Torvill and Dean are judges on Dancing On Ice as well as providing some support to contestants during training and so had some serious words to have with Gemma earlier this week after a difficult weekend for her.

Gemma’s partner James “Arg” Argent appeared on Loose Women today to discuss her time on the ITV contest.

As viewers will know, Gemma suffered a nasty fall on Sunday’s instalment when she fell face-forward onto the ice toward the end of the performance.

It resulted in some bruising on her legs, and Arg said how he had been caring for his girlfriend.

He shared: “I made sure that her legs were elevated. I was told that she needs to go hot and cold.

“One minute she needed the ice pack the next she needed to be in a hot bath.”

Despite her injuries, Gemma was keen to get back on the ice but Arg wasn’t so sure.

“She went in the next day and I was thinking ‘is she able to go straight back into rehearsals?’” he told the panel.

He then divulged that Torvill and Dean had to put a stop to Gemma getting on the ice following her tumble.

Arg continued: “Torvill and Dean wouldn’t let her skate, she’s missed a day of rehearsals this week.”

There had been some suggestion from fans that Gemma had fallen on purpose, rumours which have been shot down.

Arg also leapt to Gemma’s defence on the programme when it was brought up by the Loose Women.

He explained: “Me and Gemma, we do scan through the social media comments.

“There were a couple of people that said it let me put something straight as much as I love her she’s probably the most talked about woman in the country at the moment, or one of them.

“She’s not going to risk a serious injury for a publicity stunt. She’s the last person that needs a publicity stunt.

“If anything she could do with a bit less.”

The former The Only Way Is Essex star also opened up about Gemma’s war of words with judge Jason Gardiner after he panned her second skate.

The panel asked him how he felt when Gemma was hitting back at Jason.

Arg said: “At the start I was like ‘go on give it back to him’ but then I was like ‘stop, enough. You’ve said your bit, stop!”

Dancing On Ice continues Sunday at 6pm on ITV.

Donna Air and Mark Hanretty had just performed their routine, but it didn’t go down well.

All of the judging panel had each individually issued scores of six.

However, in an unusual turn of events, 59-year-old Chris had awarded the least points.

Giving a total of just 5.5 to the dancing duo, the audience were not impressed.

As the crowd booed at the professional skater, Chris didn’t look best pleased.

Phillip Schofield addressed the elephant in the room and joked that “it made a change” as normally Chris is never booed.

The presenter gasped: “And the man the audience just booed!”

He then chuckled: “Yes they did! Makes a change.”

Chris put his head on Jayne Torvill’s shoulder and pulled an upset face.

He added: “It’s fine, I’m confident up here! You can’t beat a bit of kneeling at the beginning of a routine. I’ve seen it before!”

His scoring came after Donna had tried her best to provide the audience with a more romantic performance.

The 38-year-old had made the decision following criticism from the judges about her nerves and technique.

Jason Gardiner, Ashley Banjo, Jayne and Chris did praise the star for her continued improvement on the ice, but fans were not happy.

Donna managed to get a combined score of 23.5 from the judges, which was the same as the week before.

However, some viewers picked up on her failure to leave her dance partner Mark’s “hold” during the performance.

Dancing on Ice 2018: Christopher Dean leans in to KISS dance partner Jayne Torvill https://briefnews.eu/dancing-on-ice-2018-christopher-dean-leans-in-to-kiss-dance-partner-jayne-torvill/ https://briefnews.eu/dancing-on-ice-2018-christopher-dean-leans-in-to-kiss-dance-partner-jayne-torvill/#respond Mon, 15 Jan 2018 02:53:07 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/dancing-on-ice-2018-christopher-dean-leans-in-to-kiss-dance-partner-jayne-torvill/

The skating professional looked like he was trying to plant a smacker on the lips of his long-term dance partner after commending Max Evans and Ale Izquierdo on their believable chemistry.

Shortly after awarding Max 5.5 points, Christopher complimented the star for maintaining good eye contact with Ale.

Speaking directly to Max, he said: “What I really liked was the connection that everybody is talking about and the eye contact, that is what gives the intimate part of it when your skating.”

The 59-year-old then turned to Jayne, 60, held her closely and went in for a kiss.

Teasingly, the figure skater stopped just before their lips met before quickly turning his attention back to Max, 34.

Understandably, the audience went wild and cheered for the pair to actually kiss.

Even Dancing on Ice hosts, Holly Willoughby  and Phillip Schofield couldn’t resist getting involved too.

From the side of the rink, Phillip, 55, shouted: “I remember that!”

