Game of Thrones has kept fans on the edge of their seats for almost ten years.

With the final season looming many fans on the Game of Thrones subreddit are trying to work out how the epic fantasy tale is going to end.

And as the White Walkers are a major plot point of the upcoming final season, dedicated fans are beginning to wonder about many of their actions.

In particular, some fans online recently questioned why Samwell Tarley (played by John Bradley) was spared by the White Walkers back in season three.

In the final moments of the season Sam was caught between a rock and a White Walker as he saw men of the Night’s Watch being killed.

And although it looked like he was spotted by the evil creatures, he made it out of the situation alive – and as the only survivor.

A user on Reddit questioned: “Why didn’t the White Walker kill Sam? It looks like he definitely spotted Sam, or else why would they even bother to show the WW’S side glance towards Sam?”

It seems unlikely that the creatures would randomly leave one person alive, but the viewers seem to have thought this out as well.

One user responded with a number of reasons, with the first being: “The White Walker didn’t see Sam. However, I agree with you that it was heavily implied that they made eye contact.”

The second reason brought up was as follows: “The scene wasn’t shot correctly and Sam was intended to be much further away than he appeared to the White Walker.”

However the viewer eventually settled on another reason – one which makes a lot of sense.

They continued: “The reason which makes the most sense [in my opinion]. The White Walkers have a tendency to leave one person alive to tell the tale, just like in the pilot episode.”

Hardcore fans will remember the first episode of the show saw one member of the Night’s Watch being let go by the White Walkers after seeing his brothers die.

Another viewer even agreed, adding: “Sam isn’t a threat, nor would he be an asset to the army of the dead. There wouldn’t be much point in killing him.”

Could Sam have been spared to spread the horrifying news of the White Walkers to his brothers in the Night’s Watch?

If this is true, the decision ultimately came back to haunt them as Sam later figured out how to kill the creatures once and for all – dragon glass.

Meanwhile Tyrion Lannister actor Peter Dinklage recently spoke out about his final season as the dastardly social-climber.

He told Vulture: “Death can be a great way out. I think [Tyrion] was given a very good conclusion.”

But will he survive the Game of Thrones?

Game of Thrones season 8 will return to HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2019. Seasons 1-7 are currently streaming on NOW TV.

Game Of Thrones season 8 spoilers: Samwell Tarly to END the show in fan theory shake-up? https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-spoilers-samwell-tarly-to-end-the-show-in-fan-theory-shake-up/ https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-spoilers-samwell-tarly-to-end-the-show-in-fan-theory-shake-up/#respond Sun, 28 Jan 2018 02:13:57 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-spoilers-samwell-tarly-to-end-the-show-in-fan-theory-shake-up/

Loyal viewers believe Samwell Tarly (played by John Bradley-West) may well end the show.

Fans predict that he will end up with Gilly (Hannah Murray), and will turn out to have written the whole story of Game of Thrones in an epilogue.

This would refer to his namesake in The Return of the King or Christian Slater in The Name of the Rose.

It would also relate back to a key scene in season seven when Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) penned a heartbreaking letter to Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

Following the harrowing sea battle that ensued in episode two of series seven, Jorah was told by Archmaester Ebrose (Jim Broadbent) that his greyscale couldn’t be cured.

In the Citadel he was instructed that he was going to be sent to Old Valyria to live the rest of his life with the stone men.

However, Jorah wrote one last farewell letter to Daenerys, Khaleesi, as Samwell decided he could cure him by cutting his affected skin off and applying an ointment.

Viewers only managed to get a quick glimpse of his dark shadowy letter, but here’s what we were able to read: “Khaleesi, I went to the Citadel in the last hope that the maesters could treat me as you ordered.

“Even with all [illegible] I am beyond any cure out the grave.

“I have had a longer life than I deserved and I only wish I could’ve lived to see the world you’re going to build, standing by your side.

“I have loved you since the moment I met you. If there’s… [illegible]. Jorah.”

Script leaks have plagued most seasons of Game of Thrones ahead of their official release, with many accurate storylines revealed online.

The final season is no different with many pages of scripts, which are unverified but appear to be real based on previous leaks, circulating on the internet.

