Horror fans comprise one of the most passionate and dedicated fan subcultures in film, with many beloved classics hailed as untouchable masterpieces. And yet, because capitalism be capitalising, some of the greatest horror films of all time have spiraled into decades-long franchises to varying degrees of success. In the last year alone, new installments in the “Halloween,” “Scream,” “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” and “Predator” series have all been released, with even more legacy additions on their way.

One of those films is David Bruckner’s upcoming “Hellraiser” film for Hulu, the 11th film in the canon and first since the rights to the story reverted back to creator Clive Barker. The latter additions to the “Hellraiser” series are some of the most poorly-received films across all of the major horror franchises, which has put Bruckner in an extremely difficult position. If the new “Hellraiser” is a hit, he’ll be the man who brought the series back to life. If the new “Hellraiser” is another dud, this may be the final pin in the Cenobite’s head.

I was fortunate enough to attend a press conference this week for the new film, and it’s obvious that Bruckner knows exactly what’s at stake with the new film. “It’s my first time ever working with sacred IP and feeling a responsibility to what has come before us,” Brucker said. The director first burst onto the horror scene with segments in the films “The Signal,” “V/H/S,” and “Southbound,” before helming the stellar feature films “The Ritual” and “The Night House.” Bruckner also brought frequent collaborators Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski to write the script for “Hellraiser.”

‘A Responsibility To Just Lose Ourselves’

As someone who works primarily in horror, Bruckner is fully aware that there’s an entire bequest riding on the success of this film. “‘Hellraiser’ is pretty hard,” he said. “I was joking, you know, it could be a person with a mask on and a knife, but it’s not, they’re inter-dimensional BDSM demons coming from a labyrinth, it’s complicated stuff to get right.”

What has always separated “Hellraiser” from its contemporaries like “Halloween” or even “A Nightmare on Elm Street” has been the complicated lore of the Lament configuration and the Cenobites. This is so much more than just a slasher series, especially when the aesthetics are rooted in the very real, underground BDSM queer scenes that inspired Clive Barker’s novel, “The Hellbound Heart.”

“Actually making one of these films, my admiration goes to all the filmmakers that have come before us on it,” said Bruckner. “So [we were] holding that in as high regard as we can, but also — and this is something that we all talked about as a team, and I think everybody was on board for — it was like we also have a responsibility to just lose ourselves in this and allow it to take us in different directions if we’re so compelled, and to be true to the story that we’re telling.” It’s clear that Bruckner has such sights to show us, and the wait to see how his take on “Hellraiser” turns out will be exquisite agony.

“Hellraiser” will be available to stream on Hulu beginning October 7, 2022.

The UK has a new Prime Minister — meet Liz Truss, the tax-cutting Brexit convert taking over from Boris Johnson https://briefnews.eu/the-uk-has-a-new-prime-minister-meet-liz-truss-the-tax-cutting-brexit-convert-taking-over-from-boris-johnson/ https://briefnews.eu/the-uk-has-a-new-prime-minister-meet-liz-truss-the-tax-cutting-brexit-convert-taking-over-from-boris-johnson/#respond Mon, 05 Sep 2022 11:59:05 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/the-uk-has-a-new-prime-minister-meet-liz-truss-the-tax-cutting-brexit-convert-taking-over-from-boris-johnson/ Liz Truss
Liz Truss during the 2022 leadership campaign.

  • Liz Truss has been named the new prime minister of the UK in the wake of Boris Johnson quitting.
  • Truss, a Johnson loyalist, won a five-week campaign and is seen as offering continuity with Johnson.
  • Truss is a prominent Brexit supporter, despite once opposing it, and has pledged sweeping tax cuts.

Liz Truss has been named the new Conservative leader after a fierce leadership battle following Boris Johnson's resignation on July 7. The victory also makes her the new prime minister, due to take over on Tuesday.

