In the latest TV show ratings, CBS’ NCIS: Los Angeles opened Season 12 with 5.5 million total viewers and a 0.7 rating, steady in the demo vs. its previous average yet delivering its third-smallest audience ever. Leading out of that, NCIS: New Orleans (3.9 mil/0.5) hit and tied its own series lows. Due to NFL delays, the first “NCIS Classic” episode aired outside of primetime/no ratings available. Elsewhere…. NBC | Sunday Night Football (14 mil/4.1) was steady in audience and up a tick in the demo from last week’s fast nationals. ABC | AFV (5 mil/0.7) was steady, while Supermarket Sweep (3.3 mil/0.7) and Millionaire (3 mil/0.4) both dipped. The Alex Trebek news special that bumped Card Sharks then did 3.5 mil/0.4. FOX | Versus their most recent non-NFL boosted numbers, The Simpsons (1.7 mil/0.6) ticked up, Bless the Harts (1.2 mil/0.4) and Family Guy (1.4 mil/0.6) were steady, and Bob’s Burgers (1.3 mil/0.6) dipped. THE CW | Pandora (294K/0.0) added a few eyeballs while staying non-negative in the demo. The Live+Same Day numbers reported in our ratings column do not reflect a show’s overall performance, given the increased use of delayed playback via DVR and streaming platforms, plus out-of-home viewing. These numbers (Nielsen fast nationals, unless denoted as finals) instead aim to simply illustrate trends or superlatives. BEST USED BY 05-01-2021. Want scoop on any of the above shows? Email InsideLine@tvline.com and your question may be answered via Matt’s Inside Line. In the latest TV show ratings: With NBC’s Sunday Night Football and Fox’s NLCS Game 7 coverage dominating the night, ABC’s Supermarket Sweep led all non-sports fare with 4.8 million total viewers and a 1.0 demo rating. TVLine readers gave the Leslie Jones-hosted game show revival an average grade of “C.” Elsewhere on ABC, the season premieres of AFV (4.3 mil/0.5), Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (3.8 mil/0.6) and Card Sharks (2.6 mil/0.4) were all down sharply from their previous averages, opposite so, so much sportsing. NBC | Sunday Night Football (10.3 mil/2.8) dipped about 10 percent from last week’s fast nationals. FOX | The Dodgers’ NLCS Game 7 victory over the Braves drew 6.4 mil and a 1.9. THE CW | Pandora (407K/0.1) was steady. CBS | Pending adjustment due to NFL this-and-that, Ferris Bueller (2.7 mil/0.5) was up a tick from last week’s Sunday Night Movie. The Live+Same Day numbers reported in our ratings column do not reflect a show’s overall performance, given the increased use of delayed playback via DVR and streaming platforms, plus out-of-home viewing. Hundreds of protesters, including the movement’s leader, were detained during the demonstrations. Yellow Vest mayhem has hit the country for the 4th consecutive weekend. Protests in the capital this Saturday resulted in clashes between demonstrators and police, with officers resorting to tear gas. Hundreds were detained and taken into custody in the capital. People in other regions have also risen up in protest. He was among 18 people taken into police custody. Later, up to 1,000 demonstrators marched to the local police station, chanting “free Julien Terrier.” About a thousand protesters gathered in the center of the southern city of Marseille. The march was relatively peaceful. “We are not here to break anything, we have to march openly, if we see anyone who [violates the order], he will be excluded,” one of the protesters said. Sunday’s 44th annual People’s Choice Awards gave viewers what they wanted (what they really, really wanted). And we’re not just talking about the Shadowhunters fandom, whose frustration over their favorite show’s untimely cancellation has never been more validated. Though the annual viewer-voted ceremony is often a mixed bag, this year’s installment — the first to be broadcast on E! — moved things right along with surprisingly memorable wins, wonderfully awkward encounters and, thanks to Female Artist of 2018 Nicki Minaj, one highly tweet-able sexual advance. (Two if you count her follow-up mention of Kim Kardashian’s butt.) From the show’s cheeky beginning — in which a tuxedo-clad Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly claimed that the PCA stage was designed by the architects of the Louvre — to that final stirring speech from lawyer Bryan Stevenson (“More hope, more mercy and more justice!”), it was truly an evening of highs. Japanese auteur Hirokazu Kore-eda is a favorite at the film festival circuit — his tender, delicate odes to humanities have won twice at the Cannes Film Festival and earned accolades across the world. Now Shoplifters, his latest Palme d’Or winner is heading for a Stateside release, and possibly, the best Foreign Language category at the Oscars. See the first Shoplifters trailer below.
Shoplifters is a return to Kore-eda’s family-focused dramas after a brief sojourn to the gritty crime genre with The Third Murder. The film follows a poor Japanese family who barely survives through petty thievery. One day, on a shoplifting trip with his son, Osamu (Kore-eda regular Lily Franky) discovers a young girl out in the freezing cold. He and his family warmly take her in, but find themselves at the center of an investigation when the girl is revealed to be at the center of a prolific missing child case.
Shoplifters, which also stars Kore-eda regular Kirin Kiki in her last film role, debuted at Cannes in May, where it was met with a rapturous critical reception (it now holds 100% on Rotten Tomatoes) and scored the French festival’s top award. But that was only the beginning of a triumphant season for the film. Shoplifters went on to become Kore-eda’s biggest box office hit in Japan, raking in around $ 40 million. It was a hit too in China, where Shoplifters became the country’s biggest Japanese live-action film, earning $ 14 million at the box office. Japan has selected Shoplifters as the country’s official contender for year’s best foreign-language film race.
Here is the official synopsis for Shoplifters:
After one of their shoplifting sessions, Osamu and his son come across a little girl in the freezing cold. At first reluctant to shelter the girl, Osamu’s wife agrees to take care of her after learning of the hardships she faces. Although the family is poor, barely making enough money to survive through petty crime, they seem to live happily together until an unforeseen incident reveals hidden secrets, testing the bonds that unite them.
Shoplifters opens in theaters on November 23, 2018.

