A disgruntled New York Jets fan has tried to justify a charge of drink driving by blaming his not-so-beloved team.

Jets fan Christopher Greyshock from West Milford was charged for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) after being involved in a crash last weekend, when he drove into the back of another vehicle at 5:15pm on Sunday afternoon.

The incident took place in the New York town of Wayne, just after the Jets crashed to their seventh defeat of the season, as the equally hapless Buffalo Bills ran out convincing 41-10 winners at MetLife Stadium.

Authorities revealed that Greyshock told Wayne police officers that he was intoxicated as a result of the Jets’ performance.

“I drank too much because the Jets suck,” he said, AP reports.

A police search of Greyshock’s car found an open bottle of whiskey and a substance believed to be marijuana, as Greyshock was handed a DWI charge as well as a charge of assault by auto.

It is unknown whether he has enlisted the services of a lawyer. Given his initial defence, he may need one.

SEAL Team's David Boreanaz: Jason's Life Shifts 'Radically' After Tragedy — Plus, a 'Heartbreaking' Scene to Come https://briefnews.eu/seal-teams-david-boreanaz-jasons-life-shifts-radically-after-tragedy-plus-a-heartbreaking-scene-to-come/ https://briefnews.eu/seal-teams-david-boreanaz-jasons-life-shifts-radically-after-tragedy-plus-a-heartbreaking-scene-to-come/#respond Thu, 18 Oct 2018 13:33:21 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/seal-teams-david-boreanaz-jasons-life-shifts-radically-after-tragedy-plus-a-heartbreaking-scene-to-come/ “It’s going to be an intense journey,” SEAL Team‘s David Boreanaz says of the loss suffered by Jason Hayes in this Wednesday’s episode of the CBS military drama.

As telegraphed last week at the close of the season’s second episode, Jason’s wife Alana (recurring player Michaela McManus) was in a fatal car accident, while running a quick errand upon his return home from a mission. The rest of the hour encompassed the reactions of Jason, his kids Emma and Michael, and well as his SEAL brothers — capped by a warm moment between Jason and CIA liaison Mandy.

“It was so hard to go down a path this emotional,” Boreanaz says, “but look, at the end of [Episode] 2 I think the floodgates opened. Things are going to shift radically, and I’m really proud of the work from everybody and where we’re at right now. It’s going to be an emotional ride, and some really great work, the next few episodes.”

When Bravo Team was ordered to spin up for a new mission, Jason knew that he had to stand down, being the only parent his kids have left. But for how long can he sit on the sidelines? Boreanaz spoke with TVLine about Jason’s status with the team, and much more.

TVLINE | When did you first get wind that this was coming? Because when I saw Michaela at the NBC Upfront in May, she knew she was going to be back for a bit.
Well, it was something that was suggested to me, and I said to [showrunner] John [Glenn] that it’s a very delicate situation and you have to take into consideration where Michaela was, going on to a new show…. And you know, she’s so awesome. [Pauses] I mean, I talk about it now and I get choked up because she’s such a sweetheart, and a part of the show was her being able to allow the character to explore these areas. It’s a huge sacrifice to say, “Yeah, OK, I’ll die. I’ll get into an accident.” When we pitched the whole season to the network, at first the network was hesitant. They thought, “Oh, maybe she should travel to the West Coast with the kids, they could be divorced,” and I said, “Well, you’re losing a really strong impactful moment that could shift and change the emotionality we’ve got.” (TVLine reached out to McManus, who stars on the midseason drama The Village, for comment on her exit, which is printed at right.)

I told them, and I could be wrong, that I’ve never seen this on a show, where a guy who’s in the military — who’s a Tier 1 operator who is so addicted to his job and this adrenaline rush of what he does that when he comes home not only is he affected by the people who can’t understand these guys and their issues, their PTSD and struggling with traumatic brain injury — becomes a single dad. I love the idea, because I thought that the conflict and the stakes would just raise it up high.

TVLINE | In this season’s earlier episodes, was it hard for you and Michaela to not telegraph to the audience, “These are going to be our very final scenes”? Like, “Let’s not have a longing look when I say that I’m going to get you a rotisserie chicken”?
That scene’s tricky, because you have to understand from my perspective and from what my character is going through, that when she says, “Don’t you see how happy you are when you’re home?,” he doesn’t. He kind of gets it and he doesn’t, and that’s one of the things with these guys — what they do is life or death, and they love it. They hit their target and come home. The battle is tenfold for them. And to play that, what I was thinking of going through at that moment was dealing with what a guy like that would deal with, and her dealing with what she would have to deal with as a wife, separated and having two kids. I thought it was played great, and the fact that it was just like, “Hey, I’m going to go out and get us some chicken, beer,” whatever, that’s it.

