL

  • The Minnesota Vikings pulled off a 29-24 win over the New Orleans Saints with a touchdown catch and run from Stefon Diggs as time expired.
  • The play was made possible when Saints safety Marcus Williams tried to deliver a big hit on Diggs and missed him entirely, leaving Diggs with an open field.
  • Afterward, Williams reportedly cried over his blunder.

The Minnesota Vikings advanced to the NFC Championship on Sunday with a miracle pass, catch, and touchdown from Case Keenum and Stefon Diggs to secure a 29-24 win over the New Orleans Saints.

And while Keenum and Diggs’ heroics are rightly being celebrated, the Saints may wish they could have that play back because of a big defensive mistake by safety Marcus Williams.

As Diggs went up to catch Keenum’s deep ball along the sideline, Williams appeared to go for a big hit to keep Diggs from catching the ball or to force him to stay in-bounds.

Instead, Williams missed Diggs entirely, and Diggs pulled the ball down with nobody behind him. From there, it was off to the races.

Here was the play:

During the replay, Troy Aikman said of Williams: “I’m not sure really what he’s thinking, Joe. He comes in, he’s got [Diggs] dialed in, and all he’s gotta do is make a play. And even if he catches it, you tackle him in-bounds, the game is over.”

Aikman even remarked that Diggs likely thought he was going to get hit on the play.

From the sounds of it, Williams, who had a strong rookie season, took it hard afterward.

Several in the NFL world offered support for Williams, including for Saints safety Steve Gleason.

It will likely be a tough play for Williams to live down. But it also shows the thin line between a win and a loss — if Williams had made the tackle, the Saints would likely be in the NFC Championship.

  • Stefon Diggs helped the Minnesota Vikings pull off a miraculous win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday with the game-winning catch and run for a touchdown.
  • Afterward, Diggs was in disbelief, saying he wasn’t sure what happened and that, “Damn, that s— felt good.”

The Minnesota Vikings pulled off a miracle win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday after wide receiver Stefon Diggs hauled in a huge sideline catch and took it to the end zone as time expired.

While all of the Vikings seemed to be stunned by the incredible play that saved them from what looked like a certain loss, Diggs summed up his game-saving play pretty well after the game.

In a postgame interview, Diggs said on air: “I still don’t know what just happened. I really don’t.”

After thanking God, Diggs then said, “Damn, that s—- felt good!”

Understandable. Diggs got to soak in his heroics in front of thousands of screaming fans as his teammates mobbed him.

Here’s the game-winning catch and score:

The Vikings will now take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship.

Alabama freshman quarterback who was thrown into the second half of the game led them to a wild comeback win capped off by the touchdown pass of a lifetime https://briefnews.eu/alabama-freshman-quarterback-who-was-thrown-into-the-second-half-of-the-game-led-them-to-a-wild-comeback-win-capped-off-by-the-touchdown-pass-of-a-lifetime/ https://briefnews.eu/alabama-freshman-quarterback-who-was-thrown-into-the-second-half-of-the-game-led-them-to-a-wild-comeback-win-capped-off-by-the-touchdown-pass-of-a-lifetime/#respond Tue, 09 Jan 2018 06:13:21 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/alabama-freshman-quarterback-who-was-thrown-into-the-second-half-of-the-game-led-them-to-a-wild-comeback-win-capped-off-by-the-touchdown-pass-of-a-lifetime/ tua tagovailoaStreeter Lecka/Getty

  • Alabama won the national championship, 26-23, over Georgia in overtime after a wild comeback.
  • The comeback was led by true freshman backup quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who was inserted into the game in the second half after Alabama went scoreless in the first half.
  • Tagovailoa delivered, throwing three touchdowns including the game-winning, 41-yard touchdown in overtime.

Alabama had prepared freshman quarterback Tue Tagovailoa to play in the championship game, and it paid off.

Alabama beat Georgia, 26-23, in the college football championship on Monday after inserting Tagovailoa into the game in the second half. Alabama head coach Nick Saban decided to make a change after a disastrous first half in which Alabama fell behind 13-0 and benched normal starter Jalen Hurts.

After Georgia kicked a field goal to go up 23-20 in overtime, Tagovailoa’s extra period got off to a horrible start when he was sacked on the first snap for a major loss. Undeterred, he then delivered a 41-yard bomb to DeVonta Smith for the win.

Incredible:

Tagovailoa is a true freshman QB, but had actually gotten a good amount of experience during the season, throwing 53 pass attempts for over 400 yards, with eight touchdowns and one interception.

After the game, Tagovailoa said Nick Saban approached him and Hurts at halftime and said they’d be trying something different in the second half after a scoreless first half.

Tagovailoa delivered, leading a touchdown drive on his second drive of the half. Although he threw an interception in the third quarter, the defense saved him by getting it right back on the next possession. Alabama then scored field goals on two of its next three drives before Tagovailoa delivered an equally impressive game-tying touchdown in the fourth quarter.

“He just stepped in and did this thing,” Hurts said after the game of Tagovailoa. Throughout the second half of the game, Hurts could be seen cheering his teammate and encouraging him.

“He’s built for stuff like this,” he added.

Going into his sophomore season, Tagovailoa is now a national champion.

  • Marcus Mariota threw a touchdown to himself in the Tennessee Titans Wild Card game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
  • The play caused a bit of confusion on the field, but was eventually upheld and will surely go down as one of the wildest plays of the NFL postseason.
  • Mariota’s miracle play made for a confusing box score update, which listed the Titans quarterback for both a passing and receiving touchdown on the same play.

Marcus Mariota threw himself a touchdown pass, making what will surely be the wildest play of this Wild Card weekend.

The play came in the third quarter of Saturday’s game between the Tennessee Titans and Kansas City Chiefs. With the Titans down 21-3 and needing a score facing third-and-goal, Marcus Mariota dropped backed and looked for an open receiver in the end zone.

After scrambling in and out of the pocket, Mariota eventually made a throw that was deflected into the air by Darrelle Revis, but Mariota was quick to find the loose ball, catch it, and dive into the end zone to score the Titans first touchdown of the game.

It’s one of the craziest plays that you will ever see, and you can watch it below.

After the score the play was automatically reviewed, and some were concerned that Mariota had crossed the line of scrimmage before releasing the ball, therefore nullifying the stunning play. But the play was upheld on review and the Titans cut the Chiefs’ lead to 21-10.

The play makes for what would surely read as a confusing box score in the days before video could instantly be viewed on a smart phone, as Mariota is currently credited with a passing touchdown and receiving touchdown for the same play.

  • Josh Gordon made his return to the NFL last week after multiple years of suspension.
  • On Sunday, Gordon scored his first touchdown since his return, finding the end zone for the first time since 2013.
  • The Browns are still winless but threatening the Packers late in Sunday’s game.

Josh Gordon scored his first touchdown since his return to the NFL on Sunday, catching an 18-yard pass from DeShone Kizer in the first quarter of the Browns’ game against the Packers.

It was Gordon’s first touchdown since December 15, 2013.

You can check out the play below:

After the score, Gordon returned to the Browns’ sideline and donned a pair of sunglasses, strutting for the cameras and the home crowd.

Gordon made his return to the NFL last week, playing his first game since 2014 due to suspensions stemming from multiple violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. After a solid performance last week, Gordon came out firing for the Browns on Sunday, accruing 56 yards on Cleveland’s opening drive, including the score that tied the game early.

With Gordon back, the Cleveland offense has looked much more lively the past two weeks. And after adding another score in the third quarter, it accomplished something the team hasn’t done in two years:

The Browns are still looking to secure their first win of the 2017 season.