Food-poisoning outbreaks seem to be sweeping the United States this year. And, with news of outbreaks on the rise, expectant mothers need to be especially careful.
While foodborne illnesses are rarely pleasant, certain types can hit pregnant people and newborns especially hard. According to food-poisoning expert Bill Marler, listeria should be a top concern for any expectant mother.
“Listeria illnesses in moms pass to the baby in uterus and can kill or damage the baby,” Marler, who is an attorney specializing in foodborne-illness cases, told Business Insider.
More than 200 people died in a listeria outbreak stemming from a meat-production plant in Polokwane, South Africa, earlier this year. Newborns were the most likely to be impacted by the outbreak, with 91 babies under the age of 28 days old dying as a result of listeriosis.
To reduce the risk of foodborne illness, pregnant women should avoid eating certain foods, according to Marler. Here’s what the food-poisoning expert says to cut from your diet, according to a list Marler wrote for Food Safety News and shared in conversations with Business Insider.

Rare meat is one of a number of things that Marler himself doesn’t eat and advises against pregnant women consuming. If meat isn’t cooked to 160 degrees, he says, bacteria can thrive and cause E. coli or Salmonella poisoning.

Listeria concerns mean that pregnant women shouldn’t consume cheeses including brie, Camembert, Roquefort, feta, and Gorgonzola.

Precut and prewashed fruits and veggies have caused a number of issues already in 2018. McDonald’s salads were linked to a parasitic illness outbreak that sickened more than 390 people, and an E. coli outbreak linked to romaine lettuce sickened at least 197 and killed five people.
“Not every lettuce leaf in the field is contaminated with E. coli, but some of them are,” Marler said earlier this year regarding the risks of prewashed, bagged lettuce. “And when you mix and match it at a processing facility and chop it up, you get what you get.”

