In Thursday’s episode, Ochoa’s character was seen making a tearful goodbye phone call to Gary, then boarding a plane to Spain using the ticket Jon bought her before he died. Earlier in the episode, she’d come clean to Delilah & Co. about the secret she’d been keeping: Jon had taken out a secret life insurance policy — with the guys and Barbara Morgan, whoever she is, as beneficiaries — and Ash had been using that money to pay down Jon’s real estate debts.
Ashley’s exit sure made it seem like Ochoa, a series regular, was leaving the show. But that’s not the case, Nash told TVLine this week.
The showrunner confirmed that Ochoa definitely will be part of the show past Season 1. And when we pointed out that it seems like Jon’s assistant’s storyline has come to an end, he countered, “And yet she didn’t die.”
Nash continued: “Good or bad, our show is a soap. On some great soaps, things happen and people come back.” And given that the drama has a history of switcheroos — such as in the premiere, when Rome’s suicide attempt was interrupted by Jon’s actually going through with the act — “We sent [Ashley] away,” Nash said, “but maybe she comes back knowing a lot of Spanish.” (Fun fact: In real life, Ochoa is fluent in the language.)
“I think it’s a pretty safe bet to say that Ashley is not completely out of the picture,” Ochoa said. Still, don’t expect Ash to jet back to Boston anytime soon: “As for the rest of this season,” Ochoa added, “she’s not going to be in it.” —With reporting by Michael Ausiello and Matt Webb Mitovich

Stranger Things‘ return is still a year away, but star David Harbour has already let slip a main source of inspiration for Season 3.
In a new interview with our sister site Variety, the two-time Emmy nominee reveals that series creators Matt and Ross Duffer have partially modeled the next eight episodes after the 1985 action-comedy Fletch, starring Chevy Chase. “The Duffers are so specific each year with the movies… and Fletch is one movie we get to play around and have some fun with this season, which you wouldn’t expect from Stranger Things… and you certainly wouldn’t expect from a darker season,” Harbour says.
For those unfamiliar with the aforementioned film, Fletch revolves around an investigative reporter (Chase) who goes undercover for his next big story. While disguised as a homeless man, he’s approached by a wealthy suit who offers him a large sum of money to come to his home and kill him, all to avoid a terminal cancer diagnosis. When Fletch investigates, he discovers that the businessman is not in fact dying, and shenanigans ensue. (The film is currently available to stream on HBO Now.)
Word of the Fletch homage comes months after it was first announced that Jake Busey (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) would appear in Season 3 as Bruce, a journalist for the The Hawkins Post with questionable morals and a sick sense of humor. What’s more, Cary Elwes (Princess Bride) is set to play the “slick and sleazy” Mayor Kline.
Stranger Things‘ Summer 2019 return was recently confirmed by Netflix at the Television Critics’ Assoc. summer press tour. The third season delay had first been teased back in July, when the streaming service released a cheeky promo/local-style commercial for Hawkins’ new Starcourt Mall.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is heading to Calgary Friday but says anything to do with a new arena for the Flames franchise is not on the agenda.
He says he’ll meet with sponsors, some season ticket holders and team officials.
But he says he won’t be wading into the issue of a new rink because the Flames have decided there’s no point.
“I can only assist when there’s a will and an invitation,” Bettman said while speaking to the Chamber of Commerce in Edmonton on Thursday.
“I have been accused of all sorts of evil things south of here, so I am not even weighing in. I mean, suffice it to say the Flames have given up pursuing a new arena and that’s where things are.”
The Flames pulled out of talks with the City of Calgary last fall, saying negotiations were going nowhere on reaching a deal to build a new facility to replace the 34-year-old Scotiabank Saddledome.
Bettman has said previously that playing in the Saddledome threatens the team’s ability to compete, and the Flames say they’ll continue operations there for as long as they can remain viable and then look at options.
Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi has said the Flames’ proposal for a $ 500-million arena places a heavy tax burden on the city, but the Flames say the city’s plan would ultimately see the team foot the entire cost of construction.