Johnson was forced to step down after a string of scandals — including his handling of an accusation of sexual assault against one of his senior MP's and attending parties during the COVID-19 lockdowns — sparked the resignation of more than 60 members of his government in three days.

An ally of Johnson, Truss has often been described as the continuity candidate – but who is she, and what can we expect from her premiership?

Who is Liz Truss?

Born in Oxford, England, in 1975, Truss has been MP for West Norfolk since 2010, a minister for 10 years and a cabinet minister for eight. It makes her one of the most experienced operators in the UK's government.

Before being named Conservative leader, she was foreign secretary. Truss has also been trade secretary, women and equalities minister and environment secretary. She was the first woman to be Lord Chancellor and justice secretary.

During the 2016 EU referendum, Truss backed the Remain side, but later repositioned herself as an ardent Brexiteer to take positions more hardline than some who backed Brexit from the start, including Rishi Sunak, her rival for the leadership.

Truss also started out life supporting a different political party. As a student, she was a Liberal Democrat – the third-largest and most centrist party in the UK.

Unlike her predecessor, Truss attended a state-funded school, Roundhay, which she has criticised for having "let down" pupils. She went on to study Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at Oxford — a degree common to many in Britain's political elite.

What does Truss believe?

Her switch from the Lib Dems to Tories, and Remain to Leave has led some critics to suggest Truss is something of a shape-shifter.

She certainly hasn't shied away from controversy. A video of a young Liz Truss advocating for the abolition of the British monarchy — a fringe position she long since abandoned — went viral during her campaign.

More recently, Truss has placed herself on the right of the party, criticising "fashionable" policies on race, sexuality, and gender.

While Johnson attempted to emulate wartime leader Sir Winston Churchill, Truss has more often looked to Margaret Thatcher for inspiration, vowing not to give "handouts" but instead cut taxes in response to the growing economic crisis in the UK, which is facing high inflation and soaring energy costs.

As foreign secretary, she met with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov at the beginning of February as nations including the UK warned that the invasion of Ukraine was increasingly inevitable. It resulted in a frosty press conference with Lavrov complaining it was a conversation of "the mute with the deaf".

It later transpired that Truss insisted on visiting Russia against official advice. "The head of the Russia desk told her not to go, the head of security told her not to go," an official told The Times of London.

Within Westminster, Truss has gained a certain notoriety for her photoshoots including a Thatcher-esque tank ride, flying Britain's Union Jack flag (on an umbrella) on overseas trips, and a series of glossy shots for an interview with the Mail on Sunday.

She is also (in)famous for her stilted delivery during speeches, as shown in the compilation video below from London's Evening Standard newspaper.

A particularly awkward speech in 2014 resulted in memes that have followed her ever since, mostly focused on moments where Truss made an uncomfortable pause boasting of opening access to "new pork markets" in China and branding as "a disgrace" the extent to which Britons eat foreign instead of British cheese.

A 2021 profile by Politico noted that Truss had always been a nervous public speaker, but worked on honing her delivery after getting more prominent jobs.

During the five-week campaign to win the Conservative leadership, Truss stuck to her guns on tax, promising to reverse the 1.25% rise in National Insurance tax introduced by rival Rishi Sunak.

She also pledged not to introduce any new taxes and said she would scrap a planned 6% rise in corporation taxes.

Although this has been criticised as regressive, helping the richer in society more, Truss told the BBC it was fair because the richest paid more tax to begin with.

"Of course, there are some people who don't pay tax at all," she said on Sunday. "But to look at everything through the lens of redistribution I believe is wrong because what I'm about is about growing the economy and growing the economy benefits everybody."

However, on Monday morning – hours before she was confirmed as the new party leader  – The Daily Telegraph reported she was now considering freezing energy bills to avoid "Armageddon".

British Foreign Secretary and Conservative leadership candidate Liz Truss speaks with a worker as she attends a Conservative Party leadership campaign event at Condimentum Ltd at the Food Enterprise Park on August 25, 2022 in Norwich, England.

