Superheroes have been at the forefront of pop culture now for more than two decades, thanks to the success of movies like “X-Men” and “Spider-Man” in the early 2000s. But it can’t just be DC and Marvel’s A-listers like Batman and Captain America carrying this torch forever. More to the point, we could use more stories that bring us into the world of superheroes in a unique way.
That’s where IDW’s new miniseries “Crashing,” which has just hit shelves, is worth putting on your radar — and we’ve got an exclusive look for you!
What we’ve got today is a unique look at Matthew Klein’s five-issue miniseries, which offers a window into the process that illustrator Morgan Beem, colorist Triona Farrell and lettererd Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou went through to get the book in our hands, in its finished form.
“Crashing” follows Rose Osler, a specialist whose focus is patients with Powers. She works at a hospital with a “No Powered Patients” policy. When a battle between Boston’s protectors and destroyers erupts, Rose is trapped between saving the city’s beloved hero by day and greatest villain at night. Except Rose could become a casualty when she’s forced to risk her recovery. This artwork gives us a glimpse at what her life is like in a hospital in a world filled with super powered individuals.

Aside from the details of the plot, the book is being described as part superhero thriller, sort of on the grittier side of things like “The Boys,” by way of a medical drama, sort of like “Nurse Jackie.” So with a little more edge than something like “Grey’s Anatomy.” As someone who has read the first issue, I can confirm that description is accurate.
One thing I can say for sure is that those who enjoy superheroes via movies and TV shows but haven’t dug into the comics may have a tough time making that leap. It can be difficult and intimidating to look at decades and decades worth of stories, wondering where to begin.
What’s nice about something like “Crashing” is that it provides a fresh jumping on point. Not only that, but it’s going to be a miniseries, so it will have a beginning, middle, and end. And it could work well as a starting point for those looking to dive more into the medium of comics, given that they tend to inspire the biggest franchises in the world these days.
“Crashing” #1 is on shelves and available through digital comics retailers now.

The latest trailer for Hulu’s timely dystopian drama has teased a dark fate for the series’ relentless protagonist, June Osborne (played by Elisabeth Moss). However, fans of The Handmaid’s Tale could be in for another shocking twist as a new theory has proposed the former Handmaid could be used as leverage for the freedom of her old captors, the Waterfords.
June Osborne could eventually be freed from the grips of Gilead in the upcoming fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale.
Trailers and synopses for the next episodes have confirmed June will be imprisoned once again in episode three, ‘The Crossing’.
Once under lock and key, June will be subjected to a heartrending reunion with her captured daughter, Hannah (Jordana Blake).
However, the new footage has also confirmed Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski) and Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) are walking free, despite their fate at the end of the third season.

Recent speculation has suggested their escape from Canadian authorities could be linked to June’s brief imprisonment in Gilead.
One fan took to Reddit to flesh out the theory after spotting some intriguing clues in the recent trailers.
User pinkroseginger posted: “Since the episode synopsis for the first three have been released, what if the Waterford’s are a trade for June?”
Although June caused significant trouble for the oppressive regime in the past, Gilead may have only taken her hostage in order to free two of its most prominent figureheads.
Having freed over 50 children over the border, Rita may attempt to convince the Canadian authorities that releasing the Waterfords in exchange for June’s freedom could eventually work in their favour.
The fan continued: “I highly doubt Rita will allow Canada to forget it was June who got those kids out.”
Referring to some recently released stills of the new season, they added: “Especially with some of the photos released of Rita speaking on a stage with a photo of June behind her.”
If these theories are on the right track, the Waterfords’ freedom could indirectly lead to some much needed comeuppance for June’s frequent persecutor, Serena Joy.
Under the rules of Gilead, her heavily rumoured pregnancy in season four would most likely lead to Serena Joy becoming a Handmaid herself.
Separating her from her newborn baby and subjecting her to the same misery she caused June in the Waterford household would certainly give Serena a taste of her own medicine.
Even so, nothing in The Handmaid’s Tale is ever predictable and, with a fifth season confirmed to be in the works, viewers should ready themselves for the next chapter in June’s story to be just as depressing as the last.
The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 premieres Wednesday, April 28 on Hulu.
During the conversation, Miller suggested June will continue to put her life at risk as the war against Gilead’s regime starts to reignite.
He explained: “June is going into a very interesting world, she’s on the run, she’s got women with her who she feels responsible for.
“She’s also bleeding to death, basically, at the end of season [three]. June has a taste of freedom now, and we’re going to follow her.”
Miller went on and previewed what he promised to be a completely different take on the world of The Handmaid’s Tale next time round.

Across fan forums on Reddit, many are talking about the moment June reunites with her daughter Hannah.
Express Online will not reveal details of the reunion so as not to ruin the moment for fans.
But fans will no doubt be questioning if the fourth season will finally see June escape Gilead with her daughter.
In a video posted by Hulu on Friday, the cast come together virtually to announce the news.