Some of the supposed plot lines already leaked include Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) and her brother Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) locked in a fierce argument while the Night King (Vladimir Furdik) and the White Walkers attempt to invade King’s Landing.

Actor Peter Dinklage – who portrays Tyrion Lannister in the show – told Variety that season eight was “about halfway through filming” and that it would be a “bittersweet” conclusion.

Referring to the delay, he added: “It’s the final season, and it’s a long one so we’re taking our time.”

will return to Sky Atlantic in 2019.

Game of Thrones season 8: Star spills all on HUGE Sam Tarly change 'He's a rule-breaker' https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-star-spills-all-on-huge-sam-tarly-change-hes-a-rule-breaker/ https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-star-spills-all-on-huge-sam-tarly-change-hes-a-rule-breaker/#respond Sat, 30 Dec 2017 14:51:43 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-star-spills-all-on-huge-sam-tarly-change-hes-a-rule-breaker/

As the actor is busy filming the final series he has reflected on his time on the show noting that Sam has become a lot braver.

“When he first arrived he was a source of great mystery and frustration and he incurs the wrath of people because he’s arrived at a place that’s very inhospitable and he’s expect to physically fight and physically survive,” the 29-year-old commented.

“He’s completely ill equipped for life up there. It’s only when he explains that he’s in an impossible situation because his father hates him so much and has basically told him, ‘Go there or I’ll kill you!’

“That’s when you realise what it’s like to be this man; he doesn’t know where to turn, or has any choice in life. He’s displaced.”

But following Sam’s first appearance in season one he has become more of a fighter and isn’t as scared to break rules.

“These characters are very detailed and from moment to moment you’re in a different place,” John continued in an interview for 15 Minutes With You.

“When Sam goes home to his family in season six that’s him in a very different environment to what he’s ever been before.

“Sam is forbidden to have a wife so she’s [Gilly] not my wife. But he’s a rule-breaker; he’s very subversive in his own low-key way.”

The star also noted that his character divides fans, noting: “Women seem to like him but a certain type of man doesn’t like to be reminded of their own vulnerabilities and they believe that men should be super strong and super stable.

“Men like that really hate characters like Sam. The thing about the character that I find interesting is that people say, ‘You turned brave.’ I think he was always brave.”

Game of Thrones season 8: Sam Tarly star drops major bombshell about EVERY character https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-sam-tarly-star-drops-major-bombshell-about-every-character/ https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-sam-tarly-star-drops-major-bombshell-about-every-character/#respond Wed, 13 Dec 2017 17:00:43 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-sam-tarly-star-drops-major-bombshell-about-every-character/

The 29-year-old actor dropped various hints about the surprising final season, which only comprises of six episodes, admitting that everyone is about to face their own individual “alien” situation.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, John explained: “Each of the characters this year is placed in a completely alien environment at some point in the season that they’ve never been placed in before.

”The thrill is seeing how they react to it and how they respond… This season, I think, more than any other is stretching these characters.”

The HBO show hasn’t been averse to location-hopping, with many of its lavish scenes filmed in various parts of Europe.

What is surprising though, is that some of those battling for the Iron Throne will be forced to vacate if his suggestions are true – notably Cersei Lannister (played by Lena Headey) and her minions.

Has John dropped an enormous spoiler by revealing that the bitter Queen does actually lose the final battle and is forced to live out the rest of her days elsewhere? And if so, could it be Jon Snow (Kit Harington) or Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) that take her place?

The fantasy drama left off in season seven with the Night King launching his final attack against Westeros, as viewers were forced to witness the 800-year-old Wall crumble to the ground and the White Walkers scramble across in one foul swoop.

Season eight promises to end George R. R. Martin’s adaptation with a bang as all major players putting all hands on deck to defeat the imminent threat of extinction.

While details have been kept tightly under wraps, even Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) has hinted at her character’s fate.

Following the finale’s last read-through, she revealed: “It was very, very bittersweet. The first day of the actors coming in and that kind of production starting, the day where we had the final read through for the final script… It was really bittersweet. It was hard.

“At the end of the very last script, they read aloud, ‘End of Game of Thrones.’ As soon as they read that out, pretty much everyone burst into tears.”