While, Holly, 36, quipped: “Steady on! Steady on!”

Later, Christopher told Max: “Well it’s all about the eye contact and you had loads of that. Well done!”

Elsewhere on the show, judge Ashley Banjo teased rugby player Max and Ale for their convincing chemistry.

The 29-year-old praised Max, 34, for the pair’s impressive routine before adding: “I loved that. Slowly paced routines are more exposing, not just for the routine but for the connection between the two of you.

“I don’t know what’s going on between the two of you but I love it.”

Neither Max or Ale responded to Ashely’s comments, which was unsurprising given Max’s relationship status.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Max had split from his wife of four years, American actress Katy Marie Johnson, 29, in early 2017.

The couple had struggled to make it work with their opposing work commitments.

Dancing On Ice airs Sundays at 6pm on ITV.

Dancing On Ice 2018: End of the ice age as Torvill and Dean banned from rink https://briefnews.eu/dancing-on-ice-2018-end-of-the-ice-age-as-torvill-and-dean-banned-from-rink/ https://briefnews.eu/dancing-on-ice-2018-end-of-the-ice-age-as-torvill-and-dean-banned-from-rink/#respond Sun, 31 Dec 2017 03:47:21 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/dancing-on-ice-2018-end-of-the-ice-age-as-torvill-and-dean-banned-from-rink/

Instead they will join the judging panel of Dancing On Ice, but they will not be allowed to step on the rink because they have not been insured for skating.

The pair choreographed the routines for celebrity ice skaters in previous series but their new contract forbids it.

ITV declined to comment but speaking before the return of the series next Sunday, a baffled Chris, 59, said: “They haven’t insured us to go on the ice so they wouldn’t let us go on. I think it’s just a standard contract. I don’t get it.”

The pair conquered the world during their skating heyday.

At the 1984 Winter Olympics they won gold and became the highest-scoring ice dancers in history, watched by a British TV audience of more than 24 million.

Fortunately for their fans, Chris and Jayne will be skating later in the year during the Dancing On Ice live tour.

The new series of Dancing On Ice has 12 celebrity skaters, including 2016 Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown, actress Donna Air, rugby player Max Evans and Bucks Fizz singer Cheryl Baker.

BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing has been rocked by reports of romance between the celebrities and the professional choreographers and dancers – and Torvill and Dean predict the same will happen on Dancing On Ice.

Chris said: “I am guaranteed there is going to be a romance. It’s so tactile. Literally, you’ve got to hold, you’ve got to trust, you’ve got to spend the hours together.

“It’s always bubbling underneath. There are too many looks. The body language is easy to spot. I think it naturally happens.”

Jayne, 60, revealed that one of the unnamed professional skaters already has her sights set on Max.

“You can sense some things going on. Sometimes you just put a couple together and they just click,” she said.

“One of the professional skaters who said she is single said she wants to marry Max. Someone in production told me. I think there are lots of girls who would like to marry Max.”

Dancing On Ice has had a four-year break and there are tweaks to the format, including Torvill and Dean joining the judging panel, alongside Jason Gardiner.

Talking about their new role as first-time judges, Chris promised he would be honest with the contestants.

“I think we are the most experienced ‘virgin judges’. I think we obviously have the knowledge of skating,” he added.

Torvill and Dean are swapping their roles as choreographers and mentors to become judges

The rebooted ITV show sees a few familiar faces return with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield back on hosting duties but this time ice-skating royalty Torvill and Dean are swapping their roles as choreographers and mentors to become judges.

When Day & Night caught up with Olympic medallists Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean they told us how they were dealing with their new job.

“It’s a big change for us,” admits Christopher, 59, who joins returning judge Jason Gardiner and new recruit, Diversity’s Ashley Banjo, to form the panel.

“We did all the choreography and the skating before and we worked with the professionals and mentored and coached them. But now we have the hot seat and are sitting in judgment you might say.”

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield will be returning as hosts for the latest series of the show

His skating partner of 43 years agrees that the workload is much lighter now they don’t have to spend all week getting the competitors up to scratch.

“When we choreographed we had a lot of pressure to get everybody’s routine ready.

“On the Sunday when the show went out live it was a bit more relaxed for us. Our job was done,” says Jayne, 60.

“This time, Sunday is going to be our pressure day but it is only one day.”

And when pressed on which celeb they think has the potential to win Christopher says: “I have seen Candice Brown from Bake Off and she is pretty competitive.” But we know that already!

Suranne JonesGETTY

Suranne Jones hinted that Doctor Foster may not be returning for a third series

Doctor Foster star Suranne Jones has bad news for fans of the hit show… there might not be a third series.

