And they left much to the imagination ahead of the drama’s release this November. “The Doctor knows that River Song is a part of his future. A maddening, intriguing, but inevitable part,” their website reads. “Their lives are becoming inextricably intertwined, but in these early days – for the Doctor at least – they must navigate their relationship without too many spoilers. “Whatever her past, and the Doctor’s future, holds, River will make sure that he has fun untangling the mystery…” The first instalment is called Expiry Dating by James Goss, and will see the Doctor with a big decision to make.
Amazon on Wednesday released the first full-length trailer for its anticipated limited series Good Omens, which is set to bow with all six episodes on Friday, May 31.
Good Omens takes place in 2018, when the Apocalypse is near and Final Judgment is set to descend upon humanity. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, and tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. However, Aziraphale (played by Masters of Sex‘s Michael Sheen), a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley, a fast-living demon (Doctor Who‘s David Tennant) — both of whom have lived amongst Earth’s mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle — are not actually looking forward to the coming war.
In the above trailer, Crowley warns Aziraphale that armageddon is just days away, and they’ll have to work together to track down the Antichrist, an 11-year-old boy unaware that he is meant to bring upon the end of days.
As previously reported, Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) will lend his voice to the show’s animated Satan. Meanwhile, Brian Cox (Succession) will serve as the voice of Death.
Rounding out the impressive cast are Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation), Frances McDormand (Fargo), Adria Arjona (Emerald City), Michael McKean (Better Call Saul), Nina Sosanya (Love Actually) and Ned Dennehy (Peaky Blinders).
Press PLAY on the trailer above, then hit the comments and tell us if you plan to add Good Omens to your Prime Video queue.

The 46-year-old former Doctor Who star appeared at a loss for what to say when the comedian quizzed him about his Time Lord successors on the festive special.
Playing a game of quick-fire questions with the actor, Miranda presented him with an impossible decision as she asked: “Snog, marry, kill: Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, Jodie Whittaker?”
The studio audience let out an audible gasp as David’s face fell.
“Don’t do that to me, Miranda,” he begged quietly, before she replied: “I just have, David.”
“I would marry all three of them,” he said tactfully as the audience erupted into laughter.
Doctor Who fans went into meltdown earlier this week when the long-awaited Christmas special finally aired.
The tense instalment, Twice Upon A Time, saw Peter’s Doctor regenerate into the 13th Doctor (played by Jodie).
The first female Time Lord in the history of the popular BBC sci-fi series made a dramatic entrance following her predecessor’s emotional goodbye, with the TARDIS appearing to malfunction within seconds of her regeneration.
Whovians will have to wait until the beginning of the new series to find out how she manages to fix the disaster after she was seen tumbling out of the TARDIS door and free-falling through space at the end of the episode.
Doctor Who is expected to return to BBC One in 2018.
Monday has arrived with some good omens, indeed.
Neil Gaiman, who will be writing and running the miniseries adaptation of his and Terry Pratchett‘s 1990 novel Good Omens, released the first look at stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen in costume as the demon Crowley and angel Aziraphale, respectively. Three words: Blonde. Michael. Sheen.
It was an inspired piece of casting for the Amazon and BBC miniseries to bring on Tennant as the devil-may-care (pun intended) Crowley and Sheen as his fussy, uptight foil.
Now with principal photography beginning in London for the miniseries, The Good Omens first looks shows the two actors already inhabiting their roles, with Tennant striking a pose beneath his dyed red locks and rocker-style suit and Sheen looking prim, with his bleach-blonde hair perfectly matching the color of his tan suit.
They are amazing. This is them in the opening scenes, 11 years ago, in St James's Park. David and Michael, demon & angel. #GoodOmens pic.twitter.com/ceK4XYY881
— Neil Gaiman (@neilhimself) September 18, 2017
Gaiman’s caption refers to the beginning of the book, which takes place in a flashback 11 years before the Apocalypse, when the longtime enemies-turned-unlikely-allies strike a deal to avert the end of the world. It’s not as grim as the situation appears, however — Good Omens is more offbeat fantasy-comedy than bleak apocalypse story. Described as a part fantasy-drama, part horror-comedy series, Good Omens takes place in 2018 “when the Apocalypse is near and Final Judgment is set to descend upon humanity,” according to Deadline. Unfortunately, someone has misplaced the Antichrist, prompting Crowley and Aziraphale to join a race to find him and stop the end of the world.
Gaiman tweeted the picture from the London set and said Monday:
“People have fallen in love with an angel and a demon in a book by Terry Pratchett and me, and they have been excited and nervous to see how they would appear on screen — and I was probably the most nervous and excited of all… Michael Sheen is the best and finest of bookseller angels, David Tennant the coolest and most delightful of demons. Together they are one hell of a double act (or do I mean one made in Heaven?)”
