No member of the White House administration ever questioned Donald Trump’s ability as the US president or discussed removing him from the office, the US envoy to the UN, Nikki Haley said when asked about the Rod Rosenstein leak.

“I’m there almost every other week and I can tell you never has anyone talked about the 25th amendment, never has anyone even questioned the president’s mental stability or anything,” Haley told ABC on Sunday when asked if the cabinet had any discussion about invoking the amendment that particularly allows a president to be removed from office due to his inability to serve.

Haley also said that she personally has “never been part of it” and has “never heard it.” The US ambassador to the UN added that she has no reasons to believe that it “is a reality at all among all of the cabinet members” and branded any such rumors “absurd.”

The latest White House scandal stems from a piece published by the New York Times, which claimed that the US Deputy Attorney General, Rod Rosenstein, allegedly suggested secretly recording Trump so as to impeach him under the 25th amendment. The article also said that Rosenstein sought to enlist AG Jeff Sessions and the former Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, who is now the White House chief of staff, to help him remove Trump from office.

The Times cited memos by the Former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe as one of its sources. Both McCabe and Rosenstein distanced themselves from this report. The deputy AG also called it “inaccurate and factually incorrect.”

However, Trump himself seemed to be unnerved by the explosive report as he vowed to rid the Justice Department of “lingering stench” following the publication.

Despite being heavily depleted with the loss of three regular starters Paul Izzo, Ben Garuccio and George Blackwood to Olyroos duty, Adelaide did not look out of place with a plethora of fresh faces in Perth on Friday night.

The win all started when German Daniel Adlung was at the pointy end of a fine team goal in the 10th minute before Nathan Konstandopoulos scored a brilliant second 61 minutes later at nib Stadium.

Substitute Johan Absalonsen made it 3-0 when he picked off a Liam Reddy error in the 85th minute to jag his third goal of the season.

It was Adelaide’s biggest win of the season which was on its way when Adlung smacked the ball in the net from 12m after a move was started deep in defence when Jordan Elsey, Baba Diawara, Michael Marrone and Nikola Mileusnic all got involved before the German ran from the halfway line to score a second goal of the season.

Glory did have its first half chances with Daniel Margush — in goal for his first start of the season for Izzo — made a brilliant save from a Andreu effort in the 15th minute before he was again called into action from a Joe Mills 30m shot .

A minute later Mileusnic received a fine ball from Baba who was celebrating his 30th birthday but with the off-side flag incorrectly brandished the winger failed shot off target.

Adlung;’s match then came to a premature end, forced off with a back injury before the break as Baba who saw his header graze the crossbar from an Isaias ball in the 30th minute was replaced at half time.

Speaking at the Aspen Security Forum on Thursday, Pompeo argued that “from the administration’s perspective” it would be desirable to “separate” Kim from the nuclear capacity of the rogue state, calling the authoritarian leader “the thing that is the most dangerous” about the North Korean situation.

“The North Korean people I’m sure are lovely people and would love to see him go,” CNN quoted Pompeo as saying.

While Pompeo appeared to soften the statement, saying that he was not supporting regime change in North Korea, but merely the separation of “that regime from this system,” the North Korean authorities were up in arms over what they denounced as Pompeo’s “reckless remarks.”

Saying that the CIA director’s comments “have gone over the line,” North Korea’s foreign minister said in a statement Tuesday that it would “preemptively annihilate those countries and entities” by all possible “kinds of strike means, including the nuclear ones,” if there is imminent danger to their leader’s well-being, the statement, circulated by Pyongyang’s official Korean Central News Agency.

Referring in particular to the rhetoric of the CIA director, the ministry added it would take immediate action “should the US dare to show even the slightest sign of attempt to remove” Kim.

“We will strike a merciless blow at the heart of the US with our powerful nuclear hammer, honed and hardened over time,” it said, adding that “the likes of Pompeo” would face “catastrophic and miserable consequences” if they attempted to overthrow Kim.

Meanwhile, there have been reports from US military sources indicating that North Korea could be bracing for another missile launch to be carried out as soon as this week.

An unidentified Pentagon official told AFP on Tuesday that Washington believes North Korea may launch an intermediate-range missile or Hwasong-14 type of an inter-continental ballistic missile on July 27, ironically, to mark the date of signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement of July 27, 1953.

Earlier, North Korea claimed it had successfully test-fired a Hwasong-14 missile on July 4, saying that the rocket flew 933 kilometers and reached an altitude of 2,802 kilometers. Pyongyang alleged the launch was its first ever successful test of an intercontinental ballistic missile. However, this data was disputed by South Korean and Russian military experts. Following the launch, South Korea’s intelligence service said that it was unlikely the North had succeeded in “securing the technology,” pointing out that the pariah state lacks the appropriate testing facilities and casting doubt over whether the missile reentered the atmosphere.

The Russian Defense Ministry called into question Pyongyang’s assertions that the missile was in effect an ICBM. Citing its own estimates, the ministry said the missile flew just about 535km and reached an altitude of 510km.

