If Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin has his way, the drama’s recently ordered spinoff pilot will be called The Long Night.

HBO greenlit the officially as-yet-untitled pilot — one of five prequel concepts in the running to carry on theThrones mantle after the original series ends in 2019 — on Friday. The fantasy author commented on the potential spinoff on his personal blog Monday.

“My vote would be The Long Night, which says it all,” Martin wrote, referring to the prequel’s era, which is thousands of years before the events of the HBO series based on Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels.

But the scribe admitted that his desires probably wouldn’t shake out. “More likely HBO will want to work the phrase Game of Thrones in there somewhere,” he wrote. “We’ll know sooner or later.”

In the Thrones universe, “the Long Night” refers to an epoch in which night lasted a generation, Westeros was decimated and the White Walkers rose to power.

Last May, HBO announced that it had deals with four writers — Carly Wray (Mad Men), Jane Goldman (X-Men: First Class), Brian Helgeland (Mystic River) and Max Borenstein (Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island) — to “explore different time periods of [George R.R. Martin]’s vast and rich universe.” It was later confirmed that Thrones co-executive producer Bryan Cogman was working on a fifth idea.

Goldman’s concept was chosen for production first. She and Thrones author George R.R. Martin will executive-produce, along with Vince Gerardis (Game of Thrones) and Daniel Zelman (Bloodline). Goldman also will serve as showrunner.

Per the ordered pilot’s official logline, “the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”

In his blog post, Martin also confirmed that one of the concepts had been “shelved… but that does not mean the others are dead.” (TVLine has reached out to HBO for comment.) He added: “Everything I am told indicates that we could film at least one more pilot, and maybe more than one, in the years to come. We do have an entire world and tens of thousands of years of history to play with, after all. But this is television, so nothing is certain.”

Now this is a lip sync battle.

In a new ad for Doritos and Mountain Dew, which will air during Super Bowl LII on Feb. 4, Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage and acting vet Morgan Freeman face off in an epic showcase of rap — er, “rap” — skills.

First, representing the new Doritos Blaze flavor, Dinklage mouths the words to Busta Rhymes’ mega-fast verse on the Chris Brown song “Look At Me Now” while walking through a fiery room that could be the handiwork of Daenerys’ dragons.

Next up is Freeman, who gives a (literally) goosebump-inducing performance of Missy Elliott’s “Get Ur Freak On” while hawking Mountain Dew Ice. Even better, both actors get a little help from the original artists of the songs, who appear in cool cameos throughout the spot.

The year 2018 is long and devoid of a certain fantasy epic.

Game of Thrones will not return until 2019, HBO announced Thursday, confirming months of speculation about when the dragon drama would return for its eighth and final season.

The cabler did not release a specific start date for the six-episode run. It did, however, confirm that episodes will be written by showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, as well as Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill. As previously reported, Benioff and Weiss also will direct — including the series finale — as will David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik.

In December, series star Sophie Turner told our sister site Variety that her series wouldn’t be back until 2019, echoing sentiments earlier voiced by her castmate Liam Cunningham.

In October, Cunningham said that Thrones was gearing up to start production on the last season and would be shooting through summer 2018 — which, given the amount of post-production work the show requires, wouldn’t leave much time for a Season 8 premiere by the end of that year. In the Variety interview, Turner confirmed that there are “six or seven months left” in shooting Season 8.

The BBC historical drama follows the infamous Guy Fawkes plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605, telling a different side to the gruesome tale. 

Kit Harington plays mastermind Robert Catesby, who initially recruited Thomas Wintour (played by Edward Holcroft) and Guy (Tom Cullen) to execute the abominable plan. 

However, some fans of the show’s lead actor and executive producer Kit struggled to stay on board, after witnessing a revolting scene which showed Lady Dorothy (Sian Webber) being tortured to death for harbouring a Catholic priest and his two alter servers.

After the lengthy ordeal finally ended, the show went one step further and depicted a man being hung, drawn and quartered. 

Expressing their disgust on Twitter, fans couldn’t hide their surprise at the gratuitous images of the slaughter, likening it to HBO fantasy hit Game of Thrones.

“Flippin heck Gunpowder is worse than GoT,”(sic) one person wrote.

