That’s according to NFL expert Neil Reynolds, who reckons the Houston Texans superstar needs be careful as the season progresses.

The likeable defensive end has been a standout performer since being drafted in 2011.

However, injuries have hampered his career in recent years.

Watt managed just five appearances last term and three the season before that.

“I spoke to Ross Tucker who comes on our Inside The Huddle podcast sometimes,” said Reynolds.

“He was saying once you have a back injury you’re never quite the same – whether you think you are or not.

“JJ Watt also trains like a beast and wants to get back really quickly.

“There’s always that concern but I think everyone is just pleased to see him back,

“I’m sure if we spoke to him he’d tell us he’ll be a different player in November than he is now.”

Watt admitted last month that he was concerned about making his eagerly anticipated return.

“I think it’s nice to know that you can go out there and play 70 plays on turf,” he said following the Texans 27-20 defeat to the New England Patriots.

“You just don’t know how it’s going to hold up for a whole game.”

Reynolds says the 29-year-old is finally getting back to his best though.

“He’s getting that way,” explained the Sky Sports pundit.

“Playing against the New York Giants helped because they haven’t got much of and offensive line, but he certainly looks dominant.

“That is really impressive and pleasing because I was questioning if we’d seen the best and the last of JJ Watt.

“We haven’t and that’s really good because he’s such a hard worker.

“He’s a generational player – one of the best to ever play the game.

“It would have been a shame to see the injuries knock the stuffing out of him.

“He is on his way back and that’s good for the NFL.”

The Texans lock horns with the Dallas Cowboys later night.

  • The Indianapolis Colts went for it on 4th down in a tied overtime game from their own side of the field and failed to convert.
  • The Texans got the ball from the Colts’ 43, completed a 24-yard pass, then kicked the game-winning field goal.
  • While many in the NFL world questioned the decision, Colts head coach Frank Reich said the team was not going to tie and he would go for it every time.

A questionable decision on 4th down in overtime cost the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, as they lost, 37-34, to the Houston Texans.

After trading field goals in overtime, Andrew Luck got the ball with 1:50 left to play and got the Colts up to their 43-yard line. Facing 4th-and-4 with 27 seconds left, the Colts decided to go for it rather than punting the ball. That turned out to be a bad decision.

US Olympic champion gymnast Simone Biles has made her debut as a National Football League (NFL) cheerleader, turning out to cheer on her hometown team the Houston Texans during Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Team USA’s most decorated gymnast was invited by the Texans to perform as the first-ever honorary member of the cheerleading squad after Biles expressed her wish to become an NFL cheerleader on her Twitter account.

The 20-year-old Houston native was formally introduced to the squad on Friday, when her fellow cheerleaders gave her a pair of their famous red boots, which she donned for the occasion.

Biles attended two practice sessions with the cheerleading team before showing off her skills on the field at NRG Stadium. She said that her fellow Texans cheerleaders had helped her get ready for her first appearance.

“They’ve been so helpful in and out of practice, sending me videos and all that and even just today, they’re like, ‘Let’s go over this,’” Biles said. “So, they’re so helpful in telling me how the crowd’s going to react and how loud it’s going to be so to not pay attention because you can get distracted.”

The four-time Olympic gold medalist and multiple world champion said she enjoyed the experience of waving the red pom-poms on the sideline. “I had such an amazing experience cheering at the Texans Game. Definitely a memory to last forever!” Biles wrote on her Instagram page.

The gymnast, who has recently resumed her full-time training after a year layoff, is eyeing a return to world-class competition next year.

At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the tumbling powerhouse, who has been unofficially crowned “the Michael Phelps of gymnastics”, completed her Olympic run with five medals.

  • Many Houston Texans players knelt on Sunday after team owner Bob McNair made a controversial comment over national anthem protests.
  • McNair referred to the need to stop anthem protests as “inmates running the system.”
  • McNair faced considerable backlash after making the comment, for which he apologized.

A majority of Houston Texans players knelt during the national anthem on Sunday to protest controversial comments made by team owner Bob McNair.

In an ESPN report on NFL meetings about national anthem protests, it was revealed that McNair, a donor to US President Donald Trump, argued that the league must stop the protests.

In arguing for the league to do something, McNair said they can’t have “inmates running the prison.”