The Handmaid’s Tale season three ended with Serena Joy being charged with having June Osbourne (played by Elisabeth Moss) raped by Nick Blaine (Max Minghella). Despite helping to hand over her husband Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) to the Canadian authorities, she was told there was no way out of facing up to her own crimes. Serena Joy was devastated and fans know all she wants is to be a mother to baby Nichole – who was a result of June and Nick’s relationship.
Opening up about her character on The Handmaid’s Tale, Yvonne explained how there’s always an open dialogue about the characters between writers and the cast.
However, she noted there have been a few times when she’s clashed with showrunner Bruce Miller.
Yvonne explained: “The season are pretty much written but there is a lot of back and forth with all of us.
“From my part I try to meet up with Bruce and the writers to get an overall sense of the arc and then as the scripts are coming in, going over them thoroughly before shooting starts and raise any questions.

“I have always found them to be nothing but fruitful. It’s never like, ‘I wouldn’t do this.’”
There have been no clues as to what Serena Joy’s character may face in coming episodes but it’s like she will try to fight for her freedom.
Some fans have suggested she could be sent back to Gilead where she may tried for treason or sent to the Colonies.
However, it is more like Canada will make an example of her and husband Commander Waterford with neither of them seeing baby Nichole again.
Meanwhile, back own Gilead, June will be trying her best to recover from her gunshot wound so she can find daughter Hannah.
For the past three seasons, viewers have seen June desperately try to rescue her daughter only to face a setback.
Hannah has been moved to another district away from June but with the handmaid likely to go underground, could she finally be given a chance to reunite with her daughter?
The Handmaid’s Tale seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video and Now TV now.
However, if this doesn’t happen, viewers could find themselves missing out on a major plot point from the books.
Redditor kassilon explained: “Personally, I’m not sure how much focus can be placed on finding Hannah.
“They’ve made it June’s raison d’être for not escaping, but it may very well be a wild goose chase for a very long time considering (Book spoilers), Hannah eventually becomes an Aunt and her growing up in Gilead is essential for the storyline of the second novel.
“I’m also hoping that they build up for an eventual time-skip to lead into the events of the second book.

Luke continues to carry the loss of June to Gilead on his shoulders after flashbacks revealed the events leading up to her imprisonment in season one.
Moreover, the weight of his perceived failure to protect June is bound to feel even heavier after Fred Waterford goaded him during their brief altercation.
The sadistic Commander warned Luke his wife would be unrecognisable if they ever meet again, provoking him to deliver his satisfying blow to Fred’s face.
Now more furious than ever, Luke could decide to take justice into his own hands by killing Fred as he awaits trial for his heinous crimes in Canada.
The Handmaid’s Tale season four will be released in 2021 on Hulu and Channel 4.

June Osborne (played by Elisabeth Moss) swore never to let baby Nichole grow up in Gilead, no matter who was looking after her, finally sending her over the Canadian border where she would be safe. But, in a mammoth episode set in Washington DC in which Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) and Serena Joy (Yvonna Strahovski) made a plea for the public to find Nichole and reunite the family, something wasn’t right. After scouring the episode, fans have spotted a major issue with this episode.
“In S3 E6, at the end, the handmaids are standing near the former Lincoln Memorial,” a viewer recently explained.
“You see rows of Handmaids. There were a lot of Handmaids, maybe around 2,000-3,000.
“Are those all the Handmaids in the whole of Gilead, and are there Handmaids in the disputed territories, light pink?”
This was quickly followed by another fan who thought they had cracked it.

Serena star Yvonna recently said how difficult the Washington DC scenes were to film.
She explained: “To stand in an area known for people exercising their First Amendment rights to peacefully assemble and object felt dirty.”
She explained: “As actors, when you play these horrid characters, [you know] that yes, they have feelings and they have hearts.
“And they have moments where you, as an audience member, can sympathize.
“And selfishly, as an actor, I want you to feel pity for Serena and be confused [by her choices].
“But you just feel kind of gross sitting there and justifying all these horrendous actions.”
But, the question of the hour: Who will finally save June from Gilead?
And will they make it even if they do manage to get her out?
The Handmaid’s Tale season 1-3 can be streamed on NowTV.
“There’s a joy in playing those kinds of characters that are full of those complexities.”
The Handmaid’s Tale star also addressed the ongoing mind games between Fred and his wife Serena Joy, setting the stage for even more conflict in season four.
He added: That wonderful moment when they’re in that garden towards the very end and he literally says ‘I’d give everything up for you’.
“And then the next episode she has sold him down the river and then the next episode after that he flips the script on her. For me, it was deeply satisfying.”
The Handmaid’s Tale seasons 1-3 are available on Hulu and NowTV.