Another conceded: “Okay fully worse than GoT #Gunpowder”

“Really is like Game of Thrones #Gunpowder,” a third agreed, as another viewer speculated: “The BBC seems to be turning the Gunpowder Plot into Peaky Blinders meets Game of Thones.”

Some fans weren’t totally convinced the series had reached the same depths of George R. R. Martin’s powerhouse adaptation, as one said: “Well #Gunpowder is brutal. Nearly Game of Thrones level deaths there mind.”

Speaking at the launch of Gunpowder however, director of the series J. Blakeman confessed that the BBC had given the green light for the shocking moment.

“We had a discussion and it was always going to be a BBC One show for a BBC audience but there was never any real resistance,” he admitted.

Gunpowder continues Saturday at 9pm on BBC One.

The hugely anticipated spin-off from the X-Men franchise is about to give fans their first sneak peek.

New Mutants is the latest Marvel comicbook adaptation to hit the big screen bt will have a decidedly younger and fresher feel.

Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams will take centre stage as the lupine Wolfsbane – clearly there is a shaggy theme in her career.

Fans have been desperately hoping that someof the major X-Men stars will also make an appearance but the filmmakers have been keeping casting and plot details under very tight wraps.

Boone released a teaser for the teaser trailer on his Instagram today.

The main image is a plain black background with the time 12.01am.

All it says is one Friday the 13th themed phrase with a series of cryptic hashtags: “There’s Something New To Fear #tomorrow #newmutants #teaser #xmen #thenewmutants #fridaythe13th.”

What does it mean?

Put it all together and it is clear that the new teaser trailer will arrive just after 12 noon tomorrow. However it will be US Pacific Standard Time, which means 8.01pm in the UK. 

Brit star Williams will play a girl called Rahne Sinclair (Wolfsbane), who has the ability to transform into a wolf or an intermediate half-human, half-wolf state at will, while retaining her human intelligence and awareness.

Wolfsbane is one of the key players in The New Mutants, who often operate separately from the main X-Men and have their own story arcs in the comic books. As well as shape-shifting, in some versions of the comics she is also bulletproof and virtually inpenetrable.

The upcoming Marvel movie has also confirmed the casting of Anya Taylor-Joy as Illya Rasputin, aka Magik. Marvel artist Phil Noto posted the first image of Williams and Taylor-Joy.

The main cast of New Mutants also includes Danielle Moonstar aka Mirage (Blu Hunt), Sam Guthrie aka Cannonball (Charlie Heaton) and Roberto da Costa aka Sunspot (Henry Zaga). 

Despite early indications otherwise, the latest reports say that James McAvoy will not reprise his role as Professor X, after all.

“Do you remember when we used to read normal sentences, but like Sean Bean, like Ned Stark?” Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams asks her bestie/co-star Sophie Turner at the top of this Carpool Karaoke clip. And then things go rapidly, entertainingly downhill.

The video above, part of the Carpool episode available on Apple Music tonight, finds the Stark sister actresses running through “Hakuna Matata” from The Lion King and Six Mix A Lot’s “Baby Got Back” in the voice of the late, lamented Hand of the King. It gets weird. They get silly. There’s a Super Mario Bros. reference. It’s worth a watch.

Also of note: The actresses shot the episode for the Late Late Show spinoff during the South by Southwest festival in March, which may explain why Williams talks about Arya returning to Winterfell as though it’s not a done deal.

That’s the quandry in which we were placed on Thursday when we chatted with Game of Thrones‘ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who gamely accepted the best wishes on behalf of his incestuous alter ego.

“It’s very, very exciting. It’s wonderful. He’s preparing,” the actor said, laughing. “He’s been out looking at nursery items. And he’s throwing a baby shower for Cersei next week — that’s why we won’t be in Episode 6.”

Coster-Waldau was in New York to promote his latest film, Shot Caller, but we got him to answer a few questions about the Kingslayer’s most recent drama — including that miraculous recovery from a near-drowning. Read on for the scoop.

TVLINE|All joking aside, Jaime hasn’t been able to be excited about any of his kids being born, at least publicly.
No. When she gives him this news, for a second, he can’t help but feel that moment of [1:05] because it’s clearly been something he’s wanted his whole life. And now, for a second, it’s like this could happen. Obviously, he forgets about everything that’s around. [Laughs] How crazy this world is. I think he has a moment of feeling joyful. And then, of course, they hug and she breaks the spell by saying [Lowers voice], “Don’t ever betray me again.” I have a question that I would like to put out there: How did he betray her? Because I still haven’t understood that. I still don’t get it. I know we did the scene. I still don’t know how he betrayed her. Can you answer me that question?