Truss has adopted a similar approach to Johnson when it comes to Europe and Brexit.

As foreign secretary Truss has threatened to trigger Article 16 over the Northern Ireland Protocol, which unionists claim is damaging the UK's integrity. During the campaign, sources suggested she could do this within days of becoming prime minister.

Asked whether French President Emmanuel Macron was a friend or foe to the British state, Truss replied "the jury is out". This earned her some criticism, although Macron appeared to make light of it, leaving Johnson to insist that Macron was a "tres bon buddy".

While she appears aligned with Johnson on Brexit, one area where the two disagree is the environment. Truss has called solar panels as "a blight on the landscape," and plans to cut the green levy, a portion of energy bills that goes towards social and environmental projects.

Who did she defeat?

Conservative leadership hopefuls Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak appear together at the end of the final Tory leadership hustings at Wembley Arena on August 31, 2022 in London, England.
Conservative leadership hopefuls Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak appear together at the end of the final Tory leadership hustings at Wembley Arena on August 31, 2022 in London, England.

Former chancellor Rishi Sunak was the second cabinet member to resign when Boris Johnson was Prime Minister and thus played a huge role in triggering the leadership election.

The two differed on their economic pledges, leading to some fiery moments in the campaign and making it unlikely he will hold a government post under the Truss administration.

While Truss pledged to reduce taxes immediately, Sunak wanted to look to do this after the UK had "gripped inflation."

Sunak led the parliamentary stage of the contest, winning the backing of a majority of Conservative MPs, but lost that edge as the race continued, eventually polling more than 30 points behind Truss in the last few weeks.

A prominent Tory donor warned that Britain will be seen as racist for not selecting Sunak, who would have been the UK's first non-white prime minister had he won.

What happens now?

While Truss has been named as Conservative party leader, she must wait another day before officially becoming prime minister.

Truss becomes prime minister on Tuesday when she will travel to meet the Queen at Balmoral in Scotland. It is the first time the Queen has handed over power outside of London, owing to concerns about the 96-year old monarch's mobility.

Johnson is due to first inform the Queen of his resignation formally and become a backbench MP.

Truss will then announce her new Cabinet, with changes expected as early as Tuesday evening. Allies including Kwasi Kwarteng, James Cleverly and Therese Coffey are all likely to be rewarded with big new jobs while Dominic Raab, Michael Gove, Steve Barclay and Sunak, are likely to lose out.

Per reports in UK outlets, Truss is likely to oversee an emergency Budget, with a possible date of September 21.

Truss does not have to call a General Election and can hypothetically continue with the parliamentary majority which Johnson won until January 2025. But polls suggest Tory popularity is declining.

With a looming economic and energy crisis, as well as the ongoing war in Ukraine and the never-ending fall-out from Brexit, the new prime minister has a mammoth task ahead of her.

Amber Ruffin and Her Big Capricorn Energy Are Taking Over Late Night https://briefnews.eu/amber-ruffin-and-her-big-capricorn-energy-are-taking-over-late-night/ https://briefnews.eu/amber-ruffin-and-her-big-capricorn-energy-are-taking-over-late-night/#respond Sat, 27 Feb 2021 10:43:43 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/amber-ruffin-and-her-big-capricorn-energy-are-taking-over-late-night/

RELATED STORIES

Amber Ruffin exudes Big Capricorn Energy. Ambitious, tenacious and undeniably talented, the zany comedian — whose birthday is Jan. 9 — is carving her own path in a field that’s hard-pressed to give Black women their proper due.

As host of Peacock’s The Amber Ruffin Show, which has been nominated for a Writers Guild Award for Comedy/Variety Sketch Series, she’s the only Black woman with a late-night show currently on the air. Her infectious charm and sharp social commentary make her a TV fixture, so much so that NBC is testing her show out with a broadcast audience. The network will air two episodes (tonight, Feb. 26 and Friday, March 5 at 1:30 a.m.) in place of repeats of A Little Late With Lilly Singh — a move that Ruffin hopes will make Black viewers feel seen and “realize that late-night comedy is an option for them,” according to her statement to The Root.