TVLINE | For this episode, what scene was most important for you to pull off?
There are so many. There’s a journey to this, from the end of Episode 2, which for my character was the realization of what just happened and I’m turned around, and the journey into the hospital, putting the pieces back together, going through that anger phase, that depression, that sadness…. It’s definitely the five stages of death. And then you need to be able to add layers so you’re specifically dialed in and not just one-note. As an actor, it’s very challenging, and I work with Ivana Chubbuck who has been my girl, man, for 20 years. We get each other. For this journey, if you’re not going to be able to open the doors that you’re afraid of, I use that fear as motivation. Otherwise, what’s the purpose?

TVLINE | When Jason was holding it together for the first couple acts, I was like, “I get it. He’s strong.” But as a viewer, as someone invested in his family, I needed this guy to lose it. So when the kitchen scene came along, I was like, “OK, now I’m dialed in.”
Yeah. Yeah. There are so many different levels to it. It starts at the end of [Episode] 2 and then it goes to 3, then it goes to 4, 5, and 6…. It’s not just a one-scene moment and then everything’s done. This is a hard journey and something that I’m so excited that I took on. I just said, “You know what, it’s time to just buckle in and get focused on this,” so I’m happy that people allow me to do that.

TVLINE | Can we just talk for a second about Kerri Medders, who plays your daughter, Emma? Because wow.
She’s awesome.

TVLINE | Playing a mourning child is ostensibly easy — you do the things you’re supposed to do. But it can be a mess if you don’t have the right child actor in there. And now I’m getting choked up.
She’s the crux. I talked about it to A.J. [Buckley] yesterday. He said, “Man, I did some ADR, and the scene between you and your daughter….” Again, that’s the stuff that’s going to wreck you, man, if you’re a parent or not. But Kerri, she gauged off of what we were giving her. She’s really good at listening. She’s super present, which makes it very vulnerable. In the kitchen scene, I scared the s–t out of her. [Laughs] It was pretty heavy. The woman who played my mother, she looked at me like, “OK, I need to go take a step outside.” So there were some really tense moments of vulnerability on that set and it affected you know everybody at the crew for six episodes. But yeah, Kerri is phenomenal, she’s phenomenal.

TVLINE | In the immediate wake of this, I’m wondering: How does Jason ever get back to doing his job? I totally support his decision to stand down on this next mission, but that’s not the show. What is it going to take for him to get back to the team? Like, does Naima step up and say, “I can handle such-and-such,” or…?
I will say that it is someone from the homeland that gives him the OK, and the moment is so intense and just heartbreaking. There are more people to be lost, I’ll tell you that, in the next four or five episodes. But there is a message that he gets that will allow him to [rejoin the team].

TVLINE | Lastly, what do you want to say about that scene toward the end, with Jason and Mandy in his car? What all was that about?
It was a great scene. Obviously it was cut down a bit; the director’s cut you would love. In finding the car, I said, “You know, we’ve got to have a car that is reminiscent of maybe something that Jason and Alana used to have and drive before he got into BUD/S.” Something that he was building for her and rebuilding, and I was like it will be great if we just do it in the car. [Director] Chris [Chulack] loved the idea, and you know now you have Alana gone and now Manny steps into that car. If you want to say it’s foreshadowing or not, I don’t want to jump that shark because I think the beautiful thing about the relationship between Jason and Mandy is this: Everyone will be like, “Oh, it’s so predictable that they’re going to hook up.” Well, how do you know that we haven’t already? I’ll just say that. I’m not saying they slept with each other — I don’t know what it is, but I think it’s a little bit more interesting. And again, the layers of a relationship in this environment, in this work environment, with what these guys do is going to be intense and fun.

TVLINE | Well, what I like about the cut of the scene we did get was it told me that she’s someone to whom he can say, “Don’t say this, don’t say that, I’ve heard it all week. Let’s talk about anything else.” And then she sits in the car, holding his hand and then there’s just like silence — and maybe the silence continues. Or maybe she starts talking about an op or something. But she gets it.
Yeah. She does, and that’s where I see the path. The two of them have high respect for each other and in the world that they live in, in the work environment they live in, especially with these Tier 1 operators…. They’re not 100 percent, they’re 150 or 180, high adrenaline, and they do things way intense.

