The space agency said it is now aiming for Tuesday, September 27, for its next launch attempt. If that fails, it will try to send the rocket skyward on Sunday, October 2.

Last week, NASA said it was targeting Friday, September 23 for a launch attempt, but that date has now been scrapped.

Specifically, the September 27 launch attempt involves a 70-minute launch window that opens at 11:37 a.m. ET, with the Orion capsule arriving back on Earth about six weeks later on November 5. If that launch is unable to proceed, NASA will aim instead for October 2, with a 109-minute launch window opening at 2:52 p.m. ET and the spacecraft returning to Earth on November 11.

Prior to the attempted September 27 launch, NASA said it needs to perform a fueling test, an exercise it plans to conduct no earlier than Wednesday, September 21.

“The updated dates represent careful consideration of multiple logistical topics,” the agency said in a release on Monday, adding that the new timetable “also allow managers to ensure teams have enough rest and to replenish supplies of cryogenic propellants.”

NASA called off the August 29 launch attempt with just 40 minutes on the countdown clock after engineers identified an issue with one of the engines on the rocket’s core stage.

Five days later, it halted final preparations for another launch after a fuel leak came to the engineers’ attention.

The 97-meter-tall rocket and Orion spacecraft remain in place on the launchpad at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The uncrewed Artemis I mission will send the Orion on a fly-by of the moon, with the spacecraft returning to Earth six weeks later. If the test mission is a success, NASA will send astronauts on the same flight path for the Artemis II mission. Then, possibly in 2025, Artemis III will endeavor to put the first woman and first person of color on the lunar surface in the first crewed moon landing in five decades.

NASA wants to use the early Artemis missions to build a moon base for long-duration crewed missions, using what it learns for the first astronaut mission to Mars, possibly in the late 2030s.

Actor Adil Ray, 46, and Charlotte Hawkins, 45, presented the ITV show on Tuesday and spoke with Lord Jeffrey Archer, 80, about a number of topics, including the Government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic. However, with the Conservative politician releasing a book at the same time as the Life Stories star, he took down the journalist, joking they weren’t in the same division.

With Hawkins holding up a copy of the guest’s book, Hidden In Plain Sight, the presenter asked: “Are you worried about the competition?”

Lord Archer replied: “Oh good heavens no. I mean he’s top of division three, fighting to get into division two.

“I’m just sorry he isn’t there this morning to fight back,” the politician joked, adding: “I would have loved a punch up with Piers.”

However, the novelist did wish his opponent “luck,” telling the hosts: “He’s very good on television and he’s very good on his cricket.

“No, forget about the book, Piers. I shall not be searching for it on the best-sellers list,” the former MP said.

Hawkins said to Lord Archer: “I suspect he’s not going to let you forget that comment,” before thanking the guest for joining them.

Taking to Twitter, those watching at home commented on the former MP’s takedown of the outspoken journalist.

One viewer wrote: “What a nice conversation with these 3 this morning. Certainly a change from the shouting and arguing that usually takes place. Great to see Lord Archer looking so well.”

“GMB is turning into the book club, not in a good way,” a second added, with a third remarking: “Fighting talk from Archer @piersmorgan.”

Susanna Reid, 49, and her co-star will return to screen next week after taking a short break from the show over the half-term break.

Viewers haven’t seen the pair at the news desk since the middle of October, having only returned to the show following a summer break in September.

Informing those watching at home of his absence, Piers said at the time: “We’ve got half term off, really exciting, I’m going to move from the sofa downstairs to upstairs for my holiday.

“You get a two-week circuit breaker from us,” his co-host jibed, before explaining they would be back to cover the American Presidential Election.

The presenters will be on-screen for all week when they return as they usually only host for three or four days.

“The good news is because I know you’ll be missing us, we’ll be back for the US election week, and we’ll be there all week, all five days,” Piers said.

The Life Stories star added: “Last time we were on the roof in the middle of the two hotels, parted by less than a mile, Hillary Clinton in one and Donald Trump in the other.