TVLINE|I would assume she means the Tyrion meeting, right?
Yeah, but [Jaime] didn’t set that up. Bronn set that up. He met with Tyrion, he went straight to her and said, “I met with Tyrion.” I don’t know how he betrayed her. Maybe because he should have killed Tyrion instantly. Is that it?

TVLINE|Dude, this is your world. I’m just —
It’s not my world. I’m just visiting. [Laughs]

TVLINE|My follow-up to all this is: Is he afraid of her? It seems like it would be a smart thing to be afraid of her.
That was his first question of the season. She asks him, “Are you afraid of me?” “Should I be?” That’s his answer. “Should I be?” Maybe he should. [Laughs] So I guess we’ll have to see if he should be afraid of her. I don’t want to get into any spoilers, so it’s not a yes and it’s not a no. It’s like, I don’t know. [Laughs] I think most people should be afraid of her. She seems to be capable of quite extreme acts of losing her cool and then blowing s–t up. [Laughs] Just don’t get on the wrong side of her.

TVLINE|We watched Jaime try to explain to her that there’s a big dragon, and there are more of them on the way. She didn’t seem to care. How important do you think it is to him to make her see what’s happening?
That’s funny. Because in a way, she’s not the only one. Daenerys doesn’t quite believe, Tyrion doesn’t quite believe that whole thing with the white walkers. In our world, we still have people debating, “Is climate change real or not?” And though everyone says “We have the proof, I’ve seen it!” people say, “I’m not sure. I don’t believe that.” I’m not trying to make this about climate change, but I’m just saying: Seeing is believing, in many ways. It is such a crazy thing. Now, he comes in looking like he’s just gotten too close to a barbecue. So you would think that would lend some sort of, like she’d go, “Maybe it’s right. You do smell a little burned.” But it’s Cersei. And in a way, she’s also saying “I don’t care.” She’s not going to allow herself to be taken alive, I think. She’s willing to go down with the ship, which is unfortunate.

TVLINE|When Tyrion and Jaime met in the tunnels, had your first scene with Peter Dinklage in quite a while. I was a bit taken aback by how angry Jaime still is over the circumstances of their last interaction.
He’s just had his whole army annihilated by a dragon, and his brother is the Hand of that queen, trying to conquer their world. And he killed their father, by the way. He comes with this beautiful speech, which is so true and heartfelt. I believed him when I heard him, when he said, “My father always wanted me dead,” which is true. But Jaime didn’t get to say the obvious thing, which is, “Yeah, I know, brother, that’s why I helped you escape. But you chose to turn around and go back.” He didn’t have to go back.

There’s a lot of love — he loves his brother — but there’s also a lot of betrayal from Jaime’s point of view. Of course for us, as viewers, we say, “Tyrion did the right thing. He killed Tywin because Tywin was terrible.” We kind of want to forget that he also killed Shae because we can’t really justify that, so we won’t talk about that — which makes sense. That’s how we get through life. Jaime is saying, “He killed my father! I know he might not be the best father, but he’s my dad!” You don’t kill your dad. Even though you hate your country, you don’t go and then become right hand to the next country that wants to take your country… That is really what happens to the people of King’s Landing. There’s a foreign power invading the country. I’m just saying: You asked me why he would be angry. That’s a little upsetting. [Laughs]

Game of ThronesTVLINE|Do you think, now that Jaime has seen the dragon, he’s primed to more readily believe that there’s an army of the dead bearing down on Westeros?
He’s willing to believe a lot, but he has a lot on his plate right now. [Laughs] He’s the commander of an army that doesn’t stand a chance, that’s been brutally attacked. He has to try to make sense of what he just witnessed. And he knows that they can’t beat this army. He knows they have no chance. So in his world, the best outcome would be to make some kind of truce with Daenerys. Unfortunately, his sister doesn’t necessarily share his ideas, because she’s already out buying mercenaries.