Sarah Silverman is speaking out about the scandal surrounding her close friend Louis C.K.
Silverman addressed the swirl of news surrounding C.K. — the Louie star has admitted to masturbating in front of multiple women without their consent — in an emotional monologue on Thursday’s episode of her Hulu series I Love You America. In the clip, which you can watch above, a clearly choked-up Silverman struggles to reconcile the terrible stories we’re now hearing with the man she knows and loves.
After saying “I really, really, really don’t want to” comment on the C.K. situation, she remembers herself stating that “if it’s mentionable, it’s manageable,” and so she turns to “address the elephant masturbating in the room.” She calls C.K. “one of my best friends of over 25 years” before detailing his crimes: “He wielded his power with women in f–ked-up ways, sometimes to the point where they left comedy entirely.”
She could mention what a great father she knows C.K. to be, she says, “but that’s totally irrelevant, isn’t it?” She calls the whole situation “a real mindf–k… I love Louis, but Louis did these things. Both of those statements are true.” She keeps asking herself: “Can you love someone who did bad things?” And she admits she’s still struggling to answer that question: “I hope it’s OK if I am at once very angry for the women he wronged and the culture that enabled it… and also sad, because he’s my friend.”
Silverman strikes a hopeful note at the end, though, that all of this is a necessary reckoning for our society: “We need to be better. We will be better. I can’t f–king wait to be better.”

Thursday’s episode — appropriately entitled “Phil” — showed us Phil’s life apart from her daughter, playing cards with her friends and volunteering as a museum tour guide. But it also showed us the melancholy aspects of Phil’s life, as she got caught trying to lift an Egyptian ring from the museum’s collection and then intentionally stepped into a hole in the parking lot, taking a nasty spill and ending up in the hospital. (Sam considered putting her in a retirement home, but ultimately decided to ride it out with her mom living next door.)
In spite of the musical within the drama, Stranger Things casualty Shannon Purser doesn’t think of her upcoming NBC series Rise as the next Glee. Rather, “I like to think of it as kind of like a Friday Night Lights with music,” she told TVLine founder Michael Ausiello on the Emmy red carpet Sunday. “It’s not like Glee in the sense that people burst into song. [When they do], it’s all within the confines of the musical that they’re putting on in high school.”
Keeping busy with the show, which was developed by Jason Katims (Parenthood) and Jeffrey Seller (Hamilton), has kept the actress from dwelling too much on the fate of her beloved Stranger Things character. It also helps that “I’ve been told that there will be justice for Barb” in Season 2, she said. In the meantime, “I’m living the dream.”

SAN FRANCISCO — A bipartisan group of U.S. senators on Tuesday is introducing legislation to address vulnerabilities in computing devices embedded in everyday objects — known in the tech industry as the “internet of things” — which experts have long warned poses a threat to global cybersecurity and which has made several recent hacking events all too easy.
Reports of thieves using laptops to steal cars have persisted for years, and white-hat research into hacking cars goes back at least to a 2010 study at the University of Washington. The biggest real-world example surfaced last year when a pair of hackers in Houston were accused of using FCA software on a laptop to steal vehicles, mostly Jeeps, that were spirited away across the Mexican border. Possibly 100 vehicles were stolen this way.
Nissan had to suspend its Leaf smartphone app for a time, as did GM with its OnStar app, which got some notoriety when the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) used the app to hack a Chevy Impala for 60 MInutes.
In 2015, cybersecurity researchers Chris Valasek and Charlie Miller accessed critical vehicle controls on a 2014 Jeep Cherokee via the infotainment system. This allowed the pair, without physical access to the vehicle, to remotely disable the brakes, turn the radio volume up, engage the windshield wipers, and tamper with the transmission, measure its speed and track its location. The hack prompted Fiat Chrysler to recall 1.4 million vehicles.
Security researchers say the ballooning array of online devices including vehicles, household appliances, and medical equipment are not adequately protected from hackers. A 2016 cyberattack was facilitated when hackers conscripted the “internet of things” into a “zombie army” of devices that flooded servers with web traffic in what’s known as a “distributed denial of service.”
The new bill would require vendors who provide internet-connected equipment to the U.S. government to ensure their products are patchable and conform to industry security standards. It would also prohibit vendors from supplying devices that have unchangeable passwords or possess known security vulnerabilities.
Republicans Cory Gardner and Steve Daines and Democrats Mark Warner and Ron Wyden are sponsoring the legislation, which was drafted with input from technology experts at the Atlantic Council and Harvard University. A Senate aide who helped write the bill said that companion legislation in the House was expected soon.
“We’re trying to take the lightest touch possible,” Warner said. He added that the legislation was intended to remedy an “obvious market failure” that has left device manufacturers with little incentive to build with security in mind.
The legislation would allow federal agencies to ask the U.S. Office of Management and Budget for permission to buy some non-compliant devices if other controls, such as network segmentation, are in place.
It would also expand legal protections for cyber researchers working in “good faith” to hack equipment to find vulnerabilities so manufacturers can patch previously unknown flaws.
Between 20 billion and 30 billion devices are expected to be connected to the internet by 2020, researchers estimate, with a large percentage of them insecure.
Though security for the internet of things has been a known problem for years, some manufacturers say they are not well equipped to produce cyber secure devices.
Hundreds of thousands of insecure webcams, digital records and other everyday devices were hijacked last October to support a major attack on internet infrastructure that temporarily knocked some web services offline, including Twitter, PayPal and Spotify.
The new legislation includes “reasonable security recommendations” that would be important to improve protection of federal government networks, said Ray O’Farrell, chief technology officer at cloud computing firm VMware.