Blue Jays GM feels Donaldson trade was 'best decision' for team's future https://briefnews.eu/blue-jays-gm-feels-donaldson-trade-was-best-decision-for-teams-future/ https://briefnews.eu/blue-jays-gm-feels-donaldson-trade-was-best-decision-for-teams-future/#respond Sun, 02 Sep 2018 10:21:46 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/blue-jays-gm-feels-donaldson-trade-was-best-decision-for-teams-future/
The Toronto Blue Jays decided moving Josh Donaldson now was a better idea than holding onto a star third baseman with an uncertain future.

That was the message from Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins in a conference call with reporters on Saturday, one day after rebuilding Toronto traded the injury-plagued 2015 AL MVP to the Cleveland Indians for a player to be named later.

"Josh is an incredible player and will continue to be a great player … As we weighed our alternatives, it just came down to us feeling this was the best [move] for us in the moment," Atkins said.

Out of the lineup since late May with a calf injury, Donaldson returned for a rehab game on Tuesday night with single-A Dunedin. That allowed the Blue Jays to place Donaldson on waivers and potentially trade him prior to Friday's deadline for players to be moved and still be eligible for a post-season roster.

If they didn't trade Donaldson on Friday, the Jays could have made a qualifying offer of around $ 18 US million and received a compensatory draft pick if he signed elsewhere.

While Atkins did not mention it, one factor in the decision could have been the emergence of fellow third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the top prospect in baseball. He's expected to join the Jays in late April next year, allowing Toronto to maintain Guerrero's contract rights for an additional season.

"I think every decision we make, we weigh the potential risk and upside and decided ultimately this was the best thing for the organization as we considered our alternatives with Josh," Atkins said. "We feel very good about the return. Ultimately, we felt it was the best decision for our future."

Atkins hints at solid return

Atkins would not name the player to be named later, but said it has been agreed upon by both teams. Right-hander Julian Merryweather has been mentioned as a possible candidate in several reports. He needed Tommy John surgery after an elbow injury in the spring.

"What I can tell you is that we're excited about the return," Atkins said. "It's a near-term prospect we feel can impact our major-league team in a significant way."

Atkins said there was no animosity between the Jays and Donaldson for the player's decision to follow his own training program in the off-season or how his rehab was handled. He also said there was no pressure from the Jays organization for Donaldson to return to the field, something that had to happen for the third baseman to be placed on waivers.

"We were not pressuring him to play," Atkins said. "Josh was driving his timeline entirely leading us to when he wanted to play. We followed his lead on that."

Donaldson hinted at frustration in an interview with the Toronto Sun this week, saying "There's a lot I can say about that [Blue Jays management], but I choose not to say anything about it right now."

Atkins, who came to Toronto from the Indians organization along with Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro, said the deal with Cleveland offered the best return. He said they were in solid talks with four teams.

"It was a very difficult decision for us," Atkins said.

The Indians play a four-game series in Toronto starting Thursday.

Donaldson will reunite with former Blue Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion in Cleveland.

Viper valedictory victory lap: Watch U.S. team's final run at Nurburgring https://briefnews.eu/viper-valedictory-victory-lap-watch-u-s-teams-final-run-at-nurburgring/ https://briefnews.eu/viper-valedictory-victory-lap-watch-u-s-teams-final-run-at-nurburgring/#respond Mon, 04 Sep 2017 19:01:27 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/viper-valedictory-victory-lap-watch-u-s-teams-final-run-at-nurburgring/

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been following the attempts by a team of Dodge Viper enthusiasts to recapture the production-car lap record at the Nürburgring.

Dodge once held the Ring record, actually not once, but twice, long ago with the previous-generation Viper ACR, but it never went back with the latest ACR. And now, of course, the last Viper has rolled off the assembly line, and the factory has been shuttered. So this team of Viper privateers took the quest into their own hands and has been in Germany, where the intense summer heat has been an enemy of tires and official times.

The record, held by the Lamborghini Huracan Performante, stands at 6 minutes, 52 seconds. The Viper team’s attempts fell short at 7:03.23 and 7:03.45, with the final run shown here timing out at 7:01.3. (That’s no spoiler, since it says it in the title card.)

So yes, that’s 9 seconds short of the record. But the attempt shown above leaves a Viper Nation proud.