Good Omens will be Gaiman’s second time acting as a showrunner for a series, creating Neverwhere for BBC in 1996, which he later adapted into a book. The Hugo Award-winning writer has frequently written for television series like Doctor Who, and Babylon 5, but this will be his first time spearheading an adaptation of one of his works. More recently, Bryan Fuller‘s TV adaptation of American Gods has made waves over at Starz.
Gaiman initially refused to adapt Good Omens himself, stating that he and co-writer Terry Pratchett had agreed to adapt it together. But when Pratchett passed away in March 2015, Gaiman received a post-humous letter from his co-writer giving Gaiman his blessing to adapt Good Omens and requesting that Gaiman write the adaptation himself. Soon, Amazon announced Gaiman was working on a miniseries adaptation earlier this year, and the production has moved quickly from the page to the set. It’s a happy ending for a project that had long languished in development hell after Terry Gilliam‘s planned film adaptation of Good Omens starring Robin Williams and Johnny Depp fell through in 2002.
Good Omens will be directed and executive produced by Emmy winner Douglas Mackinnon, known for Sherlock and Outlander. The miniseries also stars Jack Whitehall, Michael McKean, Miranda Richardson, Adria Arjona, Nina Sosanya, Ned Dennehy, and Ariyon Bakare.
Shooting will continue for six months in London, Oxfordshire and South Africa. The series is aiming for a 2019 premiere.

The Apocalypse is looking pretty good right now.
Michael Sheen and David Tennant have been cast in the Amazon TV series Good Omens, the adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s whimsical, and very British, apocalyptic comedy. It’s some inspired casting that bodes well for the adaptation of another Gaiman work, who is on a roll right now after American Gods. A good omen for the show, you might say.
Sheen and Tennant have been cast in the lead roles of the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley, respectively, according to Variety.
The pair’s longtime enmity has turned into begrudging friendship after centuries of coexisting, and when the two of them are faced with the impending Apocalypse, they set off to stop it. However, despite their foolproof plan to trick their respective bosses, they lose track of the Antichrist. And thus begins the apocalyptic comedy of errors.
The adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett‘s 1990 novel is being produced by Amazon as a six-hour miniseries. The show is set in 2018 as the world is faced with the final judgment.
While Amazon didn’t comment on the casting, Sheen confirmed it, saying in a statement to Variety:
“I first read ‘Good Omens’ as a teenager and it’s been one of my favourite stories ever since. To be part of the team entrusted with bringing it alive on screen is a bit of a dream come true to be honest. To work alongside Neil, who I think is one of the greatest storytellers of all time, is incredibly exciting. And, just like the rest of the world, I’m a huge fan of David’s so I relish trying to save it with him.”
Good Omens is a hilarious and subversive take on the Apocalypse, with an uptight angel and sardonic demon leading the charge in a story about fate and humanity. It’s not all as serious as it sounds, taking an offbeat approach to a story that’s often been told in a grim, horrific fashion. It’s delightfully British as well, with eccentric characters populating the pages of the book, and likely the series too.
I’m pretty excited for this casting news, which is absolutely in line with how I imagined the characters when reading the book. Sheen as the “fussy” angel is a perfect fit, having played many pseudo-intellectual and straight-laced Brits over the years, while Tennant has been stretching his villainous muscles in roles like Kilgrave in Jessica Jones. But Crowley will likely be a riff off his charismatic rock-star-lite character in Fright Night, upping the sleaze and camp.
Good Omens was Gaiman’s first novel, written in collaboration with Pratchett, who died in 2015. Terry Gilliam was once attached to direct a film adaptation of Good Omens, but that fell through. Gaiman will be involved in writing for the Good Omens miniseries, taking a creative role in the show like he has with Starz’s American Gods run by Bryan Fuller. Gaiman is starting to take over TV, with a Sandman series also waiting in the wings. The Fox show Lucifer is also inspired by the character in Gaiman’s Sandman series, who received his own comic book spin-off back in the day.
Good Omens is co-produced by BBC Studios with Narrativia, the production company of Pratchett’s daughter Rhianna, and the Blank Corporation. The series is in association with BBC Worldwide for Amazon Prime Video and the BBC.

THE SHOW | Broadchurch
THE EPISODE | “Episode 7” (Aug. 9, 2017)
THE PERFORMANCE | Remind us never to get on Alec Hardy’s bad side.
In Season 3’s penultimate hour, Tennant gave us our best sense yet of how the accumulated atrocities of the Axehampton rape case have weighed on the DI, resulting in an intolerance for dawdling depositions and lying louses. Take his second interview of Ed, whom he curtly counsels to “lay off the smart-ass replies,” or his disgusted disbelief when Ian cops to spying on his victimized wife. There was also Hardy and Miller’s confrontation of Cath’s husband about a curiously timed purchase of rubbers (“When did you use the condoms, Jim?”). In those grillings, Tennant made clear that the time is well past now to root out the serial rapist who most recently attacked Trish Winterman.