The former Corrie actress, 39, who plays GP Gemma Foster in the nail-biting drama, reveals that she is unsure of the programme’s future.

“There are no plans because everyone is busy and I am working all of next year so I just don’t know,” the Bafta-winner tells The Graham Norton Show on BBC One tomorrow night.

Suranne is starring in West End thriller Frozen from February until May at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and has TV projects lined up for the rest of the year.

More than seven million tuned in to watch the explosive final episode of the second series which ended with Gemma saving her ex-husband Simon (played by Bertie Carvel) from suicide before discovering her son has run away… and now it seems we may never find out what happens next. Talk about a cliffhanger…

Davina McCallGETTY/INSTAGRAM

Davina McCall posted a picture of her injured finger, but managed to see the funny side

Newly single Davina McCall recently revealed that her gruelling exercise regime helps to “clear her head”.

However it seems the fitness fanatic – who split from husband Matthew Robertson last month after 17 years of marriage – may have over-exerted herself this week.

The 50-year-old presenter shared a photo of the middle finger on her left hand wrapped up and supported with a splint.

Seeing the funny side of the injury, she captioned the snap: “It looks like I’m constantly being rude to people!”

Poor Davina, she might be the only person whose new year’s resolution should be to spend less time at the gym.

Jimmy OsmondGETTY

Jimmy Osmond (C) has said that US audiences were left baffled with British pantomimes

With panto season in full swing on this side of the Atlantic, US singer Jimmy Osmond has bemoaned how people at home simply don’t understand the charms of the British festive tradition.

The youngest member of The Osmonds, 54, once attempted to bring versions of Cinderella and Aladdin to the States but audiences were completely baffled.

“I promoted pantomime a couple of times in America but the crowds just didn’t get it,” admits Jimmy, left, who is starring in Aladdin at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen.

For him, one of the best things about doing panto in the UK is how much the crowd gets involved: “People here really let loose when they come to a show and that’s what makes it so special.”

Oh no it isn’t! Oh yes it is!

Ronnie WoodGETTY

Ronnie Wood is patron of conservation charity Tusk Trust, and has adopted many endangered animals

Veteran rocker Ronnie Wood has become an animal lover in his old age.

So it is no surprise that he has a special place in his heart for one wrinkly skinned beast – The Stones guitarist, 70, is on a mission to save the rhino from extinction.

“I have loved them ever since going to Africa,” says Ronnie, who is a patron of conservation charity the Tusk Trust and has adopted several of the endangered animals.

“I have a lot of rhinos under protection. I started with Spike and he had children and they are under protection so this is a big thing for me.”

Ronnie adds that the situation is so critical he worries that the magnificent creatures might die out before his 18-month-old twin daughters Gracie and Alice ever get to see one in the wild: “I want my kids to be able to see these things. They could be gone in our lifetime if we don’t look after them.”

Dancing on Ice 2018: Torvill and Dean take a swipe at Strictly Come Dancing https://briefnews.eu/dancing-on-ice-2018-torvill-and-dean-take-a-swipe-at-strictly-come-dancing/ https://briefnews.eu/dancing-on-ice-2018-torvill-and-dean-take-a-swipe-at-strictly-come-dancing/#respond Fri, 22 Dec 2017 01:56:46 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/dancing-on-ice-2018-torvill-and-dean-take-a-swipe-at-strictly-come-dancing/

The former world champion skaters will be swapping their previous roles as mentors and choreographers on the ITV figure-skating show to critique a bunch of celebrity hopefuls.

And they are already putting their straight-talking heads on as the Olympic Gold medalists admitted they won’t be voting off the best skaters unlike what happened on Strictly when Aston Merrygold was controversially eliminated.

Speaking at the launch of the programme at London’s Natural History Museum ice rink, Jayne said: “Sometimes, as you do with Strictly, you lose someone early on that shouldn’t have gone, and it’s usually because they’re quite good and people think they are fine and they don’t vote for them.

“But I think, in the end, your finalists are the better skaters.”

Dean, 59, added: “The skating always shines… but if we went round the table and asked for what moment you remember about Dancing On Ice, it isn’t always about the best skater.”

The skaters will be joined by Jason Gardiner and Diversity’s Ashley Banjo on the judging panel when the show makes a highly-anticipated comeback next year.

But Jayne, 60, joked it’s not “possible” to be more critical than Jason who was notorious for his harsh comments.

Discussing her own judging technique, she said: “We’ve got to be honest and if someone is not looking so good and not improving then we’ve got to say it.