Nevertheless, the launch was followed by days of lavish celebrations in North Korea, including a dazzling fireworks display, pop concerts with high-ranking North Korean officials in attendance, as well as Kim Jong-un himself.

Few stages in political theater claim such contrast between actor and audience. Here, the 6-foot-7 accountant with the wonky Dutch name, a self-effacing dad-grin and military-cut incarnate. There, the children, mostly Black, some Hispanic, all decidedly working class-or-less in this voucher school.

But the Wisconsin legislator goes in anyway: Who has heard of a man named Frederick Douglass? All hands raised: He was a slave, who escaped to New York and wrote a top-selling book, one kid answers. And Kooyenga tells the tale, ending the allegory with his truth: “If you remember nothing from today, it’s that some things do not change even 100 years later. If you want to be free…you need to learn how to read.” It could all seem like stagecraft, pandering, the state rep from the ’burbs lecturing the inner-city with its own heroes. Except there sits My Struggle and My Freedom in his home library in Brookfield, next to Winston Churchill biographies and Ulyssess S. Grant’s memoirs, his name scribbled in the front flap for would-be borrowers turned takers.

This is how 38-year-old Kooyenga lays his claim to “big tent” Republicanism, a phrase he does not use himself. Instead, he presents as evidence to your correspondent a recent Friday: the breakfast at Panera with an Asian-American school board candidate who he’s endorsing; playing pickup basketball at the United Community Center, a private charter school that’s boasted strong results for its almost entirely Hispanic student body; the barbershop visit where the Trump-supporting owner pulls out a rifle to show off against a backdrop of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit editions and Playboy magazines. If identity is the company one keeps, Kooyenga has worked to craft one of broad appeal — a fact Republicans are counting on if he challenges popular Democratic U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin next year. The U.S. Army Reserve Captain who built roads and schools in Iraq as part of the 2008 surge, is both liked and trusted by his colleagues — armed with a Paul Ryan-like gift for numbers, he handled a $ 650 million tax cut reform bill in 2013 (and like Ryan, he waxes poetic about his own conservative solutions to poverty).

Kooyenga has an ability to cross bridges others would rather not walk.

Kooyenga says he’s considering a run seriously, but won’t declare until he, the vice-chair of the Wisconsin House Finance Committee, has helped pass the state budget sometime this summer. “He’s got all the talent in the world,” says state Rep. Adam Neylon, a fellow Republican. But Kooyenga won’t have an easy job of a run, from either side. As many as 10 conservatives are manuevering, with a handful potentially coming from Kooyenga’s own backyard, which could split his voter base in a crowded primary.

And that’s just the Republicans. Despite Wisconsin’s recent Republican turn in backing Scott Walker and Donald Trump, the incumbent Baldwin has seen her favorability rise in a March Marquette University poll and has proven an able campaigner, winning her seat in 2013 against one of Wisconsin’s most popular governors in Tommy Thompson. She will also be well-funded, with Democrats seeing her as a can’t-lose seat in their hopes to retake the Senate, and may benefit if an anti-Trump backlash from voters emerges. Democrats paint Kooyenga as dry-eyed in the face of trauma; Democratic Rep. Jimmy Anderson cites his opposition to minimum wage increase, a perceived antipathy towards unions and inaction on envrionmental issues. “It’s not red interest, not blue interest, it’s human interest. That’s something Sen. Baldwin has in spades.”

And yet, Kooyenga has an ability to cross bridges others would rather not walk, Anderson admits, noting how Kooyenga was one of the few Republicans to visit the newly-elected Democrat in his office. Kooyenga’s promised to work with Anderson to allow production of medical marijuana in-state (it’s currently legal to use only). While driving on the phone with state Sen. Lena Taylor, Kooyenga amicably promises to work with the nearby Democrat. It’s magnanimous, considering she once suggested his Milwaukee Public School reform plan was part of a legislative tradition of “raping the children of MPS.” (The plan would have allowed the takeover of up to five under-performing schools.)

To those who’d question his inability to connect with troubled or working Americans, Kooyenga can turn to his origin story: Born to a Teamsters garbageman and nurse mother in the Chicago Southside, the lackluster highschooler fell two-and-a-half stories while working construction after graduation: the experience left him with two broken ankles, a wheelchair, and a newfound academic seriousness. At Moraine Valley Community College, he was recruited to play at NCAA Division III Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wisconsin when a scout witnessed one of his rare, strong performances — a single moment of divinely-inspired balling, he says. (After playing pickup with him, this reporter agrees this quip is not false humility.) In his mid-twenties after almost a half-decade at global accounting giant KMPG, Kooyenga was itching to join the military. His colleague, Jennifer Smith, challenged him to go through with it – so he headed to the U.S. Army enrollment office the next day. A year later, he proposed to Smith, now the mother to his four children.

Even to the group of not-yet-voters gathered in the St. Margaret Mary classroom, Kooyenga dutifully tells this political genesis story. The kids are curious about the Important Man before them. He’s asked if he has a limo? A mansion? (No, no.) Pipes up another bite-size voice: Since you can pass laws, can you cancel laws? “I love to cancel laws,” the conservative jumps: “I am the king of cancelling laws.”