On Friday, several Texans players reportedly walked out of practice, but later returned following the comments. It was reported that team was planning on making a gesture before the Week 8 game against the Seattle Seahawks in response to the comments.

While some players stood for the anthem by the bench, many knelt along the sideline.

On Friday, McNair released a statement apologizing for his use of the expression. He also reportedly apologized during the meeting in which the comment was made.

McNair released a second statement, arguing that he was referring to the NFL league office, not the players when he made the comment.

All but 10 members of the Houston Texans took a knee during the national anthem Sunday, as the vast majority of the team protested the owner’s “inmates running the prison” comment.

The Texans had indicated there would be some type of protest following the comments by owner Bob McNair.

McNair issued two apologies attempting to explain his comments after a story in ESPN The Magazine revealed that he said “we can’t have the inmates running the prison” during a meeting of NFL owners about players protests.

The entire team took the field about 10 minutes before kickoff. When the anthem started the majority of the active roster (approximately 43 players) took a knee.

It appeared that all of the black players on Houston’s roster took a knee, while at least one white player — Ben Heeney — also knelt.

The players that remained standing were: LB Brian Peters, P Shane Lechler, long snapper Jon Weeks, FB Jay Prosch, T Breno Giacomini, C Nick Martin, C Greg Mancz, TE Ryan Griffin, QB Tom Savage G and G Xavier Su’a-Filo, who is of Samoan decent.

The majority of Seattle’s defensive line continued to sit as it has for most of the season. Before Sunday, very few Texans had been protesting other than on Sept. 24, when 200 players around the league protested following President Donald Trump’s criticism.

  • During an NFL owners meeting, Houston Texans owner Bob McNair said the league cannot allow “inmates running the prison” in regard to players’ national anthem protests.
  • According to a report, some owners were “stunned” by the statement.
  • McNair later apologized to NFL executive Troy Vincent, who felt offended by the statement, and issued a public apology on Friday.

Houston Texans owner Bob McNair used a poor choice of words at a recent NFL owners that now has him facing criticism.

According to ESPN’s Don Van Natta Jr. and Seth Wickersham, NFL owners recently met to discuss how to move on from national anthem protests.

After Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones gave a passionate speech about the need to make players stand for the national anthem, McNair said, “We can’t have the inmates running the prison.”

According to ESPN, the statement “stunned” some people in the room.

Though owners continued arguing, later on, NFL executive Troy Vincent, a former player, reportedly called McNair’s statement offensive. According to the report, McNair later took Vincent aside and apologized, saying he felt “terrible” for the comment and only meant to use a popular idiom, not reflect players as “inmates.”

McNair also apologized through the Texans on Friday:

Nonetheless, the comment has drawn criticism throughout the sports world.

McNair, a multimillion dollar Trump donor, was reportedly one of the owners who, alongside Jones, was in favor of a mandate to make players stand. However, according to ESPN, owners could not come to an agreement on how to proceed over the anthem protests, with only nine owners voting in favor of a hardline stance.

Videos of people surviving in the Hurricane Harvey-ravaged coast of Texas have flooded the internet, as locals share their experience of one of the worst natural disasters to hit the US in over a decade.

A tornado has reportedly damaged a gas station in Houston amid severe storms and flash floods, a local woman posted on Twitter. Hours before the reported incident, she said she “should have listened [and] evacuated.”

On a highway in Rosenberg, 25 miles (40km) southwest of Houston, a large sinkhole has opened up, leading a road bridge to collapse. Pieces of highway asphalt could be seen hanging from the edge of what used to be a road, with water filling the sinkhole.

Due to the hurricane, which is already being compared to the Hurricane Katrina disaster of 2005, 18 counties in Texas have been declared federal disaster zones. Nearly 7 million people live in the worst affected areas.

More than 30 inches (76cm) of rain have fallen on parts of Houston, the most populous city in the state, in the last 48 hours, the National Weather Service reported, adding that more rainfall was on the way.

Among the many buildings flooded was headquarters of a local TV channel, KHOU 11 News, with its employees forced to evacuate the station.

National Guard troops have been deployed in response to the disaster. Hundreds of vessels, some of which were sent from Florida and Louisiana, have been taking part in rescue operations, and authorities have also asked people who own a boat or a high-water vehicle to help in the efforts.