Belgium produced a blistering display to knock out five-time winners Brazil and book a World Cup semi-final spot against France.
The Belgians ran out 2-1 winners in a frantic encounter in Kazan thanks to two first-half goals, the opener coming from a 13th-minute Fernandinho own goal before Kevin De Bruyne rifled home a second from the edge of the box on the half-hour mark.
Substitute Renato Augusto pulled a goal back for Brazil with a 75th-minute header to set up a thrilling end to the game, but Belgium held on as worthy winners to set up a semi-final against France, who earlier saw off Uruguay in their quarter-final.
Belgium’s ‘Golden Generation’ had largely failed to live up to their tag with disappointing quarter-final exits at their last two major tournaments, but now have a golden chance at glory in Russia after beating a Brazil team that had largely flattered to deceive.
The Brazilians had made serene progress through the group stages before easing past Mexico in the last 16, but came up against an inspired Belgium who were in Kazan courtesy of stunning comeback win against Japan in their last game.
The opening stages saw an intensity that would set the pace for the remainder of the game, as Brazil pressed high up the pitch while Belgium initially saw more of the ball.
Marouane Fellaini, who was in the starting team after his starring role in the comeback against Japan, made his presence felt by raking his arm across the back of Neymar’s head, giving the much-maligned Brazilian more cause to go to ground than had perhaps been the case in Russia up to that point.
It was Brazil though who had the first real chance on seven minutes, when Thiago Silva somehow failed to turn home a Neymar corner from four yards out when completely unmarked, with perhaps the only extenuating circumstances being that the ball had arrived quickly from a Miranda flick-on.
Belgium looked rattled at the back every time Brazil pressed from set pieces, and Paulinho spurned another chance when unmarked at a corner.
Brazil mainly restricted Belgium to shots from range, and Nacer Chadli dragged his shot wide after good build-up play from Romelu Lukaku – a sign of the growing influence the big striker was exerting on the game.
It was Belgium who took the lead on 13 minutes when Brazil’s own frailties at set pieces were exposed, as Fernandinho mistimed his jump from a Chadli corner, the ball bouncing off his arm and past Alisson into the net.
Brazil found themselves behind for the first time in Russia, but attempted to strike back immediately, with Neymar breaking free on the left and Gabriel Jesus almost scrambling home from the resulting cross.
Philippe Coutinho – Brazil’s player of the tournament – introduced himself to the game by testing Thibaut Courtois from 25 yards, and the Belgian stopper was also equal to a Marcelo effort from range.
The intensity continued as Brazil went in search of the equalizer, although they continued to look porous at the back, especially with the pace and energy of Belgian captain Eden Hazard and Lukaku’s powerful running.
It was the latter who burst through from his own half on 31 minutes, leaving a flailing Brazilian midfield in his wake before laying the ball off on the edge of the box to De Bruyne, who rifled past the outstretched hand of Alisson and into the left-hand corner to double the lead.
Brazil were facing their biggest test under Tite as Lukaku in particular continued to run their backline ragged, but they roused themselves to test Courtois, who produced a double stop to push away a Marcelo cross before denying Coutinho.
Belgium had chances of their own through a De Bruyne free-kick, while a backheel from Vincent Kompany at a corner drew a stop from Alisson.
Tite brought Roberto Firmino on in place of Willian at the break as Brazil aimed to wrest control of the game, but Belgium started the second half as they ended the first, with Lukaku stating his intent with another powerful break forward.
Brazil thought they had cause for a penalty when Neymar threw himself to the floor after brushing past Fellaini, but replays showed zero contact and referee Milorad Mazic did not trouble the VAR.
The referee did go to the video assistant referees just moments later, when Gabriel Jesus went down from a Kompany challenge with the ball running out of play, but no spot-kick was awarded.
Brazil pressed but Belgium remained dangerous on the break, and Hazard flashed across goal from a counter-attack on the hour mark.
Lukaku’s first touch deserted him on more than one occasion but he remained full of running as Belgium’s main attacking outlet.
Brazil finally burst into life to set up a thrilling finale when substitute Renato Augusto turned home a header from a Coutinho cross with 15 minutes to play.
Coutinho himself fired agonizingly wide moments later after a lovely turn and shot in the box, as Belgium rocked at the back, and Augusto came within yards of equalizing with a shot from the edge of the box.
Neymar had time for one last touch of theatrics as he threw himself to the floor after minimal contact when challenging for a header in injury time, but the referee was again unmoved, although the Brazil number 10 forced a finger-tip save from Courtois moments later.
But Belgium held firm and Brazil were on their way out – leaving solely European representatives left in Russia.
For Belgium and Roberto Martinez it means a semi-final test in St. Petersburg against an equally-fancied French team. A mouth-watering prospect awaits.

