But after just three balls of the Stars’ run chase, the covers came onto the ground, causing a delay of nearly 45 minutes.

However, Thunder quick Daniel Sams’ damaging spell put the result beyond doubt when play resumed, with the left armer claiming figures of 3-5.

BATTLE OF THE TEENAGE SENSATIONS

Nepal teenager Sandeep Lamichhane bowled superbly to finish with figures of 2-36 from 4 overs.

The 18-year-old Stars wonderkid tormented the Thunder batsman and should have had another LBW were it not for a tough missed call.

For the Thunder it was 19-year-old Jason Sangha that lit up Manuka Oval with some breathtaking stroke play on the way to becoming the youngest player to make a BBL 50.

Sangha blasted 63 from 36 balls with four fours and four sixes and he helped steady the innings when he came to the crease, with the Thunder in trouble at 3-59.

It is not hard to see why Sangha has been touted as ‘the next Ricky Ponting’.

The teenage pair made a splash in their first game of the BBL season and they both a big future in Twenty20 cricket.

FERGUSON SIX TAKES OUT CROWD MEMBER

There were tears in the crowd when a person in the stands spilt a monster six from Callum Ferguson.

What made the missed catch worse is that it hit an unsuspecting supporter on the knee, after it slipped through the first fan’s fingers.

The Thunder finished with eight sixes from their innings thanks to Jason Sangha’s four maximums.

However it was Ferguson’s six that was the second of the innings, which put the crowd firmly on their toes.

PLUMB LBW SHOUTS GO BEGGING

Fox Cricket commentator Mark Waugh was flabbergasted when two LBW shouts went unrewarded in the Thunder’s innings, despite appearing plumb.

Firstly Stars’ spinner Adam Zampa trapped Callum Ferguson on the back knee roll when he was on naught, but the umpire gave it not out.

Next Sandeep Lamichhane appeared to catch Jason Sangha dead in front, but again the umpire ruled not out, much to the amazement of Waugh.

“Are we not playing LBW’s tonight?” Waugh said with tongue in cheek.

It was a costly no call for the Stars, as Sangha went on to top score with 63 to rescue the Thunder.

WHAT’S NEXT?

The Thunder will travel back to Sydney and face the Sixers in the ‘Sydney Smash’ on Christmas Eve, while the Stars head to Hobart to face the Hurricanes on Monday afternoon.

Three Russian nationals, an Iranian citizen and four locals have been caught in an explosion that rocked downtown Yerevan, Armenia late on Monday. Two Milwaukee police officers are being hailed as heroes after dragging injured passengers from the burning wreckage of crashed car.

Officers Nicholas Schei and Nicholas Reid witnessed the near-fatal accident in the Hampton Heights area Tuesday, when the driver of a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am lost control and hit a utility pole.

With the car upside down in the middle of the road, the two District Four cops sprung into action to rescue the occupants from the burning, crushed car.

Footage taken from a police bodycam shows plumes of smoke rising from the car’s hood. In the dramatic video, Reid and Schei race against time to drag two injured youngsters away from the flaming wreck.

According to the Milwaukee Police Department, the two men, who came up through the police academy together, are now in line to receive a merit award for their heroics.

“Officers Schlei, Reid and other officers from District Four risked their own lives and pulled the driver, a 16-year-old Milwaukee male, and another teenage male passenger from the car,” the police said in a statement.

“A third teenage male passenger from the vehicle was located nearby. All three victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries,” it added.

The rescue took less than 60 seconds. However, Schlei said, faced with one of the worst car accidents he has dealt with, the incident seemed much longer.

“I knew the car had the potential to become engulfed but at the time that was not what we were thinking. We were just thinking to keep going until everyone is out,” Schlei said in a press conference on Wednesday.

Officer Reid added: “Obviously, it’s a shock to anyone when you see that kind of car accident. We knew that we had to get those kids out because of the fire. That was our first instinct.”

The driver of the vehicle has been charged with reckless driving.

A New Jersey mall was forced into lockdown after a crowd of between 700 and 1,000 juveniles became unruly to the point where shops shuttered their windows, the escalators were switched off and the police were called.

The incident began at approximately 7:30 pm local time at the mall entrance beside a JC Penney store. Responding officers encountered a crowd of between 700 and 1,000 unaccompanied juveniles.

“The day after Christmas is one of the busiest shopping days of the season. Over the last few years malls nationwide have seen an increase in the number of unattended juveniles that are dropped off at retail shopping centers, creating disturbances and engaging in criminal behavior,” Cherry Hill police Department wrote in an online statement ahead of Tuesday evening’s madness.

The department would ultimately lament the irresponsible decisions by so many parents to leave their unattended children en masse to disrupt other shoppers as they continued their holiday celebrations.

As the mob became increasingly unruly, an announcement over the mall’s loudspeaker instructed everyone under the age of 18 to leave the mall immediately, informing them that additional police were already on their way to the scene. Several stores resorted to pulling down their shutters, to protect both patrons and staff.

Footage taken by Kolby Eleazer shows the carnage unfold, with mall patrons trapped behind security gates inside of stores.

“While dispersing the crowd five juveniles, four from Camden, NJ and one from Cherry Hill, NJ, were arrested for charges ranging from disorderly conduct to resisting arrest. Due to the large police presence on location no injuries or property damage were reported,” the department wrote in a follow-up statement.

Lt. Robert Kempf, a spokesman for the Cherry Hill Police department, dismissed rumors circulating on social media that firearms were brandished during the chaos, reports NJ.com.

Such disorderly scenes have become commonplace across the United States in recent years. A similar, though much smaller, incident at the Weberstown Mall in Stockton, California provoked a police response, though there were no reports of arrests, injuries or property damage, according to RecordNet.

This footage captured similar yuletide madness at the Fox Valley Mall in Aurora, Illinois last year.

Snap‘s stock was up on Monday after a survey conducted by RBC Capital Markets found that its Snapchat app is still the darling of US teenage consumers.

Snapchat was the most popular app among teenagers from aged 13 to 18, with 79% of respondents claiming to have an account. Among the age cohort, 73% said they had an Instagram account and only 57% said they had a Facebook account.

The teenage cohort has become an important demographic among social media platforms because teenagers can provide a signal of future internet consumer trends. 

Snapchat was also the app of choice among teenagers when asked to pick only one social media network they could keep with them if they were stuck on a deserted island. The survey found that 44% of teenagers picked Snapchat, followed by Instagram with 24% and Facebook with 14%.

Though Snap has fallen out of favor with some investors this year—plummeting below $ 12 a share after its disastrous third-quarter earnings—it has since climbed back after some positive news from analysts. 

The company is trying out a new redesign of its app, which could draw in more users and boost user engagement, a Barclays analyst found. 

Snap’s stock was up 1.75% at $ 16.03 per share on Monday. It’s down 5.7% since its March initial public offering.