But listen closely: Hope is in the air. The impending MLB free-agent frenzy and a gargantuan sum of television money may inject the City of Brotherly Love with some much-needed juice.

In Barack Obama’s final year as a spry first-termer, the Phillies finished 81-81. Subsequently, the roster was gutted, and any semblance of contention suspended. But in 2014, the genesis of future excitement arrived in the form of a $ 2.5 billion, 25-year television extension with Comcast SportsNet. Even though it’s not the most lucrative cable deal in baseball, it emboldened Philadelphia to plan for future success. Not normally thought of as a big-money team, the Phillies are now prepared to spend like heavy hitters (the Dodgers, the Yankees, the Red Sox et al.) and, perhaps, revisit the glory of a World Series victory. But will the threat of disappearing cable viewers thwart their plans? In this era of cable cord-cutters, where will live sports broadcasts go next? “We believe in the team that we have here,” Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola told OZY prior to the start of the season. “But we have to work with what we’ve got.”

Live sports are still king on cable, but you have to plan ahead of the trend and determine what works for digital.

Andy Tennant, ESPN executive producer

When Philadelphia’s deal with Comcast closed in 2014, management began aggressively clearing payroll. In two seasons, the Phillies dropped from third place to 26th in total payroll, and the on-field product plummeted. Nola’s spring-training optimism was not unfounded, but overall the roster leaves much to be desired. So, as the Phillies round out June at the back of the NL East pack, rumblings of impending trades and free-agent signings have begun.

Gettyimages 700109778

The cable revenue and $ 200 million in payroll cuts provide a fluffy cushion, but management included one more meticulous detail. Incredibly, Philadelphia is committed to only rising star center fielder Odubel Herrera for any amount of money next season. Beyond Herrera, who’s signed through 2023 and is owed $ 3.35 millionnext year, every player becomes a free agent at season’s end. That means Philadelphia is in the perfect position to pounce next summer when, arguably, the richest pool of free agents ever hits the open market. “That class is an incredibly deep group,” says Brewers scout Pete Vuckovich Jr. “Probably 10 of the best players in baseball will be signable.”

The Phillies — and every other team with cash — covet Washington outfielder Bryce Harper. Entering his prime, Harper is a lock to bypass the current $ 325 million record ink of Miami’s Giancarlo Stanton. If Harper does become baseball’s $ 400 million man, a team with flexibility, like Philadelphia’s, may reel him in. All-stars like Manny Machado, Josh Donaldson and Clayton Kershaw also will be available. Indeed, signing a dynamic duo looks more realistic by the day.

While the Phillies’ doormat-to-dominance plan remains a wish of tomorrow, the blueprint for success already exists. When the Cubs re-upped TV deals with Comcast, WGN and ABC in 2014, it was a bottom-of-the-barrel club too. And, like Philly, Cubs president Theo Epstein dumped costly veterans and developed young talent through the farm system. A year after the new TV deals, Epstein signed several key free agents, and the rest is history.

Now Cubs management is eyeing an even bigger target: launching its own television network once its current cable deals expire in 2019. “We look forward to the day we start our own channel,” team chairman and owner Tom Ricketts declared. Owning a television channel, as the Yankees do with the YES Network, would further stretch the shifting boundaries of live rights in MLB.

At present, individual clubs and networks own the rights to all TV broadcasts, while MLB owns all streaming rights. With an estimated 1 in 5 American homes ditching traditional cable services in favor of streaming, a turning point is near. Live sports is still the most lucrative content on television — last year 27 of the top 50 cable broadcasts belonged to the NFL alone — and it’s widely viewed as the last stronghold against cord-cutters.

Nonetheless, live sports broadcasts are headed to the Internet too. After testing Twitter as a streaming platform last season, the NFL in April agreed to let Amazon stream 10 “Thursday Night Football” games on Amazon Prime this season. Likewise, in May, MLB signed a 20-game live-streaming test run with Facebook. In the announcement, Dan Reed, Facebook’s head of global sports partnerships, said that Facebook is “thrilled to connect fans around the action, no matter where they live in the U.S.”

Not long ago, these streaming deals were an MLB long shot. Prior to this season, anyone attempting to watch a local market game on MLB.com was barred. The blackout was a defense mechanism, of course, but now the floodgates have opened. Will lucrative network deals like the Phillies’ pact with Comcast SportsNet lose their luster as viewers move to streaming? “Live sports are still king on cable,” says Andy Tennant, executive producer of ESPN’s E:60 and Outside the Lines, “but you have to plan ahead of the trend and determine what works for digital.”