“The reason we’re coming in all week is, I don’t think it’ll be over on the first night, I think we’re going to be in for a bit of a run.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.

Kominsky Method Shocker: Alan Arkin Exits Ahead of Third and Final Season https://briefnews.eu/kominsky-method-shocker-alan-arkin-exits-ahead-of-third-and-final-season/ https://briefnews.eu/kominsky-method-shocker-alan-arkin-exits-ahead-of-third-and-final-season/#respond Thu, 24 Sep 2020 00:36:47 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/kominsky-method-shocker-alan-arkin-exits-ahead-of-third-and-final-season/

It’s curtains for Alan Arkin on The Kominsky Method: Arkin will not return to the Netflix dramedy for its third and final season, TVLine has confirmed.

According to a rep for the show, Arkin’s decision to exit was made “some time ago,” and his character’s departure will be addressed in the Season 3 storyline. Our sister site Deadline, which first broke the news, reports that Arkin chose to leave the show before the coronavirus pandemic hit the television industry.

Arkin has co-starred for the past two seasons as Norman Newlander, the agent and friend of Michael Douglas’ titular acting coach, Sandy Kominsky. The role has earned him two Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (which he lost to Schitt’s Creek‘s Daniel Levy at the 2020 ceremony earlier this month), as well as two consecutive Golden Globe nods.

Created by Chuck Lorre, The Kominsky Method also stars Sarah Baker (Young Sheldon) as Sandy’s daughter, Mindy, and Nancy Travis (Last Man Standing) as Lisa, one of Sandy’s acting students. The show’s final season was announced in July, but there’s currently no timetable for its return.

Along with The Kominsky Method, several other Netflix series recently announced plans to wrap their runs, including crime drama Ozark, dark comedy Dead to Me and Lucifer, which was revived at the streamer after its initial cancellation.

Third Walking Dead Series Casts One of Its Two Female Leads https://briefnews.eu/third-walking-dead-series-casts-one-of-its-two-female-leads/ https://briefnews.eu/third-walking-dead-series-casts-one-of-its-two-female-leads/#respond Wed, 10 Jul 2019 20:42:51 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/third-walking-dead-series-casts-one-of-its-two-female-leads/

The upcoming Walking Dead spinoff that will focus on two female protagonists has found the first of its pair of leading ladies: Alexa Mansour has nabbed one of the plum parts, our sister site Variety reports.

The actress, a relative newcomer who has guest-starred on such series as Madam Secretary, How to Get Away With Murder and The Resident, will play a likable rebel whose sense of humor masks an inner sadness. And Mansour isn’t the only cast member who’s been signed to the AMC drama. Nicolas Cantu (who’s appeared on The Good Place) and Hal Cumpston (Bilched) will play, respectively, a karate kid who’s small for his age and a big-for-his-age loner who hates the fact that he scares his peers.

Co-created by Scott Gimple, the franchise’s chief content officer, and Matt Negrete, who’s spent the last five seasons as a Walking Dead writer/producer, the new offshoot will address what it’s like to be part of the first generation to come of age since walkers began roaming the earth. Production on the series’ 10-episode freshman season begins this summer; it’s intended to debut in 2020.

Japan: Is it safe to travel to the country after third earthquake in three weeks? https://briefnews.eu/japan-is-it-safe-to-travel-to-the-country-after-third-earthquake-in-three-weeks/ https://briefnews.eu/japan-is-it-safe-to-travel-to-the-country-after-third-earthquake-in-three-weeks/#respond Thu, 31 Jan 2019 04:41:16 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/japan-is-it-safe-to-travel-to-the-country-after-third-earthquake-in-three-weeks/

Earthquakes have plagued Japan through the start of 2019. The latest tremor struck on the island of Kyushu on January 26. Fortunately no casualties were reported but the natural disaster followed two similar events in the country in the space of weeks. Japan welcomes thousands of British holidaymakers every year, yet could their journeys be under threat?

What is the current situation in Japan?

On January 26, the Japanese island of Kyushu was been rocked by a 4.4 magnitude earthquake – barely three weeks after it was struck by another, similarly sized tremor which was rapidly followed by a larger one off its south east coast.