The 21-year-old added: “There was a standing ovation for show runners [David Benioff and Dan Weiss]. We were all clapping and cheering. It was amazing.”

Game of Thrones season eight is expected to air in 2019.

Game of Thrones season 8: Samwell Tarly actor drops HUGE spoiler about final season https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-samwell-tarly-actor-drops-huge-spoiler-about-final-season/ https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-samwell-tarly-actor-drops-huge-spoiler-about-final-season/#respond Thu, 05 Oct 2017 05:51:27 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-samwell-tarly-actor-drops-huge-spoiler-about-final-season/

John Bradley, who stars as the trainee Maester in the HBO hit series, promised fans every episode in the final season will be “monumental”.

As the British star confirmed fan favourite directors Miguel Sapochnik and David Nutter will be returning, he revealed they will bring a “high-stakes and high-octane” direction.

He said to the Huffington Post: “Miguel and David have done some of the standout episodes of previous seasons.

“Clearly every single episode of the six you’ve got left in Season 8 is gonna be monumental and needs somebody at the helm who’s done that kind of high-stakes, high-octane direction before for us.”

Miguel was at the helm of tense season six episode The Battle of The Bastards and the season’s incredible finale The Winds of Winter.

Whereas, David directed the most shocking episode of season three, The Rains of Castamere, which featured the horrific Red Wedding along with season five’s spectacular finale.

With the directors’ track record of producing quality episodes, John confessed fans should expect the entire season to have the same action-packed drama as an episode nine which is usually the stand-out instalment.

He continued: “I think what we used to call Episode 9 in ‘Game of Thrones’ folklore — the episode when everything comes to a head and you get a lot of spectacular sequences — I think you’re gonna get six ‘Episode 9s’ this year.

“You can tell that because we’ve got directors who have been in charge of some of the most huge setpieces in the past doing episodes all throughout the season.”

And Samwell will certainly have a huge part to play in the eighth and final season as he will most likely be the one to tell Jon Snow (Kit Harington) of his true parentage.

Game of Thrones season eight is expected to return to screens in 2019.

Game of Thrones season 7 finale: Fans LOSE IT as they spot this epic Samwell Tarly BLUNDER https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-7-finale-fans-lose-it-as-they-spot-this-epic-samwell-tarly-blunder/ https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-7-finale-fans-lose-it-as-they-spot-this-epic-samwell-tarly-blunder/#respond Mon, 28 Aug 2017 07:41:15 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-7-finale-fans-lose-it-as-they-spot-this-epic-samwell-tarly-blunder/

Game of Thrones may have come crashing to an end but with an array of cliffhangers and revelations, but fans couldn’t ignore one massive plot hole.

As Bran Stark (played by Isaac Hempstead Wright) finally confirmed that Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is a Targaryen, many thought that would be the finale’s major talking point.

Discussing the King of the North’s parentage with Samwell Tarly (John Bradley-West), the Three-Eyed Raven said that Jon has Dragon blood running through him.

However, he was unable to make the same deduction that Sam’s wife, Gilly (Hannah Murray), made previously.

She rightly spotted that Rhaegar Targaryen (Wilf Scolding) and Lyanna Stark (Aisling Franciosi) married in a secret ceremony before giving birth to baby Jon, now revealed to be named as Aegon.

Although fans thought Samwell ignored his wife when she uncovered the enormous bombshell, it turns out he was tuned in all along, telling Bran what was found in the diary.

The revelation is huge, as the pair come to realise that Jon is now the true and rightful heir to the Iron Throne, not his now-Auntie Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) as was first thought.

Clearly confused by the seemingly gaping plot hole as many thought Gilly was ignored, fans of the HBO fantasy took to Twitter to discuss the scene.

One joked: “At least Samwell wasn’t TOTALLY distracted when his wife read the most important thing all series.”

Another added: “So, Samwell was paying attention, after all.”

A third laughed: “I wish my boyfriend listened and remembered things the way Samwell does.”

Elsewhere on the dramatic finale, Emilia’s Dany stripped off for a raunchy sex scene with Jon, completely unaware that they are now related by blood.

Game of Thrones will return for an eighth and final season.