New York bankruptcy attorney Anthony De Leo can envision litigation, as was the case when the Houston Astros’ now defunct partner, Comcast SportsNet Houston, went under. “In situations when the money dries up,” says De Leo, “payouts occur by priority. Eventually, everyone takes a haircut.” Hypothetically, says De Leo, “the highest-paid players could be on the hook for a lot of money.”

So, what’s next? Likely, personalized live-broadcast presentations, based not simply by region but also by interests and browsing tendencies. That is, if Facebook has any say in the matter.

Misha Collins Previews His Timeless Trip as Eliot Ness — Plus: Watch the Fed Critique the Time Team's Clothes https://briefnews.eu/misha-collins-previews-his-timeless-trip-as-eliot-ness-plus-watch-the-fed-critique-the-time-teams-clothes/ https://briefnews.eu/misha-collins-previews-his-timeless-trip-as-eliot-ness-plus-watch-the-fed-critique-the-time-teams-clothes/#respond Fri, 10 Feb 2017 21:57:09 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/misha-collins-previews-his-timeless-trip-as-eliot-ness-plus-watch-the-fed-critique-the-time-teams-clothes/ Once upon a time, Supernatural creator Eric Kripke gave life to the angel Castiel.

Now the Timeless co-creator has enlisted the man behind the wings, actor Misha Collins, to bring Untouchables leader Eliot Ness to life on his NBC drama.

When Flynn calls in a favor from Al Capone in 1931 Chicago, good guys Lucy, Wyatt and Rufus seek out the famed lawman who brought the gangster down — but will they clue Ness into what’s really going on?

TVLine invited Collins to share how the reunion came to be, and to preview his role in Monday’s time-trippy episode (airing at 10/9c).

TVLINE | How did this guest spot come about? Who approached who?
Eric sent me an email, saying, “Are you busy?” I said, “As a matter of fact, I think it might just work out.” I had an episode where I was light on Supernatural, and it looked like it was possible that I could negotiate doing two at the same time. And it’s helpful that Timeless, along with every other show being shot these days, shoots in Vancouver. It wasn’t too challenging of a drive from one set to the other. In fact, the studios are as close to adjacent as they get in Vancouver. They’re like a mile apart.

TVLINE | How did Eric describe the character to you?
He described it with two words: Eliot Ness. That was all he pretty much gave me to go on at first, and I said, “Send me the script right now!” It was great, and I was happy to do something with Eric again. Also, I’ve seen Timeless and thought it was great. It’s such an epic show. I cannot believe what has become of television. The fact that they can shoot a show that epic, with that much production value, is just jaw-dropping to me. It kind of makes Supernatural feel like a student film project. [Laughs] Supernatural is a very intimate and tiny show compared to Timeless.

TVLINE | I’m assuming Timeless‘ version of Eliot Ness is not a hunter like the Supernatural one. How closely does he hew to what we know from the history books?
Very closely. That’s very much the premise of Timeless, dealing with those real-life historic figures. There’s not a lot of film footage of Eliot Ness to go off, so I had to take some liberties. But they tried to make my hair and my wardrobe look as much like him as possible. He’s dealing with the same issues that Eliot Ness was dealing with, mainly taking down Al Capone. It’s very much grounded in history.

TVLINE | What’s his first interaction with the time team like?
His first reaction is, I would say, dubious. But then he warms up to them. But initially, he’s dubious of them and their wardrobe.

TVLINE | Is it not accurate at all?
I wouldn’t say not accurate at all, but there are some red flags in terms of the attire.

Watch an exclusive preview of the exchange, then scroll down to keep reading.

TVLINE | How much do they bring Eliot Ness into everything that’s going on with the time travel and Rittenhouse?

He’s completely kept in the dark. [Laughs] They’re lying to the feds, basically. There’s a little bit of double-entendre and a little bit of confusion as to what’s really going on. He thinks that they’re pursuing a bad guy that William Randolph Hearst put them up to going after. They’ve just made up a completely fabricated backstory that I buy into.

TVLINE | Was there anything you were surprised to learn about Ness during the course of this episode?
I’ll tell you this, [and] this is a little bit of a spoiler: There is a very stark departure from history as we know it and what unfolds in Ness’ story in this episode. Because of the nature of them meddling with the past, we find that Ness has a remarkably different biography by the end of this episode than he does in the version of reality that you and I live in. How’s that for a very elliptical [teaser]?