“We can’t wait for assets to come from outside,” Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, who oversees government operations in the area, has said.

People on Twitter have been praising the Good Samaritans who are already working to save lives in the area.

However, despite the many devastating consequences of the hurricane, people have also been sharing some light-hearted accounts of the storm to keep the spirits up. Young woman Viviana Saldaña tweeted that her family doesn’t need to “go out looking for food when the food comes to our living room.”

She posted videos of her father catching fish right inside of their house. “We’re all safe and OK no one got electrocuted,” she commented.

The Browns pulled off their second big trade with the Texans in 2 months, and it may have perfectly set them up for the future https://briefnews.eu/the-browns-pulled-off-their-second-big-trade-with-the-texans-in-2-months-and-it-may-have-perfectly-set-them-up-for-the-future/ https://briefnews.eu/the-browns-pulled-off-their-second-big-trade-with-the-texans-in-2-months-and-it-may-have-perfectly-set-them-up-for-the-future/#respond Fri, 28 Apr 2017 02:50:19 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-browns-pulled-off-their-second-big-trade-with-the-texans-in-2-months-and-it-may-have-perfectly-set-them-up-for-the-future/ sashi brownRon Schwane/AP

For the second time in two months, the Cleveland Browns made a trade with the Houston Texans that netted them assets in return.

On Thursday, moments before using their second pick of the first round of the NFL Draft, the Browns dealt their No. 12 pick to the Texans for Houston’s 25th overall pick and a 2018 first-round pick. The Texans used the 12th pick to draft Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson.

This comes after the Texans traded Brock Osweiler to the Browns in March in a salary dump, throwing in a 2017 sixth-round pick and 2018 second-round pick for the Browns’ 2017 fourth-round pick.

The draft-day trade may not be too big of a price for the Texans, especially if Watson proves to be a solid starter. And for the Browns, despite still not finding a solution at quarterback (Osweiler does not appear to be it), they may have set themselves up perfectly for the future.

During the draft on Thursday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Browns were trying to trade for Kirk Cousins. This comes after months of speculation that the Browns may try to land the Patriots’ Jimmy Garoppolo in a trade.

As a result of their wheeling-and-dealing over the past two years, the Browns now have 12 picks in the 2018 draft, including five in the first two rounds.

There’s no guarantee the Browns will use any of those picks in a trade. But if they want to acquire a talented, established quarterback, rather than drafting one in a class most agreed was not that great, then they have the means to do so.

Of course, for a team with needs at almost every position, perhaps it’s best to stockpile those picks and acquire young, cheap talent to develop. However, quarterback remains the position that’s completely alluded the Browns in recent years.

Cleveland can now afford to trade for a proven starting quarterback — and still have pieces to build through the draft.

(Mic) — President Donald Trump will have to mess with Texas if he wants to build his “big, beautiful” wall.

According to a new poll from the nonpartisan Texas Lyceum, residents of the Lone Star State overwhelmingly oppose Trump’s planned border wall and support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.

Of 1,000 Texans surveyed, 90% support a path to citizenship, while 61% oppose the proposed wall and 58% disapprove of the way the president has handled immigration overall.

While Texas — which comprises 1,254 miles of the country’s 1,900 mile border with Mexico — is traditionally deeply conservative, the survey results suggest Republicans and Democrats could find common ground on immigration if they can move past the politics.

“What you see in immigration reform is that it’s very similar to the Affordable Care Act,” Texas Lyceum research director Joshua Blank said. “All the partisan predisposition that goes with the health care law comes into play. Republicans are against it and Democrats are for it. But when you look at the actual provisions of what it may entail, Republicans are generally pretty favorable.”

During his presidential campaign, Trump promised to crack down on immigration and build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border — and he’s spent his first months in office trying to follow through on those promises.

While courts have blocked Trump’s attempts to freeze immigration from several majority-Muslim nations, Trump has unveiled an updated immigration policy calling for tightened enforcement and has started planning his costly wall on the southern border.

But Tuesday’s poll suggests Trump’s hardline immigration policies are out of step with Texans — and national polls don’t help Trump’s case much, either. A McClatchy-Marist poll conducted in February found that 80% of Americans want undocumented immigrants to have a path to citizenship, and a January Pew poll showed that less than half of Americans support Trump’s wall.