We didn’t even have to say so much as “trick or… ,” and still, we got an early Halloween treat at San Diego Comic-Con Saturday: a brand-spanking-new trailer for Season 2 of Stranger Things.
As we’d been forewarned about the Netflix hit’s fresh episodes (dropping Friday, Oct. 27), the clip confirms what Noah Schnapp (Will) called the “darker and more eerie” tone of the series’ sophomore season. Peppered with totally excellent ’80s nods (Dragon’s Lair!), the video also gives us our first glimpse of this season’s ginomrous, omnipedal threat in action and hints at how Eleven will return to the fold.
Per the show’s official synopsis, Season 2 will find the residents of 1984 Hawkins contending with something far scarier than leg warmers and Kajagoogoo — “a bigger, [more] sinister entity” than even the demagorgon. New additions to the cast include Paul Reiser (Mad About You), Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings) and Will Chase (Nashville) as the patriarch of the new family in town.
Press PLAY on the video above to check out the trailer, then hit the comments. On a scale of 1 (I’m in no hurry) to 10 (Must. Watch. Now!), how eager are you to binge Season 2?

Alex, who was married to the football star for nearly a decade, was on today’s edition of This Morning to speak about the supernatural goings-on in her home.
Ever since George died 12 years ago, the 45-year-old model and author said she had felt his presence in her life.
She said that lights had been switched on and off in her house, while furniture had been moved and items went missing then turned up later on.
The star from Leicestershire told This Morning hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes: “I do believe it. I wouldn’t say I was a skeptic but I don’t think I thought about it one way or the other.”
She said it was “up to everyone else to believe” and admitted that she only decided to speak up about it now after it came out in the papers.
Alex only started to think she could be getting visits from George, who died in 2005, after she was told by American medium Michael Codori that the Manchester United star loved her too much to leave.
“He was there and he did a reading for me because there have been quite a few things that have been happening to me. I have moved three times and things keep happening to me,” she explained.
The writer, who was married to George between 1995 and 2004, said weird things started to happen shortly after his passing.
“In the morning I went to go, I walked past the hotel bathroom and every single tap and shower turned on,” she said.
Alex added: “It’s just strange little things. I’ll have a top and it’s gone. I’ll take everything and I put it back and a week later it will turn up.”
She also mentioned that she had a heavy cupboard that needed three removal men to shift but even that had mysteriously changed position.
“It’s moved out and you can tell where the carpet marks are,” she said.
Alex went on to say: “But it’s not only me, my friends have lost phone chargers in my house. I had a belt and it went missing. I hoover the spare room often but I couldn’t find it. Then a year later it was on the floor. I don’t know what it is.”
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10.30am.
