REVEALED: Top 50 heart-racers – which things get YOUR heart thumping? https://briefnews.eu/revealed-top-50-heart-racers-which-things-get-your-heart-thumping-2/ https://briefnews.eu/revealed-top-50-heart-racers-which-things-get-your-heart-thumping-2/#respond Thu, 28 Sep 2017 23:47:55 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/revealed-top-50-heart-racers-which-things-get-your-heart-thumping-2/

Going on a first date, confronting someone and having a near miss while driving are all guaranteed to get the ticker thumping.

Exercise was the most likely cause, followed by having jolly good sex, attending a job interview and going on a first date.

An argument came fifth, with making a presentation at work and bringing up a difficult issue close behind, say researchers from OnePoll.com.

Other reasons include taking an exam, bumping into an ex, watching a scary film or TV programme and hearing a noise at night.

The average adult will experience a pounding heart four times a week, with more than three quarters admitting it is fairly easy to set it off, the study of 2,000 Britons showed.

And six in 10 admitted they worry about their heart health, with one in five consulting a health professional about their concerns.

Dr Sarah Brewer, GP and medical director at Healthspan, which commissioned the research, said: “It’s important to keep an eye on your heart health and speak to your GP if your heart races for no reason.”

She added: “Making one or two small changes to heart health can make a difference.”

Vava’s Moov 14 gaming earbuds pound your noggin with thumping bass https://briefnews.eu/vavas-moov-14-gaming-earbuds-pound-your-noggin-with-thumping-bass/ https://briefnews.eu/vavas-moov-14-gaming-earbuds-pound-your-noggin-with-thumping-bass/#respond Fri, 18 Aug 2017 01:35:45 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/vavas-moov-14-gaming-earbuds-pound-your-noggin-with-thumping-bass/

For around $ 25, you can find an endless number of earbuds online. But Vava, a manufacturer of variety of consumer-electronics products, is aiming to win over the gaming audience with its entrance into this sector. The company’s Moov 14 Gaming Earbuds are available now for $ 26, and it’s positioning them with a focus on 3D surround sound.

Vava talks about its “frequency division” technology for better enabling virtual 7.1. Does it work? Sometimes. But the real highlight here is the heavy bass.

What you’ll like

It’s got bass

When I first plugged the Moov 14 into my PC, I didn’t notice the surround sound. I couldn’t notice anything beyond the overwhelming bass. The earbuds excel when it comes to the rumbling lower frequencies. Explosions, engines, and footsteps on floors have a thunderous quality to them.

I found that the bass rumbled regardless what device I used to test these earbuds. I plugged them into my phone, and the audio playlist I use for trying out headphones sounded deeper than I’ve ever heard it without going through an amplifier or a USB-powered headset. With the Moov 14’s combination of portable earbud configuration and thumping bass, you have the capability to add extra energy to your games anywhere you go.

I loved using the earbuds with my Switch, because Nintendo’s hybrid portable doesn’t put out a lot of power through its headphone jack. But this doesn’t matter with the Moov 14. It can take a weak signal and give it life with the way it handles bass.

Comfortable design

I also love the fit of the Moov 14. The earbuds’ bases have a bulbous globe design, and you can change between three different kinds of coverings. I went with the largest buds, and they didn’t cause any itching or other annoyances.

The round driver casings, which you place into the flaps of your ears, use an aluminum alloy that has a nice, cool feel against the skin. I also found that these metal driver housings tend to hold in place better than plastic earbuds. That means they don’t fall out while you’re up and moving around.

What you won’t like

Bass overwhelms everything

The Moov 14 isn’t too bassy. The issue is that the earbuds do a poorer job with everything else. Mid-tones and highs sound weak, and that means the bass washes it out whether you’re listening to the earbuds through the digital-to-analog converter in your phone or through a dedicated headphone amp. Ideally, I’d like to keep this bass and have highs and mids to match.

When I listened to Steely Dan’s “Hey Ninenteen,” the bassline and percussion pop to life, but the singing and the rest of the band sound thin. A similar phenomenon happens with the surround sound. Virtual stereo surround is a standard feature these days, and while some people hate it, it can work. And it works here, but it was difficult to pinpoint directional audio if too much bass was happening simultaneously.

Conclusion

The Vava Moov 14 is an easy recommendation if bass is what you care about the most. For $ 26, these earbuds will make most games feel like the latter parts of a dubstep track, and that’s the benefit of using earbuds. Because the audio drivers are closer to your ears, they can power strong-sounding bass even from weak sources.

It’s also a fine communications and media device with a built-in microphone and controls on its cable. The big negative here is that the bass is sometimes too strong, but that is only a problem in specific circumstances like a game that has a lot of dialogue happening during action sequences.