Moving through a space that’s dominated by white men requires a certain level of confidence, which Ruffin has in spades. In 2014, she flew out to New York to audition for Saturday Night Live alongside the likes of Leslie Jones, Tiffany Haddish and Nicole Byer. It was a dream gig that the comedian was certain she was going to get — until she didn’t. “I still cannot explain what on earth made me think that I was guaranteed such a thing,” Ruffin recalls with a chuckle.

Her disappointment, however, lasted only a few days. Seth Meyers soon called her up with an offer to write for Late Night — a role she still currently holds — making her the first Black woman to join the writers’ room of a late-night network show. Ruffin’s searing political and social satire, like her “Amber Says What” segments, have become her signature, but it took years for Ruffin to reach the level of comfort to say exactly what’s on her mind. Ruffin attributes this to a drastic cultural shift amid the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, which began in 2013 following George Zimmerman’s acquittal after stalking and shooting Trayvon Martin and gained newfound mainstream attention after nationwide protests for the recent killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

“I think the world shifted a little bit. I feel like I was riding the wave of a totally different American consciousness,” she explains. “It’s truly changed, what is OK to say and what isn’t, because we’re not trying to protect white fragility anymore. That’s not a part of anything, which is crazy, because that used to be a big chunk of what you do. To not be like, ‘Well, you know, everything we learned is a lie’ to make white people feel less guilty.”

In a powerful Late Night segment that ran last June, Ruffin shared her personal run-ins with police for a week straight. The rare experience of being given the space to speak so freely made her realize just how much she’d been holding back over the years. “When you are the only Black person at a comedy show or part of a cast, you just act that way to keep yourself safe and so that no one says anything crazy to you. As those boundaries break, it is kind of shocking [to see] how much you were playing by this weird rule that ultimately never mattered,” she says.

The strides Ruffin has made so far come on the backs of those who came before. Whoopi Goldberg made history in 1992 as the first Black woman to helm a late-night show, which only lasted for one season. A decade and a half later, Wanda Sykes landed her own late-night show on Fox, but that, too, was cancelled after the first season. Robin Thede helmed BET’s The Rundown in 2017, which also wasn’t renewed, but led to her creating 2019’s A Black Lady Sketch Show in response to the dearth of Black women in the comedy space. Season 2 is currently in the works without Ruffin, who is busy pulling double-duty writing for Late Night and hosting her show.

As a writer for A Black Lady Sketch Show, Ruffin found herself surrounded by women who looked like her for the first time in her career. The series featured a writers’ room made up entirely of Black women including Ruffin, Thede, head writer Lauren Ashley Smith (The Rundown), Ashley Nicole Black (Full Frontal With Samantha Bee), Rae Sanni (The Good Place), Akilah Green (Chelsea), Holly Walker (The Nightly Show) and Brittani Nichols (Take My Wife). Though she worked remotely from New York, Ruffin enjoyed the unique reassurance that came with working on a staff in which she wasn’t the minority.

“It was weird turning my work in to a Black woman who’s gonna discuss it with another Black woman, and they’re in charge of whether it goes or not,” she says of the experience. “Just that thought is crazy to me, and then the fact that it’s crazy feels even crazier, but it was really cool. I remember feeling very encouraged from that show, and that room.”

Ruffin’s work can be seen throughout A Black Lady Sketch Show‘s six-episode first season, which featured memorable sketches like “Bad B—ch Support Group” and “The Basic Ball.” The experience left a lasting mark on the late-night host, who made sure her that own writers’ room would also be majority Black. The Amber Ruffin Show, which premiered on Sept. 25, boasts a 90 percent Black writers’ room made up of head writer and Late Night cohort Jenny Hagel, Demi Adejuyigbe, Shantira Jackson, Dewayne Perkins and The Root journalist Michael Harriot. Much like A Black Lady Sketch Show, Ruffin’s staff operates with the freedom to say things exactly the way they’d normally articulate, rather than having to code switch to get their point across.