But it was Hardy in his duty as father that fueled Tennant’s most intense scene of the hour, when he impulsively (and quite publicly) confronted the lads who’ve been sexually harassing his daughter Daisy.
“You boys, you wee babies… you hurt my girl,” he started in. “I deal with murderers, brutal thugs and sex offenders, and I win. I get the better of ’em. So don’t for a second imagine I will break a sweat getting you in line.”
Tennant’s intensity (as well as the texture of his Scottish accent) from there gloriously spiked, as Hardy put the little peckers on notice. “If you even talk about my daughter ever again, let alone do anything to make her unhappy, I will find you and I will cut your tiny little c-cks off,” he warned. When one brat questioned the lawman’s threatening stance, Hardy spat back, “I’m a father, and I will do whatever’s necessary to protect my daughter.” And you bloody believed him.
HONORABLE MENTION | We hereby nominate Alyssa Milano for Queen of Camp. In Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, she rocked The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, playing both nanny Renata’s (fake) sweetness and (real) evil with the kind of “commitment” rarely seen outside of a mental institution. Especially in “King of Camp,” the actress slayed us, her doe eyes widening like a Disney heroine’s as Renata explained away an overheard conversation about when to “kill the baby,” then demonstrated a cake-cutting technique that hilariously resembled a throat-slitting. And, naturally, she nailed the pièce de résistance: the moment in which Renata gleefully revealed to McKinley that she was, just as he suspected, a “blood-thirsty, murderous, bitch-ass psycho.” Crazy good stuff.
HONORABLE MENTION | We’ve got to give Power‘s Dre credit: Who would’ve guessed a few seasons ago that Ghost’s seemingly chill right-hand man was such a power-hungry backstabber? Portrayer Rotimi deserves all the credit for selling the quiet, observant Dre’s metamorphosis into a lying, twisting, disloyal hustler bent on building himself into a giant. Rotimi’s been laying the groundwork all season, making Dre bolder and harder as the character plays Tommy and Kanan off each other. But in Sunday’s episode, when Dre didn’t even blink while lying to his boss about Kanan being alive, then led Tommy straight to the scene of a murder Dre orchestrated (!) but pretended to have just stumbled upon, we marveled again at how subtle and consistent Rotimi has been in changing his character by grades, making his increased desire for status all the more believable (and hella scary).
HONORABLE MENTION
| We had a sense that The Night Shift‘s special episode written, directed and in part acted by military veterans would offer some moving performances, and Wonder Years alum Dan Lauria‘s rose to the top. Guest-starring as Doug Stratton, a Marine Corps vet convinced that his interminable depression is the result of long-embedded shrapnel, Lauria — especially during a mid-CAT scan breakdown — kept us guessing as to whether his character had been driven beyond sanity. But Lauria most tugged at heartstrings when Doug began to find a clarity, his face (and deep-seated guilt) lightening up, after Paul, Shannon and Scott arranged for other POWs to testify to the important role he played in their survival.

The Scottish actor – who served as the Tenth Doctor from 2005 to 2010 – has admitted he thought the casting of the 35-year-old was “brilliant”.
Discussing his former Broadchurch colleague on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, David revealed the Doctor can be either gender.
“Sure, Jodie is from a different gender than anyone who’s gone before, but that will be irrelevant almost immediately when she takes the part. The Doctor can be whatever he needs to be,” the star explained.
He continued: ”It’s about finding the right performer at the right time, and that’s Jodie without a doubt.”
The 46-year-old also addressed the backlash Jodie has received from fans disappointed by her casting and admitted the strong reactions happen every time there is a new Doctor.
David said: ”Whenever the Doctor changes, there’s a backlash because that’s a character people love. So people get very affectionate about the Doctor they knew.”
Speaking about the criticism he received when viewers found out he was cast for the coveted role, the actor joked: “They were like, ‘Who’s the weaselly-looking guy? Who’s this? I like the last guy. This is not gonna work for me. This show is dead to me. I resign from the internet’. Send!
“There was a lot of that. And that happens every time and that’s because it’s a show that has a lot of enthusiastic followers.”
Doctor Who fans will get their first glimpse of Jodie in her new role when she takes over from current Time Lord Peter Capaldi this Christmas.
However, viewers will have to wait much longer to see her fully take over the reigns as the show’s bosses hinted series 11 won’t be broadcast until late 2018.
Doctor Who returns to BBC One on Christmas Day.
Tennant, who served as the Tenth Doctor from 2005-2010, paid a visit to The Late Show on Wednesday, where he was pressed by Stephen Colbert on the supposedly controversial hire. Having worked with Whittaker for three seasons on the acclaimed BBC crime drama Broadchurch, Tennant said he was “delighted” by the news, and that all the current backlash is cyclical.