Game of Thrones season 7: What is greyscale? Will Samwell Tarly cure Jorah Mormont? https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-7-what-is-greyscale-will-samwell-tarly-cure-jorah-mormont/ https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-7-what-is-greyscale-will-samwell-tarly-cure-jorah-mormont/#respond Tue, 25 Jul 2017 14:00:18 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-7-what-is-greyscale-will-samwell-tarly-cure-jorah-mormont/

After discovering that Jorah was being held in the Citadel, Samwell Tarly (John Bradley-West) took it upon himself to try to rid him of his greyscale.

Jorah screamed in anguish as the master-in-training cut large patches of scaly skin from his body, and viewers at home were just as pained.

“Jorah Mormont’s greyscale in #GoTS7 is one of the most vile things I’ve seen on TV,” one viewer tweeted.

Another asked: “Who else got physically sick when Sam operated on Jorah?”

Greyscale is a deadly disease which causes thick, crusty lesions to grow on the skin and eventually turns the infected person mad.

Samwell wore heavy gloves as he sliced into Jorah’s skin in order to avoid catching the ailment, which appears to be spread through direct contact.

Jorah contracted greyscale back in season five, when he was ambushed by Stonemen – people with an advanced form of the disease who resemble gargoyles.

Shortly after he was attacked, a spot of dry, cracked skin developed where the Stonemen had touched him.

It quickly spread across his body and in season six he was sent off by Daenerys to find a cure, but has somehow ended up in the Citadel.

There, the Archmaester told him: “You should have cut off your arm the moment that you were touched,” hinting that the spread of the disease can be stopped if the infected area is removed.

Although Jorah’s greyscale is now advanced, Samwell attempted to cure it by excising all of the affected tissue – having read about a similar, successful treatment.

While most people with greyscale are banished from Essos (where it is most common), there is one known case of a child who had the disease but lived a relatively normal life with her family.

Shireen Baratheon was said to have caught greyscale from a doll that her father Stannis bought home from a Dornish market.

She slept with the doll in her crib, and rubbed her face against it.

As soon as her family spotted the symptoms they called for every maester and healer they could find.

The early treatment meant that Shireen’s greyscale was limited to one side of her face, however it has never been explained exactly how this was one.

Some fans believe that dragonglass was used to treat the child, and that it could also help save Jorah.

In the season 7 premiere, Sam discovered a book which revealed that there is a horde of the mythical substance buried underneath Dragonstone – where Shireen once lived, and where Daenerys is currently based.

Game of Thrones continues on Mondays at 2am and 9pm on Sky Atlantic, with episodes available to watch online on Now TV.

Game Of Thrones season 7: Samwell Tarly actor reveals career fears ahead of series ending https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-7-samwell-tarly-actor-reveals-career-fears-ahead-of-series-ending/ https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-7-samwell-tarly-actor-reveals-career-fears-ahead-of-series-ending/#respond Sun, 16 Jul 2017 00:12:11 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-7-samwell-tarly-actor-reveals-career-fears-ahead-of-series-ending/

The popular actor who plays Samwell Tarly revealed that he fears for his acting career when the programme comes to an end.

Returning for a penultimate series next week, John will reprise his role once more in the first job he undertook since finishing his drama training.

He said: “I think it’s going to be a difficult shift. It would be easier for people who have left the show who had any kind of career or experience before they came onto the show, but I didn’t.

“I went straight from drama training into Game Of Thrones and I’ve never been an actor and not been in Game of Thrones so I’m not going back to anything.

“People who come into the show after doing all sorts of work, it just becomes another job on their CV and then they go back to not being in Game Of Thrones again.”

He added: “I’m going into completely uncharted territory.”

Samwell was last seen in series six reaching the Citadel in Oldtown alongside Gilly and her son where he intends to train as a Maester.

Comparing his character’s academic aspirations to his own acting career, John said: “I came from a working-class background where people just didn’t go into acting, they just found a job near where they lived and went into that.

“In a way when I had that first blossoming of desire to want to do this professionally that was as much a pipe dream for me as the Citadel is for Sam.

“You just think I’d like to do it but there’s no practical path that I can see to do it.”

Game of Thrones returns to HBO on July 16 and will be simulcast in the UK at 2am on Sky Atlantic. Catch up on season one to seven on NOW TV.