“If you’re a Black writer on a white show, it’s kind of like you are wearing weights around your ankles,” she notes. “What first occurs to you has to be filtered through the white gaze and white understanding, so you can’t be talking about Babyface and s–t. You have to be like, ‘Clay Aiken.’ You have to go with your third thought, and that happens a lot, and sometimes you have to correct how you would say something and whiten up your language. But on our show, we don’t have to do that, and it’s so cool.”

Ruffin has been in the game long enough to recognize the drastic change in comedy, shaped by the rise of social media services like Twitter, Instagram and TikTok. These platforms have given comedians unprecedented access to a worldwide audience and the ability to create opportunities for themselves that would otherwise be totally out of reach. For example, Lisa Beasley’s spot-on Margaret Thatcher impression in her parody of The Crown and Ryan Ken’s brilliant Malcom & Marie sketch have garnered millions of views, while TikTok superstar Sarah Cooper booked a Netflix special off her wildly popular Trump lip-sync videos.

Ruffin is excited to see this new generation of comedians ascend, recognizing that they’ve altered not just how we access entertainment, but also the type of comedy that we consume. “What comedy is evolves, and it’s growing at a crazy fast rate. I remember when it was Adam Sandler and Adam Sandler-esque jokes and movies — which I love — that were everyone’s favorite for years and years. But now, comedy moves at such a fast pace that that schtick can’t hold three movies, let alone the 10 or whatever,” she says.

With a successful late-night show, a New York Times bestseller (she and her big sister Lacey Lamar released You’ll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey: Crazy Stories of Racism in January) and a few game-changing milestones under her belt, the quick-witted jokester from Omaha, Nebraska is already etching out a memorable legacy. Through her triumphs and not-so-triumphant moments, she’s learned the value in remaining unapologetically herself.

“I have learned how to be tough,” Ruffin concludes. “When you write on a late-night show, you have to pitch a million jokes and a million sketches every week, and you’re lucky if one of them makes it. I’ve learned to not be precious about material at all. Once you start seeing yourself as not a comedy writer but like a comedy fountain that will never stop flowing, then you really feel powerful.”

“That’s what the history is, nothing subservient at all,” the presenter explained, before adding how Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, 46, thought taking the knee was something originating from television fantasy drama, Game Of Thrones.

“Because he said that, everyone believes it, everyone who wants to believe it. It reinforces it,” Piers added.

Ruthie Henshall fuming over I’m A Celebrity prank: ‘Are you taking the p***?’ https://briefnews.eu/ruthie-henshall-fuming-over-im-a-celebrity-prank-are-you-taking-the-p/ https://briefnews.eu/ruthie-henshall-fuming-over-im-a-celebrity-prank-are-you-taking-the-p/#respond Sun, 22 Nov 2020 18:23:04 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/ruthie-henshall-fuming-over-im-a-celebrity-prank-are-you-taking-the-p/

The I’m A Celeb camp was left in stitches when Ruthie Henshall around in search of a non-existent light switch. The 53-year-old West End star – who had arrived at the camp later than the other contestants –  was the focus of a cheeky prank earlier this week as the celebrities tried to get some sleep.

During this week’s recap episode, former EastEnders legend Shane Richie asked Ruthie to turn off the lights so that the camp could go to sleep.

Ruthie then wandered around the camp trying to find a lightswitch, unaware that there was no such thing and it had all been a cheeky prank.

Speaking in the Telegraph, Shane proudly explained that he had come up with the hilarious joke.

“Thing is right, I asked Ruthie to turn the light switches off so we could go to sleep, but what she doesn’t know is there are no light switches,” he said.