TVLINE|Clear something up for me: In the Loot Train Battle, Jaime’s horse gallops through water that barely covers its hooves. And then Bronn knocks him off, and all of a sudden he’s sinking into really deep water.
What you didn’t know was when the dragon landed, its left foot went into this very muddy part of the river and created this crater. And also, what’s not part of the story, which should have been told, I think, is that Bronn for four years was lifeguard at the King’s Landing beach. He saved a lot of people there. Which also explains how he could drag a very heavy Jaime out of the water. I said they should put that into the script, but they were like, “Yeah, we don’t need to do that.” But there are some pictures out there of Bronn sitting out on the beach in his Speedos. It would be great, because Jerome [Flynn] could pull that off. It’s a side of Bronn we haven’t seen. [Laughs]

The 36-year-old actress, who plays Yara Greyjoy in the HBO fantasy show, was delighted to hear that her “food heaven” was chosen by viewers. 

However, the heavily pregnant star forgot her condition and began to jump up and down, only to stop herself when she realised she could be about induce labour. 

“Oh, thank you,” she told viewers. “This is when the baby comes out live on TV!”

A horrified Matt Tebbutt replied: “Not on my watch!” 

“We all want live viewers but not like that,” the 43-year-old chef joked. 

Gemma also teased upcoming Game of Thrones storylines when asked by the Saturday Kitchen host what she could tell him. 

Tight-lipped, she laughed: “Yes, the Greyjoys will take up knitting… Of course not but you wouldn’t want me to either!”

Gemma added that it is easy for her not to reveal spoilers because she doesn’t know what’s coming up. 

This follows a hysterical moment earlier on the show which saw the presenter crack up as a caller revealed that “he has crabs”.

One person bluntly said: “@HBO’s announcement of the series #Confederate confirms that our dumping the channel was a really good decision,” while another posted to Twitter: “’Confederate’ is a horrible idea for a new @HBO series… #CancelHBOConfederate.”

Others warned the subscription network, known for taking risks and shocking its viewers, that the series would be detrimental to the progression in America. 

“This series shouldn’t be made if it glorifies the confederate cause. A lot of people in the south would embrace slavery if they could,” one person tweeted, as another agreed: “@HBO..you don’t have a f***ing clue how bad this will be for the country, this Confederate series…last thing we need.”

Many more fans were angry about the decision, and one simply refused to watch a show with what they deemed an uncomfortable premise, saying: “I could not watch a series in a world where slavery remains legal and has evolved into a modern institution. #Confederate.”

A second fumed at the channel for trying to create another controversial series off the back of the fantasy epic, saying: “@HBO @HBOPR I get you want another must-watch series post-GOT but ‘Confederate’ is NOT the way to go. Rethink. #TakeEmDownEverywhere.”

Game of Thrones, the most popular fantasy show on the planet, recently broke records for HBO, but also came under fire recently for its apparent lack of diversity in casting. 

John Bodega, star of the new Star Wars trilogy, said he refused to watch films and television programmes if they’re only full of white actors, and put George R. R. Martin’s book-to-screen series in that category despite there being a number of prominent black actors on the show.

“There are no black people on Game of Thrones. You don’t see one black person in Lord of the Rings. I ain’t paying money to always see one type of person on-screen,” he explained.

The actress took on the role of Sally, a local girl who stole the heart of lead character Gary Tichfield (played by Elliott Tittensor). 

In the 2012 film, Gary and his friends attempt to get tickets to The Stone Roses’ legendary gig at Spike Island in Cheshire but fail to gain entry. 

Refusing to give up, he meets up with Sally and the pair take drugs on the opposite side of the fence to where the concert is taking place. 

It’s then that Gary and Sally share their first kiss as they dance to the band before heading back to his house. 

Sally can be seen undressing out of her dungarees and hooded jacket as she locks lips with Gary. 

He slowly removes her clothing in the intimate scene and she can be seen lying on her back with her bra on full display as they passionately embrace. 

Emilia is no stranger to stripping off and in for as Daenerys Targaryen.

“I don’t have any qualms saying to anyone it was not the most enjoyable experience,” she told TIME magazine. 

“How could it be? I don’t know how many actresses enjoy doing that part of it.”

Game of Thrones returns to HBO on July 16 in the US and will be simulcast in the UK at 2am on July 17 on Sky Atlantic. Catch up on season one to six on NOW TV.