The Japanese Meteorological Agency (JMA) said the tremor had hit Kumamoto prefecture today at 2.16pm (5.16am GMT), but stressed there was no risk of a tsunami as a result of it.

The quake, which happened at a dept of just over six miles, registered a lower 5 on the Japanese earthquake scale, equivalent to 4.4 on the standard moment magnitude scale in the town of Nagomi, which replaced the Richter magnitude scale in the 1970s.

There were no immediate reports of any injuries as a result of the earthquake.

What has the UK Government said about travel to Japan?

The UK Government has not issued any advice suggesting holidaymakers should not visit Japan.

Yet they have flagged the threat of earthquake and warned travellers to be prepared.

They state: “There’s a continuous risk of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis throughout Japan.

“Latest warnings and advisories are published on the Japan Meteorological Agency website.

“As Japan is in a major earthquake zone you should familiarise yourself with safety procedures in the event of an earthquake or tsunami, and take note of instructions in hotel rooms, at train stations and on your local prefectural website.

“Information on earthquakes and any impact on towns and cities in Japan, including tsunami warnings, are published by the Japan Meteorological Agency.”

A total of 310,500 British nationals visited Japan in 2017.

When were the previous earthquakes in Japan?

On January 3, Nagomi was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5, with the JMA warning about the possibility of aftershocks over the next week.

Five days later, another quake measuring 6.3 on the scale struck at a depth of 10 miles north-northwest of Nishinoomote on the island of Tangegashima in Kagoshima Prefecture.

The quake happened at a depth of 24 miles and was centred 73 miles southeast of the city of Kagoshima in south of Kyushu.

Today Reveals Cohosts for Post-Megyn Kelly Third Hour — Who's Taking Over? https://briefnews.eu/today-reveals-cohosts-for-post-megyn-kelly-third-hour-whos-taking-over/ https://briefnews.eu/today-reveals-cohosts-for-post-megyn-kelly-third-hour-whos-taking-over/#respond Mon, 07 Jan 2019 16:36:26 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/today-reveals-cohosts-for-post-megyn-kelly-third-hour-whos-taking-over/

Today is calling on some familiar faces to permanently lead its in-limbo third hour.

Meteorologists Al Roker and Dylan Dreyer, along with journalists Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones, have officially been named cohosts of Today‘s 9 am hour, which was previously home to Megyn Kelly’s portion of the NBC morning show.

“Hope you don’t mind these faces!” Dreyer tweeted Monday, alongside a selfie with her three fellow anchors. “You’ll be seeing a lot of them at 9 am. Please join us!”

Following Kelly’s firing from Today in October — a result of her controversial comments about blackface — the third hour was temporarily co-hosted by Melvin, Roker and co-lead anchor Hoda Kotb, though Dreyer and Jones also made regular appearances as the year drew to a close. It was initially speculated that Today correspondent Jenna Bush Hager would become Kelly’s permanent replacement.

This 9 o’clock cohost reveal comes amid a time of transition for the morning show, whose fourth hour will bid adieu to Kathie Lee Gifford in April. NBC has yet to announce future plans for the 10 am hour, though NBC News president Noah Oppenheim said “our plans will, of course, continue to include Hoda.”

This Week In Trailers: Mega Time Squad, King of Thieves, 7 Days Out, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, Third Eye Spies https://briefnews.eu/this-week-in-trailers-mega-time-squad-king-of-thieves-7-days-out-tidying-up-with-marie-kondo-third-eye-spies/ https://briefnews.eu/this-week-in-trailers-mega-time-squad-king-of-thieves-7-days-out-tidying-up-with-marie-kondo-third-eye-spies/#respond Sun, 16 Dec 2018 14:27:35 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/this-week-in-trailers-mega-time-squad-king-of-thieves-7-days-out-tidying-up-with-marie-kondo-third-eye-spies/ Green Band Trailer

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: What better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising?

This week we make our best Michael Caine impression, do some light time traveling, clean out our closets, get a glimpse into what happens days before the zero hour occurs, and then debunk psychics and soothsayers.