Shane, who has been making lots of jokes during his time on the show, then gave Ruthie false directions as she continued her search for the lightswitch.

“Are you taking the p**s?” Ruthie can be heard responding to the camp.

Before long, the actress had realised that she had fallen for a prank and the camp erupted into laughter.

Although she had been sent on a wild goose chase, Ruthie saw the funny side and also shared a giggle.

“I got jumped out on by Prince Charles and Prince Edward when I was having a cook-out with them!” revealed during the interview.

“They told me there were ghosts in this particular place and when I went to the toilet with a candle because there was no electricity, they waited for me to come out and then jumped out on me!”

She added: “I screamed the place down! They were hilarious.”

Although her relationship with Prince Edward eventually came to an end, the actress remained close to the royal family and even attended Edward’s wedding to Sophie Rhys-Jones in 1999.

Since entering the I’m A Celebrity camp, Ruthie has also opened up about her royal romance with her co-stars.

At one point, Ruthie explained that the Prince had been a ‘lovely bloke’ and she had many memories of her time with the royal family.

“You performed in Buckingham Palace, you sang in the gardens, I s****ed in the bedrooms,” she told Shane as the camp relaxed.

She even revealed that she had several encounters with Princess Diana but had one particularly hazy memory because Prince Charles had given the actress her

Meghan Markle outrage: Duchess defended over ‘Meghan blame’ – ‘Taking it out of context!’ https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-outrage-duchess-defended-over-meghan-blame-taking-it-out-of-context/ https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-outrage-duchess-defended-over-meghan-blame-taking-it-out-of-context/#respond Mon, 24 Feb 2020 09:33:02 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-outrage-duchess-defended-over-meghan-blame-taking-it-out-of-context/

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry last week issued a lengthy statement in which they outlined the new system they will adopt once they quit the Royal Family, confirming they will not be making use of the Sussex Royal brand after their departure. Royal biographer Tom Bower accused the Duchess of Sussex of infusing the statement with “spiteful fury” aimed at the Queen over the brand and of being “rude” to Her Majesty. But Good Morning Britain contributor Afua Adom hit back at the biographer accusing his of taking the statement “out of context” and contributing to a campaign of “Meghan bashing.”

Ms Adom said: “I think what is spiteful in this instance is the way this whole statement has been interpreted.

“No other part of the statement has been talked about where Harry talked about the work he is going to continue doing on the armed services and the Invictus Games.

“Nobody is talking about the fact they said they want to remain working with the Royal Family, with the Queen but they are not going to do that.

“It would be spiteful if they said they are going to use the term royal anyway – it was a statement, it was very, very factual. There was no emotion in there.”

JUST IN: Meghan Markle snub: Duchess ‘given opposite advice’ to Kate Middleton

She added: “People are taking things that they say out of context, blaming solely on Meghan as per usual as people have continuously done over this whole thing, assuming it’s all Meghan as if Harry is weak-willed, assuming she’s somehow ruling him and all-powerful.

“On Friday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed they will not be using the Sussex Royal brand while remarking neither the Queen nor other members of the Royal Family have exclusive rights to use the term “royal.”

The statement read: “While there is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word ‘Royal’ overseas, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use ‘Sussex Royal’ or any iteration of the word ‘Royal’ in any territory (either within the UK or otherwise) when the transition occurs Spring 2020.”

The Duke and Duchess have spent the past month living in Canada with their son Archie. Meghan and Harry are expected to settle down in the Commonwealth country for the time being but sources close to the royals suggested they have also been seeking a house in Los Angeles.

The couple have been spotted crossing the border into the US to attend a private JP Morgan conference in Miami earlier this month, during which Prince Harry delivered a speech.

They later travelled to Meghan’s native California to hold meetings with officials at Stanford University’s Palo Alto campus over their plans for their future charitable endeavours.