“Whenever the Doctor changes, there’s a backlash because that’s a character people love,” Tennant explained. “People get very affectionate about the Doctor they knew.” Case in point? The reaction his own, “weaselly” casting received when he was chosen to succeed Christopher Eccleston’s Nine. (Tennant’s imitation of incensed Internetters is not to be missed!)
“You know, sure, Jodie is from a different gender than anyone who has gone before, but that will be irrelevant almost immediately once she takes the part,” he said. “It’s about finding the right performer at the right time, and that’s Jodie, without a doubt.”

Scottish star David, 46, will be reprising his role as the 10th Time Lord, while Billie, 34, will be back again as fan favourite and companion Rose Tyler.
The pair, who were last seen together in the BBC TV show’s 50th anniversary special The Day of the Doctor, will be back together again for three new adventures.
However, the reunion will be for a series of new Big Finish audio productions which will mark Billie’s debut for the company.
The three stories will be part of the Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor Adventures – Volume 2 and each will be an hour-long each.
Rose and the Doctor will take on an alien invasion in the Attack of the Zaross and will also see Camille Coduri guest stars as Jackie Tyler, who was in the original BBC series.
While the second – Sword of the Chevalier – will see the duo in the year 1791 where they encounter Chevalier D’Eon, an enigmatic ex-spy who has lived his life as a woman.
Working with Chevalier, they must together tackle some evil aliens who have come to Earth to abduct humans.
Finally, Cold Vengeance will see the pair take on the Ice Warriors after the TARDIS arrives on Coldstar, a vast frozen food asteroid in deep space.
“Getting David and Billie back together was definitely on my bucket list – two wonderful actors who created an era of Doctor Who which is so fondly remembered and brought a different aspect of the relationship between the Doctor and his companion to the fore – love, both platonic and unrequited.
“It’s great to have the Tenth Doctor and Rose back again!” said executive producer Jason Haigh-Ellery.
David played the Doctor on screen between December 2005 until December 2009, before regenerating into Matt Smith’s 11th incarnation.
The Broadchurch star has continued to portray his Time Lord for Big Finish in a number of audio recordings, including a series of stories with Catherine Tate who played assistant Donna Noble.
Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor Adventures – Volume 2 will be released in November 2017.
The 65-year-old former mortuary porter opened up about his regeneration scene on arguably the biggest sci-fi series on television, describing how it was “the toughest thing to take”.
Davison also believed that he was never the right casting for the show, having grown up watching much older actors play the title role, and that pressures from BBC bosses and unions made it an incredibly difficult job to complete.
Speaking to press including Express.co.uk at An Evening with the Fifth Doctor, Davison said: “I’d got used to William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton. I think for the duration of the series I felt as if I wasn’t quite the right casting. Oddly, from where we stand today with younger Doctors since the series came back, I seem to fit in much more than I did at the time. In fact it seems as if I almost started the trend.
“I did my three years on Doctor Who. It was enormous fun. It was hard work. It was made in a friendly spirit of chaos because at the time, the unions were very strong at the television centre and there was always some dispute going on.
“The lights or the VT machines would be turned off at 10pm, and Doctor Who, even though it was a science fiction series, was given no more time than any other series, even though we had much more things to do.”
Davison continued: “We were always up against the clock, always had the lights turned off on us. That lead to delays which left everyone upset because we were going over budget.
“I enjoyed it eventually but it was tough, and I wasn’t really that sorry when I left. I’d done three years, which I figured was enough time to do a series for Doctor Who and it seemed about the right time to leave. I say it was tough, but it was a steady job. I suppose I could have done it until now really. I decided three years was enough and left.”
Admitting that he could not fully explain his regeneration, Davison said the whole filming experience was hard to comprehend as an actor.
“While I was very happy with the decision to move on, there is something about the day when you record your regeneration which I cannot explain to you,” he said.
“It was as if… and funnily enough I was talking to David Tennant about this, and he said the same thing. When he decided to leave he was absolutely fine with the decision to leave. He knew it was the best thing to do.
“He’d done his time on Doctor Who. But when you’re in the studio and you do the regeneration bit and then some other buddy comes in and lays in your place, it’s the toughest thing to take.
Davison added: “You just think, ‘have I made a terrible mistake here? Do I really want to do this?’ and in my case it was Colin Baker, who was several sizes larger than me.
“I remember we had to cut a large v-shape in the back of my trousers to go over him. Of course, the Doctor starts off in the old Doctor’s outfit. Still, he’d love me saying that.”
It comes as Davison revealed the reason why 45-year-old Tennant married his actress daughter in real life.

Doctor Who series 10 returns to BBC One on April 15 at 7:20pm.