“Our first focus will be the skating skills – that’s what we do, that’s what we know. Then it’s about the whole package and who perform, so they haven’t got an easy job.”

The show will have a total of 12 contestants when it returns in the new year with the likes of Alex Beresford, Brooke Vincent and Candice Brown showing off their figure-skating skills.

And Dean believes viewers are in for a treat as he revealed there are some “good characters”.

He added: “There’s only going to be one winner of the show but I think there’s going to be lots of adventures along the way with all the contestants.”

Dancing On Ice returns to ITV on January 7 at 6pm.

Dancing on Ice 2018: Torvill and Dean’s huge demands exposed ahead of star-studded return https://briefnews.eu/dancing-on-ice-2018-torvill-and-deans-huge-demands-exposed-ahead-of-star-studded-return/ https://briefnews.eu/dancing-on-ice-2018-torvill-and-deans-huge-demands-exposed-ahead-of-star-studded-return/#respond Fri, 24 Nov 2017 05:29:35 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/dancing-on-ice-2018-torvill-and-deans-huge-demands-exposed-ahead-of-star-studded-return/

The ITV reality series took a three year breather after a nine season run in 2014, until it was announced earlier this year that another batch of celebrities will be hitting the rink in front of millions next year.

However, Jayne Torvill and her partner in crime Christopher Dean have exclusively revealed to Express.co.uk what they’re demanding from the Dancing on Ice revival.

“It needs to come back bigger, better and fresh,” Jayne, 60, stressed. “All we need is two or three people who will be really good skaters.”

Christopher, 59, assured: “It won’t come back with the same look as before.”

The Winter Olympic champions, who put the sport on the map, admitted they were initially “susceptive” about the show’s comeback.

“ITV came back to us about doing it again and we were really susceptive because when it finished we were ready for it to finish,” Jayne explained. “We’d done so much, it was our 30 year anniversary and it was a natural point for us.

“It got to that point after nine years. ITV said if we weren’t going to do it they weren’t going to do it without us and then there was a change at ITV and the new head said we’d like to bring it back. You don’t know you miss something until it’s gone.”

Christopher added: “It was good to have that break though.”

Not only will Dancing On Ice be skating back onto the small screen, it will be returning with a nationwide tour with a featuring a host of celebrities and their professional partners.

The 27 show spectacular will open at London’s iconic SSE Wembley Arena on 23 March.  The tour will then visit some of the biggest entertainment venues across the UK, including Sheffield’s FlyDSA Arena, Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena, Manchester Arena, the SSE Hydro in Glasgow and a homecoming at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena.

What’s more, the spectacle will give lucky ticket-holders the chance to vote for their favourite stars on the night, giving the hopefuls a second chance of victory.

“You’re coming to a show but you’re also making decisions about that night,” Jayne enthused.

“I think for people who will come to the show, if you’re a fan of the TV show, it’s completely different when you see it live,” Robert insisted. “The momentum, the speed. The professionals get the chance to show their stuff.”

Dancing On Ice Live is touring the UK from March 23rd until April 15th 2018, for tickets and venues please visit: www.dancingonicetour.co.uk.

Dancing on Ice is expected to return to ITV early 2018.

The popular figure skating programme – that saw celebrities partner up with a professional skater – pulled in 13 million viewers at its peak.

And now the ITV hit is set to make a sensational return with Olympic champion Jane revealing it will have a new and “refreshed” look when it relaunches.

“The show will definitely be refreshed but the basics will be the same, we will still be teaching celebrities how to skate,” she told The Sun.

The gold medalist continued: “It was a different sort of platform being in the studio – we like to be creative and come up with new things. There’s a new bar to set when the show returns.”

The reality programme was fronted by Jayne, 59, and her Olympic partner Christopher Dean during it’s nine-year stint.

But the skating show – originally hosted by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby – was axed in 2014 due to failing ratings.

Now Jayne has confessed who is at the top of her wish list to make the comeback a huge success.

She added: “My son is a massive Steven Gerrard fan; he wants him to do Dancing On Ice as he’s retired now.”

The figure skater also revealed her son is keen on David Beckham signing up but she told him that’s “unlikely”.

In 2012, Christine Lampard, replaced Holly, 36, and presented alongside Philip, 54, but the hosts for this year’s series are yet to be announced.

The final series was an All-Stars line-up which saw X Factor contestant Ray Quinn crowned the winner with the likes of Jorgie Porter, Bonnie Langford, Joe Pasquale, David Seaman and Gareth Gates also compete.