Survivor Taking New Steps to Prevent Sexual Harassment, in Wake of Season 39’s Historic Removal of Player https://briefnews.eu/survivor-taking-new-steps-to-prevent-sexual-harassment-in-wake-of-season-39s-historic-removal-of-player/ https://briefnews.eu/survivor-taking-new-steps-to-prevent-sexual-harassment-in-wake-of-season-39s-historic-removal-of-player/#respond Wed, 18 Dec 2019 12:38:27 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/survivor-taking-new-steps-to-prevent-sexual-harassment-in-wake-of-season-39s-historic-removal-of-player/

Before the close of Survivor Season 39, which CBS acknowledges was “unprecedented” in how “inappropriate individual behavior intersect[ed] with game play,” the network has announced new policies and procedures designed to curb sexual harassment, biases and other social issues.

“We recognize there are things we could have done differently” during Season 39, which saw castaway Dan Spilo historically removed from the competition after multiple alleged instances of inappropriate physical contact with cast and crew, “and we are determined to do better going forward,” the network said in a statement.

For Season 40, which has already filmed, the show added to its pre-production cast orientation specific guidelines regarding personal space, inappropriate behavior, and how to report these issues. For Seasons 41 and beyond, producers are reviewing all elements of the show to further support appropriate interaction, including how the players live during, as well as after they are eliminated from, the competition.

Additional measures being taken to “further support a safe environment” include:

The production will add another on-site professional to provide a confidential means of reporting any concerns, so that the production can address them promptly apart from the game.

The show will enhance its pre-production orientation with new anti-harassment, unconscious bias, and sensitivity training for cast, producers and production crew on location.

A new rule will be implemented stating unwelcome physical contact, sexual harassment and impermissible biases cannot be brought into the competition and will not be permitted as part of gameplay. This will be covered in the cast orientation for each season, along with clear instructions on how to report violations.

The show will partner with a third-party expert in the field to review, evolve or add to these new policies and procedures going forward.

During Survivor’s Nov. 13 episode, castaway Kellee Kim made clear her discomfort with Spilo’s encroaching of her personal space and inappropriate touching. On-site producers were forced to intervene, and give Spilo a formal warning. Spilo on Dec. 11 was removed from the game after a report of another incident, which happened off-camera and did not involve a player. (People reported that the incident in question involved a member of the series’ production team and happened after an immunity challenge, when Spilo and his fellow contestants were getting into a boat to transport them back to the camp.)

Today Reveals Cohosts for Post-Megyn Kelly Third Hour — Who's Taking Over? https://briefnews.eu/today-reveals-cohosts-for-post-megyn-kelly-third-hour-whos-taking-over/ https://briefnews.eu/today-reveals-cohosts-for-post-megyn-kelly-third-hour-whos-taking-over/#respond Mon, 07 Jan 2019 16:36:26 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/today-reveals-cohosts-for-post-megyn-kelly-third-hour-whos-taking-over/

Today is calling on some familiar faces to permanently lead its in-limbo third hour.

Meteorologists Al Roker and Dylan Dreyer, along with journalists Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones, have officially been named cohosts of Today‘s 9 am hour, which was previously home to Megyn Kelly’s portion of the NBC morning show.

“Hope you don’t mind these faces!” Dreyer tweeted Monday, alongside a selfie with her three fellow anchors. “You’ll be seeing a lot of them at 9 am. Please join us!”

Following Kelly’s firing from Today in October — a result of her controversial comments about blackface — the third hour was temporarily co-hosted by Melvin, Roker and co-lead anchor Hoda Kotb, though Dreyer and Jones also made regular appearances as the year drew to a close. It was initially speculated that Today correspondent Jenna Bush Hager would become Kelly’s permanent replacement.

This 9 o’clock cohost reveal comes amid a time of transition for the morning show, whose fourth hour will bid adieu to Kathie Lee Gifford in April. NBC has yet to announce future plans for the 10 am hour, though NBC News president Noah Oppenheim said “our plans will, of course, continue to include Hoda.”