Mega Time Squad

I would try and make sense out of director Tim van Dammen’s film, but it would probably sound silly if I did. The long and short of this thing is that it’s super weird and seriously high concept. However, what makes it such an unbelievable story is that it’s such a delight. I don’t get where things are going once we establish the initial reason we’re all gathered together, but that’s alright with me. Time travel, human cloning, poop jokes, it’s all here, and all I’m looking for is a good laugh.

King of Thieves

Director James Marsh, Academy Award-winning director of Man on Wire and BAFTA winner for The Theory of Everything, is going lighter with his latest. Packed with talent from the likes of Michael Caine, Jim Broadbent, and Ray Winstone I’m charmed by what is, at heart: a geezer heist flick with a twist. I like how this takes some turns here and there to make it a story worth watching.  There’s not a whole lot of polish on the trailer, but that’s okay when you consider how straight-forward the premise is.

Third Eye Spies

You can’t fault director Lance Mungia for making a documentary on something that is indeed without merit or has any grip on reality. ESP, telekinesis, any of that voodoo you used to read about as kids only to see how fake it was, is pretty astounding when you realize how legit interested the US and Soviet governments were in seeing if it was true. I see this documentary as something you would watch on a Tuesday night for a little bit of fun trivia about where our government was spending our tax dollars and maybe a few giggles. Honestly, this is only for the tinfoil hat wearing community.

7 Days Out

One week before a major event. The planning, the discussing, the logistics of pulling something off. It’s fascinating to rush towards the end and see how it all does, or does not, go off as planned. This trailer, which ties together nicely so many disparate narratives, contextualizes all these events in a way that is cohesive and stirring.

Tidying Up with Marie Kondo

I’ve often heard the words “so satisfying” to describe things on the Internet that seem to work well, and this is no exception. Specifically, it reminded me of what I read from Marie Kondo when talking about getting rid of the detritus in your life.

“If you’re having a hard time getting rid of something, thank the item for the role it has already played in your life,” Kondo advises, recommending you say something to the garment like “Thank you for giving me joy when I bought you” or “Thank you for teaching me what doesn’t suit me.” Then you’re free to “let it go.”

Somehow I’ve never forgotten this, and this trailer seems less Hoarders and more positive self-help. The trailer nicely weaves in positive messaging and, indeed, it feels like a program that wants to have a good influence. I am here for all of it.

Nota bene: If you have any suggestions of trailers for possible inclusion in this column, even have a trailer of your own to pitch, please let me know by sending me a note at Christopher_Stipp@yahoo.com or look me up via Twitter at @Stipp

Retaliation through demolition: Israel destroys Palestinian family home… for the third time (VIDEO) https://briefnews.eu/retaliation-through-demolition-israel-destroys-palestinian-family-home-for-the-third-time-video/ https://briefnews.eu/retaliation-through-demolition-israel-destroys-palestinian-family-home-for-the-third-time-video/#respond Sat, 15 Dec 2018 18:36:52 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/retaliation-through-demolition-israel-destroys-palestinian-family-home-for-the-third-time-video/

The Israeli army has razed the home of a Palestinian who has been jailed, charged with killing a soldier. It’s the third time the family’s home has been demolished and more of its members are in jail, on charges including murder.

Early on Saturday, a massive Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) detachment arrived at the El Amari refugee camp close to the Palestinian city of Ramallah. Troops secured the four-story house, belonging to the Abu Humaid family, evicting its residents and some activists, who tried to prevent the demolition.

Footage from the scene shows Israeli army bulldozers and military personnel at the camp. The house was destroyed in a controlled explosion after the site was secured.

The operation was mounted in retaliation for the killing of an IDF soldier during a raid on the refugee camp in May. Back then, 20-yo Staff Sgt. Ronen Lubarsky was hit by a large marble slab, hurled from a rooftop. He succumbed to his injuries two days later and a 32-year-old Palestinian, Islam Abu Humaid, was detained shortly afterwards. Abu Humaid stands accused of killing the soldier and attempting to obstruct justice by tampering with the crime scene.