Stephen Curry scored 37 points, NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant added 20 and a triple-double and the Warriors stamped themselves a dynasty after winning their second straight title and third in four years Friday night, 108-85 over the Cleveland Cavaliers to complete a sweep and perhaps drive LeBron James from his home again to chase championships.
Overcoming obstacles all season long, the Warriors were not going to be denied and won the fourth straight finals matchup against Cleveland with ease.
"This is so hard to do and doing it three out of four years is incredible," guard Klay Thompson said.
It was the first sweep in the NBA Finals since 2007, when James was dismissed by a powerful San Antonio team in his first one. His eighth straight appearance didn't go well either, and now there's uncertainty where the superstar will play next.
James, who said he broke his right hand in frustration following Game 1, finished with 23 points and spent the final minutes on the bench, contemplating what went wrong and maybe his next move.
Following the game, he sat quietly in his corner locker with a towel draped over his head. He arrived at his postgame news conference with a large brace on his right hand from a "self-inflicted" injury.
Act IV between the Warriors and Cavs featured a drama-filled and controversial Game 1. But from there on, Durant, Curry, Thompson, Draymond Green and the rest of this California crew showed why they're the game's gold standard.
And they may stay that way.

"Can't get enough of this feeling so we're going to celebrate it together," Curry said.
Not wanting to give the Cavs or their fans any hope despite the fact that no team has ever overcome a 3-0 deficit in the NBA playoffs, the Warriors built a nine-point halftime lead when Curry ignored a closeout by James and dropped a 3-pointer.
Then the league's best team tightened the screws on Cleveland in the third quarter, outscoring the Cavs 25-13 and prompting Golden State fans to begin those drawn-out "War-eee-orrss" chants that provide a perfect musical accompaniment to their 3-point barrages.
By the start of the fourth quarter, the only question was whether Curry would win his first NBA Finals MVP or if it would go to Durant for the second year in a row.
And again, it was Durant, who added 12 rebounds and 10 assists — more satisfaction and validation for a player who couldn't beat the Warriors so he joined them.
After surviving a rougher-than-usual regular season and beating top-seeded Houston in Game 7 on the road in the Western Conference finals, the Warriors withstood a 51-point masterpiece by James in Game 1 and joined an elite group of teams to win multiple championships in a four-year span.
Only Bill Russell's Boston Celtics, the "Showtime" Lakers and the Los Angeles squad led by Kobe and Shaq, and Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls have been as dominant in such a short period of time.
The Dub Dynasty.
The path to this title was more precarious than the first two for coach Steve Kerr and the Warriors, who overcame injuries, expectations, a built-to-dethrone-them Rockets team and the brilliance of James, who scored 51 points in the series opener and carried a Cavs team from the beginning of their rollercoaster season until the end.
It may have been the final game in Cleveland for the 33-year-old, who is expected to opt out of his $ 35.6 million contract for 2019 next month and become a free agent.
James was pulled from the game with 4:03 left, and he slapped hands with the Warriors before heading to the bench. He averaged 34 points, 8.5 rebounds and 10 assists in the series, but as has been the case in the past, he didn't have enough help.
Another Summer of LeBron is officially underway and there are already teams stretching from Philadelphia to Los Angeles hoping to land the three-time champion, who may have to go elsewhere to put together a cast strong enough — and as James made clear this week, smart enough — to bring down the Warriors.
Right now, Golden State is on another tier and with Durant expected to re-sign with them in weeks and Curry, Thompson, Green and the rest still young and hungry, their reign could last much longer.
Heading into the playoffs, the Warriors appeared vulnerable. There were lingering questions about Curry's sprained left knee that sidelined him for almost six weeks and kept him out of a first-round series against San Antonio.
Kerr was forced to mix and match lineups, and it became obvious the Warriors weren't going to go 16-1 and storm their way to a title like they did in 2017, when their only post-season loss came in Game 4 after the Cavs made 24 3-pointers.
The Warriors began defence of their title as a No. 2 seed and their season was in serious jeopardy when they fell behind 3-2 to presumptive MVP James Harden and the Rockets. But Golden State, catching a break when Houston star guard Chris Paul was forced to sit with a hamstring injury, showed a champion's poise by winning two straight.
That set up another reunion with James and the Cavs.
Maybe the last.