Otherwise, the Moov 14 performs great.

Tub Thumping! McLaren May Build Carbon Structures for Other Automakers https://briefnews.eu/tub-thumping-mclaren-may-build-carbon-structures-for-other-automakers/ https://briefnews.eu/tub-thumping-mclaren-may-build-carbon-structures-for-other-automakers/#respond Mon, 10 Jul 2017 21:08:27 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/tub-thumping-mclaren-may-build-carbon-structures-for-other-automakers/ McLaren tubThe press conferences that automakers call to report their financial results are never as exciting as the product launches where they let us whale on their spiffy new cars, and that’s doubly true for McLaren. Nevertheless, they often contain fascinating details. So it proved at McLaren’s numbers presser, conducted during the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Much was as we’d expected to hear: the company is doing well, sales increased by nearly 100 percent after the launch of the Sports Series last year, the U.S. remains the largest single market, buying 1139 cars, the company remains on track to build 5000 cars a year by the end of the decade…

–

But then the company’s Chief Financial Officer Paul Buddin dropped in a fascinating detail: The new plant in Sheffield, England, that will build McLaren’s next-generation carbon-fiber tubs will boast an annual capacity of 10,000 monocoque chassis (like that for the all-new 720S seen above) when it comes on stream at the end of 2019.

–

Keen to understand the difference between those two numbers, we cornered McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt after the conference. He said that much of the gap between a sales target of 5000 and production capacity of 10,000 is headroom to allow for any future sales expansion. “It would be very short-sighted to limit ourselves to 5000 cars,” he said. But then he all but admitted that McLaren aims to build carbon structures for other automakers.

–

Given McLaren’s long experience with carbon-bodied road cars, from the original F1 (above) onward, this makes a lot of sense. Flewitt suggested the company could become a supplier to other automakers looking for limited-run performance cars, either with carbon structures or even more extensive engineering projects.

–

“We won’t do it until we’re fully up and running ourselves,” he said, “but it is something that we are considering as an obvious expansion.”

–

–

We’ve already told you that McLaren’s next-generation architecture will be far more adaptable than the current one, potentially even scaling up enough to make a 2+2 model. The flexibility means the same core technology could be used to produce very different models from McLaren’s range. As more manufacturers move to lightweight technology, McLaren’s expertise could become a sizeable additional revenue stream for the company.

‘Baby Driver’ Trailer: Edgar Wright Returns with a Thumping Soundtrack https://briefnews.eu/baby-driver-trailer-edgar-wright-returns-with-a-thumping-soundtrack/ https://briefnews.eu/baby-driver-trailer-edgar-wright-returns-with-a-thumping-soundtrack/#respond Sun, 12 Mar 2017 06:21:51 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/baby-driver-trailer-edgar-wright-returns-with-a-thumping-soundtrack/ Baby Driver Trailer

This weekend brings the premiere of Baby Driver to the South by Southwest Film Festival. We’ll have a full review from our own Jacob Hall who is down in Austin, Texas for the film’s premiere (among other things), but until then, fans can satiate their appetite for a new film from the director of Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs the World with the trailer for this new film.

Baby Driver follows a young getaway driver named Baby (Ansel Elgort) who is nearly mute and suffers from a condition that leaves a constant ringing n his ears, so he relies on his own personal soundtrack to drown out the noise so he can do what he does best. Edgar Wright promised a movie that was powered by music, and the first trailer certainly gives us that.

Watch the Baby Driver trailer after the jump.

This looks like exactly the movie that I was hoping for, and it’s something that Edgar Wright’s most loyal fans might not have expected from him. Baby Driver is much more action thriller than comedy. Though there are moments of levity, and certainly some laughs, especially from that Mike Myers mask confusion, this is not meant to be a super funny movie like Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz. It’s something much different for Edgar Wright, and that’s something to be excited about.

The director previously said about the movie:

“I always wanted to do an action movie that was powered by music. It’s something that’s very much a part of my previous films and I thought of this idea of how to take that a stage further by having a character who listens to music the entire time. So, you have this young getaway driver who has to soundtrack his entire existence, particularly the bank robberies and fast getaways that come afterwards.”

We only get just a taste of that soundtrack and getaway action, but it’s just enough to get me super excited for August to get here immediately. This could be a huge breakout for Ansel Elgort to take on a wider variety of roles following his major role in The Fault in Stars. As for the rest of the cast, we get to see Jon Hamm in a role that is uncharacteristic of the roles he usually takes. There’s also Jamie Foxx, Elsa Gonzalez, Lily James, Jon Bernthal and Kevin Spacey.

A talented, young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.

Baby Driver is premiering at SXSW on August 11.