The destruction of the house left the family unbroken and they vowed to rebuild it – again. The house had twice been razed by the Israeli military, during retaliation ops over the past three decades.

“All my sons have been either martyred or imprisoned, and that didn’t break me,” the family’s matriarch Latifa Abu Humaid said, adding that such actions of the “enemy” only make the “animosity” stronger.

Two of Abu Humaid’s other sons are in Israeli custody, charged with the killings of five Israelis, while two others stand accused of serious security offenses. Another sibling was killed by the Israeli military back in the early 1990s. The alleged killer of Lubarsky himself had been incarcerated by Israel for five years for “terrorist activities” committed on behalf of the Hamas Islamist group, according to local media.

Israeli authorities stand by the demolition of the family homes of “terrorists,” defending it as an effective deterrence measure. Many human rights groups, however, have condemned it as a form of collective punishment, while others have raised questions over its actual effectiveness in supposedly discouraging potential “terrorists” from partaking in illicit activities.

SpaceX

Sunday’s launch attempt of a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, with a primary launch window from 1:32pm ET (18:32 UTC) to 2pm ET (19:00 UTC), is significant for a number of reasons.

For one, this will be the company’s 19th launch of 2018, and if successful, it will break SpaceX’s record for most missions flown in a calendar year. With a handful of launches remaining on its manifest in December, SpaceX is on pace to fly as many as 22 rockets this year. This signifies that SpaceX has solved production and processing issues that prevented it from launching more than eight rockets a year prior to 2017 and that last year was not a fluke.

Creed 3: Will there be a third instalment? https://briefnews.eu/creed-3-will-there-be-a-third-instalment/ https://briefnews.eu/creed-3-will-there-be-a-third-instalment/#respond Fri, 30 Nov 2018 03:58:30 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/creed-3-will-there-be-a-third-instalment/

Creed is the spin-off to the Rocky movies which focuses on Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed, son of Apollo. Apollo is Rocky’s enemy turned friend who was killed in a boxing match in Rocky IV. The first film, Rocky and its five sequels centred on the boxing career of the eponymous Rocky Balboa played by Sylvester Stallone and has been one of the most successful movie franchises in modern box office history.

In Creed II Stallone plays an ageing Rocky who trains Adonis to fight Viktor Drago in his toughest match yet.

But Stallone has taken to social media to say Creed II will be the last time he plays Rocky.

The Hollywood actor writes: “I am reposting this because there was a technical difficulty.

“I just want to thank everyone around the whole wide world for taking the Rocky family into their hearts for over 40 years.

“It’s been my Ultimate privilege to have been able to create and play this meaningful character.

“Though it breaks my heart, Sadly all things must pass…and end.

“I love you Kind and generous people, and The most wonderful thing of all, is that ROCKY will never die because he lives on in you.”

However, despite Stallone not being on-board for any further Creed films, there is speculation there will be a third movie.

Steven Caple Jr directed the sequel, taking over the realm from Ryan Coogler who has shared his thoughts on where the next film could go and there is a chance that Adonis Creed doesn’t necessarily have to be the lead character.

He said during a recent interview: “That’s a good question. Who would he fight? What would take him there? Who’s in his corner?

“All these questions. I’m not sure. Is there room for Creed III? I think so, there’s definitely some hooks at the end of [Creed II] that can lead you to a Creed III.

“Would he be the lead in Creed III? Those are all questions to ask.”

One of the biggest uncertainties if there was a Creed III is whether Adonis Creed would return to the ring.

As he went through some gruelling rounds with Viktor Drago, seeing him return to a boxing career after Creed II would need some impressive stakes.

If he did make a comeback in the third film, it would undoubtedly put pressure on Adonis’ relationship with Bianca now that they’re engaged and new parents.

MGM has yet to give Creed III the green light, however.

Creed II was not revealed until January 2016 – two months after Creed was released in cinemas.

So the studio is most likely waiting to see how the sequel performs in the US and worldwide box office before making firm plans for Creed III.

Creed II is in cinemas now.
